Fun Fact 1: The dvd has a found footage story in the special features that chronicles Andy's side of the story during his time in the Gun Shop from the beginning to when he is bitten.
Andy's such a tragic character. Right when he finally gets hope, talks to the group for the first time, gets to talk to Kenneth, all that, only for that to be when he gets bit.
I remember in the DVD special features, there was two sort-of videos/short films: one about "Andy's Recording" while he was in the gun shop, and another was "We Interrupt This Program" (I believe it was called) about one of the news anchor who was reporting on the zombie spread. They were so good!
I think the reason the husband turned so quickly in the beginning is because he died quickly. He was bitten in a spot that would kill you almost instantly. If you get bitten in your arm or something you’ll probably die slower from the infection and then you turn.
Its also based on size. Luda's bite was small, as if the zombies teeth cut her like a knife would. So it took her 2 to 3 days to turn, while the Dad's bite happened when they got into the truck, and it was a bigger bite, so its assumed the Zombie latched on to him and was able to bite more, thats why he turned the same day, same for the Fat Lady. Michael probably would've survived until they reached the island, then he would've turned, considering how big his bite was. So if Lewis at the beginning had bit bitten in the same spot, but smaller, he would've probably survived with Anna, until the car crash, where he would've died and turned.

Same! It sounds insane now, especially after the amazing “28” series cemented “fast zombies,” but this was really groundbreaking and shocking back in the day, seeing zombies that could actually run. Definitely shook up the genre in a great way (I also adore OG slow zombies too!) Fast zombies probably existed in fiction already, but this was definitely alot of people’s first time seeing it, and it la great🙂
I remember being so pissed that C.J. died. He was such a good guy, always trying to protect them. And Michael who is bit, stays until the very end. He should've been the one to stay behind and gave them a chance to get a way, leaving C.J. alive to help take care of the group. They could've really used C.J. since the only other good shot was Ving Rymes.
@@Burstify maybe maybe not. They don't show them dieing. So it's up to the individual to make up what happened. And they could have very well got away as they were heading back to the boat. @@Burstify chips. @@TiredMoonRabbit Well you're wrong. It's easily a top 10 Zombie movie. The original just so happens to be - arguably - the best Zombie movie ever made.
@@Helldog6 I was there as a kid to see the original NOTD on TV, and watched the first Dawn in the best premiere venue ever: a midnight show in a mall theater. Snyder's reimaging had it's own tone which was fine. The most awesome pre-credits opening I've seen in a long time. But I grew with George Romero, and even got to talk with him at a con not long before he passed away. Sad, because we'd exchanged e-mail and promised to keep in touch.
The director's commentary to this movie is really fun to listen to, you can tell Snyder had a blast making this movie because it was one of his earlier productions and there wasn't a lot of pressure riding on him. It's especially satisfying because of the success this movie would bring him later on.
If you seen zombie movies, I’m looking for one where a man and woman are walking down train tracks and than it jump cuts to them both dead being eaten by zombies
That section in the tunnels is Aliens - Newt in the water, Gorman & Vaszuez' last stand, the armored truck breaking out thru the complex doors as Ripley shouts "Hold on". The music is even very Goldsmith.

The song Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash was so epic of a choice. It fits soooooo well. Especially when you realize the one person immune is the holy guy.

This movie also just goes to show that if you can make it entertaining enough, fast zombies are the way to go. This movie at times could've had a Left 4 Dead quality to it and I appreciate that.

My cousin lived in the Seattle area when there was several day power outage caused by a rare winter blast storm. Sometimes the arctic air streams comes due south, but it's rare, so people aren't prepared for it. People in the area went to the local mall to escape the cold because it had power.
I saw this in theaters with my 7th grade best friend. I accidentally farted at the quiet scene when she put her ear to the bathroom door. We had nachos and I don’t do well with cheese. I was embarrassed but everyone in the theater laughed. It was great. The movie was even better. 10/10 for me.

It actually takes place around Milwaukee, WI. The original took place in Pittsburgh. EDIT: The dude in the tv was in the original, as was the Gun World Guy.
"You got red on you🤣" . Has now also shown me the parallel to Shaun of the Dead. Michael is just as much a TV salesman as Shaun. Sometimes it actually takes years to find even more connections. Thank you very much for that.

