Sorry the phone closed on me so I noticed on this unit if I turn off the AC and wait 10 or 15 seconds turn it back on, it cools properly with a 15 to 20° difference. When I did this I went back up top and did the measurement and the black wire was reading a little less than double the other two wires so now the compressor is not bad. It seems to blow hot air more frequently when it's hot outside than when it's cold right now I'm sitting in a chili nicely cool motorhome after the sun has gone down and the AC has been putting out great cold air but sometime tomorrow it'll switch back to not cooling. I don't think my compressor is bad or it's bad in that sometimes it totally works and sometimes it doesn't. What could it be I'm at a loss for my next step and the different technicians honestly don't know what they're doing. Your videos are more informative that they could ever hope to be.
I do the majority of my RV repairs. I needed this video. I will be testing my unit as my ac runs and I can hear the compressor come on but it doesn't cool. Thank you for explaining the test process. I suspected a freon leak but I don't see any black oily substance around anywhere. Again, thank you.
Thank you so much for this info. There’s a lot of insecurity with calling a tech out when I can’t know if what they’re telling me makes sense is nerve wracking. Thank you for the excellent educational video. I grateful.
Thanks for the informative video resulting in a huge save. When I checked the 3 wires on the compressor, the red was fried and the white and black did not look good. I got a 0.9, 2.3 and a 3.1 which told me the compressor was good. Fixed the wires and now it’s freezing in my RV 😂 Thanks
Thank you so much!!! Definitely helped me. Im grateful for the detail and depth you went into. I'm learning out of necessity, but also like working on stuff. I'm pretty confident this is something small I can do now, which means you saved me! As a female that works on stuff I find it a struggle to get someone to teach basics. Your description of the multimeter use is super empowering. You are an awesome teacher. Using multiple methods to get through. The energy you put into this video! ❤ It. So much thanks!!! It was perfect for me right now.
I just did this today tested the caps and the compressor cap wasn't even 1uF and it needed to be around 40, the fan cap was excellent. $13 fix..... Was tripping breakers and couldnt figure it out until I tested it. Controllers fine. I build circuit boards but never messed with caps this big but the concept was the same.
I have a new 2023 Rv with a Coleman mach 15 A/C. We bought the rv last September and only started using the AC recently. I followed the advice you mentioned in the video and used a volt meter on the compressor and it passed the test. I did not find an oily residue near the compressor or the coils, so there’s no freon leak. However my A/C is still just blowing slightly cool to almost room temperature air. Also I’m noticing after about 15 or 20 minutes that the top half of my evaporator is starting to frost over and turn to ice. The birdcage fan turns really well and moves a lot of air. I also checked my freeze sensor on the volt meter and it appears to be ok. I made sure the baffle/plenum and foil tape were in proper position. Why is my unit not blowing cold air and why is the evaporator freezing up ?
@Romansch6vs23 I have a 2022 5th wheel (1 previous owner) purchased in January 2023, with 2 Coleman Mach 15 ACs, after working fine last Summer, This summer the living room unit started freezing up. After cleaning the evaporator coils, the next day it really froze up and made a big bang and shot out ice... I called the repair guy out, he tested everything and basically said I had a pinhole leak in the freon, so it would not show up as oily residue or anything like that and it would be an extremely slow leak so it could easily take as long as it did to start having problems... But the main thing was that it was having to run non-stop to keep up with outside temps (SW FL) .... He straightened out my baffle a smidge, and added a little bit of tape to seal around a couple itty bitty tiny spaces/edges (Believe it or not the smallest cracks/spaces make the biggest differences) and after that I keep track of only allowing my AC to run 2 hours at a time and making sure it's off for a good 30 minutes to an hour before running it again... I haven't had any problem since, however it gets extremely hot during the day even with both my AC's running...the good one and the temperamental one. The air is only going to cool 20 to 25° less than what it is outside and our "feel like" temps have been around 105-106 when it's 94° outside. So, bottom line is you may have a pinhole leak in your Freon, so you might only be able to run it a couple hours at a time or otherwise it'll start to freeze up, also, it's not going to give you that ice cold air like a perfectly running system would. I get very cool air, somewhat cold air out of the temperamental one... but it's not as "ice cold" as the good running one in the bedroom. If any of that makes any sense. At least I haven't had to replace it so far.
