Thank you! Your video helped my solve my issue with no spark. As a note, on a lot of models the "re-igniter board" is separate and replaceable. Original part number: 2931132019 Now made by third parties as 2931132019MC or 2931132019-A. The board in the video though has this combined onto the main control board and is not replaceable.

@@rvrepairwoman I have one situation that is not in the video. When trying to run on gas, I don't hear the "click" from the valve and also don't hear the "tic tic tic" from the igniter. Valve and igniter are new. 12v and 220v work perfectly. Is my electric cardboard gone?

Hello Emily I watched your video on dometic rv refrigerator checks. My inside control panel is dead, has power to it but no power on black signal wire that goes to outside circuit board. If jump the wire terminals at eyebrow board the panel lights up and fridge works. I replaced the eyebrow circuit board and still have to jump those wires to get it to work. How can I get a hold of you for help.

You have been spot on with the diagnoses in both of the video’s I’ve watched so far. Great personality mixed with accurate technical info shared. God bless you! Thanks for your willingness to share the talents you have been blessed with.

We bought a 2014 coachman clipper in the fall from a friend who stated “everything works”, we got it home winterized it and patiently waited for spring to enjoy some camping trip. I pulled it from storage yesterday, dewinterized it and discovered I cannot get the fridge or hot water tank to work. Spent the night disappointed and aggravated then I discovered this channel and now I’m confident I can make the repairs with your guidance. Thank you so much!!

Emily, Your explanation is amazing. I have worked in electronics for over 55 years. I have never heard such a cogent and clear walk through a troubleshooting process as yours. This woman is great. My fridge didn't work and I followed her method and determined my circuit board was bad. My Power Probe read 3.7v at the orange wire but 13v going into the board. This indicates the board is bad. I was using a power probe to test the board which can apply power, so I pushed 12v to the orange wire and the fridge came to life. I then disconnected and reconnected 12v to the fridge and it works normally in all modes. Maybe this trick will help somebody get a few more days out of a bad board. Good luck

Really great video, but I just ripped my pcb cover in half. To remove the cover over the PC board - Once you have the screwdriver in the little slot, don't "wiggle it around," you need to move the screwdriver handle to the left. This forces the bottom of the cover to the right which lifts the front cover over a little tab, located behind and to the right of the cover. So don't twist or jiggle anything, just move the screwdriver handle to the left.
BTW, I really appreciate the content of this video. Thanks for all you do!

Thanks Emily for the great step by step process. I went through it and was still at a loss. My symptoms were a little different. The unit initially would not light. The ground from the igniter unit was not getting good connection, cleaned (your advice). Unit would light but would then shut off after a bit of time. Indicating a thermocouple. Checked voltage when unit was lit, only got .009 to ,011 volts (or 9 millivolts) from the thermocouple. Just for giggles I also let a long Bic lighter under the thermocouple, the voltage went to 25mv. Checked thermocouple mounting, it was loose, apparently allowed the Thermocouple to slide away from the flame. Adjusted and locked down. All is fine.

I had already gone through the testing via a different video. The testing revealed that the circuit board could be bad. I needed confirmation, so I went through all of the tests again using this video. Same results but in this video, you mentioned tapping the relay. When I did that, I had 120v on the heater pin and it worked. However, it was a one time fix and didn't work again. It gave me 100% confirmation the circuit board was faulty. (Thank you)

Great video, however, rather than testing for 110VAC from hot to ground, you should be testing from hot to NEUTRAL. I did as you said and tested from J8 to ground and read the desired 110VAC but the cartridge heater would still not heat up. When I tested from J8 to NEUTRAL, I did not read the desired voltage. It turned out that I had an OPEN Neutral. I traced this back to one of the electrical outlets downstream.
Always test AC voltage between hot and NEUTRAL.
That said, I would never have gotten that far without your most excellent video.
    Thanks so much :-)

  • @stevenmorris5562

This video looks great. And it would be nice to have a little flow chart based on symptoms for the uninitiated. Then then could skip right to the part they need. Was able to figure out I only needed to start with your last chapter.
My problem is that on shore power the unit turns off the gas but doesn't cool. I found a blown fuse, replaced it and it didn't blow but still didn't cool. I could hear a relay kick in so I thought it was working, but no. My guess is that it was the electric heating element. I measure an open circuit across the heating coil. I really need that resistance table that you say is in the description, but is not. Or at least a range. I'm pretty sure that there would be some resistance on the heater.

    • @rvrepairwoman
      @rvrepairwoman  8 месяцев назад +1

I’ll make a video on this soon. (I think I have it on the schedule for this month) but real quick. If a fridge is working electrically (passing all the tests) and is LEVEL but not cooling it can be 1 of 3 tings.
      1. Insulation. Make sure there is proper insulation around all the sides of the fridge AND the top. The insulation is just like the fluffy fiberglass stuff in the walls of your house and it can work its way down when driving a lot. Some manufacturers also forget to put a piece of insulation on the top of the fridge and this really cuts down on the fridges cooling power.
      2. Ventilation. If you open up the upper access panel for the fridge you’ll see some fins on the back of the fridge. Air HAS to go through these fins in order to cool the fridge. Make sure nothing is blocking the air from being able to come in the bottom access panel, up the back of the fridge, and out the top panel. Sometime we need to create baffles to direct the air across the fins.
      3. If your insulation and ventilation are fine you may have a bad cooling unit. You can test for this with the hand test. Look for the flue on the back of the fridge and see if it’s getting hot. Then check if the black coils in the back of the fridge are hot as well. They should be within 10 degrees of each other. If the coils are WILDLY hotter than the flue than you most likely have a blockage in your cooling unit. If the coils are drastically colder than the flue then you most likely have a leak in your cooling unit. Both mean bad cooling unit and it needs to be replaced.
Hope that was helpful/ understandable without visuals. Video is in the work! You go this!

