Actually the name of the game “naughty boy” does imply something sexual. The creators of the movie confirmed that the Grabber was sexually abusing his victims, and the Grabber was based on a real life serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Who was a sex offender who targeted young boys before killing them.
The part in the beginning of his kidnapping when the grabber plays with finney’s hair did make me question how far this movie was going to go. Where did the creators confirm it?
I really liked the fact that, with the exception of maybe Robin, the dead kids primary motivation wasn't really to save Finn but to get revenge on the Grabber. And even Robin was like "I couldn't kill him so you'll have to do it for me." For some reason that motivation seemed much more genuine and believable than some benevolent dead teenagers wanting to rescue Finn, and think it gave the movie a little more grit than if they just wanted to save him. Also, "Finn's arm is mint" right before snapping the Grabber's neck was a great moment.
Well ghosts are supposed to usually be formed from rage\anger. So it makes sense that they are focused on revenge on the guy that killed them as opposed to some kid that they don’t know. With exception of Robin.
Robin is the only real exception for me because he already established a bond with Finn from the start. He's the only one that stood up for Finn besides his sister and even gave him words of advice. If he didn’t care about him, he wouldn't have gone through that much effort. His aid to Finn in the end was motivated by revenge, yes, but he also cared about Finn and wanted him to succeed. He comforted him when he was crying and was empathetic to everything Finn was feeling.
The little girl in this movie really deserves an Oscar I mean the kids did a really great job in this movie but that little girl oh my goodness she was incredible
Hes good but honestly, i just got joker vibes, even heard a compositional piece in the movie that sounded straight up ripped from jokers score, decent movie tho
So the reason this feels like a Stephen King film is because his son Joe Hill wrote the short story. This movie was a 10 out of 10 for me. I loved this flick so much!!! Great reaction as always!

Didn't work so why did the ghost kids even make Fin do them. At the end he actually used all of the things they told him to do together to defeat the grabber.
they missed it with the fridge scene. unless i saw it wrong but i’m pretty sure that one kid said it was a regular size fridge there that’s what he last remembered but the grabber switched it to a new and bigger sized one. again i could be wrong.

I got chills at that moment and when Finney's last phone call was from his best friend Robin who helped him not give up and stand up for himself. That message of having to stand up for yourself was so brilliantly made in the end.
Loved this movie! Finn was such an amazing main character! Most horror movies have moronic protagonists, but this kid was so resourceful and became an absolute little badass! His development was honestly incredible. New favorite of mine for sure!
Robin (Finn's friend with the bandanna) looked like he was walking to the Grabbers van because he was going to the shops to buy snacks for his and Finns study session for maths, like they mentioned at the start of the movie in the bathroom! Hope I helped clear that if no one figured it out!

I think what happens with them is they told that their mom had psychic powers . That's why Gwen could see premonitions. That's why the other kids died because they could see the phone ringing but when they picked it up, they couldn't hear the other side. Fin could hear them because of his mom.
It's like every kid that called helped in a way for Finn to escape. Bruce helped him dig the floor that trapped the Grabber and broke his ankle. The paperboy helped get the cord that tripped him & strangled him. Griffen helped with the lock combo . Vance helped him get the meat to give to the dog blocking the doorway. Then, of course, we all know Robin helped Finn finally fight back
The scene when all the ghost kids repeated the lines they said earlier like "Finn's Arm is Mint," And "Today's the day a-hole!" is my favorite part, it especially right before he killed him.

This movie creeped me out bigtime and made me so scared the whole time. Especially being a mother. Also it's not confirmed why the Grabber is broken. Whether it was due to his own child abuse OR if he had a normal childhood & still ended up broken (Which is even scarier, when you think about it). It's not confirmed because like Ethan Hawke said himself, "because it doesn't matter why he's broken, what matters is he IS broken." The movie shows the Grabber was a sick paedophile that murders his victims after they play his "naughty boy" game. They made a few subtle signs to show what he was, hence why he was shirtless, & why one victim mentions the grabbers "favourite" part of naughty boy etc. Also noticed that the Grabber did, in fact pick certain types of kids. The Grabber only picks boys and notice how they all have long hair, that he can play with.😖
He also had a thing against the boys that fight back…he used their fight to hurt them more. With Vance he starved him for 11 months to get him weak and r4ped him on his birthday as a “gift” according to the book. With Robin, he died not long after being grabbed. He fought the grabber hard and the grabber stabbed him up before letting his dog paw at him. It’s why Robin had paw marks on him. It’s established he r4ped all the boys as well and it’s sicker when you see he was wearing Robins belt.
