Yeah, I don’t watch Schaffrillas enough to associate that style with him, but it’s a good idea and something you do masterfully. As did Yellow I think; as someone not familiar with Worms 3D, I had a lot of fun hearing the bites and getting a second to wonder how the mission name was relevant.
Regular Pat does this too, occasionally with a different spin on it. Namely his “Ranking Every Day in 358/2 Days” and “Ranking Every KH Minigame” videos, where every transition soundbyte was a KH line involving the words “ice cream” and “game” respectively.

I find that the strongest missions in the game are the ones that take the advantage of the game being in 3D.
The best missions are the ones that don't seem limited in options or the ones that require more platforming and exploration. Even ideas such as Stealth couldn't really be utilized in the 2D games. It's also worth noting that the best missions actually give you a wider variety of tools so that you can't always rely on the Bazooka...or the oddly OP Prod (due to most of the maps designed to make it very easy to knock enemy worms into the water.) The execution could definitely be better but they're strong ideas at the very least.
Shopper missions for instance are intrinsically more satisfying in 3D because you actually have a wider terrain to explore and thus more options in how to complete it. Not to mention, you actually have to think about the order you do tasks from collecting crates, killing the enemy worm and how to best maneuver about the terrain. The best missions also have you actually think about which enemy worm is going to have a turn next and use that to your advantage.
The worst missions are the ones where you're railroaded into one simple linear goal with little to no variation and not much in the way of strategy. In 2D, you can get away with a basic death match but the 3D games have to go a little more beyond that to really stand out.

This video is a fantastic study on level design.
Worms 3D is my first game I had on a PC (for which I had to wait relatively, so obviously nostalgia has fogged over my memories of it.
But after your analysis I can suddenly very clearly see (from a level designer perspective) the execution is all over the place.
Some missions are cleverly put together, and focus on one or two aspects at once, like:
    - terrain to tell a story/progress the match, like "D-Day"/"A Leek in a Vegetable Patch"
    - removing deep water, so you have to find new ways of dealing with enemies
    - 1v7 to manage hiding spots and chip damage
Then there are ideas that seem forced into the game engine that end up being not articulated very well, but were leniently approved anyway.
There's an attempt to diversify the campaign with platforming/story-telling/crafty missions, so it's not a string of only deathmatches.
Although it's interesting that it seems more missions that strayed away from the classic deathmatch format tend to do poorly here.
Sometimes they want to showcase a cool mechanic and built a mission around it.
Like in 27th - the idea is cool af, but I can see a discussion going like "We could punish the player for property damage, but then it may be too difficult to take out some of these mines, so let's leave it like that"
Sometimes the "plot" takes precedence, but game mechanics are not enough (in some cases even with additional scripting) for the mission.
Like in 31st - while the idea of restoring circuits is neat, placing mines in very precise spots on top of the usual worms mayhem does not pair well and feels convoluted
Or like in 30th - it's unintentional padding in light of jet pack challenges
Sometimes it's not exploring the idea/stage well enough.
Like in 20th - a partial/full stealth option would be awesome to have
Or like in 15th - it's either unoptimized equipment, or npc's indirectly invalidating potential hiding spots
Or like in 34th - just a funny path to traverse. While there's a different type of pressure in water raising in real time, turns out this gimmick isn't that interesting just by itself to justify giving it an entire platforming level. Not even a filler episode.
And then there's just some level/game design hiccups.
The 35th ranking's main sin may be its linearity, there's nothing for the player to figure out. It's more of a game/level design problem, rather than the game's itself.
No fanfare for finishing the campaign.
Although, putting gamedev aside, I'm willing to believe all of this is meant for children's imagination, who will look at all of these as just fun little adventures, no matter how flawed or bland they get.
You get to traverse hell, raid some graves, be parachuter, survive an earthquake, escape punishment for trying a ride and not paying for it, shoot some aliens and go to Valhalla, repair a computer, rescue a pirate and have a brawl in the kitchen.
Given that we are discussing this in such detail today, I'd say that it worked wonderfully.

Ragnarok n Roll being a fantastic, really challenging penultimate mission followed by a rather underwhelming final challenge reminds me of Doom 2, which ends with MAP29 "The Living End", an excellent gauntlet mission putting everything you know about Doom to the test... followed by the Icon Of Sin, Doom 2's only proper boss fight.
It's really more annoying than actually difficult, requiring weirdly precise timing of rocket launchers on an elevator (unless you cheat with vertical aim in modern ports, which i wouldn't blame you for tbh) while completely random enemies harass you.

I've played Worms 3D recently and I generally agree that it's an absolutely charming game that I personally feel has enough of its own identity and spark that I don't think Ultimate Mayhem's version of the campaign captures.
I really need to play through more of the campaign again (I think I ended up stopping at A Quick Fix, which for me is the very bottom despite liking the level's aesthetics.) I vaguely recall liking a lot of your top choices!
Something I've noticed is that the best missions are the ones that rely less on it being a full on gimmick, and use them in smaller ways to add a level of challenge too the battle, e.g. the water rising every 4 turns or 1 Vs Many challenges.
I respect why they used gimmicks the way they did, mostly because Death Matches exist for full Worm Combat, but because it's their first real stab at a 3D title, they had to play it a bit safe.
I think they ended up looking at some of the best missions from 3D for Worms 4 Mayhem's campaign, as a lot of those are more task-based like some of your top picks. Ghost Hill Graveyard from 4 Mayhem is like if you combined the 1 Vs 7 idea from Ragnarok And Roll and the Zombie Worm Spawning from High Stakes.
What did you end up thinking of Worms 4 Mayhem's/Worms Ultimate Mayhem's campaign?
    Excellent video!

