How to tank in wow
In this video I try to touch on the basics of tanking in World of Warcraft. Patch 5.4
Things are active and you will have to learn your own specific class abilities and mechanics.

Hey bud just wanted to let you know this bide has helped me understand tanking alot better. I'm new to the game and I'm still learning how to run dungeons in general and this was a big help. Wish I had chill people like you to play with in game seems like people won't help u at all wen ur trying to learn
I have anxiety and I was always afraid to do roles like healing and tanking. My guild recently asked me to tank on my death knight and at first I was really scared of being called I sucked, so I brought a friend to come run instances with me. Bringing a friend helped me not run away from tanking or have panic attacks when I screwed up. This video also helped me!
you probably don't read comments from this video anymore but man did you help me a lot! After i fell in love with prot paladin i was too scared to tank. but after this video i logged on and did some practicing and gearing and tank an LFR and some flex's :D thanks for the help man!

The first tanking spec I've ever chosen was protection pally and I have a blast playing it, so much fun.
M8!... u made my day. U mentioned everything that I was afraid of. I L O V E tanking, I love to gather group of mobs, get them in a good spot near that nasty caster which as always dont want to move his ass to me, I love to protect my teammate, love to see when those scary eyes changes to happy ones and I can read in them - thank you for that taunt, and sorry for overaggroing! I love to say "guys, this way, ill lead you through this scary dungeon, fast and smooth". But I always was too scared to go for a RAID. That scary thought that someone will think "the tank is a wuss". "tank sucks". I'll try - NOW. It is time to go to the light! To follow the rabbit! Eat blue pill!

Heya, Thank You! Ok so here is my general thoughts on things, if I am going to take a big hit up front I keg smash and blackout kick expel harm to purify quickly, if I know I have a few seconds before the damage is inc I'll get my shield up first and get shuffle up with the next keg smash. For trash I will generally go with the shield first as well and I try to work in a chain of stuns and disorients to keep things interesting. :D

First of all: great video. I've subscribed 'cause your videos are high quality videos. ;)... Second: i like to tank and i'm learning to do that with a BM Monk and i can say that there are few tanks around because there are a lot of assholes around. When u enter a raid in lfr u will find a lot of idiots "shouting" at you 'cause u have not the right gems, 'cause your gear is not good, 'cause u are a panda and so on... so, i think that the best thing to bring back tanks in the game is to stop using them as punching balls on chat :P
I completely agree, that is probably the number one reason. It is awesome that you are learning to tank on a monk.. By far the hardest to play well out of all the tank classes. I have episode 2 of this series coming out hopefully tonight and I talk a lot about the idiots and how to deal hehe.. Thnx for the comment :D

blood dk 691 ilvl i love tanking its super fun.. esp as a dk competing with the healers for healing done meters and owning dps in massive pulls. its a dream. problem is BRF is boring.. and dont hesitate if you want to tank just throw that negative atitude in the wall and get the show going! you will like it!

i totaly get your point, but the thing is with me as a warrior tank that dps is just way too much more enjoyable. I used to be a tank but now im just so bored of warrior tanking, gonna try to try death knight tanking.

Been watching your videos for a long time now and they are great! I have one quick question just in general about monk tanking. I know there is no set rotation but the problem that I have is when I first pull a boss or trash what do I want to put up first? Keg Smash into Tiger Palm into Guard? Keg Smash into Blackout Kick for Shuffle? Keg Smash into Breath of Fire (Glyphed) for damage and disorient?
Just wanted to know your opinion. Thanks!

Tanking always gets the blood pumping and is great fun, so long as you don't have 'backseat tanks' who rush off ahead of you. Chillout guys, you in a rush?
Would u recommend doing raids as a DPS first so u know what to do and where to go before u start tanking? That way I don't walk blindly into a raid an don't know where the hell to go....
I guess that's common sense now that I think about it lol.

