I bought a set of Hiya Hiya. After using them for a single project, I ended up returning them. I am a Chiaogoo circular knitting needle girl all the way. I have the big set, the blue set of shorter tips, the red minis and I have purchased several extra cables. I've heard a lot of other knitters complain about Chiaogoo having 3 different cable sizes (not to be confused with length). I like the different cable sizes. I feel like my projects move better on Chiaogoo sized cables because they are sized to go inline with the needle sizes. I love the blue 9" blue cables for making my own Chiaogoo version of the flexi-flips.

I got the 4 inch by accident and I’m a very beginner knitter. I do not like them. After your review, I am going to try the 5 inch. I had thought about going to another brand, but a lot of the reviews keep pointing back to the Chiagoo. Thank you so very for your time and very straight forward opinion.

@@agnieszka7419 : I do not only dislike them, I hate them! The cables of Chiaogoo nearly are the most perct cables in the world as far as I know. So smooth and soft! I most of the time use the smalest cables and I lengthen them one by one till it fits.
I have the Hiya Hiyas, and with the shortest length cable, the stitches snag at the connection. I even purchased one more to see if it was faulty, and IT still snags as well. Yes, they can fall out of the case (mine is almost square in shape). I didn't realize that my Hiyas swiveled until your video, nor did I notice how that swivel works while knitting in the round or magic loop. I'm thinking of purchasing the ChiaoGoos. Also, not only is that little hole on the connector of the HiyaHiyas or ChiaoGoo to put your key in for attaching (I didn't get one with my HiyaHiyas), but it's a lifeline hole! Thank you for your review! I just need to learn about the separate attachments better. Hugs!
Thank you for your review. I had invested quite a bit of time and money in getting KnitPro needles of all types, ie interchangeables, straight and DPNs until I decided to really give Magic loop a go to knit two at a time socks and boy oh boy what a pain they turned out to be so off I went and invested in a ChiaoGoo circular, especially after using a ChiaoGoo 9” as my normal choice for toe up socks, well what a difference. I was so impressed with the results that I have decided to lash out and invest in the mini & the complete ChiaoGoo set.
Excellent! I am knitting more and finding circular needles are reference a lot. I am also noticing that I am having to struggle with my tips, ugh. The other thing I have noticed is when a pattern calls for a 12” or smaller circular needle, I am restricted in bending to connect the cast on. My question to you is how much is the length of the needle (4” vs. 5”) makes a difference for you? Second question: Can you list al you have purchased with the ChiaoGoo? I’m sold on which to invest in and hands down it’s ChiaGoo. I’m treating myself to everything once - especially because knitting is my soothing balm. I don’t believe in piece meal buying. Thank you!
Yes, Chiaogoo has ss circulars that are not the “Red Lace”, at least in fixed. I know because I bought one by mistake. The tips have a bend and they’re not as sharp and tapered as the Red Lace. Great review. Thanks.
Thanks for a great thorough look at both sets. I have tried two spin cables, thinking the first one was defective, and both snagged yarn where the plastic meets the metal. Was it just my bad luck or have others had the same problem? I may just try the mini cables now for magic looping instead-just really wanted the added feature of the spin too. Oh well ☹️
Yeah, overall the Spin cable was not my favorite so I have not spent much time with it. I do feel like because they swivel they snagged a bit but mainly I was annoyed with the coiling of the cord. Let me know if you try the mini cables and how you like them.
I have become an avid knitter. I do have a set of Knitter's Pride in bamboo but have used them so much that for one, certain ones broke and I replaced these with metal one and on the needles I use most often, I have worn down the tips to where they are not very sharp at all and some have grooves in them. These bamboo tips of KP are about 4.25" long. So I have bought the 4" set. And I love them. Everyone has their own hand hold so 4" works for me. Perhaps if I want to do a project I'll try a 5" and try some of the nylon spin cables. Great review, you show be on salary from ChiaGoo or earn commission. But I have to agree ChiaGoo is a great product.