I like the film is a metaphor for escaping your trauma. Essentially Finn grows up, to stand up for himself. That's his journey. He finally has the confidence to stand up for himself and we see how the bullies react to him after everything. Disappointed he didn't rebuff his dad though. Great movie overall. Wish it was 20 minutes longer and learned more about Ethan Hawke's character. That mask is gonna be hot this Halloween.
I feel the main boy who played Finney, Mason Thames, was incredible too. The movie rested mostly on his shoulders because most of the scenes were of him alone in the basement with no other actor to play off of and that's a difficult task for an actor of his age, let alone an adult actor. He did a phenomenal job and I also loved his character arc starting off as a timid boy eventually turning into a badass standing up for himself. He wasn't an annoying kid actor like some kid actors can be and he made you like the character Finney and root for him the entire time.
"This feels like a Stephen King movie" Well I guess in a way it is since the movie is based on a short story by his son, Joe Hill. But man, this movie was one my favourites this year. I didn't expect much but I was genuinely interested after watching the first trailer but holy I really enjoyed watching it back in theatres. From the jumpscares from the sudden appearance of the spirits to the thrill and suspense in Finn's escape attempts from The Grabber. I also really love the tone and setting of the movie along with the acting from the actors. They really sold it in this movie, especially Finn's sister. I really enjoyed her character. And of course, Ethan Hawk's The Grabber. Really love his mask too. And the fact that everything that was set up and happened throughout the film concluded and tied in nicely in the climax and ending. Everything had its purpose and it was not all wasted. All the hints and tips given by the spirits to Finn wasn't actually for him to escape in those moments but for not only for him to escape later but to also for them to get back at and kill The Grabber.
Ive asked my dad were bullies and school fights that brutal in the 70s than he said "yep!" he has quite a few stories of fights he witness back in school. Seriously, this film is amazing i remember people were cheering for finn at the end of the film love to see more films like this that make you feel tense and wondering whats going to happen next.
The father, I think we were meant to see his drinking being derived from the loss of their mother due to suicide, and in his anger when his daughter showed similar what he saw as symptoms, did what he did to try to keep her away from that, not believing it to perhaps be anything more than mental illness. Either way.. now that he understands it was something more, and with this massive event that effected his and his children's life, one would hope it would be one of those life changing events that gets him to stop drinking and get his stuff together, repair those relationships. I think that's a bit more of the direction we were meant to think, than just "Well, this one thing is what defines him, and that will always define him" The movie wasn't so much about him, we were never going to get a lot of focus on him, so the little we had, needed to contain some context which I think the director/writer did the best they could. Also, the other attempts were not for nothing, as they all played a part in that final conflict, the window cover stripping him up and breaking his leg, the steak from the freezer to get past the dog, the combination to ultimately get all, it all culminated into the greater scene.
I loved the opening credits almost like a true crime documentary. This movie knocked it out of the park for me. All the kids were awesome acting. Ethan Hawke nailed it. FUN FACT: Ethan Hawke swore he would not do a 'bad guy' role early in his career and if you look at his filmography or are familiar with his work he never has until this role. I adore Ethan Hawke s work. Great actor 👍I've already watched this movie 3 times. First time in the theatre.
This is a brilliantly made movie. Ethan Hawke went against his usual typecast roles and killed it as a creepy serial killer and I notice that Madeleine McGraw is getting a lot of rave reviews for her amazing portrayal as Gwen. I agree but who I was most impressed by was the main boy who played Finney, Mason Thames. I read this was his first movie he ever acted in and he blew me away. He had great chemistry with both Madeleine and Ethan which made their scenes believable. That boy has talent and it going places for sure. So is the girl. The movie left me a sobbing mess by the end when Finney was found and Gwen saw him and ran to him to hug him. What was most impressive about the movie is that unlike most scary movies, this one had heart and touching scenes as well as scares. I love it and hop it wins awards.
Such a fun review of such a dark movie! Roxy was fantastic, and it reminded me so much of when I watch movies with my youngest, who constantly has to know everything all the time.
By the way,fun fact, Ethan Hawke and James who played his brother, they also work together in the film Sinister which also work the same director too of this movie.
