Watching this in the theater was insane. The sound effects are what made it. I was at the edge of my seat from beginning to end!! Honestly my favorite horror movie in YEARS
@tomkat2182 This film grossed over 146 million worldwide in theaters, so wherever you're talking about is some isolated and inconsequential area that is not representative of essentially the rest of the world.
I don't think it took "genuine offense". I just think the demon is just sadistic/psychotic as hell and loves throwing things back at people or using their own words/fears/insecurities/etc against them. Hence, it's entire dialogue in the apartment.
@@gusy629 The demon from this edition of the Necronomicon is called The Marauder. If you look up the definition of a marauder, especially the Biblical meaning, it speaks for itself and gives more context to why this demon is far more psychological and calculating playing with it's victims unlike the previous film where the demon was focused solely on killing all 5 as fast and as brutal as possible.
Fun fact: The mom has tattoos of branches/vines on her arms and legs representing the other Evil Dead movie where the girl gets attacked in the bunches of vines.
It's not just call back to the previous movie, it was a call back to the original branches and vines scene in the original Evil Dead as well as in part 2.
Fun fact about the series: the incantation is slightly different in each movie and a popular fan theory is that those changes account for the demon being slightly different in each film.
Fun Fact: There's a behind the scenes video circulating of the actress who plays Bridget crawling off the counter top onto the floor. The whole time watching the movie I thought it was cgi because of how smooth her transition from counter to floor was.
Bruce Campbell is featured in an uncredited voice-only cameo role heard in a recording on one of the phonograph records from 1923 as Campbell voices an unnamed character who forewarns the priests to the dangers of the demon resurrection ritual. Writer-director Cronin stated that he had Campbell voice this role intentionally stating that he considers it to be a time-displaced Ash Williams.
Wait so I knew the deadites in this film were different than the ones in the other movie but didn’t know they had a specific name and is it a single demon possessing multiple ppl or multiple demons?

After Army of darkness, Ash tumbling about the time line warning people about the book of the dead. Tracks in the best way for me, thanks for sharing this piece of trivia.

One of my favorite things about the Evil Dead franchise is that they not only embraced the "bad decisions in horror movies" trope....they perfected it. "Oh look! I'm a huge Evil Dead fan and was so pumped when I first heard they were making another movie. I actually watched this on the release day in the cinema, and I'm glad I did too. There is actually quite a large following for Evil Dead, and of course Bruce Campbell. For people who don't really know the actual background, there are multiple demons, most of which go unamed, so the possession demon in this is kind of funny because it actually takes offence at certain things because they haven't used the same one from the cabin. I also know Bruce played a hand in the story and production since he's also a big fan of the franchises. They can also create multiple movies because if they actually follow the story correctly, there is only one sure way to destroy the book: send it back to its original origins. I personally would have liked to see Baal or a mention of the dark ones; both of these individuals played a huge role in creating the book itself, and out of all the dark ones, Baal is the most powerful demon who can shape shift amongst many of his powers. If you haven't watched the TV show Ash vs. Evil Dead, it's worth a watch, pretty entertaining, and actually goes deep into the book's history and characters.

Loved this movie….though Nikki….I was worried about the gore for you lol. You guys always have my fav reactions, glad y’all watched this! Also cool side note one of the background voices on the vinyls Danny grabs is Bruce Campbell! Lots of cool shots and cool nods to the original trilogy
The eye ball thing was a direct reference to Evil Dead 2 when Bobby Joe gets the possessed mom's eyeball in her mouth and runs off into the woods to get killed. Also, the Evil Dead 2013 used way more fake blood than this movie; 70,000 gallons (50,000 gallons just for the blood rain scene alone) versus 1.7 gallons in EDR...