They are really great. I am not a fan of the spin cords, as I described in the vide-- for really thin cables I prefer the Chiaogoo mini cords with an adapter for larger needle sizes.
The ChiaoGoo Spin cords are especially good when you need a short cable, due to the swivels. They are very similar to Hiyahiya of blue cables.i use Chiaogoo mini cables for most knitting up to size US8. And I love that Chiaogoo also sells sizes US2.5(3mm), 10.75(6.5mm)10.875(7mm) in Twists and Spins, and their complete set cases have room to add them.
Very thorough review! I have a question. I have some fixed ChiaoGoo needles and the cord is SO thick and stiff that it feels like a rope. The 16 inch size 13 i have for hats I can’t even use because it is so stiff. These cables look different. I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Hopefully I can go to a local yarn shop and check them out. I am looking for a set for lace. I normally do not like sharp needles but they are necessary for lace for me anyway. Otherwise I prefer a blunter tip. I’m sick if my finger getting stabbed, lol. Thanks for a great review!
I just got a full set of the chiaogoo 4in tips. They are the best investment I've made. The cord is super soft, and the have no memory. They dont twist or stiffen up. They slide across the cable and the connector onto the needle perfectly. As for the sizes I prefer smaller tips, not sure about the 5in longer ones. I guess I've used clover so long my hands would crap fast. The smaller tips I've had no issues. Hope this helped
I actually bought 2 complete sets. I bought the 4 inch and the 5 inch and love them both. These cables are much different than the other ones I was referring to. I still have them but they are literally much thicker and like rope. I also love my Addi sets, one turbo and one rocket lace. I’m happy with all of them plus the gazillion others I have, lol!😊
@asmileisspecial There is definitely a difference in the ones I have. The cords are fantastic on the interchangeable sets. About a year ago I bought some fixed small size with 40 inch cords for making socks. Those fixed are great. Same cord. But some of my older fixed are very thick. The large sizes like 11 bd up fir some hats I was making. I don’t understand why. But I don’t need to use them so I don’t or I should say I haven’t since getting my interchangeable sets. I just bought a set of Knit Picks interchangeables for hat knitting. I haven’t used them yet. They were on sale so I couldn’t resist!😄
Yes. all CG cables are interchangeable. Also, you can buy the adapters to connect smaller cables to larger needles. Using a small-to-large adapter, you can use a small cable on a large needle.
I love chiaogoo needles as well. I only have 1 size, but have been ogling this set, before seeing this review. You are making me love them even more ❤ the cord is so forgiving, unlike other brands
Most of the sets cost around $250 in my country and the Chiaogoo set that I want is listed as $334, so it is a matter of relativity as to what is expensive, I like to have the grips as I have dry skin and need them to grip the needles.
I have the Chiaogoo small and the Hiya hiya large set. I like them both, but the Chiaogoo I love. Most of the knitting I do is on sizes 2-8 and the small Chiaogoo are my favorite.
@@handmaderiot2606 I am in Australia. It is cheaper from Ebay or Amazon but a lot of them won't deliver to Australia, and we always have to add on GST , which is 10%.
I got the 5" Mini set and all the 5" Small needles, plus pretty much one of each length cable and a few extras (adapters and end stoppers)... I've basically got a complete 5" Mini and 5" Small set and it ALL fits in the mesh pouch the Mini set comes in! My mind is kind of blown. I love these needles so much, I can't imagine ever needing to buy another set.
Hahaha.... just you wait. CG sets are so versatile, well-designed and beautiful it's tempting to not add to your collection. I also find myself picking up extra tips and cables when I find a good deal. Have you seen the red/blue shorties - they are definitely a job to use for socks. Plus can be modified to create flexible DPNs.
