    I think I've become addicted to Shipwreck Sunday. After church, I check my notifications to see if you're channel has a new program. I just love your channel. I've also gotten interested in other ships. Speaking of which I recently came across the SS Cape San Juan tragedy in 1943. I was researching the USS Indianapolis when I came across the Cape San Juan. I looked through your other programs and couldn't find the Cape San Juan. If you haven't done a program on this ship you might want to check it out.

    Here's a mystery, possibly an urban legend, I heard this as a little kid in Northern Illinois. There is supposedly a German submarine, possibly from World War One, that somehow found itself in Lake Michigan in the Chicago area. It found itself on the bottom, how I can't remember. The interesting part is that it's full of mercury, mite be leaking. I haven't heard anything new in decades.

    The truth is, after mid 1943 the Kriegsmarine traded submarine to ship loses nearly on a 1:1 base. The hard trained crews from the first 2 years of war are mostly gone and the next generation had no chance to get experienced. Add to this the better equipment and tactics of the Allies, this turned into a kind of suicide mission.
    The Moby Prince is a real dark story.

    • @shipwrecksunday
      @shipwrecksunday  39 минут назад

      @@andreaslermen2008 I noticed that! It's a similar feeling to how Japan lost so many of their skilled pilots, and the ones that came into play afterward had no chance of being as experienced. Moby Prince is a dark story, and definitely her spot light! ❤️ Cheers!!

    The Flak Gun is a `Vierling`, ie 4 barreled 20mm not the larger type 42, 37mm as fitted to U505. Further, your pictures seem to indicate a lack of a 105mm Deck gun as famously employed by U123 (Hardegen) off the US E Coast when she navigated inshore of an already torpedoed Tanker to avoid overshoots hitting mainland America, an admirable, if risky action whether prompted by Politics or Humanity. Creditable Video, viewed late and marred by BT and You Tube (see my rant on Jamie`s Excellent Empress vid!). Bring on Moby! (Should have problems sorted by then, fingers crossed).

    Off the coast of New Jersey looks like a virtual graveyard! A person could literally spend years diving & exploring.
    I was reading a little about the father & son that lost their lives diving to U-869.
    Both experienced divers, but they breathe just compressed air, not the trimix of helium, nitrogen, and oxygen. The bends can get even experienced divers.
    One of the doctors that was treating them said that when they took blood it was foam!
    You know, when I was in school about a hundred years ago I was always told that except for Pearl Harbor, there was never a shot fired on US soil, in an international war. Germany was very close during WW2!

      @shipwrecksunday one more thing, then I'll leave you alone!
      I had asked an experienced diver about sharks, he said "we don't worry about sharks".
      Sorry, but I've watched documentaries about how shark infested the gulf of Mexico is, then we all have heard about how many sharks are close to the beaches in Florida.
      Not to gross you out, but a 19 or 20 year old was trying to save his younger sister from undercurrents in Florida a few weeks ago, when he was swept under by currents. His head washed up on the beach 3 days later! Sorry about the graphic nature, but we know what caused that!
