WrestleMania III was one of the WWF's biggest success stories of the 80s. Headlined by "The Irresistible Force" meeting "The Immovable Object", Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant were able to generate an incredible amount of money through their WrestleMania main event. It made sense then for Vince McMahon to keep the Hogan vs Andre feud going throughout most of 1987.
Hogan and Andre would captain teams at the inaugural Survivor Series event of 1987 and the two would run into eachother quite a few times on Saturday Night's Main Event. It was decided then that Andre The Giant would get a WWF title rematch at the very first "The Main Event" show presented by the WWF. The unthinkable happened here when Hulk Hogan's 4 year WWF championship run came to an end. Due to the circumstances surrounding the match finish, a tournament was held at WrestleMania IV to crown a new champion.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at Hulk Hogan's journey from WrestleMania 3 all the way to WrestleMania 4. Topics covered include:
01:57 - Survivor Series 87 vs Starrcade 87
04:12 - Hogan's Saturday Night's Main Event title defense against King Kong Bundy
07:02 - The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase tries to buy the WWF Title
09:10 - Hulk Hogan loses the WWF Championship at The Main Event
12:29 - The WrestleMania IV WWF Championship Tournament
16:33 - Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan join forces
- Much More!

If you weren't a kid in the 80s you'll never understand how amazing Saturday Night's Main Event was. The whole country was watching. What a great time to be young.
Agreed
Totally agree. When I was a kid, I was allowed to stay up to watch it.
I remember being a kid doing everything I could to stay awake and watch it lol
also, if you werent a kid in the 80s you cant comprehend just how big Hulkamania really was
@@kerpal321 so true
The winged eagle title looks so much more prestigious then the top titles in WWE today.
I think Flairs Big Gold in the 80s looked much more prestigious then the Winged Eagle. I wish WWE had that idea for the Big Gold back then. Not that I dont think the Eagle is sweet...it is!
No cap.
@@marcf905
Two of the best looking titles in professional wrestling history. Big Gold and Winged Eagle.
Agreed the winged eagle was the best even the mk2 version (strong cold version)
Joie Kelly the championships were so unique back in the day. The straps all look the same now. I hate that.
Bam Bam Bigelow was underrated, great big man wrestler.
Absolutely
💯
And Vader as well as boss man
Pity he never got the push he deserved.
@@davidquinn7822 Although Vader was stiff as hell. Bigelow was apparently very gentle with his opponents.
Legend has it that Hogan is still standing in the Wrestlemania IV ring celebrating.
The Hogan vs Andre match on the Main Event was one of the most shocking things I had seen in my 8 years of life to that point. When The match was over I just stood motionless in disbelief. Hulk was a super hero in my eyes, who no matter how the chips were stacked against him, would always prevail. I remember not being able to sleep that night, and asking my dad why don’t they give Hogan back the belt because he didn’t lose it. Andre and the Million Dollar Man cheated! How I miss 80’s wrestling and storylines.
Yup. I remember being shocked too.
The best thing an early 90's kid can relate this to is when Backlund won the title off Bret. Obviously not the same historic feud or characters but still incredibly shocking
At school the next Monday my teacher was so mad and pissed off. It was a discussion of my grade 7 class!
Yeah man that affected me to my core 😂 sounds ridiculous now that a wrestling match could do that but only people who lived through that time can understand
"There are TWO DAVE HEBNERS!!!" - Jesse The Body Ventura
DiBiase deserved an official championship reign. Also, Vince really under rated Savage. He didn't need Hogan to carry him. He had Elizabeth 🤷🏻♂️
But WWF made a big risk to having a title change like that
He didn't 'underrate' Savage...he saw the returns or lack thereof during the first few months of his reign as Hogan was off filming No Holds Barred.
Andre was the Best at that tripping people up and getting tied up in the Ropes lol
Theme still shoots electricity through me brothers!
00:14 and all I can think about is Wrestlemania The Arcade Game....
Real American? It will never age. Regardless of terry bollea, when that song hits, we all remember what we believed in
When Ventura said “I’m glad Dave Hebner is referring the match” at the beginning of The Main Event... that was good forshadowing.
This is getting a preemptive like. I know the content will deliver.
It always does. It never doesn't.
Agreed!
The video gets a serious like for the casual leg grab. so smooth and clean. andre was so sleazy there. so cool to see
@@RoKKr023i
I haven't seen it in years, and forgotten how funny it is.