I'm going to try to reset it with the middle button on the eyebrow board (on my panel it's the auto or gas button) , I replaced the regulator and both hoses to the tanks and even though I was careful some dirt could have gotten in the system while I had it apart and I was told that there is a filter screen somewhere before the fridge. My middle led and the right side led starts blinking along with the check led. Do you know what the problem is? Let me know please.

When I put the probe on the black wire for the eyebrow board I was only reading 7.2 volts. When I went inside to start checking the eyebrow board I found the fridge to be working again. All was well until this morning when I woke up it’s dead again. Wiggled everything that I touched a few days ago thinking something was loose and still nothing. If I’m not getting 12v on that black wire would you lean towards the eyebrow board?

Great video - easy to follow your instructions, and very engaging. What if all the tests were "positive" (both the gas side and electric, voltage where supposed to be, element heating, 1A at heating wire), but still no cooling?

Didn’t hear you mention the reset button on the thermal disc? If the thermal disc fuse keeps popping is it a bad thermal disc that needs to be replaced or something else?

WOW!! Ive looked at several "experts" on youtube and yours is the best approach to diagnosis Ive seen! What model were you testing? I have a RM3762 and it seems it must be laid out a bit different. I dont have the 6 pin your speaking of to test the board and no orange wire. My issue seems to be no clicking or spark after its been stored. All other devices that use gas work...but not until I drive around for awhile does it finally click and fire. So weird. Wish I was in Vegas Id definetly look you up for service.

Awesome video - quick question - around 23:00 you mention a table to look up the OHMs value of the heating element. I dont see it anywhere in the description. Can you provide a link?
    I have a DM2872. Thanks

I like this video overall. Yes, there is a butttt!. The battery is having charging issues if you are getting an 11v reading. A full charge is II believe, 12.6-7v . 14v is indicating that the battery is charging. Please do not take this negatively. I am only saying that you need to have the correct information when giving out advice. Best regards.

I loved your video on Fridge Diagnosing. I have a unique situation that is not covered in the video and I have not found anything online that states how to diagnose or repair. My freezer is functioning fine, makes ice in a jiffy and is reading about 5 degrees F, the fridge however is not cold, about 45 to 50 degrees f. Any help would be appreciated.

Just found this video!! Dometic DM2652. Did all of the checks and everything was looking great. Lights on the eyebrow board were on sensing the Check Light wouldn't go off. Did all of the checks and everything was fine. Went to check the orange wire going to the control panel and 2.1 volts. (Motherboard?? as stated in the video??) Now, no lights on the eyebrow board. Fuses in the fuse box are good. Apparently, I need a new motherboard. NOW, I'm seeing a bunch of "upgraded" DM2652 boards. Can you please elaborate on "upgraded"?? Thanks for your help.

Mine is testing good on all but the thermistor resistance is low. Putting in a new one tomorrow and hopfully the fridge will cool? The fridge is only 3 years old and no yellow leak or ammonia. Next step is turn the fridge upside-down for 24hrs

Thanks for this video, it's a big help. It looks like everything is working OK on my fridge, it cools great on AC, I get flame on propane however the fridge still doesn't cool very well on propane. I typically camp without electricity so propane is a must for me. Any other ideas on what I should look for? It is a Dometic RM8501 in a 2015 RPod 179. I have tried to clean the orfice tube and jet and the flame looks to be the same size as before.

Firstly, amazing video. Thank you! I ran through all the testing ac and dc and everything checked out ok. However, my fridge never gets cold, adjuster in fridge set to coldest. Seems like the problem is with the fridge itself is my thought, element or freon (if there is any in dometic. Is there a way to verify if it is?

Watched through your video and here’s my discovery: J8, heater pin, on my Dometic control board shows 1.6 volts and when I checked my heating element at the cable ends for continuity I get no tone. I did thwack the relay and when I rechecked the heating element pin, it’d dropped to 1 volt. Suggestions? Oh, fuses are good. My plan is to purchase new heating element; and if that doesn’t do it, then new control board.

Great troubleshooting guidance. I passed all of the tests, but purchased two new control boards thinking the first replacement was bad (which it may be) but still no resolution. My problem is that when running on AC, it pops the RV circuit breaker. Could it be the electric heating element is the problem???

Thank you for your video. I have tested my Domectic Refrigerator. All test were good, except no AC power coming out of J8 heater pin. The rest is getting AC 120, but no AC to J8. Is there any other reason why I would not get 120 to the AC heater pin. I have bought several boards from Amazon and I guess all the boards are bad because none of them provide the 120 to the AC heater pin. Outlet good, AC line good, fuse good, AC to both sides, and all the check points to 12 volt work. Also, Thermal Disc good, fuse good, and heater lines good. Thanks.
