To answer your question at the beginning, no, this wouldn’t work. It’s an asinine idea. After the annual Purge, people would not simply revert to being law abiding. Their violent urges, resentments, and anger towards others would remain in place. After committing violent crimes once, they would be even more likely to do it again. Also, the victims and their families would then have motivations to retaliate. There is no societal benefit from endorsing these actions, even once a year.
Yeah, even if a lot of people went back to "law abiding" the amount of time it would take to restore order or what emergency services would have to react to the following day... Totally not feasible to go from a purge back to regular laws 😂 And then there's the mass amount of deaths that would certainly affect the ability of the country to even function, so much clean up, etc.
These crimes don't work this way. Most murders are crimes of passion, necessity, and rage. Not a rage that can be channeled into one night a year. Can you imagine if someone pisses you off a day after The Purge? "Well, 364 more days and I'm really going to show them."
Yea, I would want revenge and wouldn't wait a year to do it. If I lost my entire family, why would i care about jail or even living. It would send society into chaos.
Not to mention not all peoples problems are due to anger or repression. A lot are due to mental health, being part of extremist religious groups, etc. Even if you could calm society down again and the clean up would easy the next morning, "releasing the repression" not going to magically solve everything.
In the second season of the TV show they explored that very concept which you explained, few have seen it but it was a cool watch that focuses on after the purge.
The only thing that really bothered me about The Purge - and it's a big thing - is that, given the opportunity to do anything they want and face no repercussions whatsoever, everyone jumps straight to rape and murder. Am I the only person who thinks it would be way cooler to say 'Hey, warm up the truck; let's go score some free furniture,' or 'Let's go triple our food supply,' or 'That ATM's looking mighty deserted,' ??? Seriously! Nobody goes in for good old personal gain in this movie!
The problem is that, at our core, humans are violent animals (if we weren't our world would be much simpler) so given the opportunity even if it was a very small percentage there would be people prowling the streets looking for violence... I wouldn't be out looking for furniture with monsters freely lurking
i believe in the later movies it's explained why people go straight to evilness. i don't wanna spoil anything too much just that it started off like a party/do whatever you want freely but evil government powers wanted population control and more of a fearful reaction so they manipulated the purge to have things be more violent.
That stuff probably happens but it’s just not the focus of the films as it’s not very cinematic or particularly interesting, when compared to the high tension and drama of things like rape and murder. I guess they go for the high stakes stuff for the films.
The Purge franchise is very much message oriented, it gets more acute in its ideas of class, race, and sociopolitical commentary as the movies go further along; even touching on firey division of the 2016/2020 presidential run
Imagine a purge movie where these guys invade a home of an unknown widowed man. They break into the nice home and begin searching wildly for him. When they find his puppy barking madly they aim their guns at it. Suddenly the silhouette of a man in a suit appears behind the frightened pet. He fires twice and kills the two out of dozens of invaders before him. When he steps into the light, it's John Wick.
Too much happening.... The guy from EQUALIZER will kill them in brutal way or when they saw the dog or heard the dog barking they r dead already after the dog bark 😂 John Wick - - - wtf! How?
I forgot The Purge came out the same year as The Conjuring. Yeah, Conjuring was the best horror film of the decade and always thought The Purge was a good movie.
The second Purge movie and the third Purge movie (which You have to watch!) makes the SURVIVAL of the Bloody Stranger, the innocent homeless man who came into the house, MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT. So, not only are the two sequels already a step up in numerous ways (I won't spoil it but again, I recommend them) but they manage to ELEVATE The Purge (2013).
Simultaneously Disgustingly “What a weirdo” Lovingly “I love that kid” -I’m also just gonna go around hitting random people with a pillow and yelling “purge”
It’s interesting how insane and outlandish this premise seemed when this franchise first started, vs how now every year this seems more and more like what one particular segment of our country wants to happen. Yes there are sequels, I hope you will react to them!
Yeah, it's sad that the left has broken off from reality to such a degree that they think the purge is actually a good idea, but I can't really say I'm surprised. It's clear to anyone with a halfway functional brain that their moral compass is pretty broken, which is why they're fine with murdering and imprisoning people if they don't agree with them.
Plan as many heists as possible. Rob a few banks, jewelry stores, and anything worth extremely valuable. Then, after I'm rich, I'd immediately move to another country to start another life 😅
10 years ago. Amazing how one of the most creative ideas ever conceived for film became a phenomenon. This suspense drama-thriller with social commentary is so out of the box. The psychology, action and horror truly compliment it. Committing whatever crime possible or just directly taking out your frustration on select people you hate in 12 hours is scary stuff. 4 of the 5 films took place in the 2020s. But i had forgot the first one took place like literally a year ago. Hooked in since the first film, it had me thinking about how much further could the story go in potential sequels. Also it had me pondering about the state of our nation and it's people in power. Not too many would agree with this purge, me being one of those people.
