I think it's astonishing how the vtubing community hasn't pointed out that SELEN initiated to leave the company on NEUTRAL terms. But because of how bad the PR would get for Nijisanji since a lot of other Talents been leaving recently, they ghosted her and FIRED her to try to shift the blame about why she's leaving onto her incompetence and inability to cooperate instead of just graduating her normally. Pathetic!
There's just so many different issues here that each one deserves outrage on its own. Combine them together and you can easily miss something. This is honestly nuts that there's this much idiocy in one spot.
A bit amusing since we were all expecting Selen to leave anyway. We just expected a graduation, not a termination.
Not just evil but also incredibly stupid. They could have tried convincing us that any other talent is uncooperative and unprofessional and doesn't pay or do things on time. Not selen. She is the one whose willingness to do things for the community is most obvious (not that the others don't do these things of course, but for her it was one of the main things she is known for). Nobody would have been willing to believe that statement even without doki doubling down.
The funny thing about that is, if they had listened and allowed her to graduate they wouldn't be getting this severe backlash as the Dragoons(Selens fan name) have been asking her to graduate for a while now as they saw how poorly management was treating her and wanted her out of niji long before this situation happened.

Hololive is an example of a vtube idol coorp that tries to treat its talents right.
They made mistakes in the past and have tried to take responsibility, learn, and grow. The CEO has a clear talent first mentality, and talents have said that if that changes their out. There are many examples of the talent management being really good at their jobs.
You can tell that it's not a traditional Idol agency, even if there's still some old-school Japanese business practice lingering.
I hope Hololive and Vshojo and Phase Connect keep running the way they are and show others what a management agency should strive to be.

Because all big corps arent bad, most of vtubing corps arent even bad. Hololive isnt bad, they have had some bad moments but they were and still are a new company and have made mistakes but they learn and always do better. Vshojo has had some drama, but nothing really bad as the company itself. From what Ive also seen Phase connect doesnt seem to be bad and havent seen much if any drama from them. Big corp =/= bad, but its also focused on more when they do fuck up.
With that said, atleast vshojo and hololive, are doing things they want to do and being paid VERY well to do it. Selen spent 200k last year, and she didnt make a profit, but they didnt say she owed money for shit so she made AT LEAST 100k/yr on the low side and up to 200k/yr and nijisanji has probably one of the worst contract deals. Hololive girls are making bank, so far vshojo.
@@brandipityha9457 Who cares about the drama associated with them? The issue is the contract terms. We have no idea which companies are good or bad in the vtuber space, because of these NDAs that would be insanely overreaching in any other space for a content creator.
There's been a healthy cycle for the past decade or so of creator management groups, where the bad orgs crumble when a competent person gets in, leaves and warns everyone about how terrible that company is for creators. These absurd NDAs in the vtubers space serve virtually no purpose other than to completely block anyone from openly warning people that it was a bad company with an exploitative contract.
IU think a lot of the vtuber community has super rose-tinted views of how these orgs actually work, to the point where a lot of the vtubers in these orgs are happy out of blissful ignorance of how much they're being used.
Not all vtuber orgs are like this, but these dogshit NDAs that should be dealbreakers make it impossible to say which ones aren't.

I was at dokis livestream just to see how she was doing and not only was she having the time of her life in there but it seemed like she was way more relaxed and being herself which was awesome to see, probably that stream in general did her some good to just be among people who were there to support her. I hope and pray for the best for her in the long run cause I couldnt even imagine what she was going through and amount of hell shes been through but im glad shes still around.
She's already thinking about tournaments, collabs, and community interactions - she got her wings tied before, now she is a free bird. And I'm all for it.
And I hope we get more of Tomato Doki. It's hilarious.