@user-zq8vi2wl7g if it has a pin hole leak than the feon would all leak out and it would not cool at all I'm having the same problem freezing up starts at top of evaporator once the air flow is blocked it stops cooling like it should
@@user-zq8vi2wl7g HELLO neighbor! I’m also in SWFL. My A/C is still under warranty, but it would be a few weeks before the dealership could get it in. I am a general Superintendent for construction. Whenever a unit doesn't pass operational testing and it ices the condensor coils over it is a low coolant condition (R134A, R410A, R22, doesnt matter which one). The same applies for the RV units. I have read that some newer units were coming under charged from the factory with no leaks detected on the unit. For example the Dometic Brisk 2 takes 18oz of R410A. However, if the unit starts icing from the bottom of the evaporator coil up I would suspect you have a plugged up condensation drain.
You are a very bright young lady. I employed text in a different field and you've got all the gears in place! I've got a Coleman mock air conditioner that sometimes blows ambient temperature air. I used your video to test my compressor. The compressor is good. My A/C runs like it should but it doesn’t blow cold air. 3 year old Coleman Mach 3. Do you have any suggestions? Thx!
Emily, question. My Mach works great until it shuts off at designated temperature. When it cycles back on, it SOMETIMES tends to blow warm air until i turn off for a few minutes and turn it back on again. What would keep the compressor from firing up as normally as it should and firing up intermittently? THX
So I have that exact unit...I tested the compressor..math added up....I changed out both the start and run capacitors...the fan runs fine on old capacitor so didn't change that one. When I turn the air conditioner on ...cold...the compressor sounds like it wants to start...makes a little noise...generator labors....then sounds like it resets and follows that pattern ever 45 seconds or so. If you ALSO have a Trickle Charger ON YOUR HOUSE BATTERIES do you need to CHECK ✔ THAT IT IS SHUT OFF TOO? Our Motorcoach has a Trickle Charger and I believe it is associated with the on-board Generator. Does that normally run to the House BATTERIES even if you are connected to Shore Power? I have zero knowledge about most things 12V or 120V. We do stay connected to 120V Shore Power most of the time BUT if we lose 120V Power then we switch to the on-board Generator and the on-board House Batteries for that through the Systems Control Panel. I hope I explained that correctly... basically it is either/or and the Trickle Charger is normally left in the ON Position. I think that's how it works. I know that the Trickle Charger can be turned ON and OFF at the Batteries in one of the MOTORCOACH'S Basement areas where the House Batteries are housed. Roof AC Fan works great 👍👌, but NO👎Cold Air. I'm trying everything I know to do as a former 911 Dispatcher. But the daytime hours are too HOT 🔥 for either of us to go up on the Motorcoach's roof. It's been a month now without AC, and will be another month until temps would safely 🙏 allow either of us to try checking the roof-top AC adequately. HUSBAND IS A VETERAN AND IS A HEART/LUNG PATIENT. Hi Emily My ac on my camper cools but during the day it doesn't seem to shut off much cools good at night and it drips water inside the camper , could we be low on freon , any Ideas Please
Do you have a PDF or a video explaining why I can hear my compressor shut off and then I get warm air and then I will get cool air for about 10 minutes and then I’ll get warm air for about 15-20 minutes and then cool air for about 10 minutes and on and on and on. It’s 93° outside and 85 to 89° inside. I have a Coleman Mach. 30 amp trailer.
Thank you for the reply. I did that yesterday and it been working great today (it was very hot outside and it ran all day). Here’s hoping that’s all it needed. Glad to hear that was the fix for you.
