Been on a few ductless courses, those boards hold around 300vdc after you shut off the power, they always told us it takes about a sec per volt to dissipate, so give it at least 5min before diving in. Good advice for clearing nuisance codes too 👍

    • @jphvac5725

Or you can discharge the caps just like with microwaves. That many volts dc especially with high amps can not just shock but kill.

Glad you mentioned about the inverter board being dangerous after powering off. The capacitors hold one hell of a charge that’ll hurt you bad.

it's always good idea to "hipot" test the compressor before calling a control board. it could very well have a current leak to ground, which can kill the board and not show up on simple resistance testing with ohm meter. I'd say the off brand mini-splits are meant to be thrown away when broken.

electronics engineer here, those switching FETs (black 3 pin devices at the top of the board) don't look too happy. I'm willing to bet that they went open circuit due to extended thermal stress. these FETs drive the compressor btw, which would explain no output from the drive.

The compressor three phase vfd switching actually occurs in the integrated power module to the right. The bridge rectifier is to left. Those middle two components are curious. The right one almost looks like two pin not three, maybe diode? Maybe they are a mos switch and schottky for some kind of power factor correcting boost citrcuit? Don’t typically see any to220 devices wherever the integrated vfd power modules are employed. for example look at latest generation genteq ecm motor controller boards. silicon consists of bridge rectifier and an STM integrated “power module” vfd/mcu chip..