To be fair, if it was the same length or barely longer, that would mean that they didn't add any transformative work, which means there would be little to no difference than watching the original video. Though, it is funny to look at the length ballooning.
For clarification of "Corpo owning the talents", Hololive/COVER did not force their talents to "burn" their previous works. The talents can continue their previous job as VA, streamer, singer as long as it does not conflict with their job with Hololive/COVER itself. The management even stated that most of their talent works there as part-time job.
If a talent is also attending a college or university they will also advise then to prioritize that over Hololive. Also Mori and Kaela stated during a Palworld stream that management would get pinged if they stream above a certain amount of time a week and make sure to check on them if they're okay and recommend they take a break.
Fyi the only one in hololive that doesn't use new identity instead use the previous identity from the indie days is hoshimachi suisei, suisei is always suiesei even before she joins hololive
Most of the time, the corporation provides the model, so owning the IP is something I understand. That being said, what Niji does, asking you to nuke your past life, even work, is borderline exploitation - "You MUST depend on us."
There's a whole world of vtuber companies out there and they are not all functioning the way nijisanji functions. It's pretty bad to paint them all with 1 brush

I'd never thought i'd see the day when both genshin and nijisanji are currently being boycotted at the same time.
I've literally checked out on the whole genshin drama because I was too busy to even try to follow it, but what's up with that? I kept hearing everyone say that it was a wild blowup of drama between genshin content creators, not something with the actual game they all play, which is why I never bothered to catch up[ on it.

Than the CN players base didn't like that and started review-bombing Genshin and doing massive unfollows on Genshin Douyin and Bilibili accounts aswell as unfollowing corporations that have collaborated with Genshin such as PizzaHut
Tectone said that we should show the CN players that we have the same concerns as them and said that we should Boycott Genshin impact to affect their wallet even more
Then Zyox made a Tweet about Tectone's and Doro's reaction to 4.4 version with a title "the duality of a man". That alone brought hate towards Doro for being "overly positive" about the game and even more hate towards Tectone for being so "negative "
Then Tectone made a responce video stating that content creators (CC's) should be honest with their audience and voice their concerns about the game. He said and i quote :"If you genuinely enjoy the game, play it but if dont enjoy the game, stop pretending like you do"
Then other creators like Atsu said that Tectone is farming the drama for views and subs and that since he doesn't play Genshin anymore, why does he care
One thing led to another and some CC's showed their true self and truth finally came to light
Some say all this drama was planned by Hoyo to keep attention away from the Boycott but no one can confirm nor deny that

Will protect them at all costs. AKA they will protect their talents secret life and not interfere Talent’s outside the stream. So means that, Every Hololive members can continue with their lives outside the talent stream. Look at Demon Dice/Calliope a perfect example. Or Dokibird with Mumei relationships or Kiara and Pomu.

4:45 On top of the company taking a cut of every revenue source they have, Mysta Rias (who has since left) claimed they only paid him about 2% of the profits made from _his_ merch.
There's also allegations that Nijisanji doesn't help them make their debut videos, so they have to fund these videos out of their own pocket, which would explain why Shu Yamino's debut video was just him wiggling emojis around on a background while doing voice over, instead of an animation or a beautifully presented comic or animatic. Remember, they had to make this video before they even started streaming for the company, so they hadn't made money from working for Niji yet.
Nijisanji having a tendency to not pay for things led to Selen paying $200,000 out of pocket for her projects last year.
And that's just the projects that Nijisanji _let her do_ because for quite some time now, they kept stepping in her way and stopping her from doing projects she wanted to do. We all knew when her contract reached its end, she was going to leave.
Nijisanji also slipped up by admitting that they locked her out of all of her accounts on December 26th, so the tweets that her account posted _after_ that, saying she had been hospitalized after an "accident", were not her. They cut her off from being able to talk to us and claimed she was in an accident. There was radio silence for over a month.
Also, the cherry on top of all this?
Management didn't tell her she was getting terminated. They made the announcement, her friends messaged her about it, and that's how she found out. They didn't even have the respect to tell her she was fired to her face.
How manipulative top corporate businesses are is scary and when Teccy talks about how it is celebrated in Japan how they manipulate animators for less than livable wages too is a great comparison. Crazy how many businesses do this all over the world like idol & K-pop organizations.

