I agree. Kate Bush reinvented music itself, stage performance and made it her own. The only man that comes to mind who did the same thing is Ian Anderson.
This was my introduction to Kate when I rented the VHS on a whim back in 1981 and what a magnificent find it was. I have been in love with her music ever since. One of the most talented songwriters I have ever heard. This show is unbelievable. Such confidence in a 21 year old performing all her own music, some of which was composed when she was as young as 11, accompanied with interpretive dance.
not only is she singing, dancing but very visual, every song has its own mood and dance theme, there will never be another Kate bush, truly astounding, turn everything off, put your headphones on, she will take you to a different stratosphere.......brilliant
Amen brother i first listened to Kate Bush in 1979 and it was Freaking bas azz then and it still kicks major azz , She is Brilliant and i am mostly into Rock but she's tooooo dam cool i would pay a fortune to see her in Cali :) :(
I do sometimes wonder what British pop music would have been like if Kate had toured regularly; what shows we might have seen, given her musical and theatrical sensibilities.
I fully understand, it seems like every song is a video, performed live. Her standards were so high, that it was exhausting, so she never wanted to tour again.
Touring was too much stress for her and traumatic because of a deadly accident with one of the crew during this tour. That made her never wanting touring again.
Kate Bush has been one of those rarest of performers, a genuine gargantuan talent completely unswayed by the trappings of fame, and a sorceress who has woven a world of pure innovation within her own impermeable bubble
She is a once in a life time musical artist. End of. We are so fortunate to have lived in her time. And here she had only lived for 19 years. I find that extraordinary.
Thank you! This should be registered as a historical artifact in the National Archives. Now, if we could only get this good of a video of a complete performance of Peter Gabriel’s 1983 tour.
Kate, you are my favorite person on earth. Your art makes existence feel like an eternal fantasy, filled with mistery, beauty, madness, delirum and everything that speaks to the soul. We are so greatful for the legacy you've left us, you're an angel flung out from space.
I wouldn't be able to forget something this exceptional either. I didn't know about Kate Bush until the year 1986 when "The Whole Story" was published.
Mind blowing. Kate Bush is a brilliant artist and a musical genius. Her songs are incredible stories, each one unique and deeply layered. Her live vocals are utterly astonishing. Listen to her vocals on The Kick Inside - unbelievably gorgeous.
Oh god... still the best show I've ever seen. Thank you - I saw her at the Birmingham Hippodrome. I am now crying... I have a feeling I'll be watching this video a lot! ♥♥♥
Kate Bush is the point of ART and real musician...She is so unique. Concert in 80s are something special... Wuthering heights is mindblowing and solo in the end just bring tears on my eyes.
I remember my friend and I rushing to get tickets on the night of her performance in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on this tour. We got back row seats. It remains one of the most special moments of my life.
Kate the innovator. Compare this concert with others of that era to understand just how much Kate pushed back the boundaries. To my knowledge this is the first use of a (home made) radio mike - to allow Kate to be expressive with her arms. We have so much to thank her for.
You're right, she certainly was an innovator. The Headset mic i created for her was not home made, but like many prototypes had humble beginnings and developed into a very useful and unique tool. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Absolutely incredible. To think this is 1979 too. I wonder how many "artists" today would be able to pull a show like this off without the use of modern digital equipment. Those giving thumbs down to this video really do not have a clue about music.
Firts time in the world for a total concert ! Hey Madonna and so on, look at this, if you did it a few decades ago, I think you'd have stayed in your room, honestly...
Its still the best concert or music event that I have ever attended. Still have the program( containing post cards, flyers and photos. Just wish they would release it on DVD.
I agree Mark: was fortunate to see the show two times. For those who think this video is awesome I must say that it pales in comparison to the visual treat of being there as we were able to see the moving filmed images that accompanied the singing and dancing on stage. Sadly the equipment of that time does not pick up the montage of moving images at the back of the set
You just copied paste my thoughts. I saw the show at Amsterdam, April 1979. As die hard Queenfan I saw them 7 times with Freddie. Awesome concerts!! I attended the Freddie Mercury Tribute at Wembley. I saw Paul McCartney twice. I saw Billy Joel. Peter Frampton, Styx and some more acts. Last year I attended a Muse concert. All awesome and great. But I must say that this Kate Bush concert is the most special one I ever attended. After 41 years I’m still impressed by this show. .
this is so unbelievable and touching! musical genius, beauty! i wished i had the chance to be around, but seeing it nearly 40 years later it still touches my soul and i am full of respect for her incredible work.
What I love about her is she’s doing her absolute own thing regardless of how strange it may seem. She’s so brave for bringing her imagination to life. So even when I see something of hers and think it’s whack, I don’t judge her, I just think wow you do you. Such an inspiration to me and not just in her wild creativity, but also a reminder to be unforgivably myself ❤️
Saw Kate at Manchester Apollo on the one and only Tour Of Life and will never ever forget that night, absolutely amazing music and performance, incredible, wow!
Kate Bush at her absolute best - Superb version of Violin - I keep watching it! - the movements both beautiful and tormented at the same time. Love it!!!
Thank you so much for uploading this! I have never seen the entire show, just the 58 minute video of the concert that was released in the 80s. Is it just me, or does anyone else start to cry when she sings Wuthering Heights and waves to the crowd at the end? I start bawling every time. It's so moving and beautiful!