I don't know how deep into the Purge franchise they want to go into, but the tv show does a good job of what happens after the Purge, the clean up, what the government does and then the build up to the next purge, at least season 2 touches that
This was a movie that left an impression on my generation growing up as kids. I still remember seeing the Halloween outfits made from it. The movie itself was a decent start to a set up sequels. I do think this franchise maybe overstayed its welcome but the concept of following stories of different people is intriguing enough that maybe they could've made a TV series out of The Purge instead of multiple films.
Ok but also the forever purge was a wonderful experience to me like just an amazing idea. Cause it is something I could really see happening if they were to implement the purge into the real world, I mean there’s going to be some who would want it to last forever and try to overthrow the government. Either way my opinion it’s all good to have your own opinions
And what's crazy is that Class 4 weapons are grenades, rocket launchers, bazookas, flame throwers, mines and such things that explode. So they are permitted.
Idea of Purge is based on Star Trek episode "Return of Archons". In it, a supercomputer than controls human population of the planet, reins in everyone's emotions until the Red Hour Festival when anarchy ensues. It's done to let people purge their frustrations and all negative emotions they are not allowed to experience at other times.
tbh i want a mockumentary style spin off following those who have to clean up after the purge because who cleans up after the 12 hours and what does that clean up entail?
This is a crazy action horror film! I watched the latest film in the series, THE FOREVER PURGE, last year on HBO, where a rancher and his family try to fight to survive, when they learn their neighbors don't want The Purge to end anytime soon
A Roxy and Tara Erickson special!! I love it and I’m excited to watch this reaction! I love this movie and I love you both. Ring that bell everybody! ❤❤❤❤
I'm glad that they also thought that he would play a perfect live action Joker. When I first saw this movie on release, that was all I could think of about him. He just has the psychopathy and the smile down pat.
I was so confused at first when you guys were debating whether or not the purge would be a good idea….and then I realized you were just too innocent to consider the fact that people would take the purge as an opportunity to straight up murder people and not just steal some candy bars 😂
If I'm not mistaken, Ethan Hawke is a friend of someone at Blumhouse, which is why he agreed to do this. Fact check that though! Also, I think in later movies, it's retconned that the PURGE actually doesn't help society in the way that the statistics at the top of this movie would suggest. That it's ultimately ends up victimizing the have nots more than anything.
Even if they hadn't let the guy in the neighbours were coming for them so either way it was guna come to them and change the way they viewed the purge considering they profited from it.
The actor at the door with blonde hair is Rhys Wakefield he is incredible he used to be in Home and Away an Australian TV series and plays Josh in Sanctum!!
I mean, alot of these people are really sick. Like incredibly. I mean ya, crime's legal for that whole night, yet the killers spent the whole night to try and kill that one homeless guy. Why? Like why did they waste so much time on him? If he killed someone that's one thing. But if he was just being a hobo, than why bother? They could've just gone on to someone else or anything like that.
One thing I caught rewatching with you is that Ethan Hawke would have always died. The only reason he didn't die by his daughter's boyfriend hand was because he had a gun that he grabbed to protect his family from the stranger. Had the boyfriend's plan bore out, he would have snuck up and shot an unarmed Ethan. So in terms of how many family members died due to the stranger being let in, I would say none because it zeroed out. And now they know their neighbors would purge them the first chance they get.
i love the franchise concept and wish they had dove more into all the different types of ways people were purging across the city we only got to see flashes of it
I'm immediately obsessed with any reaction that Roxy is in but this one in particular was fantastic! SO hilarious, so great, Tara as well, awesome job everyone! In the words of Roxy "PURGE!" **pushes you with pillow**
Yeah, it's easy for someone to say they would do the right thing just watching the movie, but character actions should actually make sense even within whatever fictional universe exists. I like that the movie compelled the family to go through a lot and have conflicting views and emotions BEFORE finally deciding to do the right thing.
Being friends with Lena on IG and all i know for a fact she really enjoyed playing that part and i have to say she’s absolutely phenomenal in all the roles she takes on and this was no exception
In terms of the initial trilogy, part of me kinda wished she had returned for Election Year as the one to run for President so you'd have the leads of the first two movies together. I mean this as no disrespect to Elizabeth Mitchell.