Just happened to watch your reactions to this. I grew up in the 60ties and 70ties, I can tell you when I first watched this, I felt it very much had the 70ties look and vibe for sure. It really took me back. Sadly another thing I identified with was, the alcholic Father and when he was beating his daughter. I saw my face in hers at that moment. I went through moments like that (not for the same reason he was doing it to her) because of my Father.😟 I had to actually pause the movie for about 10 mins to gather myself after that scene. Anyways, I love a good Paranormal thriller and that's what this was for me. This is one of the BEST ones I've ever watched, and loved how innately Finn felt he had no power but was able to gain it with help from the boys who had been killed. Both of the kid actors in this were great. 😀
''It’s a balancing act in the beginning as we see Gwen being the one with supernatural powers and helping out her brother. But as you put things together, you come to realize that Gwen has essentially half of her mother’s powers and Finney has the other half. It’s just that Finney has never been in a situation where he’s experienced them before, so this is his first experience with these powers. And the phone itself is kind of a conduit to those powers, which they both got from their mom.''
Late to the party, but this movie did great character work. I mean, you're truly feeling for Finn and rooting for him, and I found myself heartbroken about Robin despite his scenes only adding up to maybe 3 minutes total. I felt like his death was another bridge for Finn to cross as far as growing up and coming of age; Finn had to stand up for himself because Robin couldn't do it anymore. Very bittersweet. Excellent movie, I honestly wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did!
It's really cool to see finn do what the others tried to do while they were in the same room, using what they could to escape. I think that the spirits told finn what they did to see if he could progress further then them and not get caught or run out of time. Finn used all the things the spirits showed him to his advantage and did what the others couldn't. Killed the grabber.
This film was amazeballs. Great performances from everybody. Scott and Ethan are definitely a duo I'd love to see yet again. Also, Roxy was so fun to watch with. You two had me cracking up.
loved the atmosphere of this movie so much! the absolute highlight are the performances of the kids and ethan hawke. also fun fact: the little girl that plays gwen (finn's sister) is the sister of little nellie from haunting of hill house!
this is a solid 8 out of 10 i really fucking love it felt like shining but on a small scale but yeah.. scott made this masterpiece i wish to see more of this world now. this is one of my favourite now here then It's Nope
What scares me most is that The Grabber only needs 16 seconds where no one pay attention and no one is on the street to grab Finn, get him inside his van and take him away. Many think we can get rid of a situation like this, but really everything happens in such a short time that you can't even process what's happening and much less think what to do to be able to escape. That's why it's very important to always be aware about what happens around us when we're on the street and teach kids that you can't trust strangers even for little things
I love this freaking movie it felt like the origin story of a brother and sister superhero team. I kept saying to myself man this kid is like a future batman. He was so resourceful and clever with a fighting spirit and she was so strong and smart. Loved it.
I didn't see the movie, but this reaction showed what a great film it must be. And what a reaction! I absolutely LOVE Roxy's reaction. As it seems that the movie didn't allow you to breathe and take a moment, perhaps it forces an audience to think about it afterwards (something Ethan Hawke likes in films).
This is one of my favorite films of the year and favorite Scott Derrickson film. So glad I got to experience it again, watching yall experience it on the small screen. "Jewish Roxy" "Did you hear me?!" "Finny or Vinny" LMAO. I'm glad to see Roxy team up with The Reel Rejects. Do more of this, please. Also, I loved! that they didn't explain the origins of the Grabber.
The first ghost boy made the entire theater jump out their seats 😂 we all laughed afterwards, went to see it a second time and forgot when that boy appears and it got me and family again 💀
I loved this movie, but my movie experience was Jeffery Awful, the girls in the back kept talking like they was at their crib it really annoyed me but other than that i loved the hell out this movie.
I'm not going to lie the '80s were a little rough growing up but I wouldn't trade them for anything my childhood was amazing we got to do whatever we wanted.
As someone who comes from a family that has had their dreams come true, I loved Gwen’s character! 🤗❤️ I felt her *Sometimes my dreams are right.* 💯 When I was little, my parents were stressed about selling our home since there were newer cheaper homes being built all around that area. I had a dream about who would buy our house and even said what military rank the new owner would be- and it was all correct. I am very grateful that my parents were open to believing me and pleasantly surprised when many of my dreams came true. I wish I could give Gwen a hug, her dad beating her because of her gift hurt my heart ❤️🩹 I was glad to see the dad was finally a bit supportive if using Gwen’s gift could help find Finney.
Loved the reaction!!! You both were so into the experience throughout, it was a great watch! About "Finny or Vinny", I think the actor was going for slurred or heavy speech associated with being inebriated.
