    I finally found some 5.7 x 28 ammo and took it to the range then rack the slide and it failed to load and did it several times then got it the fire then it started acting up again. Was very frustrated so I called Ruger and they set it up for me to return it and told me they will take care of it and if it's unfixable they will make it right with me with a new gun. Ruger is definitely number one when it comes to customer service.

      I’ve got about 300 rounds through mine with no issues. It’s a fun gun to shoot, but finding Ammo for it at a reasonable price is tough right now. I just saw it in the store for $50 for 50 rounds which is the cheapest I’ve seen in nearly a year.

      It only took 9 days to get my Ruger 57 back from Ruger and I did have some ammo for it and I took it to the range and it did what it was supposed to do it fired one right after another with no issues. Run about a hundred and fifty rounds through it and did not have any more problems. Ruger is definitely true to their word.

    Here is what you are not being told about 5.7x28 handguns:
    - to get the proper terminal performance that will make the 5.7x28 bullet more effective as a man or beast stopper you need a long enough barrel. _Hence,_ the long-ish barrels of the FN & Ruger 5.7 pistols. You will never see a 3" barreled 5.7x28 firearm.
    - the FN & Ruger loose *_a lot_* of effectiveness in that their barrels are too short. The 5.7x28 round shines and does what it was designed to do in barrel 10 inch barrels or longer.
    So that lightness of the pistol & in recoil, plus more bullets in the magazine advantage comes at a cost. The 9mm is a better man stopper due to this "issue".

      @@HuntFishShootChannel My pleasure. Here is an example of the problem. In those famous FBI shootouts. If the Agents had the FN 5.7 or the Ruger 5.7x28mm they would have done worse to stop the "bad" guys. _But_ the FBI Agent's would have penetrated their body armor & car doors.
      Thus, in normal every day self-defense incidents the weakness of the 5.7x28 is easily seen compared to a 9mm or .45 ACP round man stopper.

    I bought one mid last year and it's a nice range gun when you have ammo. I've seen the prices go up for Federal FMJ rounds from $29 to $80 a box. I wouldn't feel comfortable using it as a self defense gun without the Speer Gold Dot rds ($100 a box) , of course anything is going to hurt but I think they have better expansion than the V-Max. As for the other rds that made the FN Five Seven desirable, I haven't seen them. I lucked up and found 1 box of 27gr lead free rd. It was cheaper than the FN, but I could have spent this money on something more useful.

    First man slams the trigger a bit too hard, you can see him anticipate the shot when he didn't reset the trigger. Maybe add some random dummy rounds and practice a smoother trigger pull. Might not sound fun but it'll make you that much better of shooter even if you're already good. Good review either way!

    Was eyeballing one of these , but $$$$ money for it and rounds doesn't match up. I think I watched every Yt video out there. The consensus is it's a glorified 22 mag. I converted my Glock 20 to 9x25 Dillon it's a vest popper for sure shooting fmj at over 2000 fps with a 9mm bullet. I bought a Springfield 10 mm xdm 5 inch and it looks like a twin to the ruger 57 . So really now I have 2 10 mm . For the $$$$ money a $125.00 barrel will get you to terminal velocity , which you know has to be 2000 fps . The smart fellar is the barrel swapping $125 . Where I live we have a lot of critters that bite back. And nothing can stand up to the 9x25 , nothing. The only downfall is it's LOUD . Bear pops out on you , you'll be doing sign language shorty afterwards. The Gov't does not want you to even know about the 9x25 due to it's vest puncturing ability's , that's why all standard calibers in pistols is regulated. It's also why you can't buy military body armor . You'd be amazed at the vastly different equipment they can have , versus what we can have. Seriously !!!!! the 9x25 Dillon scares them. Peace of mind is a 9x25 when the going gets tough. Very few people know about the Dillon ,reloading it the sky's the limit as far as fps .And 16 rounds in the Glock 20"" Whoa"" Peace.

    Brother I totally disagree with your comments on not carrying this handgun for self defense. I carry my Ruger-57 for my EDC and I cant even feel that I have it on me. And as far as stopping power trust me it's like getting hit with a 5.56 round.

    • @HuntFishShootChannel
      @HuntFishShootChannel  4 года назад +2

      We all have our opinions and basis for those opinion is hopefully from research! I’m glad you are enjoying it but I don’t agree with you in comparing the 5.7 caliber to a .223 or 5.56 because ballistically they aren’t even close. Average muzzle energy of a 5.7 in a pistol length barrel is a mere 220 lb ft (Only 330 lb ft carbine length barrel) compared to a little over 1300 lb ft from a 5.56 round. For reference 9mm has a little over 400 average across the board granted it will not penetrate quite like a 5.7 but the wound cavity will be much greater. If the 5.7 works well for you and you will trust your life to it, it’s certainly better than nothing and you are comfortable with it. However in my opinion as a self defense/edc gun, the 9mm, 40 cal, 10mm and 45 ACP all surpass the the 5.7, particular in the ever so important, real world effect of stopping power. With all this being said practice and good hits on the threat are all that really matter.