I had to skip back several times to re watch 🤣
I never realised Bam Bam Bigalow was in the WWE in the late 80s as I remember him more in the 90s - you learn something new everyday lol
As a fat kid growing up in the eighties he was my favorite then they killed his push for some reason
Oh, I've been knowing about that since I was a kid.
@@brandonpage7087 I only really started watching Wrestling - via pirated VHS for the live PPV as I didn't have Sky tv around 1991-92 So the whole 80s era was alien to me at that time lol as it was only PPV I watched and used to love the breakdown of what lead to the feud between the wrestlers. Simpler times as a young 13 year old lol
@@RisingRecluse They killed his push because he wasn't Hogan
@@SpiralPoliFemboy I was just reading up on him. His initial push caused heat in the locker room, Andre worked him stiff in his final match and he was having knee injuries.
Ted Dibiase was the original "Mr. Money in the Bank", before it became a thing. No disrespect to Edge though.
Nah, technically Hulk Hogan is at WrestleMania 9
I was there at the survivor series. Great show.. was 12yrs old.
Hogan must have been going for the Rick James look with the headband
Can't wait for that Mega Powers video.
I love this era of wrestling. I was kid when the Main event took place with Hulk and Andre. I can't tell you how big a deal it was at school.
Greatest era of wrestling ever. Just before my time sadly, but I can watch these old matches any time
Quick info:
Bab Bam said in his interview (2 hour long or something like that) Vince wanted to strap a rocket to his back, but that would mean a too tight of a schedule and Bam Bam refused it, claiming he is not a robot and cannot do all that Vince would demand off him.
I was a kid in the 1980s and it was such a special time. Memories.
I was in attendance at the Saturday Night's Main Event where Bundy beat Hogan by count out. It was also one of the only televised one on one matches of Bret Hart vs Randy Savage. I was 8 years old and remember all of this vividly. Oh Nostalgia :)
Brett Hart vs Randy Savage is one of the greatest matches there could ever be. Two of the greatests of all time!
I love Savage and Hogan and as kid watching WM IV I had no issues with how Savage won the title. He still won an unprecedented 4 matches in one night.
It was really supposed to be Ricky The Dragon Steamboat against Ted Debiose but because Vince screwed him over they had to come up with something quick!
@Interscope100 Not 100% true. Honky Tonk refused to drop IC belt to Savage so they gave him World Belt instead. Either way 1 of them was going to miss out on belt due to honky
At SS87, I love how the ring post nearly snaps and the ring moves about 50 feet everytime Gang is whipped to the buckle! Its brutal!!!
Million Dollar Man Vs Savage was a really good match, especially given the work Savage in particular had already done that night. I love a good one night tournament, you just don't get them anymore.
BRING BACK A PROPER KING OF THE RING!!!
In my fantasy booking I have Steamboat beating The Hammer to get a rematch in the middle of the tournament leading to the best of three Savage vs Steamboat down the line.
@@RisingRecluse what a title bout that would have been.
Savage was the only man to have wrestled 4 times that night, and his last 2 opponents had byes in the previous rounds, meaning they were more rested. Randy Savage, the Iron Man of Wrestlemania 4.
It is a pity that the crowd in Atlantic City were so cold throughout most of the match, only getting into it when Liz brought Hogan back out (understandable as after 4 hours they were probably champing at the bit to go home)
Mate, the effort you go through to produce quality informative vids is amazing. You’re keeping people sane during these crazy time!!
It tells me something about how little I know about old-school wrestling that I just realised that Andre The Giant was the big guy from Princess Bride.
André "lost" at WM3 so he could go & do that film! ✍🏾
I was born in early-1989 & didn't see 'WWF WrestleMania 4' from beginning to end until sometime in the mid-1990's when it was already out on VHS.
I watched it with a friend of mine when we were both in the 2nd grade, I believe...
My friend is a big pro wrestling fan & he was born on what would've been the 1-year anniversary of 'WWF WrestleMania 4' & that's why it's so easy for me to remember when this event took place & when my friend's birthday is, respectively.
Can’t wait for the Mega Powers episode. These are very well done.
I always refer to the Eagle as the real heavy weight title for life! Can't wait for the Wrestlemania 5 video. Really takes me back to being a kid and feuding with my friends who loved the Macho Man.
