    That is actually super helpful to me! As I have big hands, length of needle really does matter for comfort! I still had 3-4 more needles to try b4 deciding on my full set...you’ve shortened my list, so thank you! Always a joy to hang out!

    Great overview of your needles. My first set of interchangeable knitting needles was a Knit Picks set. In the beginning I was a super tight knitter. I ended up breaking several of my wooden needles. I ended up getting a Chiaogoo set in metal. I love them. I am not such a tight knitter anymore, so I can use the wood needles without fear of breaking them. My husband bought me a set of Lykke DPNs and I love them. I have a Lykke set of interchangeable knitting needles on my wish list. I love the Clover DPN's too.
    It may not be true where you live, but where I live you can buy knitting needle sets in different tip lengths. I have a mix of tip lengths.
    I have very long fingers, but because of the way I hold my needles the length of the needle is only an issue depending on what I am knitting.

    Excellent review. I have several Chiaogoo sets - shorties(2&3"), the 4" and the 5". I won't consider my hands small, but I get used to the sizes. The Dyacrafts look beautiful and are currently on sale for $300 - still a bit too expensive for me.
    The reason you find the Knit Pro, Knitter's Pride and Lykke needles similar is they are all the same company. I also fell for the look of the Lykke driftwood and was able to purchase a complete set for $75. But to be fair, as much as I love the look, the Chiaogoo cords make me reluctant to use them. Chiaogoo make the best cords and it's hard to use anything else.

      So you’re saying that Lykke needles are using false advertising? ‘Cause they State that the needles are handmade in Nepal.

    • @Enig_Mata
      @Enig_Mata 3 года назад

      @@PepsiMaGs It may not be false advertising; maybe the company just wants to have a different image for their product. Electronics and auto companies do this all the time. If you look at the cords/connectors for KP and Lykke, you will find they are the same. All other companies have different connectors as part of their proprietary product.
      Just recently, Knitter's Pride released the mindful collection line(MC). One major change is the cords for MC needles are very similar to Chiaogoo as you can get the spin or no-kink twist cords. Contacting any KP retailer, they would tell you all KP cords fit Lykke needles. I believe one of the authorized retailers even had that in the product description. Knit Pro and Knitter's Pride are the same and carry the same product line. It's just called Knit Pro in Europe and Knitter's Pride in US. All 3 companies share the same manufacturer.

    • @PepsiMaGs
      @PepsiMaGs 3 года назад +1

      @@Enig_Mata, I know they fit together - it’s one of the selling points for webshops here in Denmark. But that just isn’t proof that they are from the same company. The Lykke needles’ manufacturer might just be using the same metal fittings as KnitPro/Knitter’s Pride. If they create a story that Lykke Needles are handmade in Nepal, and someone findes out they are not, it would be a marketing disaster for Lykke Needles. So I honestly just don’t believe it before I have seen proof...

    Have you tried the Seeknit bamboo needles? They are Japanese made and absolutely gorgeous. I have both Chiaogoo stainless and bamboo and sometimes need the bamboo when I want a bit of grip. Chiaogoo bamboo needles are nice, but Seeknit needles are fantastic. They are much smoother than CG, have sharp tips but not too sharp (something I find in CG bamboo), excellent joins without a connector tool needed, and are a joy to knit with. You should check them out.

    Thank you, very interesting. I agree with most, some sets I have never tested. I like the clear cases from KnitPro/Drops the very best. Looks like a cosmetic bag, very organized and you see where everything is, just one zipper. Perfect. I wish they'd sell them separately! I think for wood the birch needles are the best for me. My favorite set for everything, for a very long time. The KnitPro Bamboos are great when you want bamboo (extra slippery yarn). I do not like the KnitPro Royale. They are gorgeous but I don't like the metal tips part. I don't like metal at all - but... The Chiaogoo are fantastic. Especially the mini set, they start with the smallest sizes! 1,5mm interchangeables!!! I also have acrylics, KnitPro Marblz. Beautiful, with a bit of a grip. The colors 'glow' because light shines through. So useful at night and/or with dark yarns! You see, I have needs and excuses to own multiple sets :-)))

      Ooh, I hadn't heard of those! I'm not generally big on gold, but they do look good. The case looks really nice too - that's where many (including my favourite, ChiaoGoo) fall short imo, even very expensive sets often have quite meh cases.