@Enig_Mata Lol I just bought the red shorties set! Such a bummer that there's no tip holder that'll hold the whole set + the open stock 1.5 and 1.75 mm tip sets though, they're so tiny that I'd really want a more secure way to store them than keeping them in a little baggie with the notions. I think I'm going to have to sew my own little holder, probably.
If you want the easiest way to knit fingers, thumbs, use mini cables with an adaptor and any small tips up to US8, Magic loop with Chiaogoo minis, easiest ever! The adaptors let u use any small tip on your mini cables.
This was the very best of any videos doing a review between hiya hiya and chiaogoo! Thank you so much! Iforgot to say that with the right combination of adapters you can use the red lace cables of CG with HH! l allways do and because the CG - etui is so much better l use it for both sets the same time! Same etui, same cables and same utilities for both. My set now after making it full with all the needle gauges l need (3,0mm, 7,0mm and 7,5mmand the little red CG shorties - Set inside of the bag at the one side of the etui) my etui is absolutely full but prepared all time! And: Now l've got a 2nd set: my hook set, Chiaogoo - T - spin - bamboo, reached me for a while! I put a 7. 0 mm and a 7.5 mm bamboo knitting - needle, put the wood into two peaces (square) and made the tip of another branding, here Knit Pro bamboo, (because their tips are great but teir connection horrible) and l glued the peaces with lime and helt it very strong together with a band so then l had , after some filing work for some minutes, 2 wonderful hook - needles in the gauge l needed more! :) handwork is fine if it helps me to get what l need if l can't buy it! I love that hooks, too and now l can knit/crochet tunesian style, too and/or can put a hook on one side and a needle on the other depending what l wanna knit/crochet at that time, using allways and ever with HH and CG needles and hooks, the same cables! There are are so many possibilities more than bevore! You should give it a try, really! Be blessed!
Thank you for the review. This is the best I saw on YT. I also love the Chiaogooneedles and the Hiyahiya are for me on the second place. Also because of the not so smooth join as the chiaogoos. Now I am thinking about the Miniset, but I don‘t know if it is worth for me because usually I knit socks with 2,5mm magicloop and rarely in finer gages.
Thank you for your very nice feedback! The minis are great, but I do find that I mostly just use the size 0 for my socks and sometimes I use to cables with the adaptor and larger needles. You could opt for just one pair of 2.5mm tips and one cord for magic looping socks.
I finally bought Chiago Goo Twist Red Lace Needle 5" Tip Set, Small, free shipping $120.46. I'll let you know when they come .... Thanks again for your review.
All of the needle sets are very expensive in Australia, especially after currency conversion, freight and GST. Therefore, one needs to choose wisely. I agree, after using 3 other brands, I am sold on Chiaogoo needles and especially the no kink cables. I have the minis and the complete red twist set. Not sorry at all, and so now getting the blue set of shorties so that I can manage circular knitting for sleeves and baby beanies.
I know things are more expensive in Australia, but you should check out Fiberific. They are based in Australia and the owner has a YT channel. She's awesome.
Handmade Riot can I just ask..... Are these needles mainly for socks ? I am a beginner and mainly want to start with scarves and hats. Then if my skill and interest increases then I can broaden my skill set.
Wow that’s a horrible case for HH. I just purchased (2021) a 5in HiyaHiya sharp set and the case is much better. It has individual slots for all the needles and extra slots for additional needles. I love mine. The HiyaHiya seem to be smoother. Their cable spins at the base to avoid cable tangling. Very convenient. My cables don’t do what yours did. I do not have to boil them at all. Tried ChiaoGoo, but I didn’t like the way they felt in my hand.
That's awesome! I've seen them priced at $85 at the yarn/fiber festivals that I've been to and that is what my local yarn store charges-- 50% markup, which is typically for LYS and Chiaogoo.
I've watched and commented on your video before and I am about to order a set but so confused about the 4" & 5" what is more preferred or used most? God I have no idea which one to choose. What would be best in your opinion?
