    I wonder what the dialogue in the ending will be if you don't process Sebastian side quest.
    EDIT: Tested it, and he will not mention his uncle, but the other parts are basically the same. The quest will wait for you to finish even after the house cup(Sebastian is not in the cut scene).
    Wish there could be an alternate ending for the Sallows, we already knew Rookwood cast the curse but the player just kill him anyway, instead of keeping him alive for information.

      My headcanon for that is - there's lots of reasons why you need a spell for fire or to cut something in half, but there's no purpose for the unforgivables except to harm and control others. That's why they're banned while spells like incendio and diffindo are not (confringo is apparently restricted since it's also an aggressive spell). It's like why in real life governments ban firearms, but they can't ban knives or mallets which can technically be used to kill people much more cruelly than a gun. These are tools that aren't supposed to be used for violence.

      @luisaveiga644 Год назад +15

      @@ComedyLoverGirl @Peacekeeper I haven´t thought of that! You´re totally right! But, still, I joke around because many times in the books or in the games it looks like that using the spell is much more of a problem then the killing itself. Along the game we kill a lot of bad guys with other spells but with the killing curse it becomes a issue while with the others is ok

    • @polski8bit
      @polski8bit Год назад +202

      I mean his uncle was an ex Auror. He most definitely knew his ways with dark magic and we never really get to know why he left the Ministry with grudges. He was most likely right.
      The thing that annoys me the most however, is not the uncle being an absolute asshole, but the fact that with the dialogue options the game gives you, you still DON'T have a choice. Even though I always picked the option that should realistically lead to stopping Sebastian, I was pushed towards the only outcome the devs wanted. I've never felt so disconnected from my character in a game, because my reactions and feelings were completely different. Hell, I was SCREAMING "Cast Expelliarmus or something" when Sebastian was ready to fight, KILL his uncle. Like let me knock both of them out and drag them out by force.
      So I've chosen to turn Sebastian in. Yeah, I don't feel sorry for his uncle because he was an asshole - maybe didn't deserve death, but not my compassion either - but there's one important detail about Sebastian. He says he didn't want to hurt his uncle. But as Ominis says, the thing with unforgivable curses is that you have to MEAN it. To WANT to cast the spell in question. Whether it's causing pain, or killing someone. Sebastian WANTED to kill his uncle. There's no way around that. He could've used ANY spell in existence, but he chose Avada Kedavra. It goes for the Imperio curse as well.
      I liked Sebastian in the first half of his story. His motives are definitely righteous and sweet in a way, but his methods are not. He's been warned several times, but never listened. Sure he was desperate, but as the main story teaches us - sometimes there IS no solution. Sometimes, there are fates worse than death and such a fate he's brought upon himself and Anne to be honest.
      I like this questline a lot, because the actual answer as to Sebastian being in the right or wrong, bring guilty or innocent is not so clear.

      @brandonnmm Год назад +78

      Fully agree. I tried to make good choices throughout the game. Tho this quest line I took the dark path bc it felt more righteous than the, "good," path imo. Idk sabastion had his stupid moments for sure. Tho like everyone said. He was a naive teenager who wanted to help his sister. His uncle was a complete prick and tried to trash on him every chance he could get for him wanting to help his sister. Sabastion had good reason and was a good person altogether. Just fell down a very dark rabbit hole trying to do the right thing for his sister. Plus I couldn't betray sabastion after he went out of his way to take the fall for you during the restricted library mission. Dude was a real homie and I didn't regret standing up for him when he killed his uncle. You never get to find out if that relic could've saved Anne or not either bc the uncle destroyed it before you guys could try it out on the curse. No matter what. It's like sabastion said. His uncle gave up on them both and didn't seem to care about helping Anne and went as far as to sabotage you both for using dark magic to try to help someone.

