Worms 3D's Illegal Levels

- Worms 3D is a game that means a ton to me, mostly cause it was one of the first games I ever played, but one thing that always kind of bugged me was the fact that the game features 18 maps that aren't available for use in multiplayer, instead being locked to the game's singleplayer content.
In this video I go through all 18 of these maps, along with 3 unused maps, and judge if locking them to their respective missions was the right move or not.

did not expect this to be half an hour of worm antics this was supposed to be a fun lil thing I threw together will focusing on assignments and stuff but unfortunately my random obsessions won out again
You let the intrusive thoughts win 😔
"Unfortunately"
Yeah ok
Big Nostalgiellow strikes again
ADHD bringing us another BANGER video 😎
I just recovered from being really sick so I can't tell if it's just me but I feel like you've uploaded this video before
Never in my life did I think subbing to someone because of Pokemon and fighting game content would lead to discussions on the merits of a single Lego piece and how Team 17 left out a bunch of maps from one of my childhood games. This is peak RUclips, I've finally found it
replace pokemon with smash and I'm in the exact same boat
Don't forget about overpowered cards in Club Penguin
it’s all downhill from here
I'm the opposite I subbed for the insaniquarium video and stayed for everything else these videos are so good
Big yellow is genuinely peak RUclips I don’t think I’ve ever heard a phrase that better describes them
When you said "5 wormies out of 5, hoo-ray", I felt like Ego in Ratatouille when he ate the ratatouille and flashed back to his mom giving him Ceave
I love the part when he said "It's Ceaving time" and Ceaved all over the place
I still say hoo-ray all the time because of Ceave.
Yum-Yum Mushrooms
Too bad he hasn't uploaded in over a year, hope he's doing alright

Just in case you weren’t aware, down in the dumps is actually a reference to a worms 2 map, it’s basically a 3D version of that image, super cool and helps explain why it’s so flat
9-6-1975on license plate looks like someones birthday (June 9th 1975?) tbh. It may be Worms creator, since he apparently was around 20 year old when Worms were published?
Making a joke about a Worms 3D map not being safety rated for two compartment flooding is exactly why I watch your videos, where else am I going to find content like this
you have GOT to keep making videos nobody gives a shit about. i love this and cant get it many other places
"Nobody gives a shit about" damn, you just murdered me and my friends
@@jestfullgremblim8002 I am in shambles right now
That's a good advice to creators, actually. Make videos YOU enjoy to make, instead of focusing to appealing to audience.
A mod to make the jetpack work at any height would fix a lot of these
alternatively, making the max jetpack height a level property instead of a static value for all levels

Watching Big Yellow videos is like going to the pub with your best friend and letting him order for you. You never know what to expect, but you know it's gonna be good.
From Street Fighter to Pokèmon to Lego Power Miners to Worms.
I fucking love your channel dude.
11:28 Ok i can actually (sort of) explain this one! "Ultra Miner Adventure" is a brazilian game starring what is essentially a caricature of a culture from a region here in brazil (think of it as like, a platformer featuring a caricature of londoners or people from new york), and worms is really, really popular over here in brazil. So there's a good chance whatever dude making that game played worms 3d as a kid and just, decided to steal the entire goddamn level
Nah the creator of the game is just bat shit insane, a RUclipsr from here made a lot of videos about his games and they are all stolen/free assets with crazy plots and unplayable controls
"people from New York" yeah, you're gonna have to narrow it down more than that
yeah I don't know about that... looks like it's just a crappy game that thinks it can get away with stealing assets from obcsure titles
Worms 3D is fucking sick, thank you for shining a light on this great game
Levels being rejected because they’re too small always makes me giggle a bit because some of the terrain generator maps could be absolutely minuscule.
I would get such a kick out of rerolling for a tiny little island where there’s barely a foot between each worm spawn point and pack it full of landmines and barrels and just watch the entire map explode in a shower of worms the moment anyone moved an inch.
That Team 17 stage could have easily been made as a playable one by turning the logo to face upwards and have more land (something like the SEGA logo level in Super Monkey Ball), but I'd still have loved to see that stage myself while playing
As a child these levels had such a surreal and somewhat eerie vibe to them. It's like what people feel about liminal spaces nowadays.
