The antiquated and lack of electrical infrastructure to meet the needs of the EV market needs to be addressed. At some point the states infractures will not be adequate.
I don't know how long it took for the "gas station infrastructure" to fully develop (where there was a gas station reasonably close depending on ratio of cars to population), from the time motorcars were on the road (say 1905) but lets say 30 years. I think it's reasonable to expect the same sort of timeline.
@@MoonlightingJamesExcept there was a huge boom of oil pushing the growth of the infastructure for gas powered vehicles. There is no such boom for the production of electricity. We're afraid of going nuclear and none of the renewable options is even close to enough to sustain our current grid let alone the massive increase of energy that EVs would demand.
Yeah... I mean, seriously, you can't own one if you don't have a garage. My neighbor recently offered to give me his 4-year-old Nissan Leaf b/c he's upgrading, and I had to turn it down because we only have street parking and wouldn't be able to charge it. 😔
I know we have to get to electric vehicles eventually, but there are quite a few things about them that need to be improved/perfected before they totally take over. If they have an $80000 price tag, I couldn't own one. And if it costs $10000 to replace the batteries after 5 years, that's another big expense. They need to make these cars affordable, safer (especially preventing battery explosions), faster charging, longer ranging, and be able to function as completely in sub-zero weather as they would in the summer. I worry that since I'm the kind of person who buys the $2500 specials off the used car lots to get me around town, that someday I'll be disenfranchised from driving because I can't afford a car to drive.
Even if it can't the solution isn't to give up on electric cars. The solution is to improved the grid. However, it's not so bad thus far because a lot of people charge at home overnight.
Yes. This concern is overblown pearl clutching. 80% of EV charging is done at home. This is unlikely to change much or quickly The growth rate of EV uptake is slow enough to easily allow for electricity infrastructure upgrade.
If we truly have a consumer-driven economy, the infrastructure will be built, and the truth is, we do charge overnight mostly. It’s long trips that are very concerning. It’s a safety issue. Gov has to step in and hold electrify America accountable for their lack of upkeep and d ease of use.

They want you to think the government is against you. But in reality you have the power to vote for your government. You have no vote in corporations. Corporations are not democracies. Corporations are like dictatorships. They're controlled by one or very few people called a board of directors. Why are you against the only institution where you _do_ have democracy? The crisis of climate change is a fact. EVs help to mitigate that. So promoting EVs is a good thing regardless of whether you like the government or not.
IDK about rural areas & small towns, but here in Columbus, OH, there are charging stations all over the place! I've seen a charging lot in Reynoldsburg, stations along the street (where you can charge your car where you'd be parking anyway!), & even a charging station at a Walmart! Also, you CAN charge your car at home with a regular outlet in the garage. It just takes longer (like overnight)!

For a while before the pandemic she was clearing over 6 figures a year. Now the pandemic happened and she lost her job. No one wants to pay her the same wage in which she worked so hard for all these decades. She should be enjoying her retirement at 60 like most first world countries. This has brought so much despair and her health is getting worse. Since we live in Texas none of us can get health care that's worth a damn. It not affecting just younger generations but older ones to. My mother deserve a damn reward not the bullshit she is going through now. What my mom has seen and understood is seeing me and my brother both struggle. He is gen Z son and works his ass off to hopefully become the best doctor he can be. It is going to cost him in the end $400,000 in debt! Here is a young man who works himself to the bone and if it was not for having to good parents he would be screwed. Should we charge future health care professionals $400,000 to get through med school? Also I was a brilliant student. I was one of the top students in the country and was given an IQ test. I scored high enough to go to the most prestigious school in Houston, TX but I got sick with a mental illness at 17. To this day I have been doing my best to get help and doing everything on my part to get better. I am $70,000 in debt with no college education because I kept getting kicked off my health insurance. It should not be that you where once the most promising person in your family to being almost homeless begging for a expensive doctors help. My most likely diagnosis is O.C.D. and I found an amazing place to get better for a few months but they want $60.000 and like my psychiatrist specialist they do not take insurance. What kind of shit system is that? We just feel 8 points in the Happiness score. This pure un regulated capitalism is not going to end well and that why I am moving to Finland in the fall.
Smart phones have more computing power and ability than 99% of the population needs. 99% chance you're fine either way. Apple's gonna cost more and there's a status symbol going on like a Mercedes. But again 99% don't even use 5% of what the phones could do ten years ago. Nobody needs 4k decoding on their phones. They'll build and bake in the software updates so you need to upgrade eventually but really for most people you should be holding on to your phone as long as possible before recycling it. It's 99% marketing.
This is exactly why apple is the status symbol, though they did teahouse a few years ago: whereas Samsung has a massive range, with a flagship all the way down to cheap options, apple thought they're rolls Royce, only need 1 model, then sales stayed dropping when those who couldn't afford it, that's why they've come up with ways to keep you locked in

