I love my benchmade, I love it even more when I remember I didn't have to pay for it bc my cheating ex girlfriend was constantly 1) riddled with guilt and 2) fucking loaded long story short the edge on my 551 held longer than our relationship, HEYOOOOOO
Great review, entertaining as always. Nice to see someone really using (abusing?) their knife. Even though clones are so cheap, and i have a few, there's always a sense of disappointment when i use them over the real deal.
+Michael Demers I cut the video way down too. I really beat the crap out of the knife with the ferro rod- which is part of the reason for the blister. I like the knife a lot... It's durable, smooth lock, durable steel- just with that handle was a bit more comfortable. If everything goes right I should be doing a review of the 940-2 in a few weeks. Can't wait to try that one out.
I feel you on preferring G10 to plastic, FRN etc. I particularly like the layered & shaped G10. I have a knife w/ a polished layered G10 & it has a really nice look & feel.
+Knives Before Wives Smith thanks dude! If anything I try to be relatable. I don't know if it's a good fit for knife videos where the tactical bros hang out- but I guess I don't care that much.
i prefer the benchmade 551, its probably the best designed folder going right now, i was a spyderco fan while back but i grew out of the old world lock back designs
+TheDallasdeadeye that's fair. The Benchmades axis is pretty fun for blade deployment... Although i really prefer the handle of the endura... The the lock back isn't really a deal breaker for me. It's nice and solid and reliable on mine.
I always love your videos. Don't change that sarcastic sense of humour, it rocks! Did I just show everyone I am an old fart by saying "it rocks"? Anyway, I finally got a Ganzo with the pocket shredding version of the scales, never again. Every model that has that scale option also has a flat G10 scale option so I will stick to that. Anyhow, great video, and I do mean great. (Is that enough "greats" for your ego?, if not I can add more...)
Ah man, I don't have en ego! I prefer scales that aren't raised, but still have texture. Like my Endura. I don't really like the FRN handle on this one.
I only own 3 knives that cost more than $35, but I have almost 200 knives, so as you can guess I have a lot of Ganzo's and Enlan's and Sanrenmu knives, but I only have one Ganzo that has the high traction G10 that you have on your G739 and after 10 seconds with it I made up my mind to never buy another with that treatment to the scales again. I have nothing against expensive knives, other than the fact that I live off a disability pension and I would rather have 5 or 6 knives instead of one.
I have a Grip & a mini-Grip. Reasonable knives for the price but they didn't stay in my EDC rotation very long. Lost some confidence in the axis lock once I got a TriAd Cold Steel
Thanks bro. I just ordered another $100 knife so while I wait for it I'm trying to justify the purchase by watching a bunch of videos of people saying how nice it is and talk about things like "jimping" and shit. This one did the trick and made me chuckle to. The other 10 knives I have all work perfectly fine for knifey things but maybe I need a Microtech next or some other super expensive fidget spinner substitute.
Spyderco is coming out with a new budget model that looks promising. The Reinhold Rhino is a smallish folder with a decent steel, CTS BD1, 3D-molded G-10 scales, full steel liners and a compression lock, all for under $50.
Yeah... they have quite a few nice ones coming out. The ones I want, I can't afford though. This seems a reasonable choice, maybe go with something I can get? Don't have anything with CTS BD1 yet.
I carry a Benchmade more often than a Ganzo for all the reasons you stated. I believe Benchmade is my favorite folding knife company. That said I've used my Ganzo G710 pretty hard. I used it just yesterday to cut the (plastic) bumper off of a car after an accident. (Not mine) In less than a minute with the DC4 stone it was back to popping hair. Still, I want the Benchmade it was copied from.
For sure... you just got to sharpen it a bit more. This is my first Benchmade, I'm sure of many more. I guess I need to head over to knifeswap on reddit if I want to find some good used prices. Someone told me I missed out on this model for $65
Very nice and informative review in addition it was refreshing to see someone do a review of knives that they actually paid for unlike many reviewers that prostitute themselves to knife companies like Schrade to receive free merchandise to say nice things about their Chinese crap Imports. It's stuff like that that questions both the Integrity of the company and the reviewer while us hard working slobs are out there being suckered into spending our hard-earned money.
