Merino has played 346 games in his club career according to Transfermarkt and only 10 of those 346 games has been as a CAM. He's played 69 games as a DM and the rest as a CM, so I don't know why Robbie is trying to gaslight everyone to think that the guy can play CAM. He's not a CAM and he's never been one for more than a couple of games a season. He's played 7x as many games as a DM than a CAM, so he's definitely more a defensive box-to-box than an attacking box-to-box but that Robbie will never concede on anything negative about this club. He will never criticize the board, he will never criticize the owners and he will never criticize the manager. What a waffler.
Playing with three physical, more defensive midfielders was what cost us yesterday. Also, playing with Trossard as a wing from the start was a shocker. The guy never plays a good game from the start as a winger. He's either a 12th man coming in on the wing or a starting CAM/false 9. That's the only way to play him, he doesn't have the pace and energy to play 90 minutes at the wing, he's got 30 minutes in him coming in as a sub on the wing or he has to start as a CAM/false 9.
The team yesterday from the start should've been:
Raya
White - Saliba - Gabriel - Califiori
Rice/Merino (box-to-box) - Partey/Rice (DM) - Trossard/Nwaneri (CAM)
Sterling - Havertz - Jesus/Martinelli
Instead the manager did everything wrong by using Trossard as the starting LW and Merino as the starting CAM. And after the red card, we should've never have made anything different in terms of subs but just kept the same players on the pitch by just putting Rice in HCB and playing Partey and Merino as a pivot with Trossard as a CAM and Havertz and Sterling up top, so the formation after the red card would've looked like this:
Raya
White - Rice - Gabriel - Califiori
Merino - Partey - Trossard
Sterling - Havertz
We could've still won the game playing like that. Rice has got the pace, the physique, the arial dominance, the defensive abilities and the ball-playing qualities to play as a HCB. It's Bournemouth ffs, it's not bloody Villa or Chelsea away. Both City and Liverpool would've beaten Bournemouth with 10 men from the 30rd minute of the game. Jesus Christ..
Partey could play RB and Ben White center half. We have to attack...it's only Bournemouth. Why are we scared?

The red card for me shouldn't be a problem in any way, after all other teams play with a red & still win convincingly. Then regarding the red either red or yellow is a perfect decision by thr ref. Arsenal has been barely winning games in recent games, so this is now a wake up call, Arteta always like to get a wake up loss, before he begins making more proper or better selection & sub decisions. Reason why we might never win any meaningful trophies with him, even though I super like him, but he needs to stop wanting to prove a point with newly signed players.

Team selection was very poor. There was no need to use 3 holding midfielders they nullify each other. Put the youngster in. Please bare in mind that the earlier games had red cards, and that tends to carry over in all games on the day

Robbie is thinking long term. His point with 10 men is not based on a single game but the expected results across an entire season.
If you were to simulate 38 games an Arsenal 10 vs a Southampton 11 you would only expect Arsenal to win say 30% of the time whereas if it were 11 vs 11 you'd probably say 95% Arsenal win. This is his point, the season is not determined by a single game. It is a 38 game marathon. If Arsenal keep going down to 10 men on a continuous basis then they will naturally lose/draw more games over the course of the season.
I do get the arrogant feel from a lot of fans of the big 6 that even with 10 men they think their team can just steamroll any of the middle/lower clubs in the league. Don't underestimate us we can compete against you and give tough games in a 11 vs 11 scenario. If you choose to go down to 10 men prepare to get slapped
What was the point of playing 2 DM's and an 8. Who's going to shoulder creativity in the midfield. Why take off sterling for kiwior when we had 65 min left. Sterling and Martinelli (regardless of their finishing) provide us with the best attacking outlet, solely due to their pace. Yet, sterling gets taken off whilst trossard gets to stay on the pitch. This is on arteta for most part. Rubbish lineup and horrible in-game management.

The Liverpool one yesterday is not a red card because it was in their own half still. Stop trying to stir it up.
Trossard and Kiwior back passing rather than holding the ball and trying to turn, is what small players do at smaller teams.
VAR can ask the Ref to look at the play even if the Ref aready issued a yellow card - if they think the Ref might have made a mistake and the card could be red.
If Nwaneri played more minutes against Leicester and Southhampton then he could start agaisnt Bournemouth and the match would have been much more interesting from our perspective to watch, win or loss. Arteta might be right with Merino just like Raya but it probably cost us the match and 8 match in we already dropped 7 points. At this rate Liverpool better chance to win the league than us

Salaba red card was never a red card period!! The VAR rereferring the game is inconsistent. The referee saw the whole incident in real time and his vision was not obstructed in any shape or form. The referee made an on field decision base on his judgment of real time analysis of the situation. But for the VAR to intervene and force the referee to change his decision is rereferring the game. We know Arsenal is referee differently!!!