Such an amazing story line. Can’t beat 80s WWF.
I was ecstatic when Hogan and Andre were double DQ'd. It meant that someone other than Hogan would FINALLY be the champ.
Oh wow! Please tell you were an 80s kid. Finding someone that didn't like Hogan as a wrestling fan seems impossible.
Bam Bam Bigelow was a favorite of mine as a kid, same with Razor untill i got stuck on dx stone cold and the rock
You bring up topics that they would only shed light on for like 2 minutes in a documentary
One of the greatest long term storylines in wrestling history is The Macho Man/Miss Elizabeth storyline which included legendary co stars like Hulk Hogan and Sensational Sherrie. It had everything you want in wrestling.
This took place when I was six years old. Even though I was a Hulkamaniac, I really thought Bam Bam was about to become the next big star after lasting longer than all of his teammates.
Maybe hogan killed his push
@@raphaelmorrata8905 strong possibility..
@@JoshRandall187 Hogan ruins everyone's push.
@@SpiralPoliFemboy not really
Hogan was ALWAYS booked as a heel during his face run. He was whiny, he cheated, he used moves like eye pokes and rakes, he used weapons. Bobby Heenan was always correct about him. And so when he turned heel with the NWO he just kept doing the exact same stuff. People talk about Steve Austin being the first big anti-hero face but Hogan was doing that stuff years before.
When Hogan screamed "HEEELLL NOOOOO!!!!" to Dibiase's offer, it was such a pop man. Also, how maniacal Dibiase was when he cackled about how he was going to "BUY the WWF title, lock, stock, and barrel!" And lastly, when the announce the contract with Andre, and Andre flubs his line saying, "The World World Wrestling Federation" instead of the World Wrestling Federation title. Ha.
These Hogan videos put asses in seats, Brother!! 💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥🔥
I believe at the Main Event in Feb '88, Hogan cut a pretaped promo with his classic '86 belt, then when he heads to the ring, he's wearing the eagle belt we all love.
Was about to turn 6 when the evil refs happened. I remember my dad jumping up down excited because Hogan finally lost and Andre, his favorite WWF guy, had won the title. Then it was ruined when Andre gave it to Ted. He was pissed about DiBiase's gimmick anyway, because he was magically now a millionaire. "What, did he hide the millions in his black glove in Mid-South?", he would joke. I miss my dad.
A dad who can make that joke IS awesome ! :)
Your dad sounded like a funny guy 😂
Bam Bam was bragging back stage about getting a BIG push. It annoyed a lot of people, they then complained and it never happened.
Always look forward to these notifications...
Same here
My great aunt had me to talk to my little cousin when Hogan turned heel in 96. It absolutely crushed him. His entire room was red and yellow….it became black and white😂😂😂
Funny how Earl was also reffing the Montreal screw job with Bret and Shawn🤔
Another great video mate
Lol he was the ref for all the big matches/main events
Damn, that Hogan '86 championship belt is gorgeous! Awesome video, as usual, Sir. ✌️
I can hear it now "Let me tell ya something mean Gene Nobody gets one over on the almighty hulkster brother"
I just watched the WM3 one and now this one. Great work documenting everything that led up to all of this. I was an 7th-8th grade absolute fanatic of both WWF & NWA and bought every magazine in existence with my paper route and lawn mowing money, and rented every VHS video I could to learn the prior history from the early 80s. Whether it was Koloff giving Crockett the Sickle, or seeing Windahm and Rotounda as a WWF Tag Team, or Flair riding the chopper to Starcade, it was all so great.
9:14-I turned on this Main Event due to your vid! Its very good! I LOVED when Hogan calls Dibiase “Multi-Million Dollar Man”!
I rarely comment but always watch your videos. Just wanted to say you do a great job with these videos and to keep up the good work. That is all.
Man you pump these out at an amazing pace, easily my favorite wrestling RUclips channels now, cheers
just binge watching these hulk hogan videos great stuff thanks for all you put into these videos
I follow multiple wrestling channels and enjoy most of their content but yours is by far best, especially during quarantine
and I always look forward to your next video. Keep up the good work
I find myself watching yours videos during this UK lockdown. I dnt watch wrestling anymore but I still have a love for it. Thank you 🙏🏿 keep up the good work.
This video really takes me back, as I remember most of this going down. What a fun time to watch the WWF.