Holy crap that Miner Ultra Adventures ripping Worm & The Beanstalk is like unlocked memories & knowledge for me now.
Honestly it kind of sucks that the jetpack thruster strength has to scale negatively with altitude like that, seems like it puts a damper on the verticality of maps a little bit but it is what it is.
S tier content as always, I think this video finally pushes me over the edge to get Worms 3D for my own collection.
I haven't played Worms 3D but that seems like a really easy thing to fix honestly, like there are multiple ways you could tweak the math that calculates the jetpack "peter-out" curve so that the max altitude you could reach with it wasn't just a single universal constant that kneecaps its usefulness (or even its entire usability, period) on certain maps.
Never thought I'd hear the word 'egregious' so many times in a Worms video lol
It always irritated me that i couldn't play on these levels
For comparision, Worms 4 has only 3 notable illegal levels: Crate challenge, Accuracy Challenge, and Sniper challenge (being a redesign of Tin Can Wally)
I hear the phrase "iconic worm cube" and know this guy's legit
The worms from Worms 3D having PTSD from being held in a POW camp was not a development I was expecting today.
Big Yellow is the channel that is directly targetting me in all eras of my life
My present with Smash and Pokemon
My future for Fighting games (I just got into FighterZ and labbing combos)
And my past with Lego and Worms content
This is truly a blessed channel, just missing TF2 and I will be complete with my subscription to Beeg Y lmao
The three 3D Worms games are a _very_ important part of my childhood. I watched let's plays of them _a lot_ before I bought/torrented them.
The exception is Worms Forts, which I had found extremely difficult. There was only like 1 or 2 levels I didn't find difficult. I even recall having mild problems with the last tutorial mission!
Worms 3D, meanwhile, I'm pretty sure I 100%'d twice in my life. Amazing game. And that title screen music! *WOOOOOOO!* :D
And lastly, Worms 4. Pretty good. Has quite a lot of weird, gimmicky weapons (like the Alien Abduction or Inflatable Scouser, or the Icarus Potion) but overall I still like it. I still have Ultimate Mayhem on Steam in case I wanted to play Worms again.
I just saw pokemon stadium rentals last night cause "hey watch later" I pull this up for background noise in my car and immediately see you and go "it's the same dude wtf". Time to subscribe now lol
"a noose? that's not very child friendly"
boy i can't wait to explain the lore of Subcon Forest from Hat in Time
Absolutely loved Worms 3D growing up. I don't what it is about it, perhaps just the simplicity, that makes it feel so much better than Worms 4 Mayhem.
Also loving the varied content on your channel! It's like whenever the next Big Yellow Video pops, I have no idea where it'll go or what topic it'll be on. Always a welcome surprise!
I think what made it great above 4 is the map design. It's a shame they never made a reappearance in ultimate mayhem.
I liked the color pallet and the atmosphere. Darker and more moody than Worms 4. I also vaguely remember that Worms 4 didn't have as detailed maps as Worms 3D. I mean, in a way that when you blew a hole to a boat, it had an interior.
worms 3d is absolutely goated, time to watch this video 7 times
25:26 "Doesn't entirely match the visual... geography? Is that the word for that?"
No, geometry.
Man, this is totally my favorite channel on youtube. I can't believe I get this interested in things so niche, I love it
You cannot believe the whiplash I got when I heard you talk about Miner Ultra Adventures, I'm from the country that abomination comes from and that game is *VERY* infamous here
Jetpack Challenge 3: Am I seeing a little tunnel in one of those buildings, possibly referencing some old war movie where they tunnel out of a POW camp? That'd be what that little nook in the side of the island is, I bet!
11:25 so, Mineirinho Ultra Adventures was made up by a brazillian guy named Dennis, the game became popular because a brazillian youtuber named Gemaplys made a video about this game, roasting the shit out of it. Not only the game got roasted, but Dennis himself, as he didn't accept people's negative opinion about the game, and was a complete asshole when answered some questions, Dennis even managed to swear at people. The game became popular to the level of having live speedrun events, and nobody knows exactly why the game became popular then, because Gemaplys at the time wasn't a big channel, it just worked, people just bought the game and the reason is not because the game is good which obviously isn't the case, who knows. Mineirinho Ultra Adventures was made on Blender, Dennis was so fucking lazy that he stole other people's content as shown in the video, he even managed to get called to a brazillian TV channel, named Globo. I know everything of this because i am a brazillian myself, and i remember everything at the time. I never thought i was going to explain this 2017 event to a non-brazillian channel, love ur videos btw
I haven't really played worms 3d, but worms 4: mayhem holds a massive soft spot on my heart. All those hours together with my brother and my cousin were great
I used to obsessively not just play, but also watch the 3D Worms games on RUclips. Awesome era of my childhood.
