Yes! Me also! I always felt it needed to have a banger like that to show off what the genesis could do! I wanna do another video showing all the awesome games that came out right after launch cause that’s when the console really showed what it was capable of. Thanks for watching bro.
Never will forget getting my Sega Genesis for Christmas. Was a bundle from Sam's Club with Sonic and Quackshot. Loved the Streets of Rage games, Eternal Champions, and Comix Zone.
Sooo many bangers for the Genesis! It came out with guns blazing for sure! I love that console. It’s definitely under appreciated. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching and sharing your memories
I remember inviting my friend Steven over for my birthday party and he was spending the night, it was Summer after 3rd grade I believe, and I told him " bring your sega games, I might get a Sega for my birthday " and I did, we drank soda and ate cake all night breaking in my new system. Great memory! Cheer Retro!!
1989 baby! Great episode. Well done. Awesome seeing some Genesis. I had battle squadron as my shooter on Genesis back in the day, wasn't that big of a bully tho!
Thanks man, I really tried to capture the real feeling and awesomeness that was playing a 16 bit console for the first time back then. I hope it gets some eyes on it.
Even though I was never the biggest fan of the Genesis, I absolutely loved this video! I remember as a kid loving Sega because they were the king of the arcades. Altered Beast, Shinobi, Out Run, After Burner! All absolute killers! And you were so spot on. Seeing those arcade style graphics in a home console when we were kids was mind blowing! Altered Beast was always one of my favorite arcade games as a kid and I was impressed when I had seen it ported to a home console. Even though I was a Nintendo kid through and through. The summer of 1988 will always be the Sega summer for me. Glad that you got to experience the Genesis first hand at launch. My first time playing it wasn't until January of 1991! Great video my friend. And try not to get too discouraged about it.
I really appreciate you watching the video my friend! I’m glad you have some memories also of that time period. The Sega Genesis was so good and I feel it’s under appreciated! I was a huge nintendo kid also but I had respect for what the 16bit Genesis could do! Just a month after launch sega released some bangers in 1989! So it definitely came with guns blazing! Such a great time to be a gamer
This is a masterpiece! Amazing video dude. I relate to this so much because my experience is a lot like yours. Man I still remember opening my launch model 1 and plugging in Altered Beast and being blown away by the big pixels and that awesome soundtrack. I was done, SEGA 4 Life! Yes Altered Beast was a great pack in game.
Thanks man! I really appreciate you watching the video, and showing my channel some love! I’m glad I was able to tug on those nostalgic strings of yours! The Sega Genesis is definitely an underrated and unappreciated console. It was my first experience with the 16bit generation and it completely blew me away! It will always be in my top systems of all time! The first time my uncle threw in streets of rage and we heard that iconic intro music will never be forgotten! But I’m glad you loved the video. I put a ton of heart into it. I plan on doing another 1989 video about the remaining bangers that was released at the end of that year because that’s when the genesis really shined and showed what it could really do! So thanks again for watching my friend.
@@RetroReminiscence I’m going to mention this video and provide a link in my next video dude. I’m small potatoes but I’m going to do my part to get more eyes on this.
Man I really appreciate that! It’s not all about getting the views, but it always makes you feel good when people watch it that have the same passion as you. I really appreciate the shout out bro. It means a lot
Shared some great memories here man, and things like finding something in common with a bully, dude, that's like movie worthy goodness there! I'm always fascinated by how well celebrity endorsement works as (Tom here) I could give a flying flip about celebs. But it's neat to hear that a marketing ploy Sega incurred genuinely worked and grabbed attention.
Yes they did! They really knew how to grab the market and say “pay attention” such a great time to be alive. They went with the celebrity endorsements because Nintendo had such a huge foot hole back then and a bunch of no compete clauses in place. So sega had to try something drastic! I appreciate you all watching. Thanks!
I picked up my Genesis a few years after I got a Super Nintendo in '92. I'd played the master system thanks to my cousin, but didn't know about the Genesis until later & bought it myself along with a number of games like Sonic & Moonwalker. I had to be one of the only kids to save up $500 Canadian to get all these things through my allowance. Video games taught me a lot by proxy, money management, how to fix & build computer, sauldering & how to have fun on my own. I may have been a bit young at launch, but I've still got a Genesis today because it's an essential part of gaming history in my books.
Yes! Great story and you are completely correct! It’s an essential part of video game history. I know a lot of people clown on sega now a days but you couldn’t do that back then. You had to respect them. They were a powerhouse in the 16 bit era. They actually took a ton of the market share from Nintendo back then. So I love sega and the genesis. I appreciate you watching my video and supporting my channel.
Yes exactly my point I was trying to make in the video! Seeing arcade quality games at your house was a mind blowing thing back in 1989! I appreciate you watching my video my friend.

It was unbelievable when it came out. The games were near arcade quality and they were good. It was stunning to see a non Nintendo game console be so good. Nintendo had a near monopoly back then in gaming.