I buy about half or more of the blades I review. I price myself on being honest about the stuff I get, whether or not I get it free. And just to expand on that a bit. I work with a lot of different retailers and manufacturers, in addition to buying a lot of my own gear. My subscribers are the foundation of my channel... and if I'm not honest with them, they won't watch my videos. Not everybody will be happy with everything I review... but I think I give viewers enough information to make good decisions by watching my stuff. And while some people think that somehow it's a lucrative endeavor to spend 5-6 hours working on a review for a knife that costs $15- umm... it's not worth it. In fact if I'm being honest... vary rarely is anything worth the amount of time I spend on reviews. I do it because I like making videos, and I like it when people like them. I've spent 10 hours on products that cost less then $10 new.
I might be reviewing the new 940-2 very soon. honestly i wasnt into budget folders either until someone sent me one for review. Their cheap and fun. I would really like access to better knives for my channel, but most big knife companies have preferred reviewers with higher subscriber counts. When i buy a nicer blade I review it, but up until recently i havent had a good hook-up. My channel currently doesn't give me enough revenue to buy nice shit.
to me will be very interesting to see your review of cold steel mini recon 1. I mean your detail review and your vision about this model? thanks for all knives reviews.
Cool videos. I like your unique commentary style. And yeah, Benchmade is a little too proud of their knives most of the time. The price on the new model Grip is obnoxious. I stick with Spyderco mostly. I feel I get more for my money with them. Example: Standard Griptillian vs PM2. Similar size and price range, both American made, both have cool locks. PM2 uses nicer materials. The new Grip closes the gap, but costs too much.
+Matthew Boe yeah man... Don't get me wrong- it's a nice blade. But there's zero justification for the price increase versus the materials. I too would buy a Spyderco. See their new models yet?
It takes me a long time to pull the trigger on a $100 knife purchase, but I have no problem clicking the buy button for a good quality knife that costs less than $20. Consequently, my Ganzo, or similar Chinese brand knife, to Benchmade, or similar American brand knife, is probably 5:1. I can't say I've ever been disappointed with any of my $20 Ganzos, but that's not the case with some of my expensive mainstream brand knives.
+Ronnie Durbin I can't say ive ever hated a ganzo knife... I've been slightly disappointed before- but never hated. I've been slightly disappointed at my lil lionspy... Mostly because I paid so much... And there's one or two things I don't love about it. So I think you're right mostly. I'll still continue to buy both.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro i think i want the most resistent. So 551h20 Will be!!! I wish the person Who answer this cuestiones are trully you. Advanced knife pro... youAre awesome.
I think you have hit the nail on the head. Ganzo knives are simply better than the knives they copy. Ganzo uses G10 instead of crap plastic that Benchmade uses (GFN Glass Reinforced Nylon...AKA plastic), an axis lock that is slightly stronger/stiffer than the Benchmade axis lock, Ganzo also is made with with full steel liners for added strength, and last but not least costs 5x less!!!!! This amazingly enough is after shipping the knife to the opposite side of the world! Ganzo is quickly becoming my favorite knife company. Benchmade and Spyderco offshored all of their production to undercut the American worker/family so that the CEO's/shareholders could become richer. A big thank you to them for destroying the American made knife industry! No way the cat is going back in the bag now. China is starting to make more improved versions for less. 2017 lineup looks great. Come on super steels! Capitalism at it's finest, Ooh Rah!
Yes I agree that 440C is really a great steel and Benchmade also used 440 C steel in their first versions of the Griptillian, and Great Eastern Cutlery still uses 440 C in their premium traditional pocket knifes...so it is proven and good. That being said, I do like playing around with 154 cm, CTS-XHP...etc. What Benchmade needs to do is teach Ganzo workers the secret formula for creating super steel and then we will be able to order directly from Ganzo instead of going through the middle men Benchmade/Spyderco. I anticipate "Super Steels" hopefully in the near future for much cheaper then what they costs now. I just received my $19 (with shipping!) Ganzo Firebird Griptilian with CARBON FIBER scales, full steel milled out liners, perfect axis lock, perfect blade centering, razor sharp knife from the mail today. 10 out of 10 and since I saved approximately $100 easily, I will buy 3-4 more Ganzo's! Just Awesome! I will put up a detailed review soon - Hsiftak
katfish365247 Um, not quite. Benchmade did have a class of knives that were made offshore, but they discontinued it. The Blue Class knives are USA made. Also, 440 steel from Ganzo needs to be re-sharpened frequently if you breakdown a lot of boxes as I do. I do have and carry a couple of Ganzo knives, but they are no match for a Benchmade in 154cm or S30V in terms of edge holding. PS: I have a Spyderco Manix 2 that was made in USA.