same bro i had worms 4 for a ps2 we have in another home and when we go in there for vacations n stuff i used to play the shit out of it
The funny thing about the small maps not being added due to lack of traversability in this game is that my fondest memory of Worms 3D is messing around with the procedural generation seeds (because what other games had anything like that in 2003? the roguelike revolution was like, a good decade away at least) and finding an arctic map that was nothing but a single small island with a shitload of explosive barrels and landmines. If a single worm set off a mine or blew up another worm with a bazooka, basically the entire map would explode and everyone would be dead.
Now, *technically*, the traversal issues in this map aren't due to the geometry so much as the in-game obstacles on the map (which I think could be removed or altered??), but if that's allowed, I don't see why most of the other maps here can't be. That being said, most of them suck anyway, so fair enough.
Anyway, great video. Sometimes, I think I'm the only person in the world that remembers Worms 3D and I do really wish Team17 would put it on Steam. I do really love Worms Ultimate Mayhem a lot, but there's something about the frank simplicity of this game that makes it fun to come back to.
Came for Pokémon, stayed for the extremely based variety content (Club Penguin, LEGO, etc.)
Keep being awesome, Big Yellow
"You gotta love the bucket" -Big Yellow 2022
The Titanic map was also used for the demo version of the game that came on the CDs included on many a PC gaming magazine back in those days. It was similar to a campaign map and had a completely different spawn layout for the worms.
This reminds me of an Msushi video about speedrunning specifically the first map of of the ninth chapter of Portal 2. It’s not in the map set for the game’s speedrunning mode, but you can mod the game so that it is and it’s really hard to speedrun because it has a single cube and cubes are glitchy and finicky and can make you majestically fly through the air like an eagle piloting a blimp.
I once again clicked on a video about something I don't give a shit about and was still completely entertained throughout. Bravo
This video is a masterpiece, and every extra tangent you go on (like the miner game) elevates it further. This is the exact style of content I love to watch.
Someone posting this video in a Discord made me remember Worms 4: Mayhem, which was my childhood Worms game, and it happened to be on like 80% sale on Steam, so thanks I guess.
Only just starting to watch but wanna say that your last worm video made me fall into the competitive worms rabbit hole and sheesh some people pull off some wild shit. Probably gonna fall into that rabbit hole again at like 3 am when i should be sleeping tonight ty big yellow
Hiya, Big Yellow, I am the guy who subbed to you for 3S and Melee to tell you something important
Both of us
-have ginger hair
-grew up playing Worms
-like fighting games and Pokémon
I've come to the conclusion that you are my evil twin and I must fight you
Drop everything! Big Yellow is talking about something I've never once thought about!
28:55: Possibly, it was intended to be the exit to an underground escape passage, but they just never finished it or forgot about it? Would be pretty neat environmental storytelling on a prisoner camp map of all things, lol. Plus, if they actually made a full underground passage, it'd work for gameplay purposes as well.
big yellow upload quality is always high but it scales with how niche the topic of discussion is
please keep finding the most niche things you can think of and making videos about them, I'll watch every one of them
that's how their jutsu works
It's the same with the Pokemon content they put out tbh, instead of being like "ok so here's stuff about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet" they're like "ok but using Pinsir in red/blue competitive is pretty fucking cool"
RUclips has decided we *need* to watch this Worms 3D video despite having literally never played a Worms game ever before.
...No regrets!
Damn!! this was so relatable - the weird nostalgia for the whole vibe and mechanics of this game, being stuck for ever on "quick fix", the love for the bean stake course, I really didn't expect someone to share all of this. It was one of the first games I ever really got into and played alone and so on!
None of my friends or classmates really dug it back then :D
Genuinely awesome to see you push out into all sorts of new niches with your content lately, I love to see it and it's been a real inspiration.
