Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of Ultimate Warrior in WCW
In the late 80s and early 90s, The Ultimate Warrior became a household name in the world of entertainment. When we consider popularity and fan support, The Ultimate Warrior ranked high along with the big names of the WWF such as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage. Due to a multitude of issues, the Warrior was released from the WWF numerous times, and in 1998, Jim Hellwig decided to join World Championship Wrestling.
Making a record amount of money for a small amount of dates, The Warrior's WCW contract was very lucrative and attractive. Warrior would only be working in 3 matches, 2 of which were on pay per view and another on WCW Nitro. His match with Hollywood Hulk Hogan at WCW Halloween Havoc 1998 is probably the most memorable though, however it was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at the complete Ultimate Warrior WCW run. Topics and moments covered include:
02:46 - Vince McMahon tries to bring Ultimate Warrior back in 1997
04:34 - The Ultimate Warrior WCW debut promo
09:45 - Ultimate Warrior on WCW Nitro leading up to Fall Brawl 1998
11:15 - Team WCW vs Team Hollywood vs Team Wolfpac at Fall Brawl 1998
12:44 - The Disciple joins the One Warrior Nation
15:30 - Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and The Mirror
16:37 - The Blade Runners reunite to wrestle Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart
18:39 - Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior at Halloween Havoc 1998
    - Much More

I rewatched this 3 times and cannot find a single reason for demonetizing it. The only possible thing that I could even consider RUclips could try to have problems with is the fact that Warrior's entrance music is similar to the real thing, but that has nothing to do with their reasoning of language guidelines or whatever. Oh well, GREAT VIDEO, keep it up brother, and hopefully THE MAN stops screwing with you!

I was recently at a Brazilian jiu jitsu tournament with solid production. Guys had walkout songs for their first matches. A guy came out the Ultimate Warrior theme and tried to do it right. He came sprinting out to the mat, made it up 2 of the 3 stairs leading up to it, and tripped on the last one face planting the mat.
There was something hysterically comical about him shamefully walking to his starting position while the Warrior theme was still blaring.

I watched lots of wrestling as a kid but moved on in my teens. As a young adult, I had a look at modern wrestling as a curiosity to see if it still entertained me. And I noticed there was very little wrestling. It felt like I watched half an hour without any actual wrestling match taking place. Just this in ring drama, where some meat head would rant on in the microphone. Then it cut to some promo. Then we saw some back stage drama unfold. It was like some soap opera. I was a huge Ultimate Warrior fan as a kid, but if I saw him shouting into the microphone for 15 minutes, I honestly don't think I'd have had the patience to keep watching.

I had heard (from friends who read a lot online & did a sports show) that Warrior was supposed to do something like 13 appearances. At the time, I had counted that it didn't get to 13 or whatever number it was. His last appearance was the day after Halloween Havoc and he told Hogan "you failed the challenge," cause Hogan cheated to win at the PPV.
Jesse Ventura had just won the governor election, and Hogan's next promo became saying he was running for president.
To me, it seems WCW just being WCW and not finishing a fued right. Cause a 3rd match would have made sense.

  • @azapro911

Warrior was trying to do 1988 WWF in 1998 WCW, even Hogan had managed to move his gimmick on.

    • @CurlyFromTheSwirly
      @CurlyFromTheSwirly 11 месяцев назад

      Hogan didn't move his gimmick.
Bishof came up with the great idea to have him go heel.
Luckily, Hogan did go along with it.
(Then it would been Sting and probably bored not as cool.)
However, Hogan would have loved to stay the hero for his entire career.
      And rhen...
WCW reverted and and made Hogan face again. (Quite lame!)
If Hogan cared, or had a clue, he would have said that doesn't work brother.
As far as Warrior, he was just doing as told. I'm not down with the theory that WCW just copied WWF, but I will say that WCW didn't know how to evolve.

Warrior did not run back to the ring. The Renegade was the decoy Warrior. Once he disappeared, the real deal then came to the ring. Also, he had a torn bicep that he suffered during War Games. He had bandages during the tag match with Sting. The duster (jacket) was kept on to cover it. He also said that Hogan didn't want to go over the match ahead of time.

I didn't know McMahon offered Warrior a contract in 1997. It looked like it was a good deal with very generous merchandising percentages. It would've been the better long term deal and better deal overall. But we all know Warrior. He wants as much money as he can get in as short a time possible so he took the WCW deal.
