Hola 🙂 love your channel! I'm almost done with my MSW, and I had an Assistant Director from a university reach out to me for a Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusive training position. I would love to do that, but I haven't explicitly given training in that area, and I have been doubting myself a lot. I would love to do that position because of my social work background. Any tips on how would you reframe your MSW experience into a job like that? Thank you so much for all that you do. You are such an inspiration in the social work field.
Awesomeness! If they reached out to you, they must already believe you would be a good fit! So now, I think you just have to believe in yourself a bit more! Your skills have prepared you well! Most specific skills are learned on the job anyhow. In the video, I mentioned skills that we have as social workers that we can leverage for these positions. Cultural competency, leading groups, planning programs, social justice, etc. So I hope that can help!
Case management starting picking up as well..As a medical case manager without my LCSW i make 72k plus bonuses..it’s making me rethink getting my MSW and LCSW 🤷🏾♀️ then again i have the experience…
Getting your LCSW can be really difficult, depending on which state you live in. Also, in order to be able to have a private practice, you really need to get on insurance panels so that you can accept insurance and that, is exceptionally hard. Then after all that work, you're insulted to receive the average amount of reimbursement that social workers make from insurance. Most people who seek therapy, don't really want to pay 125.00/ hour for therapy, out of pocket.
I understand it’s a challenge, but worthwhile pursuits often are. People are still doing it successfully every day. I’m in many social work groups and know hundreds of people who have successfully gotten their LCSW and went into private practice, doing well for themselves.
Another great video! I’ve been doing preliminary research before I graduate on Indeed for corporate social responsibility like jobs. I’m not seeing many results produce. Is there a season (e.g. spring to summer) where job turnover / openings is most high? I’m not sure if I’m searching the wrong key words and/or looking in the wrong places. My program does not place emphasis on job searching until the last semester so I’m navigating this on my own. Lastly, can you make a video on landing a Corp. social responsibility job as an entry level? Many positions want 5 years experience minimum. Thanks 💕
Hello Loretta, it does depend on your location, but there isn't really one hiring season. Try keywords such as "program consultant" "Community engagement manager" "corporate volunteer engagement" or "community program manager" "philanthropy"...And start taking notes of titles that you find when you research, because all of these jobs may not be called "corporate social responsibility manager". Companies can get pretty creative with titles, which makes it a little difficult to find these roles.

I am a Mental Health Counsellor In Canada and make good money. I do not know about the states, but in Canada the addictions and mental health sector is getting alot of funding. its showing alot of growth, as there so many mental health issues.
Good morning!! It's December 3, 2024, and I just recently discovered that hospitals and nursing homes/rehabilitation facilities have dropped their requirements of an MSW to be employed with them. I live in North Carolina.
As someone who is thinking of going back to school for SW, are all SW degrees going to qualify me for the jobs you listed in this video? Does a SW degree have to be specialized? I'd like to get a degree that will give me a lot of different options.
i recently started my BSW with really high hopes like super excited, but its hard for me to receive negative comments from other when i tell them with excitement what im studying. im a second generation immigrant. its really hard to hear people tell my mom that im studying in a bad program, as much as my mom tried to be supportive for me i tend to focus in the negative feedback from others. someone even told my mom to get me married cuz that has more value than the education im pursuing.my mom never got the chance to study in university and become financially independent so she raised me to pursue what she couldnt. its come to a point where i cant get myself to focus on school. i feel worthless. society doesnt value the work I want to do, which is really upsetting. i want to prove those people wrong but i feel so weak against the stigma thats been created. not sure why i wrote all of this in the first place, but it felt right.
Hi Elmas. Social Work is not a useless degree. You gain so much knowledge and insight about human behavior and their relationship with society and culture that is easily adaptable in multiple areas. You also develop skills that can help you solve your own problems, your family's problems, or other people's problems. I think people get stuck on the idea of a child welfare worker who is working crazy hours and dealing with so many different cases while getting paid a terrible wage. However, its important for people to know they don't have to stay stagnant in the same position for the rest of their career. They just need to stay long enough to develop the skills they need to move on to something better. Finish your degree. Also talk with your adviser/professors to learn about career possibilities. Finally, if possible, dont fall too deeply into debt to get your degree. Do what you have to do to finish but, if you can, avoid debt. Good luck.
Where have you been all my life!! I am going into my junior undergrad and I'm pretty set on macro work. I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to do, but I love the corporate social work or policy analyst route ideas. My question is, would I have to start out micro/mezzo to ultimately get to the macro level? I know social work is for me but the idea of case management drives me away completely. Is there anything I could be doing as an undergrad to get my foot in the door of macro work? Pretty much all my courses are generalist and micro focused.
Great video as always ❤️ and yes just by researching and thinking outside the box social workers make a decent amount and of course with time and experience The Sky is limit 🙏
Great video! I am really excited about making career in this field ,I can speak couple of more languages, but I do not know how to go about it, I do not have any degree in this field.if you can suggest how to obtain license with some short courses if available that will be great ..Thank you
A medical social worker is usually someone that works in the medical field or hospital field in some way. However, clinical social work usually refers to some sort of direct service work or therapeutic work in any area, leading up to an independent license. A clinical social worker does not have to work in a medical setting
So, they all fall under the same qualification. The medical/clinical is based in the hospital whereas the Psychiatric is for Mental health. It doesn’t mean they have the same knowledge or roles that doctors or nurses do, but they step in supporting the wellbeing of those individuals. For instance, a Psychiatric Social worker could help organise housing for an individual suffering from mental illness after they leave a psychiatric hospital. They could also arrange for support workers or care/support workers that could help them live more independently. In some cases like the UK 🇬🇧, Social workers do assessments to determine whether an individual has mental capacity or not (which means an assessment that determines whether an individual is suffering from a mental illness that requires intervention and support). Having said that, anyone with a Social work degree can decide to do whatever they want in Social work, and they can change if they want to as well. It’s all the same area of work. It just depends on what area in Social work you’re interested in and decide to work in.
Thanks Gabby. This is very helpful. Would you please let me know what are the scopes of higher studies for someone with an MSW degree in the US? Is there any doctorate programme in this discipline?
Besides informational interviews and watching RUclips videos how do I decide on my niche? I graduated with my BSW in May. I just started working with children with Autism and I like it so far though it is challenging. I can’t decide between hospital social work and school social work. :/
Thank you so much for the great video. Would you mind telling me about the programs that offers life coaches and career coaches? I truly appreciate your help.