    That chiagoo pocket can hold more than you think especially since you have no small needles on that side. I have over 15 cords in their plastic packaging, stoppers, stitch markers, a couple of patterns, and sometimes, if needed, the sock needle case....in the front pocket. I also have mine full of all the small/large sizes of the steel needles and 6 random bamboo needles, in the inside slots.

    Thanks for the interchangeable needle review, Tracy. Just what I needed to make up my mind about a new set...! I’ve been drooling over the DyakCraft ever since I heard you mention them in one of your podcasts (maybe 2 years ago now), but I just can’t justify their price point (being retired and on a fixed budget now). I was seriously tempted during their recent sale, but held off . When you showed the Pony needles, though, I actually paused the video and looked them up. Found them on Etsy (German vendor), for a very reasonable price. For anyone else reading this, they are called “Pony Flair Interchangeable” knitting needles. I have a very similar knitting style to yours, Tracy... Can’t stand 4” needle tips. Absolutely love my ChiaoGoo metal 5” needle tips, but have been looking for a long time for something that would suit me in a wooden needle. I’m really excited to try these out, so thanks again for your review!

    Enjoyed the video but I don't knit with wood/bamboo needles. I did take a look at Dyakcraft and would LOOOOVe a set of their northern light black needles. Just not liking the price point. EEK! May have to buy a single needle and cord to try them out first.I currently have a Knitter's Pride (Knit Picks/Knit Pro) Zing set and the Chiaogoo 5" small set (REALLY wish I had gone with the 4" small set and am considering their shorties set...). I have heard the swivel cords and red cords can be used on both the bamboo and metal needles. I have only used their red cords and love them. I did love my Clover bamboo straight needles back when I started...and used straight needles. Since they are shorter and I'm in the market for a shorter set...maybe I will consider them. Wish you had shown and talked about the cables and the connection...smooth or otherwise.

    We are opposites!
    You hate metal needles for the reason I love them!
    I'm a loose metal knitter and you are a tight wooden knitter who likes wooden.
    I have ridiculous small hands, my 8yo niece has slightly smaller hand than mine.
    So, if you'd like to sell any of your metal or short needles sets, let me know! You made good reviews of them, once all of your negative are my positive points.
    About the ziper, bad quality alloy makes a soft, loose ziper connector.
    If you press both sides of the connector with a plier, it makes the right size in the connector so the "teeth" of the ziper must intercalate to fit in.
    And the first needles I bought were really bad, cheap ones (just to try). I used a pencil sharpener and then use paper sand to make a decent tip.
    Hope any of these tips may help you too.

    Great overview, but I don't think your complaints about the clover tip LENGTH is very fair-- they have to be under 4" to make 16" circulars because the combined tip length can be at most half of the total length. I don't believe the KnitPro set you were comparing the needle to can make 16" circulars, so it strikes me as not the most direct comparison. I just wish you had mentioned this! My apologies if I am mistaken and the KnitPro set does 16"s, too.

    • @thepassioknitspinner2688
      @thepassioknitspinner2688  3 года назад

      It’s also not really a complaint. More a “my preference”, because I can hold the longer needles better.

    • @zacdavid184
      @zacdavid184 3 года назад

      @@thepassioknitspinner2688 I understand, I'm just saying that though you did say the KP were simply the first one you could grab, the short tips would have been a more fair comparison, since the long KP needles cannot do what the Clover can (i.e. make a 16" circular), and this wasn't discussed in the video. I was also commenting for any newer or less knowledgeable knitter who doesn't understand why the Clovers have the short tips, which is entirely related to their ability to make a short circular, which not all full sets can do-- particularly wood.
      Of course for people looking for bamboo needles that can make 16" and up as well as slightly longer needle tips, Chiaogoo now has the 4-inch SPIN set, and KP makes a number of 4-inch tip sets.
      So that all said, why the Clover are not all an even 4" is beyond me; I do not care for short tips either unless I'm using a short circular, but comfort aside, that there is a reason for the short length of the Clover remains the case.

    The bamboo and wooden needles of Knitters Pride/Knit Pro, Vickie Howell/yarnya, Knit Pick, Lykke, Lana Grossa, the wooden needles from Prym, several own brands of some online shops and maybe even the wooden Pony needles seem to be manufactured by the same company in Nepal and northern India. I noticed that, when I was stupid enough to order Vickie Howell crochet hooks in the USA, with enormously high customs duties, and finally got turquoise Lykke crochet hooks. Only the pattern on the shaft is slightly different, the shape of the head is the same and the type of wood and processing is the same. And unfortunately also the weak points of the needles.
