      The Avet HXW holds the same amount of line as the Penn 113 HLW (wide 4/0) which is 500 yards of 40lb mono. The 4/0 holds 400 yards of 40lb mono and the Daiwa Sealine 50 holds 300 yards of 40lb mono.

    • @MattsSaltwaterFishing
      @MattsSaltwaterFishing  5 лет назад

      The water temperature at BHP right now is 66. By May the Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel should be here. If the air temperature and water temperature warms up faster then maybe April. The Jack Crevalle usually show up before the Spanish Mackerel and Kingfish. I heard they caught a nice sized shark off the pier the other day. I haven't heard any reports about redfish or black drum though.

    Just bought an hxw raptor today and was worried I wouldn't be able to cast it. This video made me feel better about it, because I plan on using it to cast with a 12ft surf rod on the beach. How does it cast? From the video it looks like it casts just fine.

    • @MattsSaltwaterFishing
      @MattsSaltwaterFishing  3 года назад

      It casts great! If you are able to cast a Penn 113HLW (wide 4/0) then you should be able to cast the HXW. It's not going to win any distance casting tournaments but when you hook a fish on it you can actually Jack 'em up with it.

    Nice work casting into the wind guys🎣🎣..What are your thoughts on FTU blanks..have you used them?
    How do they compare to jawbone,or steadfast?

    • @MattsSaltwaterFishing
      @MattsSaltwaterFishing  4 года назад

      Thank you! We never used the FTU or Steadfast blanks so can't really compare them to Jawbones sorry. I can however compare the Jawbones to the Harringtons and Gator Glass. The Jawbone H552 is very similar to the Harrington 552 as far as casting, whip and the way it loads up. The Jawbone 1052 is a noticeably stiffer rod and is more similar to the Harrington 553 and Double Wall Gator.

      Rod blank

    • @MattsSaltwaterFishing
      @MattsSaltwaterFishing  4 года назад

      @@treshijasfishing2378 you're welcome. Generally speaking a longer rod is going to give you more distance. When throwing a 6' - 8' 400lb mono leader with an 8oz spider weight and a chunk of mullet it isn't the most aerodynamic setup in the world so I would think the distances would all be similar. If I was going for an 8oz spider weight and chunk of mullet setup I would go for the H552. If I was gonna throw a bit heavier baits like a chunk of stingray then I would lean towards the Double Wall Gator or 1052.
