I enjoyed every second of that as much as you so clearly did 🤗 Always loved Rory (and Taste) and often get lost in his brilliance, both listening to albums and watching YT videos. He lived for performing live and it shows. Such a huge loss. Thank you for this, Alan - hope all is good with you ✌️

Rory was just a genius he had the ability to make the guitar literally sing.
It was almost as though he was duetting with the guitar.
Never heard of him until seeing a doc on Irish music that would pop up every year on St. Patrick’s Day from VH1 about 20 years ago; I think they quoted Bono as saying Rory was his favorite guitarist. Incredible guy!! I think people may be put off by the old keyboard sound but “A Million Miles Away” is my favorite of his songs. Love his cover of Tony Joe White’s “As the Crow Flies”.

This is a great song full of passion and feeling. There was a line of thinking back then that when the song was released that it was related to the break up of Taste. For The Last time was included in his first album release after Taste. The Taste split was acrimonious and it took many many years for the wounds to heal and for Rory to regain control of the Taste music.
Alan - I hear your sentiment of wanting a libation and chat when you listen to Rory! In the States, even in NY hard to find someone who knows, so I just try to gently preach the gospel of Ruairi when I'm in an appropriate moment or setting🎸🇮🇪 Thank you for this clip & these insights!
For me Rory is on a very short list of truly great guitar players, and always seemed to be a lovely man, modest and down to earth. Sad loss at such a young age.
Yeah, you gotta love RORY! I just picked up the new DELUXE 6-CD Reissue of his first, eponymous album. Magnificent! The Deluxe Edition of his 2nd record comes out in the fall, and you can bet that's an artifact I MUST own! 🤩 Thanks for giving Mr. Gallagher his much-deserved airplay, Alan! Great one!