Just never get a chance to use it that way. At same time they afraid of such power so they never touch it these who do ether feel guilty n stop or turn all evil. I really wish they hadn't abandoned the idea that we might have been able to save Anne with our ability. I was really looking forward to how that would pan out, but it seems like they cut that as well and just made sebastian's story more linear. I think it would have been really interesting where you have to choose whether to help Anne with your abilities (thus treading a similar path Isidora started down, possibly earning the distrust of the keepers) or not-- and if you don't help, then Sebastian gets desperate and uses the relic. Although they'd also have to talk about why 'manipulating emotions' equated to removing dark magic curses, but I think they could have done it if the main story had been more fleshed out (what actually is ancient magic vs what's in the repositories and the connection between that and the more common magic vs dark magic).

    I like that the choice to turn Sebastien is not based on the absolute morality of "good and evil", but more a personal morality of "how far is too far". As a twin myself, the whole storyline made me ask myself "how far would I go to save *my* sister?" (I'd like to think I'd go as far as Sebastien).
    Sebastian hands down has the best storyline of the three main side characters in my opinion.

I'd like to think, Anne did know what Solomon did, and that's why she didn't hate him.

      @@Acuas Technically, if Sebastian was exaggerating one way, Solomon was exaggerating the other. Because from some points of view, it is hypocritical that Solomon used the unforgivable curses in the past but that, even though he regretted having done so, instead of warning Sebastian to prevent him from making his mistakes, he instead criticized him and judged. And Solomon was no longer looking for a cure. He had given up. And that's the reason why Sebastian checked with the dark arts to see if he could find it. And Sebastian's reasoning is justified because even with muggle medicine, to find the antidote you have to know the poison. I mean, even Doctor Strange used dark magic when it was necessary. The truth is that Solomon was a purist who saw everything in black and white. Sebastian may have provoked him when he destroyed the relic (of which we never knew whether it could really have saved Anne or not), but Solomon chose to react to that provocation instead of trying to calm him. And when Sebastian killed him with the Avada Kedavra, he got hindsight afterwards. it's true that when you use curses you have to really want it, but I think that means you have to want it at the moment you use them, not in general. So it makes sense that after killing him he regretted doing it. Because his was an impulse dictated by anger and hatred. Because after all, Solomon, instead of saving him from himself, imposed himself with arrogance, and repressed him until he exploded.

      I mean, you might be right, the only way to know everything, is if somehow we get a DLC or another game, where we can see all the story, without that, all we can do is theory craft, and as far as that goes, I really would say that Solomon did try, we don't know if he was still trying, or found something no one else knows and that's why he stopped, the only thing about the entire story I don't like, is the fact that we the player didn't try to use ancient magic to cure her after the story, maybe this is all for a second game, or a DLC, I at least hope it's not the last game we see, even if I found the game lacking some things (would have loved to start from year 1, transform into an animagus, and finish school), it was fun, so I really would like to see more.@@lpallad1

His uncle ruined their chances of helping Anne, attempted murder, and if he had been allowed to live after losing the fight would have turned him and the player in to Azkaban. The Sebastian storyline was good, but it had the potential to be great. It is clear the writers had a clear goal in mind with the story and didn't really consider the player's experience going through it. There are several points in the quest line that feels very contrived. Like how Uncle Solomon immediately shuts down any attempt of Sebastian's to cure his sister, instead of trying to get him to actually understand the situation. Or how Sebastian goes from friend to psycho and back again whenever the story needs him to be irrational.
    There were several situations where I thought it would have been great to let the player character intervene or take initiative, but instead we're mostly a passive observer who's just along for the ride.
    Wouldn't it be great if Sebastian actually hesitated at some points and you could influence him? Like, he's getting second thoughts about the whole thing because Ominis argued against meddling with dark magic, and you could maybe tempt him down the dark path, or you could encourage him to look for a different and better solution.
    A branching quest line where one path has you driving a wedge between Sebastian and Ominis as you delve deeper into the mysteries of the dark arts, where a more reasonable Solomon tries to talk Sebastian of the ledge and you can kill him to stop his meddling or drive Sebastian to do it, and actually find a cure to Anne's curse by having Sebastian sacrificing Ominis.
    Another path might let us discover a non-dark method of saving Anne, but at great personal sacrifice for Sebastian.
    Something that actually gave the player some actual agency.

