In flight tuning really helps a lot you can see dynamically how an inav setting change impacts the flight characteristics and not have to keep landing and launching, so tuning airtime is hugely extended. Yeah, I am happy how the E6000 coating turned out.
Thanks Silvio hopefully going to get out today and give her a proper run as the rain ended the maiden early. The English weather has not been that great recently and flying opportunities few and far between.
Cheers Dave, the white ones are available again, they are calling it the White Falcon this time 🙂 Just started another one I fugured that it would be better to have a fully built plane rather than just a load of spares for my travels around Europe. Should be pretty quick now I have all the parts and the processes all tested.
Thats is face of being pissed off at Mother nature for daring to rain on my new wing. I never crash btw they are called evolutionary development flights :-) The fuse protection worked really well although I would have rather not tested it on the maiden at least I know it works so I can apply it to the new build I have just started.
Nice one, I saw the roll FF come down from the orig. 50 to 23. That's what gets updated in INAV 6, only the FF, at least that's what I thought Pavel stated. I'm just needing to maiden my Mini Drak. You have a brilliant looking wing there!
Thanks Caroline, that definitely explains it, I will inform Mr Hoffman 🤣Good luck with the MD I need to get mine done before heading to Germany in August, that one will be nerve wracking for sure or are you a cool and calm maidener?
Great maiden. Very smart looking build. Can't wait to seeing more of details and the mods you implemented. Did not realize E6000 could be used for protection. I assume the added weight is minimal? The results, and demonstration were very impressive. One of Andrew Newton's famous Tx radio outro's is "I meant to do that." ;) With rain, it may be possible to fly 1/2 mile in one direction and have the plane flying out of the rain if isolated vs. a line of rain. This technique won't avoid rain at the home point however. Being prepared with an umbra, or lifting rear hatch on a vehicle can make for temporary shelter.
The E6000 thineed with Toluene and brushed on was an experiment but I am very pleased with the results. The E6000 to cover the fuse, hatches and winglets was only about 40-50 grams, I estimated by weiging the used tube compared to a full one, on this build I will weigh it precicely before and after coating. First time I got caugfht in the rain while in the air and I panicked a bit I had visions of my FC getting flooded with water and something terrible happening 🙂 As it turned out the inside of the fuse was dry as a bone and I had no need to panic, next time I will be prepared after this first experince and just remain calm and land. And yes of course I meant to do that to test the E6000 coating :-)
My battery and lid fit really tight on my AR Pro. Had to do some shaving to make things fit. Because of that, I put velcro under the battery and place dollar store foam shims in front of the battery when I know CG is good. Helps on hard "landings." And I feel ya. Panic stalls in shitty weather and conditions. Did that in my mini drak in freezing rain. Shoulda chilled and waited for my pulse and blood pressure to drop before thinking about landing. Had plenty of battery but rushed myself to get it on the ground, further raising my pulse and blood pressure. Plane was fine. I was rattled.
Hi Jim, I went into panic mode, for some reason I thought the plane was going to fill with water and something horible happen. Looking back at the video I don't know what the hell I was doing should have just circled and came into the wind and landed with normal throttle etc. It was the first time that happened so if it happens again I will know what to expect and be a bit calmer hopefully. My lipo is pretty tight to the front of the hatch and the lid only just fits and does not shut fully I have a 3-4mm ridge so I think I will shave some off the underside of the hatch to try and get it flush. Yes the Air Unit switch is damn handy.
Always pleased to see your vids pop up in my notifications Glen. Great video mate. I am now no longer an iNav virgin as both my Dart250g and XLe are now flying it. One day I may be a good as you......or maybe not 😂. Cheers Mick.

Cheers Terry, looking forward to a nice calm warm non rainy day to really tune it and put it throughh its paces. It felt good in the short run I had tbh.
Without the stall I never would have tested the coating mod, every cloud has a silver lining and all that :-) I am looking forward to the next flight but the UK weather is not looking kind for the coming few days.
Glen, thanks for the great flight!! I too have stalled my AR Pro ending in a crash last year. Pulled all the data looking for a cause, it was just way to slow and low. It is easy to do, but I think it is a mistake to make only once :) It likes the speed and always lands hot too. Question, for the for DJI and the osd. Do you have the option to have the footage that is stored on the VTX to have osd or to not have osd and can you decide that in post?
I cannot wait to get out and fly her properly and give her a good tune. I have moved my CG a few mm forwards so it is on the front edge of the CG marks under the wing. I don't usually fly that slow, but I was panicking and worried that if I flew fast that rain would get inside onto the electronics 🙂 With Goggles 2 and the old air units on latest firmware there is no recording on the VTX it is disabled and goggle recording is includes the OSD. On the O3 air unit the VTX records with no OSD and the goggles with OSD. No option to add OSD in post as far as I know.
Awesome maiden mate and glad to see how well this coating works! You should sell the premixed stuff :P Regarding the Autotune. After seeing your video the roll tune was done properly. Maybe a bit short but beside that it was good. For pitch I am not sure if you did the sharp turns with full pitch up? If you did then it was too short and autotune did not start to adjust. With your throws and the wooden Elevons it should change the FF values from the defaults. Also I suggest to make it a bit more nose heavy than it is. maybe 30-40g in the nose will help preventing that fatal stall spiral you had. It was very pitch nervous and roll unstable when you became slower and this is an indicator of a backward CG.
The E6000 really did a good job although I didn't anticipate such a good test on the maiden. I will need to do another complete setup flight as the rain stopped play and I will try moving the CG forward a bit as you suggest and as Caroline kindly pointed out Autotune only adjusts FF and rates, that said I will set my rates the same as the test plane as I am used to how that handles and I really like the feel.