@@jaybling6687I know me too! I asked her, she said she was busy with shooting 300 rise of the empire at the point anarchy was shooting and she didn’t have a written part for her in it and then she was shooting reckless and pride and prejudice zombies so she couldn’t but I do really wish she was in election year too!
Only at the start, so hopefully you see sense, but you do realise that if the purge happened then you could be attacked, assaults, worse.....and it would be legal....your attacker could walk by you the next day totally free from consequences?
Love seeing the reactions from these two together!😂 have these two seen the Original “The Thing” from 1982? I just watched that yesterday and it was wild! Might be an idea ❤
If we had a purge I would honestly just go rob a crap ton of clothing stores, furniture stores, grocery stores, ATM’s, etc & just be stocked up for awhile 😂
The Purge series is such a cleverly disguised social commentary. You get out of it what you want. If you just want a violent film, it's there, if you want to see more depth and parallels it's actually there too.
In the grand scheme of the multiverse; I'm convinced that there's a universe during purge night where everyone gently cries out "purge" as they nudge everyone with a pillow.
My question is what do hospitals do in this situation? Also how many mass shootings/killings do they have on that one night? Like someone sneaking into an area with a bunch of people hiding
My answer to the purge was always get to somewhere so remote theres nobody purging cuz its just me for miles, but i love all the purge movies, good film series
Understandable mindset of career oriented adults without children. The moment your child is born if you are not driven to do anything, sacrifice any moral position, do whatever it takes to protect your child from harm, you're not a parent. Just how I feel. Btw coming from a military family I would like to point out that they (the family) would be doing the same thing our soldiers do in combat, which is killing people to protect their own.. If you understand it from a vet you have to understand it from a father
Busy binging all of Roxy and Tara's vids. The dynamic between them is so great. "Can I tell you something? Ethan Hawke is hot" moment had me rolling. Love these guys.
What would you do during the purge… my answer is either a: spend the rest of the year learning how to drain bank accounts from my own computer, or b: save up all year for tickets out of the country for the day. 😅 I’m too paranoid for anything else 😂
Love all your guys videos! Gotta say though I wish you’d keep doing the saw franchise! Loved watching those especially building up to the new one! All love to the reel reject crew❤️
This is one of the few movies where I feel like the some of the sequels are better… not to say this is bad at all, it’s still amazing but I enjoyed the other purge movie that follows the paramedic in the inner city.
You guys NEED To react to every single purge it just gets better and better and each movie is the same yes but you follow different people and you see different reasons to purge and why the purge has its pros and cons. You see consequences and the outcome on people and there mind it can be political but in a very educational way one of my favourite movie trilogies I never get bored watching these films and people react to them❤

The Purge series is such a cleverly disguised social commentary. You get out of it what you want. If you just want a violent film, it's there, if you want to see more depth and parallels it's actually there too.
Reminds me in some respect of the dystopian short story 2BR02B by Vonnegutt - read it years ago in class.
The Platform on Netflix is great too
Well done ladies, now onto the purge 2 please :)
Can't wait to see their reactions for the rest of The Purge films!!!
What would you do during the purge… my answer is either a: spend the rest of the year learning how to drain bank accounts from my own computer, or b: save up all year for tickets out of the country for the day. 😅
I’m too paranoid for anything else 😂
Love all your guys videos! Gotta say though I wish you’d keep doing the saw franchise! Loved watching those especially building up to the new one! All love to the reel reject crew❤️
This how life will be in 2024 Im convinced. The general public is getting tired
Not even 2 minutes in and I’m dying laughing off you two 😂😂 you guys are fools glad you like the movie 💪🏾
This is one of the few movies where I feel like the some of the sequels are better… not to say this is bad at all, it’s still amazing but I enjoyed the other purge movie that follows the paramedic in the inner city.
No you’re right . The first movie sucks and the sequels are better
These two are fire 😂😂😂
Yes!!! my 2 favorite people together THANK YOU
You guys NEED To react to every single purge it just gets better and better and each movie is the same yes but you follow different people and you see different reasons to purge and why the purge has its pros and cons. You see consequences and the outcome on people and there mind it can be political but in a very educational way one of my favourite movie trilogies I never get bored watching these films and people react to them❤
I just want you 2 to continue reacting to this series of films
Loved the reaction guys and I hope you guys watch the rest of the Purge Movies and maybe even the Purge TV Show Series
So glad you guys realized that quickly that this would never work lol! I was sorta losing my mind 😂😂😂
This is such a great duo for the purge movies.
My favorite duo! TaRoxy...Roxara?
