- 50-year-old Mark Latunski is about to be interrogated for the murder of Kevin Bacon, but the interrogators are in for a roller-coaster. Although they aren’t new to murders, they definitely weren’t prepared for the diabolic things about to come out of Latunski’s mouth, and to make matters worse, he’s talkative, ready to speak of all his crimes while being unfazed, like it’s some flimsy joke.

Mental asylums need to be brought back
They exist it’s just really hard to get into one. I work for a psychiatry unit so beds are not as available as you think they would be.
If u are from the US, they exist. They have been renamed to: Psychiatric institutions/hospitals.
They have mental hospitals. They are just mostly private and outrageously expensive (pretty sure its on purpose to fulfill some fucked up govt plan)
Why? So we can extrajudicially imprison people for mental health disorders ranging from panic disorders to psychopathy who will be experimented on against their will whilst not actually addressing their condition or trying to fix it in any meaningful way? Reverting back to an old way of doing something is very rarely productive. This man and Kevin Bacon were both failed by an inadequate and ineffective justice and health system. He is clearly mentally unwell, that does not excuse his reprehensible actions but it's clear through his interrogation and his testimony that he completely believes what he did was justified, he believes what he did was noble, he believes he did what Kevin Bacon wanted him to do. Whether the evidence proves otherwise is inconsequential if we're supposed to uphold the idea of requiring mental competency but apparently that can be waived off if the insane man claims he is not insane? The point of a competency evaluation is to determine whether or not someone has the mental faculties to understand what they did is wrong. It's like using the word in the definition when trying to define a word, it just doesn't make logical sense. That being said I do absolutely believe that this man is a danger to society and does need to be held in a facility where he can receive treatment, this is a step that should have been taken much earlier than this and if it had been taken when the first incident happened with the police Kevin Bacon might still be alive (though if what he claims is true Kevin was suicidal so maybe not, and as far as we are presented this murderer has been shown to be open and truthful about what he's said as reprehensible as he is). From a purely numbers stand-point this case is nothing outstanding, 1 mentally unwell person killed 1 potentially mental unwell person but the problems that caused this situation are pervasive and this does nothing to solve that problem, all it has done is further cement a precedent that the way to deal with severe mental health issues is to wait until they have killed someone and then let them rot in prison.
For some cases that may be the case. For some the fact of the matter will be that they will be irredeemable and are destined to be a menace on society. But shouldn't we at least like try some preventative measures? Like surely the default of "just wait until they kill someone and then we jail them" cannot be the best we can do.

Okay, as evil as this guy obviously is, he is so clearly insane that i find it appalling that they rejected his insanity defense. At a minimum they should have locked him up in a mental institution for life. They got this one wrong. Now he is going to be a danger to himself, other inmates, and/or prison staff.
Things like this are honestly common in the prison system. Many people who are clearly mentally ill are found guilty anyway and end up creating more problems in prison.

The scary thing about people like this is that they can convince most people of anything, they are usually highly intelligent and can come up with a story in seconds and that's how he got that one man to come back even after the traumatizing first visit.
This man should have been arrested long before that young man was murdered, there were several 911 calls from different men telling the same story yet it didn't raise any red flags to law enforcement so they're also partly responsible for his death.

Goofing off on them one on one, face to face, based on whatever oddness I've seen, is one thing......especially if such information isn't known. I’ve watched more interrogations than I’d care to admit. I must say that this tactic is far better than coercion or bullying. I would imagine this minimizes false confessions? There was a similar case in Germany. Two guys (I call one A and the other B)agreed that A can eat the B's body part while B is still alive. They both ate B's body part (B ate his own body part). Eventually A killed B. A is serving a life sentence.
