Saw this today on a product and i'ma having a hard time with the word order. I understand the words....but not the order of the sentence.
It reads "Lassen(leave) Sie(they?) Ihr(you, formal) kind(child) nie(never?) Unbeaufsichtigt(unattended?). In French it would be "ne laissez jamais votre enfant sans surveillance".I imagined the sentence order would be the same in german and and confused as to why it isn't. Please help me with this.

      Hey,
Good sentence and a very good question. The "nie - never" is placed in front of the negated adjective, similar to the example in our episode "Dieser Salat ist nicht frisch.". Additionally the sentence starts with the verb because of the formal imperative (verb form to give commands or suggestions).
Lassen Sie Ihr Kind nie/nicht unbeaufsichtigt! - Don't/Never leave your child unattended!
Just remember that in German the "nicht" is often placed directly in front of the adjective or adverb.
Mach den Tee bitte nicht zu heiß - Please don't make the tea too hot.

Still don't get it ☹. Why can't you say 'ich habe nicht einen Hund'? Isn't the nicht negating the verb haben i.e. 'I don't have..'?