@@jambrose3113 I also modified my AC. In addition to what the video below will show you I took out the little plastic rings that are connected to my vents and I taped the space up with foil tape, in place of the ring. The rings interrupt the airflow and they allow air into the space between the ceiling and the roof. Before I did the mod and taped the vents the only way you could feel the vent is I went up to it put my hand right on it. Now it gets so cold I have to aim them away from me. You lose your dump vents on the unit, but I don’t miss them and I thought I would. Also, if you have space that extends beyond your last vent block that and tape it up as well. Great video! Does the AC guide pdf you have contain the way to check for a refrigerant leak with the multimeter and anything about checking relays? Those r the last things I haven’t checked to understand if our Coleman Mach is part of the “1%” 😢. Keep up the great content!
Did I miss it, or did you not mention that the heat overload protector could be the culprit? I've had that problem and just replacing it had everything working again. Did you cover that in another video? Thanks
@@rvrepairwoman Thanks, I figured so, but checking that first could have been a really quick inexpensive fix. That's what mine was. I temporarily jumped / by-passed the overload protector and it blew nice cold air. Just needed to replace the overload protector. They can go bad.

Mine was tripping while running. Turns out the fan inside the electrical box that cools the breakers had stopped working. The fan is about $8. The work around until I received the part was to plug in a regular fan and keep it blowing on the breaker box all day to keep it from overheating. Worked great.
Got a question. Replacing a domestic ac to a Coleman Mach ac. Do I reuse the controller box from the old domestic unit for the Coleman? Dometic ac had 110 plug to clip in a d Coleman dosent. I’m so lost. Have a video that shows how to convert dometic to Coleman. Also there’s no ceiling shroud inside the camper
Should be super easy! You’ll just need an adapter to connect the nine pin Coleman connector to the 6 pin connector on the Dometic control box. Easy product to get your hands on.
@@rvrepairwoman r u sure cause the the old domestic didn’t come with a plug. It was all hard wired in. My controller box is a lot bigger then the one I see online too

😅because I have women who call me every week telling me how some male tech was super condescending to them and hoping I’ll be different. I’m not saying it WILL happen. I’m saying it DOES happen. And one way to avoid it? Learning how to test your AC yourself.
Most of the time it can be your start capacitor and run capacitors that go bad its a common issue. They are $13 for each one the start capacitor is back and the run capacitor is silver
How does one test the capacitors and where can we purchase them, if needed? We just replaced our RVP Excelair with their recommended Coleman Mach 8. Our old RVP a/c was shot. This new Coleman Mach 8 now runs, but is just blowing ambient air. Frustrated beyond belief at the lack of instruction provided by RVP, after expending $1,560 plus $179 for shipping. Fortunately our bedroom unit still works, but can't cool enough for the entire 5th wheel, in these current 90-94 degree Louisiana heat waves.
I appreciate your help, but please try to get to the point much quicker please. I'm not disrespecting you or your work, but you should come to the substance / point much quicker. Just my humble opinion.

Sometimes when i turn the gen on the ac wont kick on unless i turn the fan on let it run for a bit then switch over to auto it starts to work. But just recently its kicking the breaker
THANKS for ANY Help. We're currently in HOT FLORIDA 🔥 TEMPERATURES and in our mid-70s of age... running FOUR Floor Fans! And taking 2-3 cool showers 🚿 👌 per day. We also take our 2 Multipoo pups into the cool showers 🚿 with us to help keep them comfortable too. Also keeping everyone HYDRATED is Key 🔑 👌 👍. It's been hard on all of us but I'm sure there are others out there who are struggling without working AC units across the country, especially in the Deep Southern and Western states. I'm trying to remain positive 💪 about it all. Emily, you are a true GEM 💎 💖 to your profession! Wonderful 👏 to see a great Female technician out there breaking through barriers 💪🤝 and not compromising your own self worth while doing it all. Bravo 👏 to you and your continued success 👏 🙌 👍.