Dude, you are talking out your ass right now. Spyderco has plants in Golden, Colorado, Taichung Taiwan, Seki City Japan, Italy. Benchmade has their only plant in Oregon. Yes Spyderco has a Chinese line but so the fuck what. Pm2, Pm3, Manix2 etc.. All made here. All Benchmades are made here. But you go ahead and keep supporting the Chinese communist regime and it’s abuse of its citizens, treating them like slaves, stealing designs from American ingenuity and talent. All because you’re a cheap skate.
I'm assuming you've already heard of the new -1 Griptilians in the 20CV steel. Assuming you're going to be financially responsible and not buy them, what's your opinion on them?
Yeah I have. I am holding onto my money for now... except when I might be tempted in the future to buy one for a review- as to not get any of the clicks.
Ok... so when you posted this yesterday- I did some digging. It seems I may have been incorrect. There's a lot of misinformation on the web, and when I looked at the grind and found a few places that mentioned it's a hollow... it looks like a hollow with barely perceptible concave sides. But the more I looked at it last night, and I looked on the web. You're right it looks more like a flat saber grind- and not a full flat grind like on the Endura 4. I'll add an annotation to the video. Thanks for pointing out my error. I don't like to continue the propagation of bad information.
+40belowful I'm trying to get some more. I've got a few budget things coming up in the near future... But id love to get a new Spyderco for sure. They just put out some new models.
I would agree... based upon looks alone. I might try one in the future- however buying a second one right now, when so many new knives are coming out may not be the best idea. I wish I was made of money.
AWESOME ... FINALLY some1 that gives an HONEST review.. guess i hurt the "CANADIAN KNIFE EXPERT GUY" and "THE PORTLY GENTLEMAN"s channel talking about this same subject.. nice to see some1 tell the truth.. Ganzo isnt TRASH , but if u COMPARE it to WHATEVER its TRYING to COPY there is NO COMPARISON.. 🇺🇸
+OVERPROTECTIVEFATHER.45ACP I like both, but the blade steel and lock smoothness difference is undeniable. They're not deal breakers but they're things to consider.
Is it bad to flick open the benchmade? I got one and I would flick it open repeatedly just for fun and I thought it felt like the lock was wearing out. Am I just breaking it in or am I wearing away the lock?
Your videos are hilarious, just my smart ass perverted, no filter kind of personality. I’ve been caught up between an Endura 4 and the 551. I don’t need another knife and my wife will be pissed but that’s life. I have a pm2, Manix 2, and 940-2 and made the mistake of watching RUclips. Just found an orange 551 for $75 on new graham.
+Johnny Sotelo I've bought plenty of things from them before... But you need to used the upgraded tracked shipping for an extra $2 ish. I've had a few cheap things not show up from them too but they refunded my money. Check out fasttech because they're better and carry a lot of the same stuff. I dunno the last few knives I've bought from gear best have shown up
+Advanced Knife Bro alright brother thanks! I just didn't wanna go ahead and buy the cima one and a handful of ganzo blades but I just done trust a site that sells everything from unlocked phones to hammocks it just doesn't click for me thanks for the response I'll definitely check out fasttech!
Lots of the china bases sites, have a mixture of random shit. A lot of them also sell sex toys, which is freaking weird. The three sites I normally order from overseas are: Fasttech, Banggood, and Gear Best. Gear Best has the worst track record for me... but if stuff doesn't show up you can get a store credit or really pester them and they'll refund your paypal. Gear Best often times has the best price on knives... so I wind up taking a chance more often than I should. Good luck man... there's tons of great cheap knives out there.
Well it's well made has good steel doesn't feel quite right with the belt clip it's an oversized feather weight knife feels sturdier than it is kept feeling like the handle could stand to be half an inch longer I'd call it worth it however it's a hunting pack knife not an edc the bugout might be the edc knife but I'll find that out later this year
I love how you bring up another knife that you enjoy instead of setting it beside 7 other knives we don't own (and would never want to own). that shit irritates me.
I prefer the Spyderco - inspired Ganzos to the Benchmade-like Ganzos. Bought my brother a Griptilian a couple of decades ago because he was a committed Benchmade person. Ouch! It was costly! Me, give me a Ganzo that isn't inspired by Benchmade. Never was a fan of that knife line.