Great to see Big Yellow talking about great brazillian games such as Mineirinho. I recommend you to try Paraná Runner and Bad Rats to see the prime quality of the Brazillian game dev scenario. Keep up with the great content!
32:22 it's so funny how the worm had the same feeling as what he said in that moment
I REMEMBER THIS FUCLING SHIT AS A KID AND IT FUCKING RUINED MY LIFE BUT I HAD NO ONE, NOOO ONE TO SHARE THIS HORRID PAIN WITH. I SUFFERED IN SILENCE. I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM. BUT FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS. FINALLY I AM FREE.
I fucking love this channel, it feels like proper old-school RUclips, 10/10, want to play Worms now
I loved Worms 3D back in the day, so many fond memories of good laughs playing this. I really loved a lot of the maps like D day, Mighty Kong, Hold Until Relieved, Submission. I'm pretty sure it was one of my first, if not, first PC game I played.
15:20 For some reason, "bro is deceased" just gets me. Wish I knew how to clip that, I'd make it my TF2 kill sound.
Keep up a great work, brilliant video!
3D Worms games were a big part of my childhood, tho I've grown up with Worms 4 which in Poland had a bit of a cult following, it was one of the main games to make machinimas from. Only recently I picked up Ultimate Mayhem and it's literally just 4 with 3D's campaign added in, which is pretty sweet!
Oh man, you just reminded me of those machinimas. I remember my mom telling me to stop watching videos because there was swering _everywhere_ in those Wormashinimas. I think it was "Wormsy Totalnej Porażki" ("Total Drama/Failure Worms")?
Hey just wanted to let you know that Hook, Line and Skimmer is actually a level you can play on in Ultimate Mayhem! I loved playing on that map in that game in multiplayer so I was surprised to see it here!
Love the transitions between levels, just very satisfying idk why. Keep up the good work making weird ass videos!
This was a hit of nostalgia for me. Awesome video, and its really interesting how many maps did not get used for multiplayer. I think the tutorial map was supposed to be a reference to one of the junkyard maps in Worms Armageddon, cause I remember that was my first reaction seeing it playing this game for the first time back when I was a kid, and I always thought because it did not translate well to 3D is why it wasn't kept. I didn't think of the gap or how small the map was overall
So many varied topics and they've all been hella interesting, keep it up you beautiful bastard
For the record, Worms 3D actually IS on Steam, it's just up as its updated rerelease: Worms Ultimate Mayhem!
Runs pretty great and is always cheap!
WUM is a good game in it's own right but it's defo not the same, WUM is a Worms 4 update that just also has the Worms 3D Campaign, but it still uses Worms 4's physics and weapons, which I don't like as much personally
@@BigYellowSilly Fair enough!
One of the best things about your channel is that you can do a video on anything and I'll enjoy it
this game was awesome, it's just so highly underrated, it's not even fair. I remember playing it, when I was 6-7 years old, and several months ago I revisited it again, and it was really enjoyable. Gameplay is solid, visuals is great, sound design and music is freaking nostalgic and awesome (I just really like every piece of it, especially Main Theme music, also every sound and ambient in this game is just so polished and satisfying to hear). Of course, Armageddon is a legend, but W3D will always remain in my heart, because it formed my childhood. Thank you for this great video, it's really good to know, that someone also remember this game =)
you're not alone in your love for this game, me and my brother used play it split screen on the gamecube all the time. it makes sad to know that while the worms franchise lives on, we'll probably never see another 3-D game in the series.
Never played a worms game, let alone Worms3D, but the comfort factor of your Worms3D videos is off the charts
This is becoming the channel of all time, and I'm here for it.
11:27 as a Brazilian I was not expecting you to mention Mineirinho LOL didn't even know there were speedruns of the game before this video. Lovely!
This is a video I didn't know I needed, and I've found myself saying that with every new video of yours I click on. Keep up the quality!
I fricking love the Worms series, so i got damn happy when i saw this video's title. Thanks
EXCEPTIONAL video honestly I LOVE hearing in-depth deep-dives about games I have never played in my life this is so cool to hear about
Also thank you so much, power miners and 3d worms games are two niche topics I obsess over and I cannot believe somebody released videos covering both, love your random content!!