I do think some agencys splits and compensation as well as some practices might not be ethical or great, But I think they can open up a lot of opportunity that otherwise wouldn't have been there, when it comes to hololive as an example, they don't own their models and the compensation prob isnt the best, but they also do stuff like Connect the world, and holofes, gura is currently the face of an aquarium in sendai japan sure gura even in her past life did not need Hololive to become famous, but i don't think she would have gotten the opportunities she has gotten, mori calliope, if she didnt join hololive, she prob might have never gotten signed with universal's music label, these are examples of opportunities outweighing the financial aspects, with nijisanji however they are a over 2billion dollar vtuber org and gave none of these types of opportunities to their talents so they get screwed financially and don't get opportunity.

I'd like to remind everyone that Selen/Doki has never, even up till today, alleged that her harassment/bullying was done by the other talents at Nijisanji.
All of this witchhunt bullshit came about because Anycolor threw each and every one of their Livers under the bus in Selen's termination notice.
If she had had her way, she would've come back after her break, announced her graduation, and publicly left the company on neutral terms.
We wouldn't even know what had happened to her if Niji hadn't used her account after she was locked out to make a post about her being in the hospital.
None of this is Selen's fault. None of this is the Liver's faults. Even the harassment and mistreatment getting to the point of her _attempt_ is the fault of their decision to bloat the EN branch to the point where management is practically non-existent.
Nijisanji may not fit the textbook definition of a "Black Company", but it's getting pretty goddamn close.

I dont really get why people get so hung up on the "owning" identity thing that basically points to "only Vshojo good" when it is proven time and time again that the process goes: a complete nobody with a small audience gets a much larger audience under a "new identity" and if/when they leave, they bring a huge portion of that audience with them to their "old/new identity". See Zaion to Sayu, Nina to Matara, Mysta to Kuro, Coco to Kson. And if you're so in love with your "corporate identity" it didn't stop Michael Cat from literally making her model look like pink Rushia. I think there are way more important aspects to focus on criticizing vtuber corporations, like what Nijisanji is doing right now, than going after the "owned identity = bad" angle when it arguably matters the least.
I would counter the suggestion that streamers - particularly VTubers - do not cultivate transferrable skills. Many VTubers particularly cultivate business administration and, quite heavily and particularly, project management skills. As an analyst who worked quite closely with project managers many of the off-stream tasks I hear a lot of VTubers engaging in - planning collaborations, sponsorships, music projects, merch/business projects and partnerships, etc. are all skills I've personally noticed to be HEAVILY related to project management. And in case anyone is wondering project managers demand pretty hefty salaries - especially in a tech company setting. Selen/Dokibird is a perfect example of this with all of the national and international APEX tournaments she's hosted (one of her tournaments was officially sponsored by EA), or JaidenAnimations who went from a content creator and now VTuber/streamer to managing a team of people, cofounding content creation groups, etc. These are large scale examples sure - I don't recommend anyone leave their jobs if they're a tiny indie VTuber but for anyone making enough VTubing/creating content to sustain themselves on, those people are also likely cultivating project management and business administration skills.

calling out unfair treatment against Nijisanji? well the last time that happened in NijiEN her name got dragged through the mud, Niji making sure her termination notice included character assassination, then Niji fans harassed and doxxed her. until today harassment has not stopped, and actually picked up momentum again because her name resurfaced as a lot of people who doubted her back then realized that what she revealed was true.
unfortunately, NijiEN revenue is only 20% of Nijisanji, and they still have a good size of support from the EN side. so when Nijisanji said this will have negligible effect on their revenue, they actually meant it.