My numbers are all correct. So if it’s not my compressor what could cause my rv ac not to blow cold?
1. Capacitor
2. The controller board can have stuck relays.
Thank u so much for all your test tips I have a Coleman Mac air conditioner cools on high, but not on low it just hums any advice thanks
Hi Emily, me again with my GE AC. I just tested my compressor and got a 0.7,2.2&2.6. It seems to add up right. Any thing else I should look into?
I can’t get your tool to work
Great video your a Boss 👍👏
Hi Emily
My ac on my camper cools but during the day it doesn't seem to shut off much cools good at night and it drips water inside the camper , could we be low on freon , any Ideas
Please
Do you have a PDF or a video explaining why I can hear my compressor shut off and then I get warm air and then I will get cool air for about 10 minutes and then I’ll get warm air for about 15-20 minutes and then cool air for about 10 minutes and on and on and on. It’s 93° outside and 85 to 89° inside.
I have a Coleman Mach. 30 amp trailer.
This is the issue I’m having as well.
@@jambrose3113
I got on the roof and cleaned all the fins and now it’s working correctly and it’s nice and cold.
Thank you for the reply. I did that yesterday and it been working great today (it was very hot outside and it ran all day). Here’s hoping that’s all it needed. Glad to hear that was the fix for you.

I also modified my AC.

@@FanceeName we are on the same page because I did all of that too. I also replaced the thermostat, run compositor, breaker, breaker fan. I think the only thing I haven’t replaced is the circuit box up in the return. Thanks for the tips! Very useful info!
Let me give you an easier test. Look up and see if you forgot to remove the winter cover! My AC stopped working this past weekend (my first trip of the season). Took the cover off and the AC came back to life.
😂that’ll do it!
😅
I took and put meter clamp around black wire and got a 4.9 reading RLA on label showed 10.1. It’s a Coleman Mac 13500 unit. Temp is 83. What do you think I told them bad a/c
That sounds like refrigerant leak.
@@rvrepairwoman Thanks
Testing the resistance of the compressor windings begins at 15 mins 20 secs
Great video! Does the AC guide pdf you have contain the way to check for a refrigerant leak with the multimeter and anything about checking relays? Those r the last things I haven’t checked to understand if our Coleman Mach is part of the “1%” 😢. Keep up the great content!
Yes it does!
Thanks for the great information!
Great show! God bless.
I tried that test today, but the compressor was leaking so bad i couldn't get a read. It was a mess. I have to put a new one in.
Excellent video. Concise and easy to follow. I subscribed. Vegas local too!
Did I miss it, or did you not mention that the heat overload protector could be the culprit? I've had that problem and just replacing it had everything working again. Did you cover that in another video?
Thanks
I mentioned it real quick in the middle. You can test it for continuity. Was concentrating just on the compressor test for this video.
@@rvrepairwoman Thanks, I figured so, but checking that first could have been a really quick inexpensive fix. That's what mine was. I temporarily jumped / by-passed the overload protector and it blew nice cold air. Just needed to replace the overload protector. They can go bad.
How do I test my relay or contactor
Great video! Love the energy and the way to call it like it is. Well done, just sent email for tool. Thanks!
Good morning Emily. We just hit a 2003 Fleetwood pioneer rv and we can’t get the fridge, and the AC TURNS ON BLOWS FRESH for like 30 seconds then blows HOT 😭😭
We just GOT
Would the compressor test be the same for a Coleman 9000? Mine is blowing air only.
Yup! Same test no matter the brand of AC.
Our a c is throwing the breaker still cooling when we flip it back on only flipped breaker twice in two weeks or trail runner r v is only three years old
Is it only tripping the breaker on start up? Or randomly while it’s running?