Hi! I hope that this reply does not reach you too late. I would say it depends on how you knit. I am a continental picker, that is I hold the yarn in my left hand and do not let go of the yarn as I pick it with my needle. Because my left index finger is suspended the entire time I need the extra needle length in order to hold onto my needles without my hands cramping. I have heard from English style knitters, that is knitters that manipulate the working yarn with their right hand, shorter needles work well especially if they let go of the yarn each time they manipulate the right needle. Personally I do not see a disadvantage to 5" tips but I am also highly biased in this regard. I hope that this helps! Let me know which ones you get and how you like them! Best wishes!
Elizabeth Brignoni i have both and relatively large hands i am 5ft 6in tall. I much prefer knitting with the 5inch. And on the rare occasion you may need a ‘ just buy those tips. Buying parts separately is pretty inexpensive. If you have tiny hands perhaps 4’ may fit you better. If you are not sure just buy 1 small 30’ twist cable and two tips 4” and5” of the same US 2-8 SIZE.
@@handmaderiot2606 the main thing to remember is if you knit hats the 4 in is better as you can make 16 in needles with all sizes where the 5 in you cannot. So hats, yokes on sweaters, etc is best with the 4 in. If you want one set 4 in is still great because you can do 16 in cables and up.
Very thorough review, thank you! I love the Chiao Goo and will be saving up for that set. Do you have any experience with Knit Picks? A friend is gifting me a set.
Hi! I am glad that you found the review useful. I do not have any experience with Knit Picks needles (love their Wool of the Andes yarn, though), but I have held some of my friends' KP needles, most of which were wooden. They seem like good needles overall. If you are receiving them for free no need to pass up perfectly good needles! And if you want to save up for something that checks all the boxes in the meantime, ChiaoGoo is definitely the way to go! Let me know how you like either the KP and/or the CG.
@@handmaderiot2606 I have been using the KP or they may actually be Dreamz. They are pretty darn great. I prefer the ones with the metal tips, but the set I have are mostly all wood. They are great and I am super happy to have them.

Great job! You are making me want to go get the ChiaGoo 5" set for my birthday!!! Great detailed review of the things that matter. You have a very thorough review and it is appreciated. I think the price may have gone up - perhaps because of tariffs imposed against China?
I would not want to lose any expensive needles I would expect the case and the cables to function as I paid for quality Simply a hypothetical thought...
ChiaoGoo are best needles ever- I have all the sets. I also have HIyaHiya and don't like them nearly as much. My HH came in a small red case and it does the exact same thing- needles falling everywhere Also, they are too sharp and hurt my fingers. On a another note, I bought a few Signature Needle Art needles which are about $40 a piece (!!)and while those are the smoothest needles ever, they are so sharp that they literally made my fingers bleed and the cords were not nearly as nice as the ChiaoGoo. Chiao Goo with the red lace cords are simply the best.
This review only tells you how the needles look like .......I can see that on pictures. I want to know how the needle behave when knitting with them . How the connection feel when the yarn is passed over. Do the connection hold? Other things that someone might notice when knitting with the needles.
Several points. First off, if you use some of the further back rows in the HiyaHiya case instead of the very first row, it looks like the tips probably wouldn't fall out. As for the curled up blue HiyaHiya cable, of course it's going to curl slightly - you wound it around and around in a circle. However, you did not unwind the cable to show how easily it straightened out, which would have been a more fair thing to do, because the cables don't stay curled up permanently, and you definitely don't need to put them in hot water, they are a very flexible cable. The swivel feature of the HiyaHiya cable is one of the best features , and unfortunately, I don't think any other brand makes swivel cables. As for the rubber grips that HiyaHiya has included from the beginning is actually very useful, not superfluous, as I have tried the Key/Pin in both HiyaHiya and ChiaoGoo needles and I definitely need the rubber grips. I would continue but the video is way too long to finish watching and your observations/comments have not been well thought out and were not helpful.