Such a legendary movie! Never get tired of it at all. Such a great cast too made up not of Hollywood A-listers but rather Hollywood journeymen and character actors who are still excellent quality in their own right. Ving Rhames (Kenneth), Mekhi Phifer (Andre), Jake Weber (Michael), Michael Kelly (CJ), Ty Burrell (Steve), Matt Frewer (Frank)… all brilliant actors and together in a film like this, made the experience even more awesome and the viewer to watch.
This movie terrifies me. So glad you guys enjoyed it! If you can find it online or on dvd the dvd had special features that were in universe news broadcast like what was in the opening montage and it just escalated the realness/scary aspect for me.
46:38 The mall was actually a character itself in the original. Every crook & cranny. Every hallway & escalator was a big part of the adventure. There’s even a montage with silly sound effects as they’re turning the power on, lol
If you like this at all, you should REALLY check out "The Crazies" with Timothy Olyphant. It's a brilliant remake...better than the original, so much so it could almost be considered it's own creation! Look into it...I promise not to steer you wrong! It kinda slipped the public. But was brilliant in the theater! ❤️🎬👍
I’m honestly surprised nobody in the comments has brought up the video game Dead Rising. A lot of the setting was so similar that they explicitly state on the box art, “This game was not developed, approved or licensed by the owners or creators of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.”
First 30 Days of Night, then The Last Samurai and now Dawn Of The Dead?! Thank you for recently reacting to some of my favorite movies OF ALL TIME. I’m in reaction heaven lol
I agree, mall would have a lot of everything, but wouldn't that also be the major problem?? I mean, far too many points of entry. Although with enough prep time a solid group COULD reorganize everything they need into a smaller more contained space. Use hardware supplies for generators and tools; furniture stores for living accommodations; focus on completely isolating the grocery store for maximum food storage. Then empty out all the other stores and blockade off the corridors and you might just have a valid shelter. But you'd have to patch in the building's power into a focused section and make sure that it is always free on zombies. Essentially you'd need a little bit of every kind of person. Definitely a handy man.
It seems like they rehearsed this for months. That would be the case today. But then, all we had to do was keep that beautiful rhythm and fall in love with the music. Everything else just flows. That's the Soul. You feel it and flow
I forget what it was on, but someone described the opening of this movie as like so good that you forget you haven’t even seen the opening credits yet like you already feel like you’ve been watching the movie for like 20 to 30 minutes. And maybe a 10 minute sequence.
Wildest part of the movie to me, is the Delta Force (i think that's what I heard the soldiers in the whitehouse segment were) just opening fire on the ENITRE PRESS CORPS for one person, clearly not infected, coming up to ask questions.

you like army of mutants?? (i refuse to call that garbage movie a zombie film)
@@Richardwho-vv5bh yes and what you talking about? it’s literally a zombie movie. I feel like if people love this remake of Dawn of the dead then they would definitely love Army of the dead
@@donavinrodriguez6288 compared this masterpiece remake with that garbage snyder movie is like compared the godfather with sharknado (and even sharknado is a much better movie than army of mutants.
@@Richardwho-vv5bh it’s fine that you don’t like the movie at all but cmon dude to compare it too Sharknardo and say that movie is better than Army of the dead is beyond a ridiculous statement.
@@Richardwho-vv5bhthis is not a masterpiece in anyway shape or form, this movie is absolutely terrible and an insult to the original.
I was 13 when I saw this in 04’ and it was the absolute scariest movie I had ever seen. What made it horrifying was that this was the first time I had ever seen FAST zombies, and not just fast but absolutely agro.
But it was also funny at times like how they were shooting all the zombie celebrities.😂
After watching Shaun of the dead in 06’ (roughly same age 13 -15) I though Dawn of the dead was the same thing, it clearly was not the same thing 😂😂
Same! It sounds insane now, especially after the amazing “28” series cemented “fast zombies,” but this was really groundbreaking and shocking back in the day, seeing zombies that could actually run. Definitely shook up the genre in a great way (I also adore OG slow zombies too!) Fast zombies probably existed in fiction already, but this was definitely alot of people’s first time seeing it, and it la great🙂
On the DVD Special Features, they had a video journal made by Andy, up until the time he was bit.