You must work for Benchmade then. You obviously know what it takes to manufacture this knife. Of course the Chinese rip-off is cheaper. They’re treated as slaves over there. Whiners like you crack me up. You probably complain about the cost of a Sebenza 31 as well.
You seem like a road scholar that has all the Tee shirts life gives out upon completion of the strings attached segments... Thats why I fight back with an insulting degradation of humor. If im the only one laughing, all the better. The last one one upping, is the self declared winner. I'll get both of these knifes. Great gift ideas that will make me 10 percent cooler than I already am. I just cut myself, gotta go!! Tman!.........
Benchmade has a sort of high entry price for their knives. They actually protect their price point at retailers... so smaller retailers and larger ones have less price variance than say a Spyderco.
I considered the PM2 over 551-1 that I purchased from benchmade but I heard Spyderco and have witnessed from other reviewers that Spyderco is using red loctite on their blade hardware making it insanely difficult if not warranty voiding to disassemble and clean/maintain your own knife anymore 😑
Pete Ya, you apparently don’t get it. What it actually takes to get the even full flat grinds, 3D textured g10, professional fit and finish. The spydie hole is a huge favorite over thumb studs by along shot. So much so numerous knife makers either borrow or try to mimic the design. You definitely don’t get it.
Based on your RUclips video and the fact that you're an "advanced knife bro", I find myself baffled by the name of this Benchmade model. Griptilian? What up with that, yo? The gription of the G-10 on my very sharp and stabby Yojimbo 2 seems far more griptious. The Yoji 2, in fact, seems to have even greater gription than my Paramilitary 2. I seek answers and I thank you in advance for your penetrating knowledge in all things knife-related or what have you. PS... I think I might have gotten Ebola from watching this video. etc
What do you mean? He called it a Griptillian because that's the name of that knife... also, the newer Griptillian now come with g10 stock handle. And you can always purchase custom handles if you think the stock handle is not "grip-happy" as you'd want it to be.
Actually, I think the original Griptilian had, like, rubber insets in the plastic handle for added "grip". My biggest objection to the model is that it is a nice blade with cheap plastic (FRN or whatnot) handles that are touted as "grippy". Less expensive knives with comparable steel for the blades, with G-10, are substantially less expensive. Either the Spyderco Delica or Endura in G-10 are cheaper; and a Manix 2 in the hard-use model is still cheaper with better blade steel.
+Bruce McIntyre I've only owned the 154cm model (which was featured in this video). I have not owned any ealier/previous model of Griptillian (than the 154cm). So I cannot comment about whether or not the actual original version was rubberized or not.
The Endura has a more comfortable handle. I don't like the jimping on this model because it begins to hurt after extended cutting- as seen in this video. I like the steel, lock, and deployment but I'm not a fan of the handle. I thought I replied to your original comment, way back when- but I don't see my response any more. But yeah... The Endura is a better model... and a G10 version of this shouldn't cost $170. Also... how about that name change? Thanks for the idea.
I love my benchmade, I love it even more when I remember I didn't have to pay for it bc my cheating ex girlfriend was constantly 1) riddled with guilt and 2) fucking loaded

Couldn't decide. Got 'em both. Been shaving SO MUCH wood. Thanks!
At you're honest about what you don't stab or what you don't build every day. I can appreciate it.

Ganzo Firebird Griptilian with CARBON FIBER scales, full steel milled out liners, perfect axis lock, perfect blade centering, razor sharp knife from the mail today.
Ganzo into Benchmade dident Nancy Reagen warn us about this pattern?
First :)
+Loric1347 and second! The war on cheap imported knives!
+mhanlen1 I find your lack of fear mongering propaganda... bisturbing
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this knife have a saber or partial flat grind?
Ok... so when you posted this yesterday- I did some digging. I don't like to continue the propagation of bad information.
more benchmade and spyderco reviews please:)
+40belowful I'm trying to get some more. I've got a few budget things coming up in the near future... But id love to get a new Spyderco for sure. They just put out some new models.
The sheepsfoot model with the thumbhole is better!!! Review it!!! Please!!!!
+Fetus it does tend to break in. You can always tighten up the pivot t screw... if you have one of those kits- but it should be fine.
Advanced Knife Bro thanks for the info
The grip in a 🏆 for benchmade. I like then.got 2 now.fine video job done.
Thank you!
Hahha very funny, (and informative). Cute doggy in the background!
love my endura in ZDP-189
Knife center has that new one that has a wood handle. I wish I had the dough.