@@rvrepairwoman random while running it has only done it twice and we've been using every day for about 10 days now it's cooling just fine it just makes me nervous that breaker tripping
@@rvrepairwomanwe are on a two week trip when I get back home on 24 th might try replacing breaker
So far a c still cooling yeah it's been 95 degrees here in Texas
Mine was tripping while running. Turns out the fan inside the electrical box that cools the breakers had stopped working. The fan is about $8. The work around until I received the part was to plug in a regular fan and keep it blowing on the breaker box all day to keep it from overheating. Worked great.
@@jambrose3113 thank you for the tip I'll check it out
That was awesome. Thanks Don
Glad you enjoyed it!
My controller box is a lot bigger then the one I see online too
@@rvrepairwoman dometic model # f48ag86a61 “genteq”
What would cause it to short cycle but the fan stays running even on auto
Do you come to mesquite Rv ac is working not cooling
My issue is that the AC units run on shore power but not on generator . AC1 has green light on no shed , no fan or cooling . AC2 has shed light on steady , blows fan , not cooling . Pit when it’s on power show it’s works . I’m
At a loss.
Great video!
Great work!
I saw you went to NRVTA for schooling. Did you feel hard, what were into before you were an RV tech?
The links for the AC guides are not on the webpage. Or are they still being built.
I understood that one or two were ready.
All the Guides can be found here: www.rvrepairwoman.com/acguides
The one for if your Coleman Mach isn't cooling is this one: www.rvrepairwoman.com/ac-guides/p/ac-not-cooling-guide-coleman-mach
And if your Coleman Mach isn't turning on is this one: www.rvrepairwoman.com/ac-guides/p/coleman-mach-ac-not-turning-on
Dometic guides are still in the works!
YOU GOT THIS!
Thank you
My ohm meter won’t stop, it keeps flashing different numbers. The compressor is coming on, it’s very hot and not cooling. Any advice anybody? Damn year old Coleman Mach hardly used. Bedroom unit cools great.
Need lass yada yada, more to the point. Is there a video for the advanced class?
What do you do if the freon has leaked out?
You’re unfortunately looking at getting a new AC.
Crap, it's just out of warranty too. I assume it's the freon as it smelled musty then stopped blowing cold. Thanks for the help!
@@infinityvideoproda musty smell then not blowing cold, could very easily be dirty evaporator coils. I would try cleaning those 1st.
I just replaced the unit and the compressor still not running
Technically you should check the meter FIRST on a known good voltage source. Typically a receptacle. To verify the meter is good.
⚡️👍🏻
There is a white wire in mine that no one knows what it goes to!
Hi, I bought one of your guides and never received an email with the guide. Left you a text and voicemail and haven’t got a reply. I’m very close to calling my bank.
just get on with it
😁 'promo sm'
I like your videos shocked you are in Las Vegas, ever need assistant help, need part time help?
Everything was great, but only one problem would you say that a male tech will come and talk down to you? That’s not nice why would you say that?
😅because I have women who call me every week telling me how some male tech was super condescending to them and hoping I’ll be different. I’m not saying it WILL happen. I’m saying it DOES happen. And one way to avoid it? Learning how to test your AC yourself.
OK so first take the Air conditioner all the way out and then test - and science did not teach electronics
You carried on so much that I lost interest. Lose the drama, please.
Just my humble opinion.
lol I have videos in a bunch of different styles. Some people want more talking, some people want less. To each their own.
This would’ve been a lot better video if you just went and talk so damn much and just get to the point!
This would have been a better comment if I could understand what you were saying ❤️
@rvrepairwomen. Perfect response to someone trying to replicate being a classless JERK. 👏👏👏
Very annoying to listen to. Just get to the facts and point of your test.
4 minutes + and I'm out
Good video for checking the compressor. Should easily be a 5-7 min video though. Holy $4!t!! Less talking, more doing!
Kept me entertained. ❤
blah blah blah
too long winded
Than don't listen. Detail are appreciated, by some of us.
It's not the volts that get you, it's those damn amps! 😂