They would've died either way once they reached the island
@@Burstify maybe maybe not. They don't show them dieing. So it's up to the individual to make up what happened. And they could have very well got away as they were heading back to the boat. They went their because they were running out of fuel. So they could have easily have gotten away. I myself hate cliff hanger movies since it doesn't rap up anything and just leaves you wondering. Since it's eluded that they got away but their fates are just left in up in the air.
@@oceankuhn7215 Only one who for sure survived was the dog skips
@@Burstify chips. But yes.....as I said the directors just left it up to the audience to decide what happened. it's kinda like in the walking dead when Morales leaves and everyone kept asking about him so they brought him back as a way to tell people 'Now you know his fate'. And knowing that the dog at least survived is what most people hope in these movies lol.
@@oceankuhn7215 yeee 🙃
I can’t believe you guys have never seen this glorious masterpiece of a zombie film. If you’ve never seen 28 Days Later, I also HIGHLY recommend that film for the channel at some point!
If you've seen the original you wouldn't call this a masterpiece, trust me.
@@TiredMoonRabbitStill, it's a worthy remake...
@@JohnDAmico-ci2hz if you think so that's fine, I just don't
One of my absolute favorite zombie movie endings too. It ended badly, as a zombie apocalypse only could, and in a unique way that fits the film well.
If you seen zombie movies, I’m looking for one where a man and woman are walking down train tracks and than it jump cuts to them both dead being eaten by zombies
@@PrederNationteam74 oh my god, I have no clue what movie it is but I can vividly see that scene. I swear I’ve seen that before.
That section in the tunnels is Aliens - Newt in the water, Gorman & Vaszuez' last stand, the armored truck breaking out thru the complex doors as Ripley shouts "Hold on". The music is even very Goldsmith.
This and Train to Busan are my ALL TIME FAVORITE zombie films. Great kills, fun characters and it takes place in my hometown of Milwaukee ❤❤❤
@fkim8449 Yes it was solid and that's about it.
Watch the original its a way better movie, once you have you will see how much of and insult this movie is.
We saw this in theaters and when they brought the lady in from the truck I almost had an asthma attack 😂. I was screaming in my head, DOUBLE TAP!!!🤣
From the special features I found out it was a big dude playing her lol he did such a good job with the chase
this was my first proper zombie film i watched as an early teen im 31 now and its still my top zombie film an absolute classic for me i love the opening montage
The helicopter in beginning right before trucker drives into gas pumps is homage to helicopter in original DAWN OF THE DEAD and trucker crashing into gas pumps is part of Bens story in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
This is my favourite "of the dead" movies, with a close second to the 90s night of the living dead.
But I love this one, it's up there with 28 days for my favourite zombie film
Its up there with 28 Days Later for sure, which as you probably agree, is high praise!! 🙌🏻
Gosh 20 years already?!! I was 19 and working as a projectionist when this movie came out! Loved cranking up the volume during the opening and closing credits of this movie!😂
I remember I was like 13 when I saw this. Me and my friend watched the first Resident Evil movie and then right after we were like “yeah we’re into zombie movies”. We had to take a little break after the intro. 😂
I had no idea Snyder and Gunn worked on this movie but then again I don’t often look up directors/writers of films or pay attention to credits idk why 😂😂 but now it makes sense why this is one of my favorite zombie movies of all time
They didn't. Gunn's script was rewritten twice. Gunn can't write $hit.
@@AshrafAnam sounds like you just have a vendetta against James Gunn 💀 any real writer knows that it takes more than one time to write something captivating and coherent enough for the big screen or even a book. an entire script only being rewritten twice is not that bad 💀 James Gunn has written some great films so idk what you’re talking about 😂😂
The song Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash was so epic of a choice. It fits soooooo well. Especially when you realize the one person immune is the holy guy.
On the DVD there are Andy's video diaries and news broadcasts. Gotta miss those days when studios went above and beyond with special features.
Such an entertaining movie. Goes to show Snyder was in his element when he made his older stuff before the superhero stuff came into play. This and 300 came out within 2 years of each other. This movie also just goes to show that if you can make it entertaining enough, fast zombies are the way to go. This movie at times could've had a Left 4 Dead quality to it and I appreciate that.