GUESS WHAT?? This movie is in fact NOT a sequel to the remake in 2013. It is actually the long awaited sequel to the Original Evil Dead movies. Evil Dead 2 ended with the main character Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) getting sucked into the past era of 1300 AD. Also, side note Bruce Campbell is the guy that made the cameo at the end of the 2013 movie that you reacted to before. He's the guy that says 'Groovy' because it's that's just what Ash Williams says! The first movies are still fun to watch and have become cult classics to the horror genre. While yes they did rely on makeup and special FX, they still have well timed jump scares are still creepy AF. LOVE you guy's reaction to this. Yes I saw that Nikki was grabbing your arm pretty strong!! LOL
3:47 I remember a story I was told at school before working with lathes of someone that managed to get their hair stuck in one while it was on. It quite literally scalped their head, they stopped the machine, got the top of their hair into a bag and went to seek medical help and they managed to re-attach it. I guess this just shows how strong these demons are, granted then you later on have the demon get stopped by a simple door that one should easily be able to kick in so maybe scalping someone is easy or maybe the demon just got stronger over the course of the movie.
If you want to watch a very scary TV series, watch, Penny Dreadful. It's only 3 seasons long and has some great actors in it, Eve Green, Timothy Dalton and others.
SPOILERS fun fact about the eye eating part 27:35, they got that sound effect used in that scene where she bites into him from one of their directors violently biting into an apple and slightly altering the sound to make it sound juicier
The first book was in the first three films. The second book was in the 2013 film and the third book is an evil dead rise, if you watched Army of darkness, you’ll remember there were three books presented to Ash.
This movie was SO FUN!!! They had created this movie for TV and after good reception from the test viewers, they decided to move it to theaters and was a BANGER sucssess... Good for them... The mom actreess killed that performance!
Two things that astound me about this movie's events. #2. It's in a High Rise Deco Los Angeles CA Apartment that more like a building found in the ghettos of East L.A. #1......they have the most complacent neighbors ever because no one in the lower floor peeked out to checkout the noise the crashed elevator made, no one heard all the blood curdling screaming or the deadites jumping around and dropping hard on the floor. Here in L.A. someone can sneeze and the neighbors will hear you.
I see how this movie seems bloodier than the 2013 one with some scenes but the last one still holds the world record for bloodiest movie ever made; the blood rain sequence had them using like 50,000+ gallons over 3 days of shooting with these HUGE hoses that would be dousing the entire front yard of the cabin.
I just finished the movie, and I laughed more than I was scared cause I love the Evil Dead insults. Plus all of the callbacks to the originals also made me love this movie. From the Ellies tattoos to the broomstick being the same model as Ash's
Death by dawn would totally make a great name for a rock band. Love this movie. The cinematography, the two leading performances, the sound effects especially the summons scene, the family setting, and the gore and scares are top-notch.
I loved the reaction. Poor Nikki seemed so stressed. I know you were worried about Kassie's actress. The director actually let the little girl play in the fake blood so she could get used to it and not be scared. Also, you talked about how you think the sequel will introduce the third book. This is actually the third Necronomicon. The first one was discovered in the original Evil Dead trilogy from the 80's. Most of the references in Rise are from that trilogy, including the swallowing of the eye and the "dead by dawn" line. Dead by Dawn is actually the name of the second Evil Dead movie. You should definitely check out the series, the original three are campy, fun, and have amazing practical effects. There's also a TV series called Ash vs Evil Dead from 2015 that follows the life of the main character from the original trilogy. The first Evil Dead movie actually helped spawn the "Cabin In The Woods" genre of horror movies. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Love your reactions.
If I'm not mistaken, the amount of blood from 2013 wasn't topped in terms of gallons of blood that were used, but it was a lot more functionally used than just rain. I liked this quite a bit more.
The eye flying into a person's mouth was a call back to Evil Dead II. The 2013 remake took the eyeball gag from Evil Dead II. Have you guys seen the original Evil Dead and ED II?
I feel like the one before was a better film but this one is just a good time. The demon would say some of the worst things imaginable to a family member.
I remember the other movies having a good amount of humor mixed in. So I was in for a surprise when this was just straight up scary and gory. Still a very good movie
This is my new favorite horror movie. Love all the callbacks to the original Evil Dead movies. I saw the original with my mom when I was a kid. I took my kids to see this one. We all enjoyed it. Soooooo good.
Fun fact: Director Lee Cronin stated in an interview that 6,500 liters (or 1,720 gallons) of fake blood were used for the movie. P.S. this is not a spoiler.
You're trapped down a hallway and your path is blocked by a Deadite on one end and a Cenobite on the other end. Which are you taking your chances with if you had to get by one of them?
