+terrapanda Lol!! I can't stop laughing actually. He's practically throwing himself around the stage and looks as high as a kite! I'd never seen this performance before and it's cracking me up! :D
do you like cocaine? excessive alcohol? death? hell? its fun at first but it will turn you into an animal and not into the dignified creature God created you to be. But if you are not of God you will laugh at me. Why? because you are of the devil. This music is alot of cocaine alcohol and while titallating leads to eternal damnation. Dont look at it. Read the bible. Pray, go to church. The frontman, if you look closer is full of himself. Thats not humble selfless or christian. watch rc sproul on you tube and you should make a good start. dont forget just because a beautiful young prostitute is fun doesnt mean it has eternal value....thats deep! cocaine is fun for a while but you may pay for it with your soul in hell for all eternity. Then its not fun anymore. see?
Awesome! Glad this is preserved! I saw U2 at the Palladium in NYC around the same time in 1981. Bono had the place in the palm of his hand. One of the best shows that I ever saw.
Bono looks toasted for sure....you could already see that they were on the verge of greatness even in these early clips. It's great to see that in a historical context now.
Great to see u2 in their raw, earnest beginnings- that energy is what got them famous-with live aid in 85 cementing the deal!Just saw an early gig on veoh from 82/83 fantastic(Bono falls over again!)
This is how I remember them when I was a 16 year old fanatical fan. First concert 1982 in the RDS Dublin, last one Monday 27th July 2009 in Croker Park. Still awesome. Well done lads.xx Aideen xx
Really the year of the Hunger Strikes 4 Young lads went North from Dublin at the time quite a big deal fair play. What energy like everything else only appreciate them when their gone.
1980 --- 15 yr s old Heard this Band called U2 ???? WTF is that ! That was the Fire - Determination, Soul, Aggressiveness, Energy and much more that became the soundtrack to my life!!!
I forgot to say i WISH WISH WISH i could have seen U2 back in those days which as far as im concerned were their glory ones. Well, 1980 to 1987 at least. But boy is in my top three U2 records.
This was the year I first saw them, in NY, at the Ritz club. I knew that they were going to be huge. It was very obvious how much talent and stage presence they had, even back then.
Priceless❤ Im remembering hearing this for the first time...i believe they were backing up the stiffs... Thankyou Seamus Murray for making a pirate tape recording....and bringing it round to me....i didnt have vusual....just sound.... Been a fan ever since! All your fault !❤😂
F-ing brilliant !!! What a performance !!! "Boy" is the first and the best record they've ever made... And "Out of Control" is one of my favorite songs.
Iv never experienced this side of U2 coz I was only 4 years old in 1981, but that looks wild...I'm so envious of the crowd... if you watch him play the same song in 83 in the States they have changed soo much too much.... But still have their punk roots.... Peace.
@draoi99 new wave never heard of it, but what would I know I was four years old but from album to album they change style soo much I guess new wave is a fair description.
now i remember why u2 were the best live band in the world. i remember seeing them at tiffanys in glasgow in 1982 i was 15 at the time got sneaked in by my older mates been hooked ever since but i must admit they have never been the same since joshua tree.
wow, this is awesome! They all look so young, my brother was probably there, he has been following U2 since the very start... I saw them in the early 80's in Belfast for the 1st time, good memories... going to see them in NY next week! :)
Thanks for posting! What I love about this flick is this could have been any bunch of idealistic kids with a guitar, used amp, and an aunt with a garage--the unpretentious, anyman, consumately playable licks. Even though they are obviously world conquerers now, seeing them too years ago they still had a sense of raw everyman.
The Edge's voice nowadays is GREAT. I wish he would have sang a song on No Line on the Horizon, I was expecting that before the abum was released haha. Would have been awesome.
Bands like U2 don't become massive for no reason. There is genuine talent and incredible hard work involved. For sad losers to knock them is just a reflection on their jealousy. When you think of the 1000s of bands out there and hardly any of them become known beyond their local area, so it just shows how incredible U2 were/are. Bono's kids band Inhaler are finding that out now.
Wish my band had been as good as this when we were 20 :) Great to see footage of this kind of stuff available, this is like weewhiterocks said, how it all began ...inspiring :)
@jgme71 Aww that must have been amazing seeing them back then! I'm only 13 so I couldn't see them back then obviously but I bet it would have been to see them then. I lucked out and found tickets to their St.Louis, Missouri 360 concert and me and my dad got right in the front GA row in between The Edge and Bono, it was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me in my life!
Wow - awesome video! You can see Bono working the crowd even then - pull the crowd in, hold it and then let it go. He is a master at that. I didn't see them until the JT tour so never had the opportunity to watch them in smaller venue, much less a club venue like this. Thanks for posting!
+Nigel Charlesworth Yes it was filmed at the McMordie Hall for a BBC programme. At the end of the clip you can hear Bono say 'Good luck tomorrow Jake' referring to Jake Burns as Stiff Little Fingers were filmed the next night (I was at both gigs).
I can't believe how good they sound live at this point. Talented little buggers...
Thank god Bono eventually overcame his crippling stage fright!
+terrapanda Hahaha! Best comment on a U2 live video ever. Well done.
+terrapanda Lol!! I can't stop laughing actually. He's practically throwing himself around the stage and looks as high as a kite! I'd never seen this performance before and it's cracking me up! :D

