Always killed me how Bono said New Year's Day seemed to play itself. That's cause the Edge is doing everything! Solid foundation from Larry and Adam that allows the Edge to slide back and forth from piano to guitar sounding like 2 separate musicians at once... and those backing vocals! Everyone should get an Edge in their band.

I was living in Los Angeles then and man i sure do wish i could have gone to the US Festival where this was done. Been a fan since 83 and great to see them still rocking after all these years. Love this song and nothing changed today but the calendar.
I delivered a car 3000 miles from Montreal to LA to be at the 83US Fest...got there Friday afternoon and left Tuesday morning...best 5 days of my life

U2 still goin' strong! Watched 'em play a few nights ago in Bulacan, Philippines. I cried at one of The Edge's solos. Them playing back here in this 1983 video shows that they're as good now just as they were back then. All hail U2! /GK

I still think to this day that it was this performance that helped break the band in America. They were one of the few bands that played that weekend that were on tour at the time of the festival and it helped prepare them for what pretty much was their biggest gig up until that point.
That was every bands biggest gig ever !!!
I was too young to go see this show. My parents wouldn’t take me. One of the best bands and songs of all time. They still to this day 2020 sound freaking awesome love. Perfection.

I’m a singer with roughly the same kind of voice as Bono; I’m a low tenor - and I can’t come anywhere near hitting that note.
And the crazy thing is that Bono could go even higher than that.
Easy though, you just need like a few thousand attendees.
