I love this movie. The Medeiros girl is played by a male actor, in fact. Javier Botet. He is a Spanish actor who has a syndrome that makes him look very particular: he is very tall and has very long and thin arms and legs. He usually plays roles of this type in horror movies. He has appeared, for example, in movies like Mamá, Slender Man, Crimson Peak, and I think in some of the movies from the Insidious and The Conjuring saga. By the way, great reaction. I'll be honest, I miss the found footage style movies, it feels like you're in the movie with the characters and all, Troll Hunter is also pretty good :) the sequels for these movies actually start to stray away from found footage styles out of nowhere and I didn't like that, others did but I didn't lol
Also that final girl is practical, she was played by Javier Botet, who's this really slender guy, he was also the Crooked Man in the Conjuring, he was the creature in the Mama movie, he was Slender man, he says he has a disease called Marfan Syndrome that makes people lanky, skinny and felxible, it's nice to see him use that to be a monster actor.

I speak spanish, also there is layer in the interpretations, 'cuz there are many accents from different countries, like the argentinean guy speaks as high of himself, the chinese people speak broken spanish, the spanish people that talk as high status or low status, the medic speaks as he usually uses latin but he is trying spanish so just by hearing him you can tell he is not a doctor but a priest from the Vatican. So you can tell a lot of the characters background just by hearing them.

I HIGHLY recommend checking out Noroi, it's a Japanese found footage/mockumentary style horror movie on the opposite spectrum of this movie in the way that it's much more of a slow burner as opposed to an anxiety inducing non-stop stress fest, but it's equally as compelling and eerie imo!

36:17 It's real, in fact the name of the actor was Javier Botet who also has roles in a lot of horror movies like mama. There are making of videos of him having the makeup.
As a huge fan of these movies, it's so great to see more people appreciating this movie. Watch REC 2 which is subjective but to me, it complements the first movie. Also, REC 3 is before and in between the events of 1. REC 4 is the direct continuation of REC 2 which I don't enjoy that much, but it's nice to see for the characters and horror itself, just the essence of 3 and 4 that are very different from their predecessors.

The scares felt so intense and real because most of the time the director just gave pointers just to the people who needed them. For example told the zombies they had to run after whoever came up the stairs or just told the actress in the protag role that she has to go here or there but didn't tell her what was going to happen.

I absolutely LOVE the sound design and sound mixing on this movie. It's so raw and jarring, and it really feels like the camera's microphone is barely able to handle the intensity of what's happening around them. Far too many "found footage" movies have grainy images but super-high-end sound effects that don't match at all, and it always pulls me out of the experience a bit.

I grew up in a wooden house but have only lived in apartment buildings since moving out from my parents' place. I definitely feel 'safer' inside the apartment buildings 'cause you can always knock on a neighbour's door if something feels amiss, but this movie definitely challenges that feeling of 'safety'!