I like these old original videos. Raw. Talented kids expressing something worthwhile.
Man, I love these guys... they always play as if it's their last show. And Bono's still flubbing the lyrics to it 30+ years later :)
This is just GREAT! Easily one of the best TV recordings of the early U2!!!
This song is a classic and should be remembered as such!
Awesome! Glad this is preserved! I saw U2 at the Palladium in NYC around the same time in 1981. Bono had the place in the palm of his hand. One of the best shows that I ever saw.
Still making music. One of the great bands of our time. Love him and my grand kids do also.
The real U2 I loved back then.
There is not such thing as "Real U2"...
Always brings a tear to my eye's, the U2 I new as a boy and grew to love
Bono looks toasted for sure....you could already see that they were on the verge of greatness even in these early clips. It's great to see that in a historical context now.

Still makes my heart sing, even after all of these years. This 45 year old is 13 all over again.
This is how I remember them when I was a 16 year old fanatical fan. First concert 1982 in the RDS Dublin, last one Monday 27th July 2009 in Croker Park. Still awesome. Well done lads.xx Aideen xx
You could never get this close to them now. :'(
pseudohipSTAR90 Well they're new tour is really compact so maybe ;)
Really the year of the Hunger Strikes 4 Young lads went North from Dublin at the time quite a big deal fair play. What energy like everything else only appreciate them when their gone.
I was born in 1981,now I finally managed to see them live in Belfast for the first time :) Great show as always
1980 --- 15 yr s old Heard this Band called U2 ???? WTF is that ! That was the Fire - Determination, Soul, Aggressiveness, Energy and much more that became the soundtrack to my life!!!
Uno de los temas estelares del debut de U2, ya desde esa época The Edge se proyectaba como un gran guitarrista.
it's amazing how they are still together and making success after all these years, no band can compare
Fuck this I love u2
Best band ever
voutespancar control love
😅
voutespancar fuck
Still my favorite U2 song..........So glad I saw them play it in 1983 and in 1987.
i think Bono was channelling Ian Curtis there.
I forgot to say i WISH WISH WISH i could have seen U2 back in those days which as far as im concerned were their glory ones. Well, 1980 to 1987 at least. But boy is in my top three U2 records.
Damn! They didn't even know how to stay in tune or on time but the energy makes unforgettable.
This was the year I first saw them, in NY, at the Ritz club. I knew that they were going to be huge. It was very obvious how much talent and stage presence they had, even back then.
Priceless❤

Long time fan, all through high school , finding this clip now is fantastic, never saw this
i had a fantasy that i time traveled and was there for a second...
glad early U2 like this is available...they were completely unlike any other band at this time...
no words for such beauty.
Kicking butt at the start of their long career. This is 3 years before I heard of them an they became my second favorite band of all time!
I love U2 and The Doors and this show really reminds me a Morrison style
Iv never experienced this side of U2 coz I was only 4 years old in 1981,
but that looks wild...I'm so envious of the crowd...

They were New Wave, not punk.
@draoi99 new wave never heard of it, but what would I know I was four years old but from album to album they change style soo much I guess new wave is a fair description.
Good Viewing Earlier U2 Music.
Elevating. Elevation.
Berry Music ciao Berry
My god. Such excitement. It would have been something to be there!
This video is AWESOME. Reminds me of how awesome they were back in the day!
Happy 35 birthday Boy, on this day October 20th
just awesome. been a u2 fan for 23 years seen them 45 times wish i had been there at these early] gigs
now i remember why u2 were the best live band in the world.
i remember seeing them at tiffanys in glasgow in 1982 i was 15 at the time got sneaked in by my older mates been hooked ever since but i must admit they have never been the same since joshua tree.
They had to change after RaH, the whole theme had been daragged out as far as it could,, they reinvented well and held their own 1990-01,
Bollocks. Their best albums were in the 90's
first seen them down under at the Sydney entertainment centre all those years ago .there amazing
This bang has huge potential! 💜
wow, this is awesome! They all look so young, my brother was probably there, he has been following U2 since the very start... I saw them in the early 80's in Belfast for the 1st time, good memories... going to see them in NY next week! :)

