Love the final image. You are an inspiration. I do wish we had these types of piers on the Great Lakes, but with no tides, the piers are all vastly lower.
What i love about you with your images, is you for the most part always ask for our opinion unlike many others who just make out like it's their way or the highway and you can't say anything constructive about it. Now my favourite is actually the 2nd image.
IMHO this is great image, communicates volumes in nature, beauty and is inspiring, hence it works and works very well. The other capture is quite interesting. Thanks for sharing and how you accomplished this,
thought the final image was fabulous Gary and loved the additional image shot from the side too. The good thing was you had all the possible data captured so you have options based on your final preference
I think HDR and the fine art style work well together, it adds to it I think. I like it. But I do like detail. I will try it, thank you for your knowledge.
I've learned so much watching your videos - above all is the 'taking my time' lesson. Watching you is so relaxed and lacking any anxiety, it has taught me to give myself time and space when out taking photos.
Fantastic photos Gary. I can tell you that I prefer the one with the underside of the Pier with more light. The side view of the pier is super Gary. Quality work by a professional for sure.👌👌
I love the HDR addition. It really does bring out the otherwise lost dark details. I don’t think it takes away from the original shot, rather, it is more like what the human eye naturally adds in real time viewing to compensate for the dark areas. After all, as good as modern cameras are, they can’t do what the human eye does. At least, not without help in post, LoL!
The HDR added is nice. Enjoyed seeing your post process for the final image and would love to see more of your videos that includes post processing. It's like a bonus learning chip for me. Great video.
wow new here born in suffolk now live in brisbane australia you have help so much just making the whole process realy enjoyable yes images real art gary i am chaseing you maybe there is a way to show some of what we get here down under
Hell's Teeth Gary - absolutely fabulous photos - I just can't get to grips with this post processing - but my oh my the benefits of being able to post process is fully demonstrated by your good self and the end results are amazing.
This is exactly why for me you stand head and shoulders above many other vloggers Gary. Not only do you break the practical and theoretical aspects down into to bite size chunks, but you then go onto explain why you have chosen that particular method, before explaining other ways in which the viewer can achieve the desired results. As for the images., well they really do speak for themselves, brilliant.
I feel it works, providing it remains in the category of realistic. The image you have created by dialling back the opacity of the blended layer works.
Really like the HDR finished photograph and will definitely try it. Unfortunately, I like the last image to the side of the Pier much more. But as you said, that's personal preference.
Gary, as always, your work is amazing! Your depth of knowledge and your expertise is virtually unmatched by other RUclipsrs. I really like your fine art work no matter how you achieve it. Excellent video.
Hi Gary, I prefer the use of HDR for under the bridge, what a difference it made. I loved the last image of the pier and the stumps,it was super and I am gonna guess that was without the HDR treatment. Oh yes, and I prefer the shot under the pier with the extra bits the way you finally chose it to be, as soon as you started I was like “oh no Gary you must keep them in,they make for a far more complete image” , thankfully you seen the light (no pun intended lol). Excellent video, one I was deeply engrossed in from start to finish, thank you 😁👍
Nice and Yes, I very much like it. Small tip I picked up on youtube somewhere is to pack 3 old CDs and put your tripod on top of that on sandy soil or beaches. During a trip to Madeira I also have been experimenting with focus stacking and exposure blending: take a short exposure of a flower in the foreground and blend that with a long exposure of the seascape in the background also gives very nice results
This is my first video of yours that I have seen. First, I think you are a very good teacher. I use a completely different camera/software and had no problem following the concepts presented. For my money, the HDR addition adds more leading lines to your focal point (that tiny triangle in the middle) and adds to it. But I also REALLY like the other shot of the pier that you showed. Its time for me to get a nice filter kit like you use and start playing around. It really does not take that much longer to take the extra shots and then make decisions back home in the studio nor does it take that much extra time to move the camera around seeing if there is a better composition. When I started photography it was with a 4x5 camera and extra shots were pricey! With unlimited memory we really can experiment more (and should!).
Great vlog Jason. You surprised me once again with this method (which I didn't know yet). I usually use NIK HDR, but will give your method a try. Thank you!!!
Great video Gary, I love your fine art work. I use 3 Legged Thing spikes on my Gitzo as tripods tend to use the same thread size and gauge and they work well, Simon Baxter has done the same. I know they wouldn't have worked in this situation but they are great for soft ground and rocks. 3 Legged Thing Vanz Set of 3 Spikes + Rubber Feet, these are the ones and they have removable rubber feet.
Gary, for fine art photography there is no one else out there that i follow or take advice from. Your images & guidance are top draw my friend. I am a novice photographer but i am taking so much onboard from your videos & its helping me a great deal. This video like all others is amazing
Enjoyed your video, thank you. I do like to see detail and not just dark or black areas. The only part I kept looking at, and it’s just as it is, is the first leg on right hand side which is darker and more weather worn than the others. Just as it is.
Brilliant Gary, your enthusiasm is so infectious. I am just getting into Long Exposure photography, oh and after 3 trips to the Mach Loop I got some crackers. Thanks again.
Gary, you work has inspired me to look at all aspects and not just focus on one spectrum of photography. Thank you for sharing your skills and talents with the world!
Once again a fantastic video on fine art photography the way you detailed all the work and the end results are excellent. It is great watching how you approach the task and complete it with little fuss a total masterclass series.
Another really good and thought provoking video Gary. I think taking the over exposed shot increasing your options so making it a good idea. Then it's just down to personal taste if or how you use it.
Love the final image Gary. I think people that still have reservations with HDR need to remember that it is simply a tool to increase detail precision and reduce noise in the shadows, and is a means-to-an-end for the 3+ stops shortfall between the dynamic range of our cameras and that of our visual system. We've all seen bad examples of HDR, such as when a post-sunset sky meets a daytime foreground, but if you can composite well and sell the effect as realistic then it's a valuable tool that yields cleaner, better-detailed images.
I wasn't sure I would like this, but it turns out, it worked really well, I like the juxtaposition of the water with all the detail lost to the long exposure, alongside the pier with all of the detail being available to the viewer. I always look forward to your next videos, always inspirational and educational.
The last shot is my favourite - fantastic composition with the foreground interest. The HDR layer was essential imho.
Cheers Peter 👍👍
@@GaryGough by the way: when I was at Skye I stayed at Rachel’s B&B. She also seems to be a big fan of you :)
Love the final image. You are an inspiration. I do wish we had these types of piers on the Great Lakes, but with no tides, the piers are all vastly lower.
I'm sure they're picturesque in their own right 👍👍
Works for me Gary, nice work! Thanks for sharing.
What really motivates to go out and take pictures like this, is your genuine happiness while doing this :-)
It's really about being away from the wife but shhh mums the word 😁
Absolutely love your fine art, Gary - bowled over by the HDR - thank you.
Thank you Heather 👍👍
What i love about you with your images, is you for the most part always ask for our opinion unlike many others who just make out like it's their way or the highway and you can't say anything constructive about it.
Now my favourite is actually the 2nd image.
The art form has to be subjective, no matter the photographer or RUclipsr.
Cheers Rob 👍👍
I love it....the lightness under it makes it feel as if the pier is floating 🙂👍
M.A.S.T.E.R of fine art !
Cheers Richie 👍👍
As Mali said.
A masterclass from start to finish.
The last image's I thought were amazing.
Another great job Gary.
Cheers Tim 👍
I really like the 45 degree view with those other groins in the foreground
Cheers 👍👍
I like it with the second layer put to it. I straightens the view and fosters imagination stronger than without it. Great work Gery.
As always spot on by a master of long exposure.
Cheers Ralph 👍👍
Love these images, love your dedication to your art too where composition and perfection trumps wet feet.
IMHO this is great image, communicates volumes in nature, beauty and is inspiring, hence it works and works very well. The other capture is quite interesting. Thanks for sharing and how you accomplished this,
Cheers Michael 👍👍
I personally do like the extra detail, excellent work. And the second shot is very nice as well.
Brilliant Gary, love the final image of the pier with the lighting effects.
From start to finish, a masterclass! I wish my long exposure series was coming along as good lol Brilliant Gary
I'm sure, in fact, I know they are Mr Davies. About that date in the diary? come on get it sorted! 😁
Very easy to follow video. Entertaining and informative also. Thanks for teaching us.
My pleasure!
Love it! Absolutely worth doing. Thanks for sharing your vision.
Cheers 👍
Just love the details .. and the light
Thanks Jan 👍👍
Superb Gary and I’m a lover of HDR so this one is right up my street 👍🏽
Cheers Steve 👍👍
I really like the finished image and the side view was a wow for me. Agreed fine art and HDR do work for us that appreciate photographic art.
Cheers Ian 👍
Great work Gary. I enjoy seeing the combination in the final photo.

