  • Welcome to Knit to Fit!
This is a series of weekly videos about all the knitting topics, mostly :). Ask questions and I will answer! It does not have to be all about knitting.
This is episode #2 where I talk about all the knitting needles I have, and have ever used. I compare them, review them and rate them based on my preferences and likes.
I am wearing: Nubia sweater - a dropped shoulder boxy sweater (this was the original one and the prototype to the published pattern): www.ravelry.co...
    Knitting needles mentioned and reviewed:

    Chiaogoo (metal)
    Addi Rockets (metal)
Addi Squared/Novel (Addi red cables do not have a slit for the lifeline) - (metal)
    Lykke (wooden, copper ones mentioned)
    Indian Lake Artisans (wooden)
    Fabulous yarn (wooden)
    Lantern Moon (wooden)
    DellaQ (plastic)
Signature needles (metal - fixed and Interchangeable)

Thank you for your reviews. I came back to tell you and others doing research that I tried bamboo and Lantern Moon before trying Lykke needles and am so glad I bought the Lykke. I’m a new knitter so I knew I would like a wood set and I want to knit hats so I purchased the shorter tip set and they are really helping me knit. There is no frustration with the way the yarn glides or the tips. I was a little concerned about the plastic section where the cord attaches but it has a metal piece on the inside so I don’t have to worry about the plastic splitting if I over tighten the cord. That won’t happen since it is metal in the inside. The yarn moves really nicely over the needle as I scootch the yarn up to the working tip.

Hi Lena! Thank you for your in-depth review of the knitting needles, I enjoyed listening to you talk about the different needles very much. I love the ChiaoGoo needles myself and use them the most. When I started knitting a few years ago I bought the KnitPro 'Zing' needles, and I sometimes still use them, but find the cable to be a bit stiff now that I am used to the ChiaoGoo red cable, which I love. I also watched your video review of different cases for knitting needles, and I loved that too. So informative and calming to listen too. I'm a subscriber now! Love from Sweden ❤

Lena, I am enjoying your videos very much. Please keep experimenting, learning, and sharing. I am learning a lot from you. The more you experiment and show how you work things you don’t like. You are giving me the courage to try and experiment and to find a solution to the problems I find in my knitwear, I can’t thank you enough.
I have issues trying to stay organized with double pointed needles. However, Flexi-Flips rock and I do like them, especially with the extra long cord in-between the needle tips. I can do sleeves or collars with them, typically I don’t because I prefer working sleeves and socks two at a time using magic loop. “Second syndrome sucks!😢 So, I got very good with magic loop and I enjoy it now. Flexi-Flips are helpful at times I really enjoy having both tips on them its like having two sets. So while they are expensive I chalk it up to having the best tool for the task.
Geez and I thought I had a lot of needle sets, omg, Lena; thats a lot of needle sets. I doin’t feel guilty anymore 😅😮😊😂. I’m thinking I should show my husband who probably thinks I have major FOMO, lol. I don’t but the quest to find the perfect tools is a real thing!!!
My husband he is a master radio control guy. In his real career he designs a lot of aeronautical systems that the various militaries need for their equipment to function properly to combat other countries systems. Over 40 years experience building the real world systems that protect countries from whomever. knowledge I may only use them for one thing but that one thing is best accomplished with the correct tool. Finding that one tool is critical for the task at hand. So at least he gets the need for specific tools to accomplish certain things that you want and you can not get other tools to do the task. I will pay more for the products that makes getting the results I need.

I just discovered your podcast a few weeks ago, when I was looking for reviews on Chiaogoo Forte needles (which I had pre-ordered) and appreciate the detail that you go into with your reviews. I love my fortes and have no issue with the swiv 360s coming undone, but I can’t stand that they snag all yarns on the smaller needles! I wind up using the older red cords for the smaller needles. I also love my Lykke Cypra copper needles. I find that they have extremely smooth joins and they feel great in my hands. They are heavier than other needles, which I enjoy - they feel rather luxe ! I look forward to your future videos!🌞

I completely agree that swiv360 snag !!! I use red twist cables with my forte needles and enjoy them a lot. I really like my Cypra too. I am also in live with Gold Tip needles but you might not like these because they are light. They are similar to signature needle arts. But with much much better cables.