Yeeey I was waiting for your reaction to that movie. Saw it in the theatre and loved it, i think even more than the first one. Great reaction as always!
Having watched the original movies with Bruce Campbell, but not the previous one. I really enjoyed this one, hopefully a restart for the Evil Dead movies. I wonder what Nikki's heart rate level was during this reaction.
one of the best cold opens i have ever seen. also, i love the fact that there are 3 books of the dead in the movie, to represent the 3 timelines (evil dead 1, 2, ash vs evil dead/ 2013/evil dead rise). i need to see more from this director. also, i have a rule, i can believe in this sh*t... doesnt mean i'd f*** with it
An earthquake opens a whole into the ground that leads into a gnarly, old bank safe? Yes, back in the day my friends and I would have SO crawled down into that. We also were not all that smart when we were teens.
I'd love to see you react to the original Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness. As I understand it, they now consider all the movies to be in the same timeline, so if you want to see the third book you haven't seen, that's where you'll get it. Also, you'll catch all the references and beats these share with those films!
I wish I could say this film measured up to the 2013 movie. But, it doesn't. This film holds back from going in hard on several occasions. The 2013 film doesn't hold back a millimeter, ever.
You all really need to see the original 3 movies with Bruce Campbell. These and the previous movies contain tons of callbacks to those movies including the eye ball scene. the original is a horror movie, the 2nd one is half horror/half comedy and the 3rd just ridiculous but funny as well. Also all the Evil Dead movies are connected in some way. The things the deadites say such as "Join Us" and "Dead by Dawn" are sayings from the original 3 movies. Deadites are what the demons are called within the Evil Dead movies. "Come get Some" was originally said by Bruce Campbell in ED3: Army of Darkness. The 3 Book of the Deads aka the Necronomicon have already been shown. the original book from the Bruce Campbell movies (even though the book has a different look in each movie it's supposed to be the same one). the 2nd book in the previous movie and now the 3rd book in this movie.
I actually feel like they intentionally made this their "Dead By Dawn" of the 2013 continuity... -more humor/campy gore -summoning the entity by playing a recording, rather than reading the incantation aloud -"swallow your soul"/screaming "dead by dawn" -the eyeball -Ellie singing a lullaby song -the pizza box said "Henrietta's Pizza" There's a lot more callbacks, I won't list everything.

If you haven't watched the TV show Ash vs. Evil Dead, it's worth a watch, pretty entertaining, and actually goes deep into the book's history and characters.
what did it take offense to?
@@NYC_Goody basically the girls was shit talking and for some reason the demon actually responded to these comments quite negatively lol which is a first
@@Swift926 you're talking about the very beginning with the meat puppet? I think it was just a deadite saying deadite shit. In other words, taunting the victim. I dunno
She shouldve won ao many awards. She aced this performance.
in army of darkness [the third movie in the original trilogy] it's stated there are 3books of the dead.
so evil dead 1 - 2 and AoD is the 1st book
evil dead 2013 is the 2nd book
evil dead rise is the 3rd book
this explains why each book looks different [as in not redesigned] and why the deadites look / act somewhat different.
it's also been confirmed that all of these movies [original and the new] occur within the same universe.
Lol she can take the gore.
This was the best version out of all so far but nothing will ever top the original
Nah, I laughed way to much during it.
Was definitely missing that something to make me even care unfortunately
LOL
“It’s like a Last of Us boss” pretty on the money Steve. It’s very reminiscent of the Rat King in TLOU2
There's a Boss fight in The Evil Within that's very like the one in this movie and that Game did it years before TLOU2 😅
Nikki is absolutely going to hate this so much! I can see her not maybe finishing this one lol.
I'm genuinely surprised she sat through it all, especially considering how she always is with kids in movies or shows dying.
I know everyone gets mad at the kid but that’s exactly what any teenager would do.
Dorian Gray is 🔥🔥🔥
I freaking love Eva Green and Penny Dreadful is amazing.
I don't remember penny dreadful being scary though
I was passed that the series ended
I love this show, but I don't remember being scary though.
SPOILERS
fun fact about the eye eating part 27:35, they got that sound effect used in that scene where she bites into him from one of their directors violently biting into an apple and slightly altering the sound to make it sound juicier
This movie is by far my favorite out of the franchise! 😈
i still like the 2013 the best.