on the citing wikipedia i make a point to do any of my papers exclusively from wikipedia and i always get an A. people dont seem to realize that wikipedia has sources on it and accurately cites them for you. you use wikipedia to condense the information then you double check the source and cite the source not wikipedia you get done with your paper way faster and you get to flex on your teacher at the end of they year when you reveal every paper you wrote was from wikipedia. I really believe that OTK should make like an OTV branch or separate org for Vtubers exclusively get them a better PC (starforged perhaps) pay or help them get better or updated models, do some collaborations! Because idk you, soda, asmon, and others already have relationships with many vtubers, and I think it's a natural fit and eventual evolution
The name OTV is already taken by a different group of streamers. Tbh i watch those guys ever since michael reeves joined so when i first heard of OTK i thought they were a weird side hustle thing for OTV or somehow linked with them. But apparently they have nothing to do with eachother.

The short of it is that it's one of the few tools available to us plebes to possibly force a corporation to be less shitty. The big caveat is that they have to be a the end of he production chain, while being something that we can either do without or have alternatives to. Also given that there is probably is a quite of bit of Americentrism that comes into play in the English speaking sphere of the internet. We do also have the whole bullshit thing where money very much ends equaling political power. So a boycott can also be seen as a tool to influence policy decisions from the government.
Throw in the fact that they can only work if there is enough buy in from others in the the community. That we sometimes are dealing with marginalized groups that are rightfully fearful that members of their community will be seriously harmed or killed. That people can quickly forget that we all do live in various bubbles, when it comes to information and it's not hard to see why things do get really ugly at times with boycotts. It doesn't excuse some of the horseshit, for instance death threats and threats of violence are never acceptable, but we can see how you get a certain level of irrationality, where people lash, not in malice, but as a result of fear and sense of powerlessness.
To make things worse with the Anycolor boycott. Is that Anycolor knows there is a chunk of the community that is very hesitant to hurt the talents. There is another chunk that will lash out at people for doing anything they consider as a slight against their oshi. That there are also a few facets to the sub drop. There are some that are dropping their subs and memberships, even though they really like a talent and want to support them, but realize that nothing will change if Anycolor feels they are still getting a solid payday. There are also some that are being fickle and this was just an easy excuse to get them to pare down their subscription list. So you can see how Anycolor and their rabid defenders have some ways to blunt a boycott. They have a hostage that some members of the community are loath to cause harm to and then they can paint those that do go through with a boycott as just being fickle.
I know your intent isn't to defend Anycolor's BS, but it's a pretty broad brush to paint everyone dropping subs as being fickle. Yes, there are some people that are doing that and don't want to admit that they were just waiting for an excuse to make them feel like they needed to tidy up their subscription list or people that are partaking in virtue signaling, but there are also plenty of people where they have put thought into this and they probably feel like shit because there is no good option. If they don't boycott, then Anycolor might pull in enough money, where they'll decide that "Yes, we can treat our talents like shit because the community will let us without consequence," and given what we've seen from their handling of Selen, I would not be surprised to see them double down on their abuse to send a message that they have the power and they can do what they want. If you do boycott, even if it does force Anycolor to change their ways, I have serious doubts here, it still feels like shit because all of their talents that are good and honest people, are now collateral damage. It sucks ass because there is no good answer here, even when we consider all the facts.
Also worth considering that the talents get hardly anything for their efforts. I'd say the 1-3% of merch profits has all been but confirmed. It doesn't appear that they get any of the resources one would expect of an agency, a manager that gives a damn and knows what they are doing, nor a network that puts them in touch with resources and other companies to create things. Doesn't appear that they pay for anything other than character models and even then there seems to be a fair bit of foot dragging. They can't take the IP with them when they leave and Anycolor seems to put them in a contract where they can't have any sort of digital footprint at all. Hell, look at how a fair number of talents have to tab dance around talking about their time in Ninjisanji because of just how oppressive their NDAs are. So in cases where they might have been able to leverage their time at Ninjisanji, they really can't without going through a ton of hoops. Likely have to worry about abuse within the company and also walking on eggshells in hopes that their employer doesn't shit can them and publicly drop a giant list of offenses that they might not be able to publicly dispute. At best Anycolor can take them from having very few subscribers and viewers to having a large audience and I guess stable, if not too small, paycheck. Even factoring all that in, and realizing that a boycott probably pales in comparison to the harm that Anycolor is doing their talents, to the point where the company going under might actually be a positive for those talents. It still feels like shit.
Honestly though, the one thing that has me most worried about the situation now. Is that someone may yet up dead, thanks to Anycolor's vague bullshit post about talents harassing other talents. I'm familiar with how shitty the internet can get and I'm also well aware of the mental health issues within both the streamer and vtuber communities.

