Well like the ship the captain this class is named after (NX enterprise) This ship isn’t a luxury cruise liner and is ment to hold its own. Like the NX. A small ship that is quick and decent power.
By my calculations, the saucer section is almost exactly the same size as the Millenium Falcon! I'm surprised the only built 200, this class looks tailormade to be churned out by the thousand on a production line. It's got to have a gross mass of only a couple of thousand tons.
A COMPLETELY valid question from StainlessSteelFox! And my guess would be, more were simply not needed! As Starfleet could protect itself using these and all the other vessels it had! They werent at war after all!
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely greatly wonderfully well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided on the Archer Class starship's (Starfleets little Scraper), A job very nicely fabulously well done indeed Sir!👌.
You did an awesome job as usual. This is a fun little design. I could imagine the officers complaining about food being reconstituted. Too bad there just wasn't food synthesizers on board like other Federation ships. I find it interesting that you add for a ship this size rank and protocol would be pretty much dismissed. I can see that happening. In fact a Star Trek fan fic I'm working on the ship called the Valor's Edge while it's 20 decks tall a little bigger than Voyager pretty much the crew has been working together for so many years that they mostly call each other by their first names. My fan fic takes place in a slightly alternate reality. Where Voyager got home almost right after the Dominion War kicked off. Also thanks to Voyager Starfleet were able to make slipstream drives much sooner than established in games and such.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudiosSomehow that response made me think of Teal'c in "Stargate: SG-1" as that almost became his go-to response, ever see the franchise?
I've not read any of the Vanguard books, but I read the first Star Trek Seekers book, featuring the USS Sagittarius, with Tyrell from Wrath of Khan as the captain.
It'd be nice if someone would write a dedicated story about life aboard an Archer-class ship, beyond the Vanguard arc. They could even begin the story with a preamble: "Just sit right back and I'll tell a tale. A tale of a fateful trip. That started at a starbase port, aboard this tiny ship." Then again, that might be a bit too derivative. In any case, I've always thought that the Archers were....well, cute. Plus, with some stealth technology they might make for good recon scouts in contested regions of space. 🖖😎👍
One thought. I thought they stated in the Vanguard books they only had 6 torpedoes they had to manually load in the probe launcher? I recall the engineer… Illuci? Griping about having to lug torpedoes up from the cargo bay and manually load them. And hell haaaaa the captain has some of the best sass one liners in response to the Klingons ordering him to surrender. ‘Sir, the captain of the federation ship is suggesting you perform anatomically questionable intimate acts with your own mother’ … or something to that effect anyway. He was a good captain.
Saw a design on either PDSmith's or Euderion's DA gallery. She looks like the only Starfleet vessel actually designed to land on a planet, almost like a giant shuttlecraft and DA was definitely my introduction to this tiny little vessel
I hope the crew members weren't calling each other 'Bro'. I couldn't image a fate worse than being trapped in a little ship in deep space with a bunch of 'Bros'. I'd mutiny after the first week.
Bigger ships are always better for long range long term missions. Humans need the room and conveniences that bigger ships can provide. But when it comes to defensive and offensive combat operations, smaller and faster and nimbler and hard hitting ships are always better. The Spanish found that out the hard way when their large war ships took on the smaller English war ships in the English Channel and were decisively routed and only a handful survived to tell the story. And the American PT boats were the scourge of the Japanese fleet and in total might have sunk more military and commercial ships by number and tonnage than American ships of the line.
Love the design, the history sounds great, but the mentions of her confined status and "reconstitued" food remind me of the NX-class but with a crew compliment 2x that of an F-class shuttlecraft. The reconstituted food line immediately reminded me of both the protein resequencer from the NX-class and Adm. Vance's like to Osira about the food being cr4p; "You're people have a crude colloqualism." "No, it's reconsituted $h!t." Osira: almost gaags

I'm not a 3d Modeler, though I do create a lot of Starship designs through Kitbashing models together! I get models given to me by channel fans but have also collected them over the past 20 or so years! Once I have the 3d Model in Blender, I redo the textures so they can be used in 4K, then export the model with the textures into Space Engine and film the video clips!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios that's awesome. I dig the little flavor bits you add and I kinda want to start trying to 3d design things. Never done it before but why the hell not. Just found out about a site called Fractal sponge from a buddy of mine and it just looks so cathartic

@@TriAngulumAudioStudios oh i tend to consider myself well into the know when it comes to star trek, but i might have to go back and reread those books, haha.
It should noted that the ARCHER-class's main landing struts do retract so the pads are flush against the hull and the support struts are covered by those doors. I don't believe they were extended during normal flight operations. They also had a large egress ramp that was in the after portion of the ventral saucer hull. These were very cramped...when you figure in the warp core placement, the antimatter and deuterium storage, life support and weapon systems, and the impulse reactors, everything else was stored in corridor bulkheads and tucked away. It would have been very much like being on a sub. Wasn't this a Bill Krause design or did he just do the cut aways for it?
No problem, just in future Id request you ask about the model before making assumptions that I forgot or didn't bother to do the obvious! Lol Im not a 3d Modeler, and sometimes, like with this one, the Original Modeler doesnt allow for any modifications to their 3d Model making it impossible for me to retract the struts! I can only do, what I can do :)
Even on a ship that small I would find a way for each crew member has their own quarters even if those quarters are the size of a closet it's better than sharing quarters.
I make videos the length that my viewers actually want to watch! Sadly, putting the work in to longer videos is just a waste of time in today's day and age!
I like the idea that while not on patrol, that the bulk of the crew would reside on the facility that the ship was assigned to, but I think that a crew of 14 is a bit too small even for a small ship like this. I think that a crew of 16 would be more appropriate, allowing for Commander, XO, 2nd Officer and a single medic plus Helm, Tactical, Ops (communication, scanners etc) and Engineer to cover a standard 8 hour shift. With a smaller crew, it seems that you're either having crew double up on roles or work longer shifts. IMO, I would have one shift on the ship at all times (in rotation) as the ready crew, while the remaining crew (including the Medic) were at the designated facility. With 11 crew on base it would still only take 3 transporter runs to fully staff the ship. I could see omitting a dedicated medic, which would still allow 4 roles I envision, but I think that a 2nd officer is critical to minimize fatigue with the command crew.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios , I'll accept your crew size, but beyond the Commander and XO, was there any definition of the roles of the remaining crew? IF the ship is going to stay close to its assigned facility, I'll accept not really needing multiple watches, but IF it's away for more than a couple of days I can see potential issues with fatigue. Short of the Commander and XO, what other positions/roles do you envision for the crew in your Beta Canon? Also, how are your watches structured? 12 on 12 off?
Well a) It's not MY crew size, it's the OFFICIAL crew size... b) No and lastly, c) standard rotations are much smaller for this size of craft, see Runabouts as an example!~