Great video across the board! It was a good trip down memory lane.
This content is outstanding. I love your stuff. Much love
Hogan always wanted to in Savage spotlight
Really great video :-) thank you for uploading, Wrestlemania 4 is an epic show, I was not a real fan of the tournament but it has become a cult classic 👍
After losing the title at The Main Event, Hulk's "Plastic surgery" speech was incredible!
BamBam was so over at this time. I honestly thought the WM Tournament was created as an excuse to have a Good guy vs Good guy finals of Hulk vs. BamBam.
The madness and the mania love it
Good video and lots of memories when I was young.I look forward to your Mega Powers video!
So many Videos in the last weeks. Thx 👌
Recommendation - Could you link the previous videos in the description, just to make them easier to find. My Dad is useless at trying to navigate RUclips.
PS - Your content is excellent, I'm really enjoying this series, keep up the great work 👍
I remember watching this when it happened. When Hogan lost I gasped.
I feel like the WWF should have gave Bam Bam Bigelow either an IC title or tag team title run at some point. He was always over and could work pretty damn well for a guy of his size.
Such a good channel I love watching these videos please keep them coming!!
Great way to start my day with a new wrestling bios video
Awww no mention of the magical switch of belts from his interview to his entrance 😁
I'm really looking forward to the MegaPowers video!!! Thanks!
As always thank you for great content
Once again mate top vid. Enjoy seeing ya channel grow, keep them coming brotttttttther! 🤙

Fun fact about the whole Andre/Hulk/Dibiase vacated-title thing....Ted Dibiase actually worked a few house shows with the title in his possession, and was billed as champion. I guess it makes "kayfabe sense" if those were before Jack Tunney made his announcement that the title was going to be vacated, but I don't know if that was how it went.
Man,Andre choking Hogan out scared the bejesus outta me
I've always liked Hogan, no matter what people say. He's just always had this charm as both a face and a heel.
I throughly enjoyed that video!
Whether it was wwf, or wcw, then later Lucha, ECW and Japanese stuff, nothing can beat 80s and 90s Wreslting...
Hulk is Huge
For real
love your video bro
Jeeze I love your videos man!
“Fallen Compadre” lol 👍🏻
I was thinking about this the other day, but when I first got into wrestling I knew who Hulk Hogan was, but at that point in time I had never really watched him wrestle. I mainly knew him from pop culture references, TV spots, Rocky III, Suburban Commando, that kind of thing. Have you ever considered a video looking at wrestlers in pop culture? I know you have touched upon it during a lot of individual episodes, but I think it would be cool to look at. I wonder how many wrestling fans are like myself, and I wonder how effective marketing outside of wrestling draws in fans. Okay, now to start the video. Haha thanks as always.
I've always been a HUGE fan of Pro wrestling i like to to hear people's opinions about wrestling that are NOT fans at all.
These days its John Cena and obviously the Rock but I'll give cena that he has made a big impact
I watched him before wwe i was in the independent seen at the time setting up rings. But anyways im going off subject
Difrent Styles Music - Topic I really wonder how many wrestling fans were influenced by Cena and the Rock the same way that I was influenced by Hulk. I mean I was maybe between 6-8 when I first started to even become aware of wrestling. My older brother would watch sometimes, but when I saw Hulk in Rocky III and Suburban Commando, I started becoming more interested. When I watch the Wrestling Bios videos, I always think it’s interesting the way that Vince and the WWE marketed matches both inside and outside the ring.
Excellent video welldone
I remember the first Survivor Series i was watching it through the static being it was paid per view but was able to hear a lot of it and catch a glimpse every now and again lol
Fantastic video can't wait for mega powers explode one.great times to be a wrestling fan 80s.
12:12-In the post match interview, Hulk Hogan says “How much money did they spend on the plastic surgery.” It is so comical!
But he was never look himself with the belt
I miss everything about World Wrestling Federation!
From the Coliseum Videos, to the Interviews, Managers, and Weekend Reports from previous matches.
Even the PROMOS were worth watching!
Also have that WINGED EAGLE BELT.
It's only a REPLICA but good enough!
Loving your vids dude...Loving your opening intro tune
maybe one day, you could do a feature length Hogan vid, like you did with your Bret Hart Retro...
Anyway keep up the good work mate...
Loved the Mega Powers