When I feel out of control I play this
This is a great song. I do not hear it often enough.
it doesn't get any better than this - U2 on the Boy tour
omg i love this song! look at all of them! so cute and they are amazing! whenever i am down i listen and dance to this song
The Edge's voice nowadays is GREAT. I wish he would have sang a song on No Line on the Horizon, I was expecting that before the abum was released haha. Would have been awesome.
after 31 years..the same fire..the same energy..the same miracle!
loved it when Bono realised he'd messed up the lyrics and just said "Again?"-lol wonderful raw early performance.
the band shows it's early 'post punk' roots here,, very New Wave .. even the song name - out of control - has punk overtones ... great stuff !
Bands like U2 don't become massive for no reason. There is genuine talent and incredible hard work involved. For sad losers to knock them is just a reflection on their jealousy. thank god for this moment for it lead us all to all the others... God bless, ale... ale.. luia........
Living history!
Still running.
I love these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is the greatest thing I've ever seen. U2 on the Boy tour, AMAZING!!!
Great then ,and still Great,thanks
Wish my band had been as good as this when we were 20 :) Great to see footage of this kind of stuff available, this is like weewhiterocks said, how it all began ...inspiring :)
Bono's voice is far more developed today then back in those days. He even says he hates hearing it on the early records.
That was great.
nothing like the skids.. this is u2 finding their feet .. and 30 odd years later they are still looking :P .. top band i listen to no one else!!
This is pretty hilarious to watch! What was Bono on?! His dancing! Hahaha. Good to see this video, I'd never seen this performance before. :)
He acts like he's on speed, in my opinion... It's still good, tho...
Either way he was having a ball.. Since corporate came in they are not the same but still love them
the seeds of a universal success !
This IS Rock'n Roll !
Freakin' amazing after all these years! Bono is the showman, especially at 1:38!
the beatiful bono
@jgme71 Aww that must have been amazing seeing them back then! I'm only 13 so I couldn't see them back then obviously but I bet it would have been to see them then. “Again?” (0:53) 😂 that’s just the cutest :)
This is amazing.
駆け出しの頃U2...!
荒削りのライブパフォーマンス...!
最高にカッコいい!!!
So Great! So Cooooooool!!!
Who will think in that moment that this 4 men will be one of the greatest all time rock band.
The audio on this is great. Thanks for posting it. I can see why Jonny Marr thinks The Edge is a great guitar player.
Wow. Right on!
amazing
what a great video
This band is going to go far.
Merci pour l’upload !
Oro puro
amazing to think just 4 or 5 years later they were selling out stadiums!
Just playing the song ain't the 'thing', it's the song, plus the energy, plus the character and manner of the performers.
U2 at their best.Raw stuff.
Wow - awesome video! You can see Bono working the crowd even then - pull the crowd in, hold it and then let it go. He is a master at that. I didn't see them until the JT tour so never had the opportunity to watch them in smaller venue, much less a club venue like this. Thanks for posting!
Oh my to be able to see them like this instead of a 60,000 seat arena!
molto excellente...thanks to the uploader !!!
Awesome. What I'd give to've seen them at this time!
I wonder if at that age if they knew what an influence they would eventually have on the world. Amazing.
Best video of U2 I've ever seen! Thank you so much for posting this. San Francisco from 1981 is great but this is priceless.
u2 la mejor banda...
Absolute genius...thanks for sharing this
the best band of all times
Belfast '81...No corporate boxes and prawn sandwiches at that gig. That was about puttin' your ass out there, and they delivered. Big thumbs up!
I love U Adam!!
Was this in the McMordie Hall at QUB for a BBC programme? If so, I was there.
Nigel Charlesworth Lucky you !!
Nigel Charlesworth Think it was for Arena
amreel they played only Out of control or did they play a complete show?
Grazie from Italy
Early raw U2 is as good as music gets!
Awesome thank U2:).^^^^^
Bono was “out of control“
Who will gonna think that this 4 tenageers became 30 years later in the greatest band in the world...