I think this and 300 and watchmen prove that Snyder is only good at taking already established IPs and putting is his own unique spin on the adaptation. Could be wrong but I don't think he's ever done anything that's an truly original idea has he?
@@stephensporman8206 I mean if you look at his filmography the stuff that is original that he's done that isn't technically based on anything is what is his weakest
Love how you conjured Ty 😂
When you mentioned his name I was so excited because I knew he was about to show up. Awesome.
1:01:48 his face!😂😂😂😂😂 Hes like "why? Just why"
As a massive Johnny Cash fan, the opening credits with the chaotic zombie footage and his "The Man Comes Around" is a masterpiece. My favorite JC song ever.
I remember this coming out and being super excited because Romero’s Night of the Living Dead is one of the first horror films I ever watched as a kid, and it spawned my love for zombie films since then! I was about 18 when this came out and watched it many times. This remake and Night of the Living Dead remake are my comfort films lol.
And you say nothing of his Dawn and Day of the Dead???
@@JohnDAmico-ci2hz ??? I’m not sure what you’re trying to say…because I’ve seen both Dawn and Day…and I actually have a tank top of Day of the Dead and shirts of Night of the Living Dead as soon as they were restocked after being sold out lol. I’ve seen the OG version of Dawn and Night, I’ve even seen the OG version of The Crazies that Romero had a hand in as well as the remake. I’ve also got Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead on DVD and have watched Survival of the Dead (although it’s my least favorite). I also have the book ‘The Living Dead’ and ‘Nights of the Living Dead’. I enjoy Romero films period. Just stating which ones are MY comfort films. Nothing crazy lol.
Heavily based on George Romeo’s 1978 Dawn of the Dead. It’s supposed to be a remake but I think it’s good on its own
1970's classic "Zombie" is set on Caribbean Island. First zombie vs sharks scene.
This is my favourite horror movie of all time, the original and Night are both groundbreaking and have their own charm for sure, but the updated effects and the soundtrack makes me prefer this one soooooo much, so glad you’re reacting to this :D
I know Jake Weber the best from his role on Medium. Dawn of the Dead is probably one of my favorite zombie movies of all time. I love how the tropes just worked in this and everyone brought their A-game. plus, Ving Rhames is always a win. thanks for the reaction, guys! 😃
I really love Weber's character Michael. A great everyman to root for.
6:25 Holy cow I haven't thought about "Splice" in ages! That to me was one of those weekdays-late-at-night-horror-flicks you'd eventually find on some channel somewhere and then stick around for a while, during a period in life where free time was rather abundant
My favorite zombie film
These two are always hilarious together. Great video guys!
This film is really a masterpiece 🙌🔥
I saw this in theaters. I remember the whole theater cussing when Nicole went after the dog. Like HOMG!! Man’s told you to hide! Don’t ask no questions!! 😩
This is easily Zack Snyder’s best movie.
The only good one, dare i say
@@okiguess8103 bro straight up 😅

Best opening to a movie ever, awesome cinematic scenes with a banging song to go along with it
Dawn of the dead zombies is something to be afraid of unlike any other zombie show/movie.
I really love the opening scene of this movie. The slow build before shit immediately hits the fan, is so well executed.
Takes place in Milwaukee. Looks nothing like Milwaukee
😂 True! I've learned to just accept the fact that if a movie or show takes place in the US Midwest, it's gonna be filmed in Ontario or Vancouver 9 times out of 10.
Maybe the suburbs especially that mall
Such a legendary movie! Never get tired of it at all. Such a great cast too made up not of Hollywood A-listers but rather Hollywood journeymen and character actors who are still excellent quality in their own right.
Ving Rhames (Kenneth), Mekhi Phifer (Andre), Jake Weber (Michael), Michael Kelly (CJ), Ty Burrell (Steve), Matt Frewer (Frank)… all brilliant actors and together in a film like this, made the experience even more awesome and the viewer to watch.
"Doing the Lord's work," is no consolation when you're underappreciated and burned out.
Sincerely, Nurses.