Yet another top of the line video and review. Its not a knife that calls to me but if it were I'd take your deminstration and word for it and buy it .
Benchmade should make a model called the Tramp Stamp.
+SailfishSoundSystem I'll write them a letter about that.

Man... remember when Matt Foley was the only motivational speaker in town??
He was also El Nino. Spanish for The Nino.
Did you buy the ganzo from gearbest.com? The site seems a tad sketchy to me
+Johnny Sotelo I've bought plenty of things from them before...
Can you circumsize people with it?
Or is it sharp enough
I mean you can... I guess... I wouldn’t... but there’s a lot of things I don’t do that other people do.
So your saying....yes:)
Intelligent and funny review. I just subbed.
Thanks man!
You are hilarious, love your reviews.
Thanks man!
Well it's well made has good steel doesn't feel quite right with the belt clip it's an oversized feather weight knife feels sturdier than it is kept feeling like the handle could stand to be half an inch longer I'd call it worth it however it's a hunting pack knife not an edc the bugout might be the edc knife but I'll find that out later this year
The bugout is probably the nicer of the two.
I love how you bring up another knife that you enjoy instead of setting it beside 7 other knives we don't own (and would never want to own). that shit irritates me.
another good vid. Has a "Dollar Shave Club" feel to it.
They have funny commercials... I'll take it- thanks!
Keep it up I love your reviews and keep that cussing!!!
Thanks man!
You're a funny dude. Earned a sub!
Thanks man! Got plenty more coming.
Never was a fan of that knife line.
gateway knife is the only way i will refer to ganzos from now on
I do like my grip it sho am good
Fo Sho!
There are a 🏆 for benchmade.☝😁i got two of them.very fine knives.
The benchmade griptilian is a flat grind bevel benchmade flat bevels almost all there knives
Your supposed to wear a lot of camo and stuff when building a fire and using a ferro rod. I think it intensifies the energy of the sun.
the clone has G10 hanlde ! the cone is more than worth it the real grip is not !
You must work for Benchmade then. You obviously know what it takes to manufacture this knife. Of course the Chinese rip-off is cheaper. They’re treated as slaves over there. Whiners like you crack me up. You probably complain about the cost of a Sebenza 31 as well.
👍
You seem like a road scholar that has all the Tee shirts life gives out upon completion of the strings attached segments... Thats why I fight back with an insulting degradation of humor. If im the only one laughing, all the better. The last one one upping, is the self declared winner. I'll get both of these knifes. Great gift ideas that will make me 10 percent cooler than I already am. I just cut myself, gotta go!! Tman!.........
Finally, someone on the internet that gets me! WE ALL WIN!
...and you can still get an Endura or Delica in ZDP-189 for around the same price.
Mega lame Benchmade.
Spyderco stopped using red Loctite and you are allowed to dissasemble the knives as well.
+BigHitter607
...I have the 154cm griptillian. And its not a rubber handle at all. FRN? Yes. Rubber? No.
+Bruce McIntyre
I've only owned the 154cm model (which was featured in this video).
Am I the only one that got the sound of thunder reference
My gal has a butterfly tat on her lower back 🤦♂️
I had a girlfriend with that too.
well done video
Thanks!
I'm glad I got all my Benchmades before they decided they weren't expensive enough. Great video, as always.
+WayBeyondGone aww man... They went up? I should have been riding the Benchmade train a while ago. Thanks!
Yeah, this was a year or two ago. A 551 was more like $85.
It could be related with workers increased wages. something that will never happen in China.
BUT WHERE IS THE BATONING?!?? 🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡
+marshalllaw123 you give people a taste and that's all they want!
This video was fucking fantastic lol
Thanks! I tried to make it as entertaining as possible!
What about the dog..... I need more dog in my RUclips knife review vids i watch..... just saying Bro.
Tactial butterfly....... nope
😆👊🏻
No thanks, Endura 4 or PM2 for me !!!!
good idea go out and do shit instead of watching and criticizing others .
For sure!
Tattoo on a classy lady ?
are you F'n kidding ?
I might be!
Haha you rule man
Thanks man!
I exclusively date girls with butterfly tattoos. Cause I'm classy!
Haha. You're funny
+Doug Dobkowski I try! Check out some of my other reviews!
haha man your funny
Thanks!
I like my 551, but due to the fact Benchmade makes donations to anti-gun democrats I'll never buy another blade from them.
funny vid
