      Get rid of the "clear and obvious" nonsense, and get rid of this idea that refs need to "manage the game". Their job is to simply enforce the rules, nothing else. If it means 5 red cards, so be it.

    The main issue I have at the moment is “mate” - Webb kept saying don’t want to throw Mate under the bus. Other ex refs have said didn’t want to overturn at VAR due to mate.
    VAR needs to have specialists that are just VAR and not connected to the refs on the field

    • @LAndrewNext
      @LAndrewNext 2 месяца назад +9

      100%. They need to make an independent decision.
      In the instance it's a penalty call that the ref missed, they need to call the ref over to review, the ref will still have the ultimate power to overturn var

    • @darraghoconnor9072

    Making referees more relatable is definitely a move forward! Admitting mistakes, recognising mistakes will happen, and explaining how rules are applied. Especially the yellow card difference in Rice/Trossard vs Szoboszlai occasions. Not everyone will agree, but the explanation needs to be given. In a relatable, simple way. 💯

    Ex players saying “we don’t want to see yellow/red cards for kicking the ball away”, but for once Howard’s got it right with “just don’t kick the ball away”.
    Also more need to be done with goalkeeper time wasting. I disagree with Howard’s viewpoint of ‘judge the decisions by the time within the game”. If a team are time wasting from the first minute to try and get a draw or steal a win then they should be cautioned for it. Goalkeeper wasting time in the 10th minute is the same as time wasting in the 88th minute. Yet it’s never cautioned early on.