After watching your BM monk tanking vid, I went back to PARTIALLY PvEing (still PvPing more) and I have some timeless gear, and some pvp gear, and SOMETIMES people will say "Oh look at that PvP monk tank, how fast do you think he will die? 2 hits from the boss? 1?" and that really annoys me, and I haven't pve'ed since that happened a week ago
Heya, I truly understand that... I would probably have said something to the effect of " Hey assclowns, everyone starts somewhere... so you can shut up and heal me or wait ten mins for another tank..." Pvp gear isn't that far off from the timeless gear and I still was wearing my pvp boots and belt and bracers the first time I tanked 25man SoO... and I did fine.. it isn't optimal by a long shot but it is acceptable. If you were a warrior then no.. but Monks are special :D

The one thing I'm nervous about is what do you do while the other tank has aggro? Do you keep doing your normal rotation or just do a couple things?
That is actually a really good question. Generally you want to keep doing damage because you have high vengeance and your damage output can make a significant difference...Ideally you can just keep on hitting like normal ..... HOWEVER!!!! If you are above the other tank on the dps meter then you do not want to pull aggro back and reset your stacks or worse.. have a boss like Thok face directly into the raid... That is a wipe LOL... in those times I do things like dance and wait for the other tanks threat on Omen to pass me before I start attacking again. Some tanks you have to worry about some you don't.

i just started tanking and gues how i started. i whanted to troll LFR so i just whent whit full dps gear and a lfr 528 item level shield and mace and started tanking just to ruin peoples raid. and it dint work people just sayd to me that as long as you have aggro wee dont care even if you have lvl 1 gear. so now im a tank
new player to wow here, want to tank but feel I'd be better rolling a dps until I learn the game more. kinda stuck between what to do

Today I was tanking a heroic and as soon as I joined a warlock pulled two packs (I have no gear) after I had pulled the first pack and then complained that "tank couldn't hold aggro". So I just told them to shut the fuck up, they talked trash to me the entire dungeon but after that they wanted to queue again. Needless to say; I left. :)

Love the video, Now I'm new at taking I am a Holy Priest and Frost Mage main, But I recently picked up my little Brewmaster tank lady bear. I have a big question.
How do I learn the Dungeons/Raids with out getting everyone killed? I feel very uncomfortable queuing up for anything because I honestly do not know how I should approach this issue and I feel horrible when we wipe and its my fault. Is there a place that can give me detail info on Dungeons/Raids so I can look into them before actually queuing up and getting lost/wiped.
Hey, Thank you! Ok as for some help learning the instances, There are a lot of resources out there that could help you. For raiding, I highly recommend Sunnier's art of war blog, she is amazing and has all the raid boss mechanics you could need. 5 mans, I don't really have any guides for those, nor do I know anyone that makes anything off the top of my head, but i'm sure there are youtube guides out there and you also have the dungeon journal in game to check out. You did however just give me a great Idea and I may have a link for you in a few days... :D

being a tank, i agree. i hate those assholes that you find in every dungeon group.
it feels like they are having a constant competition with you on who is the bigger threat. they feel the need to pull and do more damage than you. its so fucking annoying.
another thing alot of people dont realise that when you pull, its hard for a tank to hold aggro.
If you signed up as dps then dont try to fucking tank!! we are the ones who control everything in the dungeon. why? because we have the balls to be a tank in the first place! these kinds of people doubt tanks for some reason.
this is exactly why there is a lack of tanks in WoW than ever before!!

Just started to try tanking (level 20-ish) and boy did some made me feel like they were full-time troll insulters. If they get too bothersome, vote for a kick since they're more of a liability to the group. Keep your head up :)
I am trying to find what is a better tank Blood dk or Brewmaster. I have both and they are about the same ilvl I just tank more with my dk because just because that was my main before MOP. Any help would be great.
Well they are both very good, It really should boil down to which is more fun for you. The Brewmaster takes a bit more focus to play well, but out of all the other tanks, DK and Monk are the most similar as far as,threat,dps,mitigation,etc. My tanking partner in our 25 man is a DK and we are always neck and neck with everything. So pick one or play them both, there isn't a bad choice. I also use to main a DK before mop.
I forget who told me, but they said Blood Dks have the lowest dps out of all tanks, but got the best survivability. BrM monks got the best dps as a tank and always have a steady damage taken output.
I swear I didn't know... But I added a annotation to make fun of myself ;)

it depends on your class, most tanks need Bonus armor now. I recommend going to icyveins.com and searching up your class and spec, they have pretty good guides to atleast get you on the right track.

I'm not sure which one you mean, I swap a lot. Brawler title is from getting Rank 8 in Brawlers guild. Brewmaster is from completing all the Brew Fest achievements. :D