@@ConnyNordlicht so maybe I should buy chiaogoo, the choice is very difficult because I don't want to buy two sets
Hugs!
I love the straight needle option to make dishcloths and really small items. It's nice not to be confined to a cable all the time :)
I have the chiaogoo too and love them. I have tried addi, knitters pride and knitpicks.
Several really useful tips! Thank you!!
Super review! Couldn't ask for anything better!
THANK YOU! Excellent info. Finally, I can make my choice!
Thank you!
j'aimerais savoir combien coûte toute le kit complet svp en argent canadien svp merci
Another question: Is there a difference between ChiaoGoo Twisted Red Lace and ChiaoGoo Red Lace?
Linda I. Brown I think the difference is fixed vs. interchangeable.
I may have missed this in your review but the Chiaogoo cords are awesome, especially the red cable...the spin cord not so much.
Yes it does. Many thanks Tina!!
@@theastewart6721 this is so helpful as I too find the fixed Chiaogoo needle cables too stiff and thick.
They were on sale so I couldn’t resist!😄
so the bamboo cables can be used on the steel needles? Are the cables interchange with other Chigoos sets??
Yes. all CG cables are interchangeable.
Same!
This is true-- cost is relative for sure. Where are you located? Is this cost from a local retailer?

Be blessed!
What an awesome review! I subscribed. Thanks so much for sharing!!
how do you get the pattern for free
Very nice review.very informative Thank you
Thank you for the review.
Thankyou, this was really helpful!🙏🤗
All of the needle sets are very expensive in Australia, especially after currency conversion, freight and GST. Therefore, one needs to choose wisely. I agree, after using 3 other brands, I am sold on Chiaogoo needles and especially the no kink cables. I have the minis and the complete red twist set. Not sorry at all, and so now getting the blue set of shorties so that I can manage circular knitting for sleeves and baby beanies.
I know things are more expensive in Australia, but you should check out Fiberific. They are based in Australia and the owner has a YT channel. She's awesome.
What an EXCELLENT & Honest review. Thank you for taking the time. X
Thank you for watching and for your kind comment!
Handmade Riot can I just ask..... Are these needles mainly for socks ? I am a beginner and mainly want to start with scarves and hats. Then if my skill and interest increases then I can broaden my skill set.
Thanks for your review.
Wonderful review!!!
Your mini set cost $85? I got mine for $54.
Catherine Somerville thanks for that explanation. I am gonna go with the 5” based on your comments.
I want them all! 😂
Story of my life!
Good review helped a lot. Thank you
Very thorough! Thank you!
Awesome❗clearly explained and illustrated. Thanks for sharing🌹 What size do you use, 5" or 4" tips,? I'm planning to buy the Chiaogoo metallic interchangeable needle, 5" tips.. Thanks again and take care of yourself 🌹🌹🌹
Always 5” tips! Hope that you are loving yours!
Chiao Goo cable lengths are the cable only length.
Great job! You are making me want to go get the ChiaGoo 5" set for my birthday!!! Great detailed review of the things that matter. You have a very thorough review and it is appreciated. I think the price may have gone up - perhaps because of tariffs imposed against China?
Excellent video thank you
The bamboo ones do not have a smooth transition from cable to needle. I’m so disappointed.
I would not want to lose any expensive needles I would expect the case and the cables to function as I paid for quality Simply a hypothetical thought...
Thank you!❤
I agree with everything u say about the Hiya hiyas. I’m disappointed with them, and they are expensive.
The used to tighten the cables is great to use for lifelines in lace knitting.
Thank you!
This review only tells you how the needles look like .......I can see that on pictures. I want to know how the needle behave when knitting with them . How the connection feel when the yarn is passed over. Do the connection hold? Other things that someone might notice when knitting with the needles.
0:01
They are fragile with rough handling type of knitters- no heavy weight etc
That is one crappy case