I have a lot of the same sets. My favorite wooden set at the moment is my forte set, but like you, I'm not in love with the swivel cable. I think I will try the red cable on them. I love the forte case! My favorite metal needles are knitters pride mindful things. I love the join, and I love the very sharp point and very long taper. The price point is good too, and I recommend giving them a try if you haven't. The cables are nice too, and the set has both swivel and fixed, and the join is good on both. I did have one needed in set that wouldn't thread, and they replaced it. Love Chiaogoo too, but I've been preferring the mindful things. I love that sweater and the colors. It's on my list to do.

I have no luck with knitters pride😂. I had mindful set and i gave it away. The joins on my needles were either not aligning or it was hard to screw the needle into the cable. So I gave up on Knitters pride. My absolute favorite is Gold Tip needles! I just with they had 4” needle tips. I am so glad knitters pride worked for you. They are good needles at a great price. ❤️❤️❤️

Gorgeous sweater! Lykke 5" is my ride or die. I have several sets 😬. Indigo was my first set and it was instant love. then I got the driftwood because the needle I needed was always in use despite having it in other brands i wanted the lykke ,🤣 I have the shorties that I don't actually use much... but i may try your suggestion and use them on neck bands....i also have Both small and large dpn sets that get alot of use because I prefer dpns to magic loop. This year, My husband surprised me with the pink blush 5" and blush sock dpns for my birthday and they are even smoother and silkier than the other 2 sets. did i need them? No ,but they feel different than the others in good way and I love them also. I also have the complete 5" chiagoo set with the 5" sock mini add on. i also love and use these. Sometimes you want a metal needle especially if i have to do magic loop (judys magic cast on). And the cords the best! So they would be my second favorite. I'm also not a knitters pride fan. I just don't like the join and less attention to detail. But I was drawn in by the new lantern moon cables which are similar but with more drape to the chiagoo red cables that I love so much, and they fit the lykke 😁. Even though lantern moon are now sold by knitters pride, I may need to try a couple pair to see how they perform. I do not like addi at all... not any of the styles. the cable the needle nothing about them gives me a pleasant knitting experience or rhythm. But my mom swearsby them. I tried the signature needles years ago but they were so heavy. I have an old set of kollage squares. I rarely use them anymore since I've found my favorites, but the personalized needle of the month club was a fun Christmas gift from my husband that year🥰. I love to knit, I've been knitting over 40 years. I'm always knitting, so I've tried alot of needles and cables over the years. But these 2 are what function the best for me. 😎 do I need more? No. Will I continue to try new things? Yes. Because you never know what you might fall in love with. I don't have a large yarn stash because I knit it all. But I readily admit to an excess of needles 😎

But they are smooth and the novel ones are so comfy. But not sharp enough. Easy to connect. Ok, sometimes not easy to connect.

    • @purLZknitting
      @purLZknitting  Год назад

      Hello!
Yes I have tried and owned a few different set of KnitPro. I do not have any of KnitPro anymore. The cables are not comparable to Chiaogoo or Gold Tip needles, or new Lantern moon. And I didnt quite like them. The joins on the needles are the worst in the industry. They are very inconsistent. You might be able to easily screw them on or it will become a challenge, or you wont be able to connect the cable to the needle. Its not consistent. And I prefer a true and tried workhouse needle set that works every time. My top choices are Gold Tip needles, Chiaogoo, Hyah Hyah, Addi, Lykke when used with Lantern moon new cables.
I plan to record an updated video showing new needles and comparing them all again.

They look ordinary but are lovely to work with. The plastic HiyaHiya cables are plastic but I have no trouble knitting the magic loop. They don't kink. The lantern moon cables are fine but the swivel cords slip in and out at the join. Not completely out but there is give in the space--not the HiyaHiya swivels. The cables themselves are amazing but the join is awful and gets caught on yarn a lot. Extremely annoying! Gold tip needles and joins are superior to any other needles I know. I wish cables were a tad more flexible though. They are like chiaogoo red twist. And I wish I didnt have to break them in. Hello!
If you are talking about the ChiaoGoo sock set with red twist cables than I would suggest just using regular red twist cables. The sock set cables might be too thin to use with these needles. Currently eyeing the Lykke wood set and I'm glad you find them good! I'm just a college student so I consider this pretty expensive & is a splurge.
But at the same time i think it's an investment, rather than buying subpar single needles one by one. Do you think it's wise for me to splurge on them? Considering I'm a very beginner knitter, still unsure if I'll stick with knitting for the long run (though so far I don't plan on stopping :D)

Hello! Thank you so much fir reaching out!
What I will say to you is if you are not sure if you will knit with passion in the future than getting a set will not be a wise decision. And if you know the size of needle you need for a project you might want to get just a single one in that size. However… you might want to consider investing in a set because the quality of Lykke is amazing and they come in a beautiful case, and you get most sizes of needles and cords. Its good to have variety. And to get the gauge 😬 you might need a few needle sizes!!! Etsy will have better prices in sets or singles.
You might want to stop by your local yarn shop, see if they carry Lykke and try to knit with their sample needles. You will know what is right for you then. A set or a single❤️❤️❤️
      Thank you for reaching out!

