I was in the arena for 2015 Matrix and saw the proposal happen. It was an amazing moment and the fact that they're married and still together makes it even more so.
My school's indoor group watched that show. My instructor told us to "watch closely" because "the ending is real". One of the most unforgettable events in WGI, hands down.

I remember watching the video when cayde first shared it and was surprised to how even tho it had a “gimmick” the show as still really good and the proposal was spot on (which one would expect considering it was rehearsed lol) overall it was just a really touching and vibrant show that I’m surprised didn’t get as much recognitiob
I’ve seen programs go for either a diagonal port position like you mentioned for the cymbals, or a vertical port position like we saw, I believe the vertical port just means you prep a little different before you hit, but I’ve mostly seen it with a marching cymbal line not so much a front ensemble. The full 45 degree hold just doesn’t work if you need to move around a bunch like a marching line
well yeah of course, marching is completely different. from what I've been taught, I think front ensembles in general are taught to crash like you would on concert percussion. Like you said, you only really need to worry about moving around a bunch when you're marching. (and from what I've seen marching cymbals are mostly visual) Chances are if you want a front ensemble to use crash cymbals it's a really big hit like you would want in a concert setting. I've been taught to hold the left cymbal mostly flat and close, only raising the right cymbal, and then crashing and the motion from the right hand following through the left hand. (obviously with other small technique stuff involved)
