Awesome comparison Ben. As an owner of a P6P, I agree with you on Night Sight, it takes too long. I wish google added a setting or something to make it shorter, even at the expense of brightness in the final pic.
Google used to offer a fast Night Sight mode. It was called HDR+ enhanced, but the Pixel 3 and 3a were the last Pixel phones with HDR+ enhanced... I have a 3a and I never use Night Sight, it is too annoying and very often produces blurry results. HDR+ enhanced produces sharp results, is faster and can produce the same bright results, if you use exposure compensation or shoot in raw. I also had a Pixel 6 Pro for a short time and due to the better hardware, one can actually take good and bright low light raw photos without Night Sight, the problem are the jpgs, which suffer from extremely aggressive and unnecessary color noise reduction, when you use exposure compensation for bright low light photos. But the raw files don't suffer from this issue.
Interesting results Ben, especially considering the phones you did last week, Vivo X80 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro... that's some serious camera stuff right there
Great video! I knew the hardware was going to be such an uphill battle for the Pixel, but I also knew the pixel software had enough gas to compete at a high level! Definitely waiting for the Pixel 7 camera comparisons!

@@DavideStiff my battery also just died a month ago. Crazy coincidence or faulty design? I think the latter because one of the marketed features of the new 12S Ultra is the dual battery protection chips. I ordered a new battery and will try to have a local place replace it for me, nobody place I've been to so far (here in Dallas) has even heard of Xiaomi :( how did you go about this battery issue my friend?

I just got my Xiaomi 12S Ultra, last night. It's a pretty fantastic phone and a notable upgrade from my 11 Ultra before it. One of the things I'd note about the 12S Ultra is that it seems like it'd be a better phone for someone who wants to turn their phone photos into actual prints. Everything is far more "This is an actual photo" looking than the competition.
@Peace, Love and Unity In a lot of ways, they're very similar. The 11 Ultra had the biggest camera sensor for its time until Sony came out with a phone with a 1inch sensor, now the 12S Ultra also having a 1inch sensor. I haven't had the chance to go out and test the camera a whole lot, but just as you can see in many comparison videos, the photos taken on the 12S Ultra tend to look a lot more like they're film pictures, far less digital looking. I've also found this to be the case with my own 12S Ultra, something easy to reproduce. Also, holy smokes it takes pictures SO fast. I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it, but I feel like the speakers on the 12S Ultra might be just a tiny bit quieter than the ones on the 11 Ultra. Not a terrible thing considering they're both plenty loud while also being entirely clear and full sounding, Just an observation. Oh, and... My 12S Ultra came with a gift box that I haven't opened yet. :D

That 1 inch sensor is pretty darn good! It's amazing how much technology has advanced over the years. For many years, people have being saying you can replace your DSLR with a phone camera. I laughed hard at that before, now it's no longer something unimaginable, this Xiaomi is good enough for me to leave my mirrorless camera at home most of time IMO.
This is really good, but if i am gonna shoot, i won't leave my sigma art 24-35 f2 with nikon d600 at home :) mobile phones are ok, but there is a long way to go before getting close to sigma art optical quality. Also full frame is still too advanced even with software power of phones.

I’ve had the P6Pro since launch, but I love how the Xiaomi lets the highlights be highlights and the shadows be shadows. The tonal roll-off is also much more authentic. Google (and others) have gone too far with the computational photography. It’s “abuse of power” at this point. :D If you remember, the original Pixel was much closer to authentic. P.S. Love your videos, Ben! Nice real life comparison as usually. Would you review 12s Pro and compare it with Ultra? I think results should be very close even with smaller sensor.
Another great comparison! I really hope the bigger sensor becomes the standard. While the Xiaomi main camera is killer, it seems they didn't make much of an effort to push the boundaries on the periscope and selfie camera. As I keep my phones for 3-4 years, I will wait a bit longer for a phone that has it all. Xiaomi paved the way for well-integrated large sensor - hopefully others will follow!

In any case it seems in Europe we will never see the 12S Ultra, I read now (China only). Hopefully I will still find it within 10 months, from China, at a decent price lower than 1,000€ 😅 and my target price is about 600/700€ tops, which makes impossible to find a cameraphone nowadays.
Do you also experience that zoom bug where if you zoom in videos the shots doesn't align as Marques? If you did that is a major deal breaker to have. I hope they fix that. Hi Ben, thank you for this nice comparison video. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is good but failed in one particular area which is the highlight 8:57, while the Pixel 6 Pro was much better regarding the highlights and definitely it is another good phone
Both of them are super impressive for sure! I do prefer the colors and exposure of the Pixel (that's one of the reasons why I got the 6 Pro myself), but there were plenty of times where the better hardware of the Xiaomi shined. Honestly though, I don't mind the main sensor, but the ultrawide could definitely be better...it's to the point where if I don't absolutely need a wider shot, I just stick to the 1x as much as possible (and I don't do this with the telephoto). If Google could put a better ultrawide camera in the Pixel 7, that's be awesome
Nice job, let’s see more competition in the wild, I just wonder, why nobody speaks out about file formats of those photos or videos, like if it’s encoded in AVIF, HEIF of JPEG XL.
Pixel did an incredible job with the zoom camera. It's just on another level and that's because IMX 586 is still the king in terms of software integration. If only 6 Pro used the IMX 586 for both Ultrawide and Zoom, it would've been an incredible camera setup.
Awesome comparison Ben. As an owner of a P6P, I agree with you on Night Sight, it takes too long. I wish google added a setting or something to make it shorter, even at the expense of brightness in the final pic.
Gcam mod bsg, shamim, parrot...
Nothing can be done because of the sub standard Exynos procesor the Pixel uses
Likewise I would like more phones to have the option for it to take longer but that you get a brighter picture
Night sight time is dependent on the exposure slider. Higher exposure means longer time. You can drag it down
Google used to offer a fast Night Sight mode. It was called HDR+ enhanced, but the Pixel 3 and 3a were the last Pixel phones with HDR+ enhanced... I have a 3a and I never use Night Sight, it is too annoying and very often produces blurry results. Will be very interesting to be able to compare Xiaomi S Ultra with the iPhone 14 Pro max and Samsung S23 Ultra in January 2023.
my next phone for sure!
Was waiting for your video tbh
I must commend you on all your hard work to give us the most up-to-date tech and content. Keep it up man
Thank you
Both of them are super impressive for sure!
I always love your reviews bcoz shoot in HK but I'll vote for 12S bcoz no overheating new cpu and 8k recording.
Good job, thanks bro...