I was looking at the zen needles from Fabulous Yarn and thought they were beautiful - it's a shame about the join and your video will help many others considering that set.
My issue with Lykke needles are the cables, but I'm glad they now have memory-free cables similar to Chiaogoo.
Have you seen the latest needles from Chiaogoo, the Forté set? They are beautiful, but expensive due to the wood being used.

I knit a Lot! And switch between needles and try new ones all the time! Its a curse!🤣.
As far as Lykke cables go, try new swivel cables from Lantern moon. They fit Lykke perfectly! They come 2 in a set with stoppers and an amazing tightening tool. I use that tool in my chiaogoo set!
Forte!!!! Aaahhh! Sold out and or waiting list on web sites. And steep price! But did you see that case, organizations, new tape measure, new and much better stitch markers!!!! And needles!! My dream set!!!
And its coming to me!!! I will be the lucky owner if forte!!!!! I got it at a better price. Where and how! Farmer’s daughter fibers has an amazing points program! I has $75 in points there and I think I got the very last set. I cant believe that i got it! I will believe it when i get shipment tracking. Or will hold it in my hands.
And review of that perfection is coming……. Give me a week to play with them and I will record a detailed review.

@@purLZknitting Thanks for much for your tips on the Lykke cables. I got the mindful collection cables to use on mine, but of course they are green. Still, not worries.
For so long, I was considering the Forte and even said I'll give it a pass, but what a beautiful set and I agree with you on the case. They went all out and thought through so much of what we will need in the perfect premium set. Granted it's pricey, I hope to get a lot of use out of them.
That's awesome you were able to get the set and I definitely look forward to your review. You have a vast collection of needles from Lykke to the premium Signature series and I can't wait to hear what you think of them. The cables were released earlier and I found they tend to snag on smaller gauge knitting or if I knit too tightly. I'll definitely have to check out Farmer's Daughter - for as much as I buy, a loyalty program is a great idea.
Your case from Gracie's looks great. I have so many spare needles and cables, I need an organizer for them all.
I hope you love your needles - they are really a hot item this year. Haha... who would think the knitting community has their equivalent of a Birkin. Can't wait for your video.

Not meaning to spam your video but I forgot to mention another reason I love Chiagoo needles is they have a lifetime gaurentee. If your needles break, chip or become defective, email Chiagoo customer service with a descrption of and an uploaded photo of the breakage/defect and they will replace the needle with a FREE replacement pair in about a weeks time (here in the USA). I can attest to this because it has happened to me several times and they've replaced every one of them! Many knitters do not know this, and I was told this by a friend who unfortunately had bad luck with their bamboo needles.

Thank you! I know of seeknit but I dont own a set. They are very close to Chiaogoo bamboo needles. But i think the join on Chiagoo is slightly better. Well, it is actually a user preference. If you like thinner join and smoother transition from the needle to the cable then Chiaogoo would be the right needles for you. And I believe the tip of Chiaogoo bamboo needles is slightly more pointy. And that would be my preference. That is why I fell in love with gold tip needles. They are most unique needles. I will do another review (a follow up) to this video with a few new sets I have worked with lately. 😬

I have the Lykke copper. I quite like the needles, and the feel. They feel a little grabbier than most metal needles (so I like them say if I knit with a yarn that has silk or cashmere in it). I'm not reallya fan of wooden needles (i.e chiaogoo bamboo) but wanted a bit more grip sometimes. However, the swivel chords are just NOT working for me. I find they snag with many yarns and they are not memory free. Would you know of there are any other cables I could use with them? Id love to knit with them more, but the join between the cable and the swivel part always makes me switch back to Chiaogoos.

Lantern Moon new swivel cables that resemble ChiaoGoo red cables are good and fit Lykke. But… there is this snagging issue! Arrhhhhh!!!!!! I have yet to find one swivel cable that will not do that!!!
I find Lykke pink set has waaay better cables than other sets, even the copper ones, but they are wooden. That is if you get a set. But you can always just get a single cable separately and try it out with your Cypra. Pink Lykke cables seem to be much better than any other ones.