To answer your question Steven "why do demons cut with personal stuff" is because they are familiar spirits. They observe us and know our weaknesses.
Ngl i honestly cant dislike any of the Evil Dead movies. This one was just unique and good in its own way!💕
Good reaction btw!
The movie just made a Lilo and Stitch reference with the nail on the vinyl and playing the sound via the mouth lol
I see how this movie seems bloodier than the 2013 one with some scenes but the last one still holds the world record for bloodiest movie ever made; the blood rain sequence had them using like 50,000+ gallons over 3 days of shooting with these HUGE hoses that would be dousing the entire front yard of the cabin.
yea I’m thinking he might not remember the blood rain?? if the movie didn’t have the blood rain sequence then Rise 100% would have had more blood
They used 6500 liters (or 1717 gallons) of fake blood in Evil Dead Rise.
In the movie the hallway scene was the funniest and best part. Also, the kid who got thrown got both his arms ripped off.
Have you guys seen the original Evil Dead and ED II?
love the split diopter shots used throughout.
The unwanted pregnancy was the scariest part of the movie
Hii
16:22: I remember Ash back then saying "hold it! Nobody said anything about THREE books!"
If 70's horror movie came out today, it would be like this, pure entertainment.
Story line, never change.
Catch 22 situation 😆 you're screwed either way 😆
Yeeey I was waiting for your reaction to that movie. Saw it in the theatre and loved it, i think even more than the first one. Great reaction as always!
Got this on dvd the other day literally I love this movie it’s amazing probably the scariest most goriest Evil Dead in the Franchise!
Having watched the original movies with Bruce Campbell, but not the previous one. I really enjoyed this one, hopefully a restart for the Evil Dead movies. I wonder what Nikki's heart rate level was during this reaction.
one of the best cold opens i have ever seen. also, i love the fact that there are 3 books of the dead in the movie, to represent the 3 timelines (evil dead 1, 2, ash vs evil dead/ 2013/evil dead rise). i need to see more from this director. also, i have a rule, i can believe in this sh*t... doesnt mean i'd f*** with it
This is my favorite horror of the year so far hands down, amazing theater experience.. Great reaction
She managed to pick up her friend and drive to the cabin after being possessed? I'd love to see that. Great video. guys, watching from Norway.
To answer your question, yes its a good movie. It was a lot of fun and it knew exactly what it was doing.
An earthquake opens a whole into the ground that leads into a gnarly, old bank safe? Yes, back in the day my friends and I would have SO crawled down into that. We also were not all that smart when we were teens.
15:30 The recording says it’s believed to be just 1 of the 3 books of the dead. So this implies there’s 3 necronomicons??? Woah 😮
If yout take a shot every time Nikki says "Oh my God" you are in the ICU halfway through this reaction. 🤣
Both of the main actresses are Australian & yup one of them is from Vikings. Really enjoyed you're reaction.
"EYE don't know"........Nikki had the best 'laugh+disgust' face. Good Stuff.
-more humor/campy gore
-summoning the entity by playing a recording, rather than reading the incantation aloud
-"swallow your soul"/screaming "dead by dawn"
-the eyeball
-Ellie singing a lullaby song
-the pizza box said "Henrietta's Pizza"
There's a lot more callbacks, I won't list everything.
Oh yeah, "come get some" was from Ash fighting Deadite Henrietta in ED2
That’s Bruce campbells voice on the records, love that they got him to do it!
I like the concept of the last movie where the guy find the book and now the kid
By the way, the director confirmed that the kitty survived.
I swear, we need a "bitch" and "hell no" counter for Nikki 😂😂
4.48 I just love how we’re really excited and appreciating the opening title card because it really is one of the best!!! 🔥🔥🔥
the actors will done a good job especially the little girl, the best, bravooo.
The kids playing dangerously at the beginning reminded me of my Dad and I playing as a kid a game we called "catch my knife"
The way you two interact is just like my wife and I. Including the attempted scare and the threat of fake choking lol
The main actress in this is everything and more! Plus her cheekbones are killer! ❤❤
This was such a great movie. Especially if you're a fan of horror movies and the Evil Dead franchise.
We already seen all 3 books. The one Ash has, the book from the 2013 reboot & this one.
