Had a beer with Rob between sets at the Five Points Music Hall in Birmingham, Al in 1996 when Matchbox Twenty was still playing small clubs... He was a great guy. I'll treasure that night forever.
Man I miss the Music Hall. We use to get all the big acts in Bham back then.
You are blessed. I hope to shake hands with him one day.

Very touching to hear Rob's memories of his friend George Michael. I can imagine that Rob would have had George's back at a moments' notice when life and others hurt him. George Michael was an extraordinary soul. No lip-singing or auto-tune, powerhouse voice, and his songwriting abilities have never and will never be replaced. Sincere gratitude to Rob Thomas for this tribute. I miss him still...

I have watched this before and have been avoiding it because George Michael was my all time favorite and my first love at age nine, back in 1984. So it's hard for me.
I was so touched by his words about George and then when he started to sing I just burst into tears. This is so beautiful. I love rob too, he's so real, so talented and so amazing. Just like George. I die to hear this. I just die. My heart breaks in the most bittersweet way.

I went to a matchbox 20 concert in Pittsburgh alone a couple years back. First opportunity ever to see them play live. I cannot get long day out of my head!! Even still that is my iconic anthem. First time to Express my music interest online at 48 yo. Tribute to George was just incredible and authentic styling. This is why I,'m commenting. Just both amazing artists. Xoxo

I agree 100%. Rob Thomas has been a part of my life since I sang smooth in school when it first came out. My favorite artist of all time. I adored George Michael as well, and George would have been so proud of Rob for doing this. I actually personally think this rendition is even better than George Michaels version. Rob absolutely gave this his all and knocked it out of the park. I highly recommend checking out his cover of Tracy Chapman and Elton John's tiny dancer as well.
SHUT UP!!!! WOW... this is AMAZING! As a singer, GM songs are notoriously hard to sing, and this is one of the hardest because of the chorus - Mr Thomas, who I've adored since Back 2 Good in '96 is truly rock royalty IMHO with all the hits he's done and album tracks which amaze like "The Difference". GM RIP!!! LEGEND!!! Saw GM twice, it was UNBELIEVABLE.

Humble, funny as hell, warm, caring, genuine, giving...and those are just a few reasons why he is also my favorite musician. ❤️ That voice, his songwriting...powerful and moving. He’s helped me through a lot of lifes ups and downs. So many more songs than what you just hear on the radio. He’s so underrated. 🎶

I never would've imagined Rob giving such a great cover, but damn his voice was perfect for this song! Just the right amount of smooth and power for a GM song. Not the biggest fan of his music growing up, but definitely have a newfound respect for him in covering this song and honoring George's memory 😊

Rob Thomas is a visionary. Just like George Michael. One great honoring another. It's wonderful. Rob and Kyle covered "time after time". Go check that out. I love EVERY SINGLE matchbox Twenty song. I love damn near all of Rob's solo stuff too. Rob Thomas has been my biggest influencer. I can't wait to go see MB20 live in Tuscaloosa next year. My favorite band of all time and I'm finally gonna get to see em. I hope I get to shake this guy's hand. So awesome to find out he was friends with George. I love a lot of his songs too. I'm having trouble seeing my keys through my tears but I don't care, I just had to say how moved I was by this performance and thank you for sharing it. I loved George Michael too and was shocked and really saddened by his sudden death at such a relatively young age. You did him great honor with this performance.

first time ive seen this, you know im a Rob Thomas fan a big one until now id have summarized what i love about him in a live acoustic performance much like this one of 3am when he tells of his childhood and his mothers struggles with cancer, i still mourn the life cut short that gave so much and for me always will, a beautiful tribute Rob, all these years later and still we have a world that's learnt nothing and could care less about what stole his life. Keep telling his story and we all would have better lives be better people living in a better world if we learnt from what stole his life . surely at the least its what his memory deserves. xo