I love this movie mainly for the lead up, all the things the dead has him do isn't ways to escape, but they're layers of a plan so finn can get justice for the death of the kids. -the cable wire, to trip the man. -the hole, for the guy to fall in. -the metal bar thing, to break his ankle when he falls. -the freezer, to give the dog the meat. And the phone, to beat him up and stangle him to death. Honestly this is my favorite movie of 2022 10/10
Yes! I watched it this past weekend and loved it. I searched the page hoping you had reacted to it because I was dying to hear someone else's thoughts about it. It's definitely in the same ballpark as Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, or maybe even something like Lady in White. I loved it. It has stuck with me ever since I finished watching it. I thought the acting was phenomenal, but "Finn", "Gwen", and "Robin" were the standouts to me. I look forward to following their careers. I've never watched Sinister, and after this, that's going to be a must watch now.
I’m glad I didn’t see this in a theater. This movie seems like it would be too intense for me. I don’t like kids in peril movies. Im glad I watched this reaction instead! I hope Roxy does more on your channel! She’s pretty awesome!
The brother was supposed to show why everything was going at a slower pace than with the other kids. When his brother was awake, he never really came down and messed with Finny. They touch on that more in the short story that the film is based on.
That's what the 70's and 80's growing up. I got in trouble, I got the belt. We got into a fight we fought with no gun bullshit. This movie was accurate as far as the child dynamics of the time. FYI I don't hate my mother or father even with the belt.

All the kids plans individually failed. But everything combined worked for Finney. Loved how it all came together.

Roxy! I feel you girl!! I thought Ethan was coming every few minutes too. I loved this movie
Scared 100% of the time
Ive asked my dad were bullies and school fights that brutal in the 70s than he said "yep!" he has quite a few stories of fights he witness back in school. Seriously, this film is amazing i remember people were cheering for finn at the end of the film love to see more films like this that make you feel tense and wondering whats going to happen next.
Took me a second to realize Greg didn't have the most dapper eyebrow curls in existence and it was just his hair.
😂
Also, the other attempts were not for nothing, as they all played a part in that final conflict, the window cover stripping him up and breaking his leg, the steak from the freezer to get past the dog, the combination to ultimately get all, it all culminated into the greater scene.
well said
I loved the opening credits almost like a true crime documentary.
Did you know each thing the kids told him to do to try to escape was actually a tool to kill him
42:32 - Not only the Director of sinister but the actor who plays his brother in this plays deputy so-in-so in sinister 😂
The actress who played Gwen was the stand out for me
The young girl is the best actress I’ve seen in a horror movie in YEARS. Wow she is immaculate
Such a fun review of such a dark movie! Roxy was fantastic, and it reminded me so much of when I watch movies with my youngest, who constantly has to know everything all the time.
knew nothing about the movie when I was on my way to see it, ended up being perhaps my favorite movie of the year!
Ok this movie is great, but how on earth is this movie comparable to Endgame?
@@fellowspacemarine the Tension for me personally
such a great horror movie 🙌🏾🎯 love how u got extra excited when you found out Ethan Hawke was in this , he was amazing in this
“She doesn’t even go here!!!!” 🤣 loved this movie. Great reaction
By the way,fun fact, Ethan Hawke and James who played his brother, they also work together in the film Sinister which also work the same director too of this movie.
Some of the best kid acting in a movie in a minute. They were all so good.
The little girl has the best performance in the whole movie ... thats all i had to say time to watch the video lmaoo
I like how he uses everything the other kids told him to take down and escape The Grabber. I also love that the mask has different parts!
I love that the grabber says “I should break you neck for what you did to my arm” in the end Finn breaks his neck
Love that you collab with Roxy Stair. She's awesome!!!
I like how everything the ghosts of the kids told finny all came together at the end to help him escape !
The martial arts kid and finney are literally friend goals. Wish it was like that in real life !
loved the atmosphere of this movie so much! the absolute highlight are the performances of the kids and ethan hawke. also fun fact: the little girl that plays gwen (finn's sister) is the sister of little nellie from haunting of hill house!
this is a solid 8 out of 10 i really fucking love it felt like shining but on a small scale but yeah.. scott made this masterpiece i wish to see more of this world now. this is one of my favourite now here then It's Nope
This was one of my favorite movies of this year. Thanks for making a reaction video on it.
That's why it's very important to always be aware about what happens around us when we're on the street and teach kids that you can't trust strangers even for little things
ngl wasn’t expecting this reaction but happy u did it!!!
I love this freaking movie it felt like the origin story of a brother and sister superhero team. I kept saying to myself man this kid is like a future batman. He was so resourceful and clever with a fighting spirit and she was so strong and smart. Loved it.
OMG! its Roxy Strair!!!!!! been a fan since screen junkies movie fight days! Love you guys!!!
Something I like about the movie is that it keeps you thinking.
I really enjoyed this film, especially since it was filmed literally in the same state I’m in🤯!!!