As a kid in 2003 with me being barely 14 with limited english knowledge, sometimes I didn't even know what I had to do. Plaice Holder seems simple enough, but I literally didn't know what I was supposed to do after a while. I know I sound stupid, but I just couldn't figure out how to get to the tower's top. I've wasted so much time here I'm ashamed to admit. But I managed to beat the campaign after a long while and I felt satisfied. Though, as you mentioned, no cutscenes or anything after the last mission felt meh. I absolutely agree with your number 1 pick. It's a beautiful and challenging map and it took me quite a few tries to beat it. It's also the map we used to play locally with my friends the most. I have such fond memories playing this game! You know, I played Worms 3D like crazy as a kid and I have amazing memories associated with it! This game is incredibly charming, corny in a good way and it's just a vibe. I also think that the worms' design has never been topped, Mayhem's one was just too goofy and stupid imo. 3D had that perfect balance. So, it's hard to put it as a con, as it's a game designed for kids, but as an adult it's kinda a shame that the missions are in general VERY easy and the campaign just doesn't do as much as it could. I remember that you said once that after completing the game one has tendencies to invent own challenges, start optimizing the missions and so on just to feel something new. I think that's because it's just such a great game and it just leaves you wanting much more from it. The campaign could do much more.
For example, there are so much missions where you just have a bazooka, maybe grenades and not much else. I wish there were missions that focused on very specific subsets of weapons to encourage you to use 'em. One idea would be a mission similar to that Armageddon Lab one where you had to poison enemies or something. The mission could focus on obtaining blowguns and gas grenades to poison enemies whom attacks you'd have to endure, maybe by hiding or using some utilities, waiting for their health to dwindle and only then being able to finish them off. It could be fun, maybe it would be cool if you could gas multiple enemies at the same time, ya know!
Or, a level like Costa Del Danger. The mechanic of launching the mines with a baseball bat is actually really satisfying and I actually like that mission, it's a nice relaxing one. However, imagine how cool it could have been if the plot was changed slightly: An evil gang of enemy worms are placing mines all over the hotel's property and your task is to both get rid of the mines and the evil pranksters. They could be situated in some external islands or boats just like in Hook, Line and Skimmer and your task would be to launch mines into them to kill them. To make it easier it could include a mechanic like in Hook, Line and Skimmer where you just have to hit the general area and it all explodes. It would be so cool! And yeah, it should have contain "no property damage" as a requirement imo.
On top of all that, I wish the campaign was just longer and contained much more difficult levels at the end. I really wish there were more missions like Ragnarok or Beefcake, which forces you to actually think your moves through and create strategy. In a lot of cases you can just go through the level without thinking much. I know it's for kids, but that could have been remedied by including some sort of hard mode, it wouldn't be much work tbh, minimally it could have been done by giving enemies more HP, better AI, limiting your time, weapons and so on. I really wish they did something like that!
I know the ninja rope kinda sucks in this game as it didn't translate well from the 2D versions but still I wish there was some mission with a platforming aspect incorporating it into the gameplay.
There are just a lot of items that are just basically never used like holy hand grenade, sticky bomb, gas, blowgun, the pigeon, cows, granny, red bull, speed booster, mortar, battle axe, uzi, banana bomb, this stuff is cumulatively almost 100% unused in the entire campaign and that sucks imo. Instead in most mission the devs were like "have bazooka, have fun". Like, it works but much more could be done with this arsenal. Also, cluster bomb is ass but there was a lot of potential for it to be included in missions as a way to cause some collateral damage, maybe you'd have to kill a lot of enemies but each had low health and so on.
If you think about it, you can really pull awesome ideas for mission outta ya ass. And therefore I wish they did more to this game, not because it's bad, but because I actually like it so much that it leaves me wanting much more! :D I agree with you that Ragnarok is the only exceptional, actually genius mission in the game. I wish, WISH it wasn't the only one like this. The game has potential for creating intricate strategic missions, shame it went mostly with very simple ones. It's the moment when you criticize the game not for it does wrong but for what it doesn't do having the potential.

It is really telling that the only 2 deathmatch style missions in the bottom 10 is one where you can be randomly screwed over, and one where you even admitted it could be higher. Just let us blow up dudes with a different coloured name plate!

How did they miss putting a mission referencing Ragnarök, the end of a world, at the end of the campaign and put it right before the end? Impressive flub honestly

I feel like the true goal of A Quick Fix would be fun in a different game. Or at the very least, I’ve seen similar rooms in Metroid Prime and Xenosaga Episode II that were at least more fun than this. Doesn’t really gel with Worms gameplay, though.

6:16 If I had a nickel for every glitch in Worms 3D I knew where the devs forgot that the Function Keys select weapons, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
The other nickel being for shooting a shotgun under yourself and picking a weapon to keep it while it's not your turn anymore