Does you naming your worm Doug Wormer mean I lost No Nostalgia Critic November
I'm afraid so, but there's always Avoid Atop the Fourth Wall August
Big Yellow has the strangest and yet most interesting Variety content on their channel which most people found through Pokemon or Fighting Game content
YT algorithm really knows what I want. I LOVED playing this as a child, best Worms game imo.
I hardly ever comment on YT videos but I've got to say I LOVE random videos like this. I know absolutely nothing about Worms 3D but I love how you explain things!! More random vids plssss
Editing, bumpers mainly, is fucking great this time. I am LIVING for the "bumpers"
ive never played this game. or club penguin. yet i watched both of these videos with as much interest as your RBY videos which was a major interest of mine at some point.
this video just proves i will watch you cover anything, the seriousness with the between a 2 / 3 worms just sealed the deal, this is good content!
30:52 Dang is that Sonic CD's Japanese OST's Tidal Tempest [Past Version]? Deep cut, cool choice
I... I don't even know what this channel is about anymore. From fighting games to pokemon to insaniquarium to goddamn lego crystals. I'm all for it though, keep it up.
I don't know why but I find the way you say "YOU CAN'T ACCESS THE CUBE" absolutely hilarious xD
There's always something extremely nostalgic about those levels that seem to have all these unused or unrealized details and design elements.
Great video. Never played Worms 3D, but I remember the back of the Sonic Heroes manual on GC had an ad for this. Played this shit out of Open Warfare 2 on PSP though. That game was fantastic. The whole franchise is, really.
Also, hit me right in the nostalgia with the Mother 4 music at the end. Nostalgic for a game that will never come out, but I sure as hell remember the music that was uploaded for it.
The idea of a secret unused map in Worms 3d that is based on an abandoned concentration camp on a remote island, with a unique cutscene that shows a worm with PTSD flashbacks and an offhand line that lightheartedly implies some kind of trauma and abuse, sounds like something straight out a creepypasta.
I can also see why it went unused.
Then again, the Worms aesthetic has always had a creepy liminal undertone of horror and isolation. Something about the distorted scales and sizes of objects (from a human/worm pespective.)
I love videos like these. I’ve definitely heard of Worms 3D and have seen gameplay of it but it’s cool seeing the ins and outs of random ass games I’ve never played before.
NUNCA que eu ia imaginar que esse canal ia fazer uma referência ao mineirinho ultra adventures kkkkkk
Holy heck i cannot believe that i not only know Ultra Minur Adventure through that awful gdq run but that i remembered it just before you said it.
Small gaming world i guess
Just wanted to drop a comment saying I love your videos about any topic. You could turn a video about the Koopas' outfits in Super Mario Strikers and I'd click that notification.
wouldn't mind having more worms content on your channel, had quite a few of the 3d games back in the day and I loved checking out the maps and goofing around.
16:40 had a mini heart attack as the bg music is my ring tone. Thought I left my phone in the other room lol
Still the best 3D Worms title for me to this day.
Thanks - now I have nostalgia for a game I have never played
You have the most random topics for videos; I love it, keep it up.
As someone who knows nothing about worms, these campaign levels seem extremely bizarre. Like, actual military planes and boats and then a space ship, a random actual house, and then literally hell??????
Yeah, Worms 3D is pretty wack in terms of level theming.
Lemmings has similarly bizarre level themes. Maybe it's an European thing.
The wild part is the campaign tried to keep a story together with it.
"Yeah so you're in hell now" lol
i love the videos on random stuff its great fr
I REMEBER THEM MENTIONING THIS CIDEO IDEA IN THE STREAM VOD!! I WAS THERE FOR THE FORESHADOWING!!
Glad I can learn some basic Q 3s combos and learn about Worms 3D cut content on the same page! Truly the combination pizza hut taco bell of niche gaming content 🙇🙇🙇🙇
Wake up babe. New 30 minute Big Yellow video about a game I haven’t played in 10 years is up
I’ve never played this game, I don’t think I’ve ever played a Worms game for that matter, however I would like to say that I enjoyed this whole video as always. Keep up the good work :)
so far, your content has been so bizarrely tailored to me and my interests. very much looking forward to future content you might put out :)
Big yellow videos feel like when I let autism win and infodump to my gf abt my interests and I love it (I always let autism win)
finally. a god tier youtube channel
Your videos are so great.
It's just a person incredibly passionate about something sharing it and I love it.