This movie was amazing 🔥🔥
Ethan Hawke is an outstanding actor as always but as much as it is a horror movie the jumpscares weren't scary at all
I personally consider it more a thriller than horror
@@Jim-Halp1234 it reminded me a lot of Sinister
That first apparition scared the Shish kebab out of me lol. No movie had ever scared me until I first saw this movie in theaters lol.
The first ghost boy made the entire theater jump out their seats 😂 we all laughed afterwards, went to see it a second time and forgot when that boy appears and it got me and family again 💀
@@JoseHernandez-qd4dk LOL I wished I could’ve seen that lol.
Best horror movie of 2022
Agreed
E
honestly between this and X for me
I loved this movie, but my movie experience was Jeffery Awful, the girls in the back kept talking like they was at their crib it really annoyed me but other than that i loved the hell out this movie.
X is the best imo
Omg! You two need to do more reactions together please!! I haven't laughed this hard in so long. Thanks for the great reaction!
Nice to see roxy on the channel. Enjoyed the movie a lot, ethan hawke is great in this. Solid horror flick
Gregg absolutely dying while that kid was getting the shit beat out of him is what I love for
Oh shit!! Let’s go, It’s Roxy!!! This movie was pretty dope also!!
The abusive father is the guy from god of war PS4 right? It sounds just like him
Yeah baldur
“ I feel bad for joking about it” that how it be mate
I'm not going to lie the '80s were a little rough growing up but I wouldn't trade them for anything my childhood was amazing we got to do whatever we wanted.
Gregs hair under the beanie makes it look like he has long curly villainous eyebrows
Thank you for pointing that out! Hahah I thought that too lol
Quite possibly my 2 favourite internet people! Keen to pop this on and watch along after the day at work.
The kids didn’t know it wouldn’t work, like getting out of the fridge, the grabber killed them before they could finish what they were trying to do.
THANK YOU!! i was gonna comment this but for some reason i couldn’t get my thoughts in order 😂 and it’s very simple to say 💀
@@QUAKEisCOMING 😂😂 no problem
HOLY CRAP, I think this is my new favourite horror movie!
Yo love your collab with Roxy ❤
Great review for an exceptional movie. Some of my friends thought it was too slow but I felt it was balanced and well acted.
It feels like a Stephen king story cuz it’s an adaptation of his son Joe Hills work
Thank you Roxy and Greg!!! This was awesome!!! Hope you guys have a great rest of your week!!! 🙂 👍
I will be subscribing to her now cause that was legitimately the funniest review to a horror movie I’ve seen in a while. So good!
Ugh she’s obnoxious!! Couldn’t even finish the reaction she annoyed me so bad.
Haha appreciate you. This movie had me shook.
As someone who comes from a family that has had their dreams come true, I loved Gwen’s character! 🤗❤️ I felt her *Sometimes my dreams are right.* 💯
When I was little, my parents were stressed about selling our home since there were newer cheaper homes being built all around that area.
2 minutes in and I love the banter between you. I'm not a scary movie person but I liked this movie.
I used to enjoy watching Roxy on Collider Live. Nice to see her guest co-host here.
Honestly this is my favorite movie of 2022 10/10
This woman holding onto greg for dear life😂😂
Her name is Roxy
41:18 No one EVER calls him Vinny in the movie, smooth brain
What a pleasant surprise to see Roxy Striar in the thumbnail. That's all I needed to click on this video 😀
Same, I watched this at home and I'm glad I did.
I watched this in the theaters and I can confirm I screamed and cried
The brother was supposed to show why everything was going at a slower pace than with the other kids. When his brother was awake, he never really came down and messed with Finny. They touch on that more in the short story that the film is based on.
I loved this movie. The way it all ties together the way it does. And the kids are great actors and do a great job at making you care for them.
That's what the 70's and 80's growing up. I got in trouble, I got the belt. We got into a fight we fought with no gun bullshit. This movie was accurate as far as the child dynamics of the time. FYI I don't hate my mother or father even with the belt.
Loved the collab! Great movie, great reaction! 10/10
The boy who played Finn is absolutely a little clone of Patrick Swayze
The movie is amazing, and I'm happy to see Roxy again after Collider Live. She gets prettier every day.
I can't tell if those 2 little curls of hair above your glasses are your actual hair or your eyebrows 😂
Loved this movie! Yay Roxy!💖
Jeannine The Machine!!!
Oh my God Roxy!! Hell yeah. Please have her here more for reactions to movies. She’s great!
YES PLZ
This movie actually had me shaking. It had been SO long since a horror movie did that. LOVED this.
