Twisting the entire clip at the base 90 degrees works even better. You don’t wrench the long clip that way with pliers, the base rotates freely in the pillar hole it is connected to. I did one pillar with pliers and deformed the clips to the point where I had to buy replacements, the tech at the dealer gave me the tip and it works great, and the panel will fit snug.

I can rotate the entire clip for my 2012 Prius. However, for my 2013 Corolla, it looks like the clip base is fixed to the A-pillar frame, similar to the OP's picture. Can it be twisted?

I just "turned the base" of the clip on my 2012 rav4 and it worked liked magic.
Make sure that FIRST the rubber weather stripping is removed and THEN get to work on the plastic trim piece. Doing so, allows easy access and plenty of space to turn the two plastic locks that keep the a pillar trim from falling off the pillar.
Only used my index finger for this. There is really no need for any pliers for this if done right.
      Thank you for the comment.

@@gamanshoo I have a 2011 Rav4 and the trim (top part) on the driver side keeps getting loose. I had to push it back back but then it gets loose again. Do you think the clip has turned and so the trim is loose? Must I remove the rubber lining then pull the trim a bit to access the clip base and turn it 90deg then push back the trim? I would appreciate if you can provide more instructions. Thanks

@@rgee5209 what you say is exactly what I did and it worked….for about 3 months…
The hard plastic a-pillar cover is loose again from the top…on both sides of the car…

You're a life saver. Thank you! Don't forget to disconnect the battery.

FIRST: Disconnect both battery terminals so the Air Bag does not "Fire" .e., Inflate while you are working right in its immediate area. Always do this before working on any trim that has an air bag behind it.

This is a good video, and thank you for it. But it would have been way more helpful if you had someone hold the camera while you did it from start to finish.

There is an important tiny white clip on my Solara trim, about mid-way down the middle. It turns out to be a big problem...the tab on the trim pushes it in and it disappears when you install it on the metal pillar! I have now lost the second one; I guess the first got pushed in when I was originally trying to re-fasten the loose trim. It appears that I SHOULD have attached the clip to the trim and *then* let the clip fasten into the metal frame. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

Does the pillar cover have tape on it? What keeps it in place since it can pull out easily to access the clip? Mine pops back when I hit a big bump.

  • @kelvinwong7413

That clip is to prevent the whole pillar from flying out when the airbag deploy

  • @Islandscout8

How did you manage to disconnect the tweeter speaker? I can't figure out how to do it for the life of me. I don't have enough clearance to push down on the "clamp" on the plug to pull it out.

    • @Islandscout8
      @Islandscout8 3 года назад

For anyone with this issue: The speaker is enclosed inside the black "cylinder" with 3 clamps. You'll know where it disassociates because you can wiggle the speaker a bit. You can pull the speaker out while pulling against the clamps, and that will allow you to separate the speaker from the A-pillar.
Afterwards, it should be easier to unplug the speaker.

That "odd" black clip is not meant to be reused. It is a safety clip that should be replaced with a new one when you destroy it by taking the trim off.

Well I didn't feel like replacing it and it's holding the trim perfectly securely

The entire base of that piece should rotate so you can pull the trim off, you don't need pliers to just twist the top.