You need to have had a semester long internship in the school system. Depending on your state, you might also be required to have school social work certification.
Thank you for sharing this video. Unfortunately whilst there are high paying roles within the career it’s still massively underpays. I was reading an article which highlighted that as it was dominated by women organically the amount paid would be less due to gender pay gaps etc. I think most people get into social work as they want to make a real difference. However forgetting it is still a profession & they may have aspirations/ goals themselves. Great tips
Great points. I just want to say that I dont know any LCSW making less than 70k a year. Many that I know are now making 100k a year. The license makes a huge difference.

As a current MSW student, thank you thank you thank you!!
Awesome! You are welcome.
Thank you so much for this ❤️
No problem!
Good information, thanks for sharing
Can you elaborate the differences between Corporate Social Responsibility and Diversity and Inclusion Consultants? They kind of sound the same
Excellent video
Between Social work in the community and Social work in health care which one is better ?
Great video as always ❤️ and yes just by researching and thinking outside the box social workers make a decent amount and of course with time and experience
The Sky is limit 🙏
Yes! This is so very true. We don't have to limit ourselves to just traditional roles, either.
Great video! I am really excited about making career in this field ,I can speak couple of more languages, but I do not know how to go about it, I do not have any degree in this field.if you can suggest how to obtain license with some short courses if available that will be great ..Thank you
What’s the difference between Medical&Psychiatric Social Work and Clinical Social Work?
It would be of great help, thanks! :)
It just depends on what area in Social work you’re interested in and decide to work in.
thank you for this great information video sharing here sister

Would you please let me know what are the scopes of higher studies for someone with an MSW degree in the US? Is there any doctorate programme in this discipline?
Thank you for watching! Yes, In the US you can get both a PhD and a doctorate in social work. I have a video on that, so check it out!
Besides informational interviews and watching RUclips videos how do I decide on my niche? I graduated with my BSW in May. I just started working with children with Autism and I like it so far though it is challenging.
I can’t decide between hospital social work and school social work. :/
Hello! I have other videos focused on finding your niche so make sure to check those out :) and congrats on your new role!
Watched til the end :)
Thank you !
Thank you so much for the great video. Would you mind telling me about the programs that offers life coaches and career coaches? I truly appreciate your help.
You are welcome! Many program offer it. So a good place to start Is the ICF website (international coach federation). Best!

Does one need anything specific (other than bsw/msw) to become a school social worker? I mean like, any form of educational certifications, etc?
You need to have had a semester long internship in the school system. Depending on your state, you might also be required to have school social work certification.
Gabby what kind of places can i begin to apply for work as after receiving my Certificate in Social Work and Social Psychology? two more months
Can you give helpful information on how to choose an online school to pursue a Masters in Social Work?
Thank you for sharing this video. Unfortunately whilst there are high paying roles within the career it’s still massively underpays. I was reading an article which highlighted that as it was dominated by women organically the amount paid would be less due to gender pay gaps etc.
I think most people get into social work as they want to make a real difference. However forgetting it is still a profession & they may have aspirations/ goals themselves.
Great tips
Great points. I just want to say that I dont know any LCSW making less than 70k a year. Many that I know are now making 100k a year. The license makes a huge difference.