Either way don't hurt our MVP Ominis though. He doesn't deserve it. xD

      wasnt sudden solomon has gradually lost hope after searching to no avail is my understanding, doesnt seem too contrived or anything thats just solomons flaw as a human being. And its normal for people to be erratic like sebastien was. you have to consider all the emotions and shit he was dealing with, the panic and frustration can get to you at some points and then when youre out of it you realize that it was wrong.
      the only parts i really feel like seemed contrived were near the end, i dont think sebastien really had any reason to kill his uncle, and he seemed way too cool with it afterwards. also him just immediately teaching you the spell afterwards was hilarious.
      i 100 percent agree with everything you said in that second paragraph though us being able to manipulate the story and the characters emotions more would be amazing and really give this game an even darker vibe. i sort of hate how friendly and happy go lucky your character is throughout the game when thats not what im tryna be

    Anyone else think the dark relic and/or Salazar Slytherin's spellbook maybe negatively influenced Sebastian's behaviour, similar to how one of the horcruxes affected Harry etc? Stoking his desperation to find a cure and his fear of losing Anne, along with his animosity with his uncle and his misplaced hatred of Goblins. Especially near the end, one minute he was hopeful our Ancient Magic could help Anne, then the next he's having a party with Inferi.
    I definitely didn't turn him in. I really enjoyed Sebastian as a companion, despite some of his questionable behaviour. Besides, dude had it rough: orphaned young, lives with uncle who is an unsupportive and aggressive ahole, then his twin sister is cursed to live in pain and waste away in front of him. Rotting in Azkaban as Dementor chum wouldn't have changed what happened. He seemed genuinely remorseful and grateful we stood by him. Him and Ominis were the best. 💚🐍🩶

      It's not a horcrux do it shouldnt have that same ability. Only things with a 'soul' can do that. It's possible it could I guess but it's really unlikely it has a life of its own like the other things.
      Sebastian would have pushed it until he landed in Azkaban even if he wasnt turned in he's a villain that's hard to see as evil but he doesn't care about his friends and his obsession with obtaining the power to be his sister at the cost of everything or everyone is psychotic. I played Slytherin the first time and Sebastian was my ride or die. I loved his character. I could see his descent into darkness and was totally torn about practicing dark arts with him, but I still wanted to help him try to find a cure no matter the cost. He really had the best intentions and his uncle was just making everything worse, especially attacking him in the catacombs rather than trying to help him. It wasn't until Sebastian made the comment about the MC being ignorant about goblins that I got kind of fed up, but I still couldn't turn him in. I like getting to see more of Ominis in the other ending just because he's my favorite character, but I feel getting Sebastian expelled and most likely sent to Azkaban would just put him on the path to being another Victor Rookwood, not to mention the torture he would endure at only 15 years old. Yes, what he did to his uncle and the goblin under the Imperius curse was unforgivable and that darkness and willingness to take a life will always be there inside him, but at least being at school with the people who love him would be more constructive. He deserved to be punished, but I was also thinking about Anne and Ominis too. They would have no one if Sebastian was arrested. That decision impacts more than just him. The consequences will just have to be for Sebastian to live his life knowing what he did and that the two most important people in his life will never forgive him for it.

As much as I liked Sebastian during my playthrough I have to say that him knowing all of the unforgivables at the age of 15/16 is concerning..Why would someone want to learn these? He had always fancied the dark arts even without Anne was cursed. I have mixed feelings about him.. And when Ominis tells him that Anne burried his uncle alone he says 'I had to do it' and then seconds later after Ominis mentions that Anne is considering turning him in he is like 'turn me in?. Then he turns to the main character angry and anxious and says 'I never wanted to hurt my uncle- I-' which is obviously a way of self-defence trying to convince the MC that he regrets what he's done so we don't turn him in. It's as if he manipulates us again (let's not forget that he is adept at manipulating) into thinking that he has ackwnoledged what he's done. In reality he still thinks thats he is on the right.