Wow, l didn't know this recording existed. Many thanks for rekindling the memories. A mesmerising concert, pure art. I had forgotten just how many songs she performed. After her first Top of Pops performance I fell in love with her and her so original music. The Kick inside and Lion Heart were brillant first albums but I wish we could have seen a concert featuring her subsequent albums too. Kat not of this world. An a ethereal beauty with a voice to match. One of best concerts I have ever seen.
This was a fantastic tour, the absolute best i ever worked on, but the credits have been wrong for 40 years. Gordon Paterson rip did the incredible Concert sound engineering, not the Stage sound which i did and developed the Headset mic for her. Great memories.
So you are the man responsible for revolutionising how artists were to be miked on stage from 1979 onwards? Bravo! That's an achievement worthy of every bit of praise. I have thought of you (without knowing who you were) for nearly 40 years, every time I see an artist on stage with a headset mic. Of course it was Kate who came up with the idea, but you who brought it to reality, and with very little to work with.
@@iancawood417 ....... i think you are right, we did use a cabled Mic on one or two songs early in the tour, although it was almost impossible for Kate to use it because of the choreography. Changing transmission frequencies was one solution but we certainly had probs with radio taxis, other radio transmitter systems and noisey interference from fridges, neon lighting etc., very problematic so had to get someone to take care solely of the radio Mic systems, Cameron ( sorry... forgotten his surname but will add it later). He brought in the same radio systems the BBC used at the time and all probs disappeared. 👍🇬🇧
Damn good singing on "Moving", "Symphony In Blue" and "Wuthering Heights". I know she gave great perfomance on the all songs, three mentioned above are standouts for me.
It could be totally redone from the original 35mm footage like they did with 'The Professionals' tv series from the same era - and they look phenomenal on HD bluray xD
Whoo hoo! I thought I'd seen every bit of Kate Bush footage on the planet, but that bit at the end where she comes out and addresses the audience - FANTASTIC!! For all those of us that have spent the last 40 years wishing we could have been there, this is the next best thing. Thank you so much!

saw kate first time when cable t.v. was in its infancy. fell in love with her performance, her eclectic voice, and yes I was attracted to her. She was sweet ,endearing, an embracing soul, taking fears away. I felt warm and safe with her , an angel. Beautiful!
Love here way of complete different approach to music and human expression, feel kind of resemblance of not matching with general what is expected. All my respect for this artist.
"You look like an angel sleeping it off at the station" is the most striking, moving description of a lover I've ever heard. Kerouac would have been proud of that one.
Many thanks for sharing. Surprised Ms Bush's people haven't pulled this down ages ago! I haven't watched this for a very long time; I do have a vhs copy recorded off the TV in late 80s, and could play it, but means dragging the old vcr out the loft hoping it still works. The way Kate seems to operate these days I suspect this concert will never get an official release on bluray this side of the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, but we can only hope.. There was a laser disc version of course.🙂 I'm sure there are some songs on this upload that I don't remember from the original VHS, but it is a long time since I watched it. I saw Kate in concert in 2014, but have to confess this concert looks alot more fun. She didn't play anything pre Hounds of Love then..missing all the best stuff for me. After the 2014 gig, the friend I was with suggested we would never see Kate play live again. So far, he has been proven right.

I saw Kate in concert in 2014, but have to confess this concert looks alot more fun. She didn't play anything pre Hounds of Love then..missing all the best stuff for me. After the 2014 gig, the friend I was with suggested we would never see Kate play live again. So far, he has been proven right.
Still haven't heard more tuneful or wistful songs 40 years later, worth listening with good headphones, spine chillingly good::)