The antiquated and lack of electrical infrastructure to meet the needs of the EV market needs to be addressed. At some point the states infractures will not be adequate.
Looking at more nuclear power is scary.
I am working "I could kill a poodle with it" into every day work conversation this week.
It’s always been about power and control.
Kara is a gift to the nation. She is brilliant.
The main issue with EVs is the infrastructure not being able to support the demand!
And right now, it's worse for the environment to power them without a full nuclear grid.
Automobiles in general were a bad idea. We should all be using mass transit but because of GM that efficient form of transportation was rejected.
@@ThegaoatThis is the type of thinking of someone who lives in a bubble.
Kara Swisher just joined the list of my favorite people.
It's so complex, but there really needs to be something done about these huge companies being monopolies. Really.
My wife and daughter don’t like going to gas stations either!
You can have enough stations across the country for EVs but will the electric grid be able to handle increased demand?
Even if it can't the solution isn't to give up on electric cars. The solution is to improved the grid. However, it's not so bad thus far because a lot of people charge at home overnight.
Yes. This concern is overblown pearl clutching. 80% of EV charging is done at home. This is unlikely to change much or quickly
The growth rate of EV uptake is slow enough to easily allow for electricity infrastructure upgrade.
If we truly have a consumer-driven economy, the infrastructure will be built, and the truth is, we do charge overnight mostly. It’s long trips that are very concerning. It’s a safety issue. Gov has to step in and hold electrify America accountable for their lack of upkeep and d ease of use.
@@SolidAir54321 if EV was solution to helping the environment the powers that be would not be pushing it lol. last time I checked the schools low on educating our youth but ya lets focus on ev. The government is not our friend.
@@chillones9574The government is not your friend but the fossil fuel industry is??? But big corporations are?? You're a victim of Ronald Reagan's propaganda machine.
Great panel this time!!!
Awesome. Right after the show.
Both those ladies were very quick and witty. I'm impressed
Raise your standards
Kara's new book is excellent. A "can't put it down" read. Bravo...
🙂 Plagiarism, gossip, and self-aggrandizing anecdotes really fills up the pages!!
The women are killing it this episode.
Great clip - great personalities with good senses of humor. More like this, please!
Kara Swisher just told Don Lemon that he is more gay than black. She said it to his face at that. Whatever the hell that even means😂
Once you amass enough wealth, you're the elite. You're bubbled off from whatever demographic America says you were. Even if you're discriminated against, you still have way more privilege.
Isn’t his boyfriend White? Lol
It means he is more about the culture wars than about the real problems that are faced by the American lower and almost extinct middle class
I can tell you this....straight black men have negative attitudes towards gay black men.
@@chimchimindiandragon Why do you say "almost extinct"? I think it's growing larger and larger but, like most middle class people, the black middle class is pretty silent. Don Lemon is not middle class, at least based on income. I'm sure until he got fired, he was making a solid upper class salary.
Sarah Isgur is freakin' awesome!!
yeaaaaasssssss Kara!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great panel tonight! Refreshingly intelligent conversation!
Ìt was interesting that once the ladies got going on a answer too comedy ending roll poor Beto and his boring flat political answers got canned