Just wondering were you have yours balanced? Mine is Balanced in center of marks but sure seems nose heavy. Thanks again
I have my CG in the centre of the marks, I run with about 5mm uptrim and enable Continuously Trim Servos on the inav configuration tab and that works well for my setup. The Wing is fractionally nose heavy but will not tip forward on the marks.
Thanks Glenn, I guess im still learning inav but seems if your flying with 5mm up on control surface's with continuous trim enabled that inav would just move control surface's back down to get level? It just seems with that much reflex in mid position its indicating nose heavy. I'm probably missing something here. Thanks again
Glad you enjoyed the video. My AR Pro is pretty heavy at 1600 grams and I have balsa elevons and non stock motor and prop so you will get better results if you use the inav stock settings and then do an Autotrim, Autotune and Autolevel process. I dont Autotrim as I have that permanently switched on in the configuration tab. I set my elevons with 3-5 mm up trim at 1500. Do that and you should end up with some great results. Good luck for the maiden 🤞
Glenn, She looks great and appears to be a quality setup... So, whats the AUW? Great idea on the DJI switch.. That initial cold GPS lock can take a bit... Sorry about bruising her a little.. That E6000 trick does a great job.... Great video friend... - Will
Cheers Will, AUW is 1600 grams, she is not light but I like that planted feel of a heavier AR Pro personally for proximity flying. The DJI switch is very handy, these DJI air units get hot very quickly with no airflow. Minimal damage, was good I guess to test the E6000 coating, just didn't expect it on the maiden 😃
Just ur typical maiden... Hahaha! The e6000 layer seems insane, i cracked my fuse HARD with way less of a altitude and speed... Did u weigh the fuse with and without the e6000?
I was surprised how well it protected the foam, I estimate I used about 50 grams of E6000 on the foam. I will do a precide weight on the next build which I am starting soon.
The only thing I don't like on the AR Pro design is the Air inlet Ratio is Way Out of Skew, Normal RC or Control Line RC craft have an airflow inlet to exhaust ratio of 1/3 in and 2/3 out. The AR Pro airflow has about 3/4 in and 1/4 out that needs addressed and corrected.
Hi Tom I am not experienced enough in the aeronautical engineering technical design arena to even have considered such a thing. What advantages or change in flight characteristics would there be if the AR Pro conformed to the ideal airflow ratio?
@@bluefish3607 less drag! cool air has less volume than warm air, warmed air volume can double, more exit area can lower internal pressure of the airframe and help with extraction. Love the quality of finish & colour scheme glen. P.s do you sell the 3d printed parts for the pro as I don't have a printer. 😕
No I dont sell them but if you PM me via Facebook messenger I will happily print the parts and pop them in the post to you Greg.
Thanks glen, will be in touch as i am in France at moment. Just wondering what make/model your 3d printer is as I may go down that road soon.
@@gregorydobson4307 Hi Greg I have an Ender 3 Pro. I think I paid £180 for it about 5 years ago and it has been excellent. I just fitted a new motherboard £40 to upgrade it and its now even better. They are enormously useful for the RC flying hobby and for me added an additional layer of interest.
Thanks for that glen, think I will get one of the creality printers as I have a phantom fx61 build and a couple of 7 inch quads that need some parts to finish.
@@gregorydobson4307 They really are a fantastic piece of kit, I use TinkerCad to design my parts and its free and really easy to use.
Hey I watched your channel probably 3 years ago when I had my ar wing going. Has much changed in the hobby since then?
Hi Nic, not much really, a few new kits, but I guess the biggest innovation has been in the digital FPV arena, flying with 1080p with my Goggles 2 and O3 Air Unit is a real joy. Do you not fly planes or quads anymore?
@@bluefish3607 I haven't for a few years now. Found it just got a bit complicated and as soon as I had a bit of a break I'd forget most of the stuff needed to get things running again. Would like to eventually get into wings again! Trying out RC cars ATM
@@domanater480 I had a spell with RC off road cars many years ago when my kids were small, still have 3 nitro TMAX in the garage that I was thinking of converting one to electric and installing inav on it for a laugh.
Enjoy your cars and if you do have another go at wings inav is much easier and works pretty much with all standard settings these days.
Will acetone work with E6000 instead of toluene?
I really have no idea, toluene is readily available and not expensive so I would go with that as we know it works.
Thanks. I’ll give that a try.
Nice mods, is there any place i can download them?

@@bluefish3607 Thank you man! love you channel :)
@@mediashotsgroningen1800 your very welcome
Why you have two antennas on the o3?
Its an orginal Air Unit with the latest firmware to make it compatible with the Goggles 2.
@@bluefish3607 oh that makes sense! :) Cool
Battery 🔋 your using?
CNHL 4S 5000mah 70C
What’s the stall speed??
Not sure of the exact speed but at 1.6kg you have to keep the speed up especially on banked turns. I have had a few crashes due to turning too slowly.
привет мой друг из Сибири ты снимаешь на O3?
Записано в Goggles 2, но с использованием оригинальной воздушной части с последней прошивкой.
Holy crap, u could actually kill yourself launching like that....
We all have to die someday so it may as well be when your doing something you love, right. 😀
