We caught up with superstar DJ, producer and all-round nice guy Carl Cox to find out what he thinks about the CDJ-3000.
Having entertained us all with his weekly Cabin Fever stream during lockdown whilst working on his forthcoming album, Carl reflects in this interview on how he sees music and DJ’ing being a gift that he doesn’t take for granted. He conveys what features of the CDJ-3000 professional DJ multi player are working for him and what performance factors are the most important.

Had the honer of meeting him a few times back in the 90's, everything you hear about him is true, absolute class (on and off the decks)..

I like Carl Cox a lot. He just has a comforting type of soul. Learning to DJ in front of people can be nerve racking, he kinda reminds us all that, hey, have fun. It's not THAT serious. Play from your soul and don't doubt your self. As we get deeper into the DJ craft as beginners, for people like me it is easy to see why veteran DJs almost speak of the craft as spiritual. You learn a lot about yourself and who you are when DJing. It's more than just playing songs...but at the same time...you're just playing songs. So have fun. If you trip and fall, get back up and keep trying. There is a metaphor for life woven into the DJ philosophy and I'm here for it!

The first 30 seconds of this interview is exactly how I feel about dance music dj and producing doesn't mean I'm good just means I feel the same way as the great Carl Cox and that makes me happy
Ideally, you should get both, especially if you Dj for a living. Pioneer is just the club and festival standard. Denon is cool to play with at home. Pioneer is the apple phone and Denon is the android with cutting edge technology that outperforms pioneer here and there, but most people are not familiar with it.
Carl Cox changes his preferred gear so often it is actually hilarious. Remember when he was using model 1 for the rest of his career lol. Money talks.
Could be how much competition thats out there, and how quick tech moves on nowadays. If you were in his position im sure you would do the same, i know i would 😜
Hey as somebody who also likes to DJ on the weekends, its really cool to see a review of the new fancy controllers. I can totally appreciate that the technology changes and evolves over the years. And coxy has been in the game for decades. If you could afford all that fancy equipment, why not try it out for fun?
Well model 1 is a mixer these are decks mate but yes he switches up what he plays. He played on a V10 in Austin when I saw him

Carl is a DJ’s DJ. He embraced new technology of DJing music from the vinyl days. What makes Carl stand out from the rest is he don’t just play music, he is a proper mix master. When Carl arrives, the place rumbles. When the place rumbles, you’re moving. No one does IT like Carl. An absolute legend.

i feel happy and expired when i hear him play live or on youtube. just something kicks in me to just put in the time and make amazing beats and tracks, Carl is definitely the pioneer when he plays and his ability to play and use the decks is amazing and defmon. higher level then any other dj .. #GODFATHERofTechnoandTrance..
Carl, if things like quantized beat jumps amaze you, wait until you get your hands on things like loop rolls and slicers. You know things that have been available in controllers and on Denon SC players for at least half a decade.

Hahaha im still rocking my used Pioneer wego4. I got it for about 250 dollars and I can throw one hell of a party with it! Honestly I don’t need all the bells and whistles, just a good playlist. But im sure the top-line equipment for the pros must be amazing to use. Would love to try for myself one day
Carl is a brilliant guy I love his music and him as a person! He is one of the best DJs alongside Moby and Paul Oakenfold.

Still rocking the very first CDJ2000's at home that I got imported from New York to the UK (prob one of the first in the UK to get them) . Still going strong. Only niggle is the jog wheel is a bit stiff on one and the CD mechanism on one doesn't work, but hooked up via a hub to Traktor it doesn't really matter. Anyway, point is, they cost me £1000 a pop. 2200 a pop now :D :D :D

Knew I'd regret looking at the price of these things, but then again they're generally aimed at clubs and events (not the average consumer). Would be silly (even if you had the money) to buy a setup with these things, unless you really knew what you were doing.
I played on both pioneer 3000 and Denon 6000s. Both are amazing but I purchased the 6000s for tech and price. the club standard to play on is pioneer. So it's best to familiarize yourself with both players D j's always should be Versatile.
The jog wheel while smoother is actually more difficult to use when beatmatching... Its very odd at times.
I really can’t stress this enough. I like it when they felt heavier and not so glidy

i never understood why you can't do a 'backwards' loop
Does it work if you press and hold the Que button but set a loop length? I know pressing and holding the Que would send the track in reverse, well it did last time i tried

Sc5000 beats the hell out of these players . Sc 6000 is even bigger and better . So pioneer can hide under a rock . Shame

@@cjpeeton In our shop we have way more costumers who have problems with Denon than Pioneer. But Pioneer is insanely expensive.
@@RC75 i own denon sc 5000s since the release day . No problem at all . I own cdjs as well . Cue button changed , jogwheel changed …. I am coming a long way since cdj 100s and many dns players . Still own cdj 100s . People can’t affort to take the cdjs to fix in service . They order the assembly and change it diy . That’s the way it is . As You said it already , it is expensive , not just to buy it .

Own 8 3000’s and I think they are easily the worst built and buggiest I’ve had, had every model since the 1000mk 2. Not good.
