I bought one mid last year and it's a nice range gun when you have ammo. I've seen the prices go up for Federal FMJ rounds from $29 to $80 a box. I wouldn't feel comfortable using it as a self defense gun without the Speer Gold Dot rds ($100 a box) , of course anything is going to hurt but I think they have better expansion than the V-Max. Brother I totally disagree with your comments on not carrying this handgun for self defense. I carry my Ruger-57 for my EDC and I cant even feel that I have it on me. And as far as stopping power trust me it's like getting hit with a 5.56 round.
We all have our opinions and basis for those opinion is hopefully from research! I’m glad you are enjoying it but I don’t agree with you in comparing the 5.7 caliber to a .223 or 5.56 because ballistically they aren’t even close. Average muzzle energy of a 5.7 in a pistol length barrel is a mere 220 lb ft (Only 330 lb ft carbine length barrel) compared to a little over 1300 lb ft from a 5.56 round. For reference 9mm has a little over 400 average across the board granted it will not penetrate quite like a 5.7 but the wound cavity will be much greater. If the 5.7 works well for you and you will trust your life to it, it’s certainly better than nothing and you are comfortable with it. However in my opinion as a self defense/edc gun, the 9mm, 40 cal, 10mm and 45 ACP all surpass the the 5.7, particular in the ever so important, real world effect of stopping power. With all this being said practice and good hits on the threat are all that really matter.

Tool less takedown isn’t new by any means. The purpose of the review is to be critical and look at it from all perspectives, we are basically just noting that this is a slight inconvenience vs the majority of market.
So are you recommending the gun? Seems like it, right now I believe there’s a safety recall on it from Ruger. Evidently if the hammer is back and you put the safety on you can pull the trigger and fire it. I’m not sure how widespread the issue is but safety recalls aren’t for one in 100,000. OOPS! Add to that the warning in the manual to not carry it hot because it can discharge if dropped, many owners are experiencing the mag release retention pin walking, a very cheaply made polymer captive recoil rod/spring ( the spring is flat so that’s good to avoid spring stacking but it’s poorly finished so at high round counts it starts eating the rod) this seems to be a very flawed gun. The trigger kinda sucks for a pistol made in the last two years, magazines rusting. If you’re going to review a gun, review the gun.
Richard if you don’t like the review of the gun please direct us to the review you completed so we may learn how it is done! Thank you! Now with that being said, it’s not a gun I would recommend for defensive purposes as there’re better options. It’s a blast too shoot even with ammo being expensive. We haven’t had any issues with ours and I try to be objective. I do not give my personal opinion unless I think it’s necessary, and even then in our other reviews I will specifically say “In my opinion...”. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for responding to my post, I’ve been tracking the feedback on the Ruger since it’s debut as well as tested it at my range shortly after it’s release. I live on a farm and have close friends that own a gun store, so I had access to one early on. And I stock piled 57 ammo years ago when PSA had it for $14 a box for the American Eagle. So I shot 400-500 rds through it. Because I own more than one 57 weapon I was intrigued when the Ruger hit the market. I was initially impressed with the Ruger except for the manual’s warning regarding carrying it hot. And very disappointed that they couldn’t or didn’t produce a lighter crisper trigger. The gun shop’s R 57 has seen heavy use and has experienced several issues 1. Rusty magazines 2. Finish coming off the slide 3. Their gunsmith’s observation of the polymer recoil rod being eaten by the spring 4. Finally the mag release pin walking out. Granted this gun has a very high round count. But it was well maintained and several of these issues occurred early on. I would also direct you to the owner of Elite Ammunition Jay Wolf. ( if you’re not familiar with his company, they are all things 57 ). He manufacturers self defense and hunting quality 57 ammo and does extensive gunsmithing upgrades on most of the weapons in the 57x28 world. He has tested the Ruger extensively using new runs of his ammunition in it for ballistic data. He has found similar issues and has a very low regard for this offering. Also consider that this is potentially a nice addition to his customer base so he wants it to succeed! Check Jay Wolf on RUclips. In closing, I wanted to like this gun, unfortunately Ruger cut to many corners for me. So for now I’ll stick with FN and when Ruger 57 gen 2 comes out I’ll be one of the first ones to check it out. I’ll be subscribing to your channel because of your thoughtful response to my posy. Best Regards, Rich
We appreciate your feedback and your input Rich! I will definitely have to check out Elite Ammunition. I will say this, my dad recently bought the FN Five Seven and overall build quality and fitment is much nicer but it cost him about 1k vs the 650 Andrew had paid for the ruger. I say just run it! I don’t even know what you are talking about with this comment, but I’ll attempt to answer. The only ammo available at the time of this video was American Eagle 5.7 Hollow point stuff for $50 a box.

@@HuntFishShootChannel what I’m saying is ppl complaining About the price of defense amo for the gun I got the same gun what type of life do you live that your running out of defense ammo it’s for defense that’s why they said range ammo that’s what a person would run thru
This is not a rifle round - it’s a pistol round meant to compete with/replace the 9mm. People keep calling these rifle rounds and these guns will end up getting banned.
You’re done. Done like a crappy overcooked steak.
@@HuntFishShootChannel - a great, articulate response…lol. Can’t say that I’m surprised.
I frankly don’t have the time, nor the energy, to combat half the ignorance we are privy to on this platform. Not to say we get some really well educated comments or responses either. Therefore I responded with an immature response which made me happy at the time. Would you like an articulate response which you will disagree with and then attempt to discredit said response?
price in US dollars
If the EFFING cartridges didn't cost 2$ a cartridge in MA , I'd get one. Jesus, 2$! A round? WTF!? 45$ for 20 cartridges here... tragic
Agreed!
We’ve just switched over to AXIL for hearing protection, and I wish I would’ve sooner! Click here to see what I’m wearing and use code HFS15 to save yourself some bread: bit.ly/3rSPAoH
We're also wearing the latest eye protection from Gatorz, check them out here: gatorz.com/huntfishshoot
I want it just because it’s a different caliber and being a ammosexual I wanna shoot everything. I’m giving my cousin till the end of July to get one or I’ll have her in my closet before him because no matter what I’m getting one.
Sorry about the bad language. Gone. SC Navy vet
A good plinking pistol, that costs sixty cents every trigger pull, is an oxymoron.
Unfortunately that’s the case.
I guess I have steel fingers
Or you are Iron Man, we will never know
Couldn't think of using a tool for break down?🤭this truly must be the computer age, we don't know what tools are anymore
Tool less takedown isn’t new by any means. The purpose of the review is to be critical and look at it from all perspectives, we are basically just noting that this is a slight inconvenience vs the majority of market.
I hope you hit the target and not your pick up truck lolol 😆
Good thing I have some practice shooting around vehicles! 😂
@@HuntFishShootChannel its just a Nissan lol 😆
Wanted one when they first came out, but too expensive, hope fuuly the price drop, which I doubt!
They are still quite a bit cheaper than the pistols by FN!
Then repair the parts when you need to, handguns in general are easier to repair or replace worn parts. Thank you for the sub!
You now how its say gun is not delikath staf dath is warth that mach its a bad thing that yous for celing its havw anithing beter dan makarov double sttack magazin with supresor only modern relevantly modern gun with fikseth barell piss! ✌️
Trigger sucks
We would have to disagree but that’s ok because triggers are subjective! Thank you for watching!
Don't get me wrong, shoots great, bought it used with 4 mags,750 rounds for a grand! My pandemic panic buy. There is a drop in trigger for it by victory trigger ,I think. I would not carry it cocked and locked without the new trigger
The trigger is by tandemkross
Not on mine. Smooth, and a nice felt short reset.