    The entire questline was the best part of the game for me. Only problems I have is the option on what to do with him, it's either one or the other and one of them is too much for a child. Then there's the fact that you can't get Ominus in the undercroft saying sweet things like, 'you've proven to be a true/friend' unless you send Sebastian to Azkaban. At the end of the day as a Hufflepuff I couldn't do it, out of loyalty, and for my slytherin I couldn't do that to my fellow housemate whom I learned the curses from because that would be extremely hypocritical. That's like saying I should turn myself in as well. Basically I personally think he's suffering enough, what with having killed a family member and having driven Anne away whom may never forgive him and has gone somewhere and not told him. For me, pretty much severing his relationship with his sister possibly forever is punishment enough

    It's interesting how turning Sebastian in sends him down an even darker path (Ominis mentions how Sebastian's hatred towards goblins and dark wizards only grew). Also Ominis and Anne are absolutely miserable losing him, understandably, and it's interesting to see here how they're quite unsure if they did the right thing. I had never seen this ending, as I always saved him despite for what he did. Really hope we get to see more of Seb and Omi later!

    People seem to forget that part of the unforgivable curses are that you have to have the intent to do what the curse does. Otherwise, it doesn't work. Sebastian didn't want to just stop his uncle. He wanted to kill him. Then, after that happened, he doesn't really feel remorse for what he has done to his uncle, only how Ann is reacting to him.

      You don't like him, that's fair. No one's going to be liked by everyone. @nikaz5 yes, he had the intention to kill his uncle. It was horrible, but he did it for the right reasons. And he may not have felt remorse in the moment, but you can tell that he was struggling with his decision. He lost himself, and once that finally settles in and he realizes what he’s done, he does feel remorse. He’s a very complex character, and this is a very complex situation, but even though I don’t agree with his decision, I can’t help but feel awful for him, my heart breaks for him because he deserved so much more

    • @spacewizard77
      @spacewizard77 Год назад +6

      @@SnowDreamFlakeit’s a lot more complicated than you think. What he did was wrong and unforgivable, but nearly everyone would have done the same if it was to protect or cure a loved one. He’s not a psycho, he’s not a monster, he’s human. He’s so much more complex than “good” or “evil”. No one is simply good or evil, there is so much more depth to it than that, so many more layers to peel back. Sebastian is the prime example of a tragic character. He deserved so much better than what he got. He only ever had the best intentions for his sister at heart. I don’t think it’s fair to damn him for that

    Honestly all these "he's a good lad" comments are a little unnerving. The Killing Curse isn't like a gun were you can accidentally kill someone you have to want to kill for the spell to even work. Him saying "I never wanted to hurt my uncle" is a lie. The whole time he just keeps saying he's doing this for her Anne when it was clear that he was doing it for himself. You see that at the point before Solomon comes in he's talking about using the Dark Magic from Anne's curse. I honestly wish that when he first found they relic you could team up with Ominis and take it from him then and there.
    In the end I didn't turn him in because Azkaban isn't a placed I'd send my worst enemies. It wouldn't help and would have likely just driven him even more mad. I really wish Anne had a larger part in this story. Sebastian claims everything he's doing was for her but both he and Solomon took away all of her autonomy. They both pretended they knew what was best for her. Ominis was the only person that was taking Anne's thoughts and opinions into consideration.

    He was willing to sacrifice a village to save his sister, who wouldn’t approve being saved this way
    He would if given the chance kill Goblins indiscriminately because of his growing hate toward them
    He killed his uncle in cold blood
    In his current state of mind, if left free he would make more dark decisions that risk other lives
    The fact is he is dangerous either way as much as we grown to care about him
    Our character, if they learn the Curses would use them Dark Wizards and monsters that threaten Hogwarts in self defense in contrast

      A year later but I finally found a reasonable comment.