    • @Azznbad
      @Azznbad 3 года назад

      @@HuntFishShootChannel but the rounds you mentioned are about half the velocity which is after all what makes 5.56 deadly

    • @errolbarnes6682
      @errolbarnes6682 3 года назад

      @@Azznbad the 5.7 loses it's energy very quickly and if you're not using a defensive round the desired stopping effect may not be achieved. I considered carrying mine, but I don't trust the V-max ammo for consistent expansion. I think the rounds that really hyped the 57 platform up are not available to the public, just military and law enforcement. I'm starting to see the Speer Gold Dot rds more, but at $100+ per box. They're moving at 1800 fps and may have the best defensive stopping power with good expansion.

    Tanner Machine products makes a RMR & Holosun mounting plate from 6061 aluminum but the wimpy Ruger 57 cant handle it. From Ruger "We do not have another option for the recoil spring, only what was available from the factory. The optic that is mounted is too heavy and is preventing your firearm from cycling properly." Only Ruger, all other gun manufactures you can mount any sight, what a joke, don't worry a real manufacturer will come up with a spring that will work soon, I explained that I needed the Holosun for my wife that had a stroke so she can one hand rack and the sights that they offer are not robust enough, but Ruger don't care and sheepishly wont mention there sight limitations on web sight, hope someone comes up with a better pistol soon. ** note Alex Pro has a better threaded barrel for the 57, not so clunky.

    So are you recommending the gun? Seems like it, right now I believe there’s a safety recall on it from Ruger. Evidently if the hammer is back and you put the safety on you can pull the trigger and fire it. I’m not sure how widespread the issue is but safety recalls aren’t for one in 100,000. OOPS! Add to that the warning in the manual to not carry it hot because it can discharge if dropped, many owners are experiencing the mag release retention pin walking, a very cheaply made polymer captive recoil rod/spring ( the spring is flat so that’s good to avoid spring stacking but it’s poorly finished so at high round counts it starts eating the rod) this seems to be a very flawed gun. The trigger kinda sucks for a pistol made in the last two years, magazines rusting. If you’re going to review a gun, review the gun.

      Richard if you don’t like the review of the gun please direct us to the review you completed so we may learn how it is done! Thank you!
      Now with that being said, it’s not a gun I would recommend for defensive purposes as there’re better options. It’s a blast too shoot even with ammo being expensive. We haven’t had any issues with ours and I try to be objective. I do not give my personal opinion unless I think it’s necessary, and even then in our other reviews I will specifically say “In my opinion...”. Thank you for watching!

      Thanks for responding to my post, I’ve been tracking the feedback on the Ruger since it’s debut as well as tested it at my range shortly after it’s release. I live on a farm and have close friends that own a gun store, so I had access to one early on. And I stock piled 57 ammo years ago when PSA had it for $14 a box for the American Eagle. So I shot 400-500 rds through it. Because I own more than one 57 weapon I was intrigued when the Ruger hit the market. I was initially impressed with the Ruger except for the manual’s warning regarding carrying it hot. And very disappointed that they couldn’t or didn’t produce a lighter crisper trigger. The gun shop’s R 57 has seen heavy use and has experienced several issues 1. Rusty magazines 2. Finish coming off the slide 3. Their gunsmith’s observation of the polymer recoil rod being eaten by the spring 4. Finally the mag release pin walking out. Granted this gun has a very high round count. But it was well maintained and several of these issues occurred early on.
      I would also direct you to the owner of Elite Ammunition Jay Wolf. ( if you’re not familiar with his company, they are all things 57 ). He manufacturers self defense and hunting quality 57 ammo and does extensive gunsmithing upgrades on most of the weapons in the 57x28 world. He has tested the Ruger extensively using new runs of his ammunition in it for ballistic data. He has found similar issues and has a very low regard for this offering. Also consider that this is potentially a nice addition to his customer base so he wants it to succeed! Check Jay Wolf on RUclips. In closing, I wanted to like this gun, unfortunately Ruger cut to many corners for me. So for now I’ll stick with FN and when Ruger 57 gen 2 comes out I’ll be one of the first ones to check it out. I’ll be subscribing to your channel because of your thoughtful response to my posy. Best Regards, Rich

      We appreciate your feedback and your input Rich! I will definitely have to check out Elite Ammunition. I will say this, my dad recently bought the FN Five Seven and overall build quality and fitment is much nicer but it cost him about 1k vs the 650 Andrew had paid for the ruger. I say just run it! Then repair the parts when you need to, handguns in general are easier to repair or replace worn parts. Thank you for the sub!

      We would have to disagree but that’s ok because triggers are subjective! Thank you for watching!

      Don't get me wrong, shoots great,bought it used with 4 mags,750 rounds for a grand! My pandemic panic buy. There is a drop in trigger for it by victory trigger ,I think. I would not carry it cocked and locked without the new trigger

      Not on mine. Smooth, and a nice felt short reset.