Another magical piece of work Gary

Oh cool :) It is indeed a cracking place. 👍👍
Fantastic final image! I always learn from you! I think the HDR really made a positive difference!Thank You!
My grandad worked at the Steetley for almost 40 years!
Nothing wrong with any of it, Gary. Beautiful images!
Yes like the image Gary , 👍 really enjoy your channel. , Best wishes.
Many thanks, Cheer Andy 👍👍

Great video as always Gary. Thanks for the tips. Very interesting 👍😊🙏
Thanks Cath 👍👍
@@GaryGough Your welcome Gary. Looking forward to the next video. Have agreat week .👍😊📸

Hi Gary, I think the addition of HDR works well on this image. I actually preferred the brighter version myself. Cheers Russ
Love the images! You make it look easy! Thanks for sharing.
I love these fine art photography! Thank you charing your art and knowledge Gary 🤗
Cheers David 👍👍
Well done and thank you. Really liked the last image, beautiful job.🤩
I'm rewatching all the videos, Gary and they are even more inspiring on second viewing. You have re-invigorated my love of photography
Then all my hard work has just paid off. 👍👍
I reckon it is worth adding the extra element, and certainly to have the option to do so.
This was absolutely stunning. Wish I were you!
Think carefully about what you’re saying, if you were me you’d have to live with my wife and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone 😂😂
Great video, with all the essential techniques clearly explained.

done similar but kept in colour, I like the affect, seems to work well on cloudy days with water in the foreground
Great image Gary, really like the HDR effect. But the final image is fantastic!!
Very much like your final creation. I’ve often wondered about hdr. Think I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the clear explanation as always. Aloha!
Thanks Michael 👍👍
Thanks as ever Gary. The addition of the HDR works for me. Also the last photo shot across the groynes is stunning.