Did ya notice the youngest security guard is Kevin Zegers, he played Josh in the Air Bud movies.
I saw the intro preview on TV when it came out. They played the first 10 minutes as a teaser before it came out. What a flex.
This movie terrifies me. So glad you guys enjoyed it! If you can find it online or on dvd the dvd had special features that were in universe news broadcast like what was in the opening montage and it just escalated the realness/scary aspect for me.
And that was Zack Snyder's debut movie. That has to be the strongest debut in Hollywood history.
1:00:20 He doesn’t shoot it, the fire from the muzzle blast lit the flare……
This was a great reaction ✌🏽💯 dawn of the dead and 28 days later are probably the best zombie films ever created
And the film rec
Best opening credits song/montage ever.
This movie is where I first heard Richard Cheese's rendition of Down With the Sickness.
I love that song. Both versions :D.
I found him through the Box of Oddities podcast, and realized I had heard him in this movie, and Zombieland, iirc.
First 30 Days of Night, then The Last Samurai and now Dawn Of The Dead?! Thank you for recently reacting to some of my favorite movies OF ALL TIME. I’m in reaction heaven lol
Great Reaction Coy and John! This movie is so good and a great Zombie Movie! 👍
This always stands out in my mind as an excellent remake, I enjoy rewatching this one ❤
This has been one of my most favorite reactions to the 2004 Dawn of the Dead! I wish I had seen it a second time in the theater.
That cover of "Down with the Sickness" is Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine
Clicked on this soooo fast 😎🔥
Wildest part of the movie to me, is the Delta Force (i think that's what I heard the soldiers in the whitehouse segment were) just opening fire on the ENITRE PRESS CORPS for one person, clearly not infected, coming up to ask questions.
Coy's reaction at 32:06 is the best! You know, I love these horror/slasher type movies you're doing with Coy b/c Coy isn't the biggest fan of these, but he has the best reactions, I still feel it's a bit... cruel? But, it's so good. For the views and algos, Coy! 😂
My sister and I used to watch this any time we we took a sick day. 20 years later we still watch it when we are home sick, and we send eachother pictures of the screen lol
12:27 “you’ve got red on you” 😂
this is one of my favorite zombie movies. I love that they set it in the mall. Like that's where you go when there's a zombie apocalypse.
I've been binge watching this channel for the past week, love you guys
I feel like it was CSI: Miami that made the whole - saying one liner, then putting on sunglasses - trope a really popular thing. lol. Anybody remember that. Every episode, dude would say a one liner then put his sunglasses back on. Supernatural even made a gag about it. lol.
_Yeeeeeaaaahhh_ *theme song plays*
This was such a good movie!!! I havent seen it in soo long. Watching you guys react to it was so much fun 😂
Always love your guys reactions! I love this movie! I love how you said “now that’s all they have to watch.” Lol! 😂
Watched this way back in 2004, 43 year old here, yes I'm old lol. Love George Romero and the Night of the living Dead had such a good twist if not tragic and ironic. Dawn of the Dead 1978 was my first ever zombie watch and I fell in love with the genre. I really enjoyed this film even though it is a remake of a classic and genre definiing film. Used to love The Walking Dead before i jumoed ship in season 8, bet they wished they had jumped ship during this film lol. Great reaction both. Keep up the great work and content 😊.
I remember when this first came out they teased the first 8 mins on tv and i knew after watching this was gonna be good. The best intro to a movie ever
Underrated modern CLASSIC!!! Didn't get this hype since 28 Days Later when this dropped, was a great refresher as to why we love the Zombie/ Virus Apocalypse genre 🙌🏻🔥watching this blind to Synder / Gunn and marveling at the style and feel, to only look back NOW with such a greater scope of understanding to the creative minds behind it is 😳 and makes total sense, to say the least!!!!
Great reaction videos guys. Really enjoyed it.
This remains one of my favorite movies of this genre. It's too bad there wasn't a sequel or another Snyder zombie film.
Unless I'm mistaken, that is untrue there is a sequel made be Zack that is a remake of the sequel to the original Dawn, and is very very bad.
(8:44) The moment Anna drove past that burning car. You can see on the left hand side of the screen a few spectators just watching this scene being filmed. They’re literally just standing there.
