This is one of his more egregious political moves. I was happy Shawn oversold to such a comical level. That's still one of my fav matches to watch.
I wasn't a big orton fan at the time but "come on...brother". Hulkster should've put Orton over on his way out. Even if he didn't know it was his last, he certainly knew the tank was running dry.

It just makes me laugh when people try to go in on Bret when he literally made every other guy on the roster, even guys first on the card, look better than they actually were, while continuing to blow smoke up Hogan's arse no matter how much evidence you can reel off on a relay for not putting guys over and being a clear mark for himself. The guy can just do no wrong in some people's eyes.
Bret produced some of the most memorable matches on events that were overall lacklustre and distinctly average, yet his reward was always being a placeholder for the WWF title to give to someone else less talented.
I just don't understand the mentality of some fans, the cognitive dissonance is real.

Like Orton was just thrown into this feud and he should of won. He bounced back sure being in Team Rated RKO but that wouldnt start for another two months after this match at Summerslam.
Apparently this wasnt going to be Hogan's last match for the WWE with the original plans for the Battle of the Billionaires at Wrestlemania 23 was going to be Hogan representing Trump vs Big Show representing McMahon. @meloeasy I would say that Takers career was independent from hogan for the most part. Taker really became a top star with Hogan out of the picture.
And with the streak, he wins at mania (except against roman and Brock), but often loses at other ppvs. And when he does go over, it's often against already established wrestlers. Newer talent, like Orton, early Brock, early Kane all defeated him at other ppvs in order to build a meaningful story. Hell even people like maven had some moments with him to bolster their credibility. Bc I think Taker understands that putting young talent over is how the business continues. Hogan did it to some extent, but here he should've lost brother. Why should he have won brother?

When you think about it, the RKO was protected more than 99% of other moves, when Hogan is involved. There was a very long pause between the move and the cover, AND Hogan just put his foot on the ropes, instead of the usual power kickout/Hulk up. That was kind of huge in its own way!
