    Blender's Bevel tool is used to create chamfers or fillets from the edges of a mesh. You can either use it via the toolbar or by pressing the hotkey Ctrl B.
    Edge Slide is great for moving an edge along the direction of the surrounding edges. The fastest way to get to it is by pressing G for grab and then immediately pressing G again to toggle a slide. You can also slide vertices using the same method.
    Loops, paths of connected edges, are one of the core concepts in 3D modeling. To select a loop, use the hotkey Alt LMB. If you're using the Emulate 3 Button Mouse option, double click on an edge instead. To add a new edge loop, use the hotkey Ctrl R and hover your mouse over an edge that runs perpendicular to the path you want the new loop to take.

    I speak Japanese, and due to the nature of our pronunciation, saying "roop cut" makes enough sense for me to remember. (not a joke)

    I came for the bevels, but I stayed for the edge loops. This is an excellent guide, thanks for the help.

    4:10 Thank you so much for the process on how to apply bevel correctly to objects that have been scaled. I especially appreciate that you used the interface to show exactly where that option was instead of using shortcut keys . This method of teaching helps people with accessibility issues and who have difficulty using shortcut keys to learn 🙏

      Theres always that extra UI menu that pops up at the bottom left and then disappear. dunno how to bring it back...

    • @devilsgarage
      @devilsgarage 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@eladbari Ah, yes - the contextual menu that disappears on any action performed. Kinda wished it stayed there or was available from the outliner until the mesh is edited (like Cinema 4D)

    • @eladbari
      @eladbari 6 месяцев назад

      Is there no Hotkey to make this contextual menu pop up again? If it disappears, then, that's it? You've missed that train....? @@devilsgarage

    This is a very cool series. Even though I am quite an advanced user, I still learn a lot.

    Very nice tutorial ! I made a vase, and after making the upper part I found out I would have to extrude inward to make the inner side of the vase as well. Very satisfying to make progress tutorial after tutorial ! Keep up the good work !

    I'd say that R could be short for "Rip" or "Ring," but both of those words mean something specific in Blender and they don't apply to loop cuts. Maybe "Razor"? That makes it sound like the knife tool, though.
    The best alternative I can come up with is:
    Ctrl+R is a Really important shortcut to remember. It can cut Right through the faces of your model. There are plenty of Reasons to use it Regularly!

    Ctrl R = Round cut
    That's how I remember it

    5:44 I think Ctrl+R stands for Rotary Saw. It's easier to remember than Loop Cut.

  • @rutgerspaans3672
    @rutgerspaans3672 5 месяцев назад

    CTRL + R, control RIP [as in to slit: to penetrate with a sharp edge (as a knife)].
    Edit: seems ripping is already a unrelated thing in Blender (shortcut V :) ).

    Just encountered a issue where the ALT-Left click isn't selecting anything for me. I am in Blender 4.1 but I even tried in Blender 4.0. and nada...😮 Must be something I am missing because I google searched and it says exactly what you said. Bummer....just something else for me to pull my hair out on.

    It's prononced "fill-it" and I've worked ten places and they all say the same thing. "Fil-ay" is for the people that don't know any better and have just eaten a fish filet sandwich.