I love those Blue Bell ice cream sandwiches, too, but haven’t had one in years. Gotta keep the weight down.
Kara Swisher is one sharp lady. Flaring of brilliance an makes a great guest.
So brilliant she responds to statistical data about young men as a personal attack and replies ONLY with defensive, egotistical anecdotes? 😂Also, were you not a reader during the years she built up the false celebrity images of tech bros in the early years? 😂
@@hd7704 , True I was not a reader when she "built up false celebrity images of tech bros". So I can't form a complete opinion of her. An people change, keep this in mind. But from her recent takes she strikes me as highly educated woman with our interests in mind. I'll grant you the term "our interests" could be debated depending on our P.O.V.
"Why are men getting turned off to the Democrat party?" - "Well I asked my teenage daughter that question and here's what she thinks..." - yep, that encapsulates the actual answer right there
Did you hear what Beto said after that? Because that was the answer you were looking for.
😂😂😂😂
How did you miss that?
I know, you didn’t like that a teenager could have an opinion.
@@Etatdesiege1979 I don't know if it was Beto's honest answer but it boiled down to 'abortion' - which was equally ridiculous. I mean it had nothing to do with the actual question. He basically just chose to talk about something completely different
Big companies hate regulation and fight it unendingly via lobbying and lawsuit...😢😢😢
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. They love when regulations exclude their competition.
@@SuperLeica1 Exactly! As long as it hurts others but not them.
You should fight every bad regulation. Nazi germany everything was regulated, then they took the guns and then 6 million dead Jews. The left is literally on the wrong side of history trying to disarm America when most of us are good law abiding citizens. The criminals however are the politicians that INFRINGE.
Large corporations love regulations and are usually the ones lobbying for it. It helps keep out competition

Kara Swisher is a legend.
Here's a tip: when a host is trying to explain a bit to the audience, you shouldn't interrupt and say "I'm aware." We know you are aware ; you're the expert.
Kara Swisher should be a regular... This is one of the most intelligent women I've ever seen on the show....
She's boring.
She's also a plagiarizer and a hack who is pretending she wasn't the fake journalist who did the most to make a-hole tech bros like Elon famous in the first place (while getting rich)
Beto is much better
@@opposingcounsel I like Beto too!!!
Thank you Beto for fighting for Texas values.
Kara Swisher studied propaganda[9] and received a BS in literature and journalism from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in 1984.[10] In 1985, she received her MS in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.[11] She also "spent some time" at Duke University studying misinformation and propaganda, which Swisher stated were "always my area of study".[12]

Hey Bill. I've heard you announce your upcoming show at the Eccles Center in Salt Lake City, Utah for a few weeks now and it cracks me up every time. I'm pretty sure you've pronounced Eccles AT LEAST two different ways and neither was right. As a former Utahn (who barely escaped that 1/2 state - 1/2 Mormon Convent with my balls intact) I have to admit, I'm surprised nobody (like your manager/agent) has corrected you. It's pronounced Ek-Ulhz. Just thought I'd let ya know before ya get there. Mormons are weird. LOL Keep up the great work, man!
Great panel. Thank you!

LOL
I was a 90's latch key kid. It was not the end of the world I learned to take care of myself and if I did something bad then I would get the belt and trust me I learned my lesson. My mom came here legally in the late 70's and never had the time to get a college degree. It just was not needed for most jobs. She worked hard and is a survivor.
“Don’t make fun of my millennials” 🤣🤣🤣

Smart phones have more computing power and ability than 99% of the population needs. 99% chance you're fine either way. Apple's gonna cost more and there's a status symbol going on like a Mercedes. But again 99% don't even use 5% of what the phones could do ten years ago. Nobody needs 4k decoding on their phones. They'll build and bake in the software updates so you need to upgrade eventually but really for most people you should be holding on to your phone as long as possible before recycling it. It's 99% marketing.
Smart phones have more computing power than the first systems onboard the Apollo rockets to the moon.
This is exactly why apple is the status symbol, though they did teahouse a few years ago: whereas Samsung has a massive range, with a flagship all the way down to cheap options, apple thought they're rolls Royce, only need 1 model, then sales stayed dropping when those who couldn't afford it, that's why they've come up with ways to keep you locked in
Marketing, exactly, & it's not just phones, it's cars, handbags, cruises, don't get me started on jewelry, esp diamonds. Just billionaires tricking dumbo folk who have money to keep spending or to impress others
@@kurtsudheim825 They all employ planned obsolescence but I'd agree Apple is so much worse. It's basically their manifesto.

great panel.... love Kara Swisher
Kara is a stone cold legend. The smartest person on the panel by a double digit margin.
That’s what smart is to you? Kara made her fame and fortune by building up the false celebrity images of tech bros in the early years. Sensing the mob turning against tech bros a few years ago, she rushed in the other direction to pretend she’s leading the charge against them. Typical influencer personality that easily manipulates the low knowledge or low literacy crowd (who can’t recognize plagiarism or Wikipedia lifts). Congrats!🙂
@@hd7704 Yes IMO she's wicked smart. I highly recommend Burn Book. Few tech journalists have a better perspective on the promise and the threats of the internet age. Thanks for weighing in.