Nor 100T paid their athletes their PCs, and the games they play cost pennies compared to the drawing of the model and rigging, also projects cost money to start, and that money needs to come from somewhere, even if sponsorships can allow the companies to recoup.
Just Selen as an example: She spent $200 THOUSAND on her own projects, almost as if she was an indie Vtuber.
That would've been money that the agency would have to have available to fund those projects, and it has to come from somewhere.
Agencies also tend to use exclusive artists riggers and media creators like editors.
Also someone has to pay for the managers.
THE AGENCY should be able to have sources of income to cover some of the costs, but that doesn't mean that they have to spend all of the money by themselves.
Agencies function like RUclips MCNs.

Im curious of Tectones opinion on Hololive compared to normal idol groups as well as Vtuber groups like Vshojo and Nijisanji. From what I have seen and heard they mostly are treated fairly. They at least get 50% of all shares in sales and stuff. Sure they get overworked at times too but I have heard that they get mental care and Vacation time. Sure they don't get to take their Vtuber model with them when they leave but they still have opportunities open to them when they leave. In my opinion I don't see them as a black company. I know that they are still under corporate influence but they at least are treated fairly and despite the fuck ups they have made in the past they at least take accountability for their fuck ups. The whole Rushia I feel like most people now have mixed feelings about rather than the anger they have had at the beginning. Also the China branch incident which they disbanded the whole branch to protect 2 of their JP talents I feel was both warranted and unfortunate but they probably did what was needed to be done because they didn't know who at the time was harrassing their talents. I also know that their is some weird stuff with Holostars which the company keeps separate from the girls. Maybe because they know idol fans can be toxic when it comes to seeing their oshis interact with members of the opposite sex.
The worst part, many people of the vtuber comunity that now are agaisnt the evil corpo. When other people talked about bullying, they were silenced and isolated, many fans defended the behavior of this company.

speaking as someone who is a fan of several of the nijisanji talents (not the company, fuck the company, sink the yacht), i don't know how to handle this situation. the earnings of the streamers are wound up so tightly with the company that you would be forced to hurt the struggling streamers to get at the company. i can't justify shooting the hostages to attack the company, because these talents are all hostages and ruining their financial situation along with their mental health in the process doesn't seem like the best way to save them.

Imagine, joining Hololive, debut and get 200k+ subs in the first week. But they give you the IP, so you just leave with the free model and monetized youtube channel. What would stop people from doing that if corps gave out IPs? Everyone knows the vtuber models aren't cheap, so theres no way you get hired and have to fork over 5-10k to get the model, they give that for free.
Make long contracts then and/create clause so the company can take part of profit (like shares) after the artist quit the management.
There's already similar case in KPOP agency or any other artist agency in general.
The one who works and create the identity of the IP is the artist either way, not the management. Especially in Nijisaji case, they dont even support Selen ffs.
Good point and that makes sense, but contracts are probably usually for 1 year, so they will get their money back most likely for the model. I prefer Vtubers keep their identity. (Also I can't remember if Nijisanji pays for the models or make the streamer pay for it?)
