- On 12 May 1978, Dutch broadcaster TROS broadcast a 20 minute Kate Bush television special, directed by Toppop director Rien van Wijk and recorded at the Dutch amusement park the Efteling. On 10 May 1978, the Efteling was ready to open the Haunted Castle, the most expensive attraction it had ever constructed, and they wanted to promote it as much as they could. Ton van der Ven, who designed the castle, appeared in a popular talk show and in April a documentary featuring the Haunted Castle was made by filmmaker Rien van Wijk, who was eager to shoot in the latest attraction before it officially opened. Kate, who just had a big hit with Wuthering Heights, was approached for a television special that would promote both Efteling and her songs. The special was filmed in April, a month before the official opening of the castle.
This is the original broadcast of May 12, 1978. The original 16m film is lost; this is a copy of the uMatic version that is the only version left.
The Efteling TV Special songs:
• "Moving" was filmed in the square in front of the Haunted Castle
• "Wuthering heights"; Kate can be seen inside the Haunted Castle. Among other things, a smoke machine was used.
• "Them heavy people" was filmed at 3 locations; in the attic of the castle, at the entrance with the oriental spirit and outside in front of the entrance of the well that is part of the attraction 'The Indian water lilies'.
• "The man with the child in his eyes" was filmed by the lake with gondolettes and swans
• Strange Phenomena, has the double shot with the mirror image and was filmed in the castle's catacombs.
• "The Kick Inside". Kate has gray hair in this shot and is lying in a boat surrounded by flowers on the lake and sailing away. This scene conjures up images of Elaine and The Lady of Shalott, classic poetic figures from the Arthurian legend.
Catherine Bush CBE (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, and producer. She came to prominence in 1978, aged 19, when she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song. She has since released 25 UK Top 40 singles, including the top-10 hits "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill".

The amusement park Efteling is still there and very popular. If you ever find the time to visit the Netherlands, the Efteling is a day worth spent to visit.
I don’t recognize the location of the first video. Probably near Vrouw Holle and Snow White, but those locations have been renewed 2 times.
‘Wuthering heights’ was filmed in Spookslot.
‘Them heavy people’ was filmed in the indian Lillies (and Spookslot). It’s still there.
The lake in ‘The man with the child in his eyes’ video, disappeared even before I visited the Efteling the first time (1982). I guess it’s where aquanura is now.

Lp van Kate Bush The Kick Inside 1978 was de beste van haar. Altijd mooi om naar te luisteren. Ze trad een aantallen keren op bij de Efteling. Deze muziek genre past volledig bij de Efteling. Ik vindt het zeer apart. Ook trad ze toen bij muziek programma Toppop. Leuk om terug te zien. Echt tijdloos.

I agree that without RUclips we would never ever be able to see such wonderful lost and unknown video clips such as this. It would be so wonderful to have someone do a 4K scan of the original film used to make this special. Since almost all of her promotional videos were shot on videotape it would be awesome to see this and other documentaries on Kate shot on film in high resolution scans. Hey, I can dream....

Never saw this before. EMI put a compilation of Kate's videos together after Hounds of Love came out. Then I started to get into her more and went backwards because of the video compilation. She did this before videos really existed. Not cheap then. But this from TV? I've never even seen pix from this. Groovy.

I’m still sour that last year Efteling closed and demolished the haunted house where the clip for Wuthering Heights was shot. Wonder what happened to the Kate Bush gravestone that was there. 😢
That sits in the Efteling museum, although the last time I checked, I don't remember seeing it anymore... Maybe it had to make room for other things, or it was relocated and I did not look well enough. Too bad that only a U-matic is left. I had this taped myself back then, but the U-matic is better in quality than I remember my own. Broadcast was way better though. Too bad the 16mm was lost (incredible, I cannot believe it, look better please in those archives...)

I'm totally in love with 1978,I really wanted the '70s to last forever esp after the horrific decade that was the hideous '80s.The 70's era Kate is the best,sadly I couldn't get into her later 80's stuff or beyond, like so much else around at the time it did nothing for me except depress me. The 70s forever.Too bad WoW wasn't amongst those songs.
