Just wanted to add this comment to anyone who's looking into this for RC usage. It's working out quite spectacularly as both an adhesion promoter, provided you scuff the body, a great scratch filler - which helps conceal the scuffing job, and it makes the paint impact resistant by making it very flexible.
Great information! I tried this product through my airbrush last weekend with good results. Seeing these tips will ensure even better results next time. Thank you for including the airbrush information and demo...a huge help!
Hello and thanks for the video! Could you tell me please how long you wait to dry sand and polish and what grits and polish you use? A video on polishing UVLS would be great as well!. Thanks!
For dry & cure times, any relevant tech info we could think of, please refer to the UVLS tech sheet at creatextech.com. We frequently update it and make sure our videos are consistent with it. Polishing video, good idea. Thank you.
Being new to airbrushing this video was very helpful. This info was very much needed, the guy at the hobby shop said no thinning was needed & mentioned nothing about the needle size. Thanks!!!
Guys I just want to say Thankyou for an amazing product and the always helpful tutorials. Just laid down your 4050 reduced 20% with 4011 through my iwata HP-BCR @ 45psi on bare aluminium followed by some candy and it looks sooo good. Cheers from the UK 😎👍
Hey Chris, when Im using 4050 (on goalie masks) as an intercoat on top of previously sprayed work...how long should I wait for the 4050 to dry before continuing to do more work? To add to that question, is additional scuffing required when the top coat is applied/cured?
Hey Chris, great video - thank you. I have everything working through my .5 airbrush just like you demonstrated. However, my only problem is that I am getting tip dry in between coats and its clogging up my airbrush and very frustrating. I'm leaving about 10 minutes in between coats and spraying at about 20 psi. Any way that I can avoid this without dumping my product and cleaning my brush with each coat? Thank you!
Clean the tip before spraying each time. 20 minutes is a long time to leave the clear in the narrow passage of an airbrush. UVLS is best applied with a spray-gun. While it works with an airbrush, some maintenance with the tip may be required. Also, make sure to only thin with 4011 Reducer, which should be added to the clear ~ 25% per volume for airbrush use. Thank you.
Just the video I needed. Just gor my gsi creos ps266 for spraying metallics pearls and clears and this was perfect. Is there a video on the clearing processes more in depth? Like intercoating amd mainly the final finish and buffing? That would be sweet
Part 2 of our 4053 UVLS High Gloss Clear is a great buffing how-to video, ruclips.net/video/yRMRj-sMngc/видео.html. This would apply to most clears, UVLS and 2k urethane clears. You may also like our recent inter-coat video as well, ruclips.net/video/YEQ0vyWLrp4/видео.html. Thank you.
I’ve watched this video a number of times and using an Iwata eclipse HP-CS with a .5mm nozzle, cap, and needle swapped in getting a nice wet application a couple times now on the same pieces and I’m still having the gloss dry looking more like the right matte example on your sample sheet. Reducing with 4011 and starting around 25 psi to consistency of skim milk and then trying about 30 psi and 20 psi. No difference.
4050 UVLS Gloss Clear dries semi-gloss, requiring polishing for a gloss finish. Application with a spray-gun, allowing for ~ 0.5mm - 0.75mm medium-wet coat applied 50/50 overlapped will produce a higher gloss finish compared to airbrushing. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thanks for the reply. With what shall I polish it? Your test panel still looks glossy without polishing. Mine is nowhere even CLOSE to that kind of gloss. This is the first time using a top coat I’ve had to do anything other than spray, wait for it to dry glossy, and move on with my life. Just trying to get the best from the product.
I am a reborn doll artist. Creators in my community are looking for an air dry product that can be used to seal painted vinyl dolls. Most do not use air brushes, but rather would pounce on our varnishes/sealers with a sponge/cosmetic wedge. Can the matte version of this product be used that way straight from the bottle?
Yes, 4050 can be directly top-coated with a catalyzed (2k) solvent-based, urethane clear. Sanding is not required for adhesion, but if done for leveling, dry sand 600 - 800 grit sandpaper. Apply the first coat of clear medium-wet / wet; a tack (acclimation) coat is not required. Thank you.
Yes, UVLS Clears will adhere well and provide a lasting, protecting coating over the paint. UVLS Clears will show scratches, scuffs, etc. as the baseball helmet is used in games, however the "structural integrity" of the coating will be maintained even after prolonged abuse, and a simple scuff and re-clear can probably remove most damage if needed at the end of season, etc. Thank you.
Great video as always! Could you use UVLS gloss as a replacement for 2K automotive clear? Maybe not for cars or bikes, but maybe for helmets? Can it be cut and buffed?
UVLS Clears are an architectural-grade clear. 4050 Gloss can be cut and buffed to a high gloss finish. For more information, please review the UVLS Clear tech sheet, creatextech.com/pdf/tds/UVLS-Clears-TDS.pdf. Thank you.
Yes, adding 4050 Gloss Clear to any Createx paint (add ~ 20% - 25% per volume) works well; when doing so, more thinning with 4011 Reducer is required compared to when adding 4030. This is a great mix for automotive & hard-surface (in fact, we don't use 4030 at all for autmotive anymore. This will be reflected in an upcoming tech update). Thank you.
CreatexColorsCo thank you for the response. The reason I’m asking I tried using your 4030 mixed with your paint and I didn’t feel the paint was anymore durable. In fact I felt it was less durable, I could just run my finger nail on it and paint would scratch off. I’m painting rc bodies. I did topcoat with 4050 and that works great. That’s why I was wondering about using 4050 as a mix instead. I did mix per tech data, not sure if I did something wrong or got a bad batch of 4030. Thanks again.
@@CreatexColors So this isn't the right product for my stock Eclipse HP CS with a .35 needle. What do you recommend for that brush? I need a good satin clear coat.
Thanks so much for the great and informative videos! Quick question after seeing the demo of these being used as adhesion promoters. If using this system on hard plastic like the controller faceplate you did in an earlier video, could you apply an autoborne sealer over that? Or would that not work well?
Our Lowrider Graphics video has UVLS Clear used as a flake carrier, If fairly simple: add flake to 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear, thin with 4011 Reducer, and apply with a 1.4mm tip size / flake gun. May need to keep agitating the cup (shake gun a bit( while spraying to keep flake from settling. Can apply over a “wet bed” of 4050, or other color. Thank you.
Very informative video, thanks for sharing! Just one question: would it be ok to thin it with 4012 reducer instead of 4011? I'm asking this because I'm having an hard time with retrieving the latter, and because a user is reporting issues with 4012 (which I own). Thanks in advance!
Chris great video... What would be he effect if I used Createx matte over a Createx base color and then clear coated with a solvent based gloss clear... Would the muted color still be visible, sort of a gloss matte effect... thanks M.
Hello. The finish would be gloss. The gloss level of the final top-coat of clear will control the gloss levels, much as matte paint appears glossy after a gloss clear is applied over it. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thanks for your reply... Chris how would a two color base coat (tow tone) be applied to a hard substrate and then cleared with matte for one color and gloss for the other; ensuring that the whole panel is covered/sealed by clear... Based on your response I would think gloss clear the entire panel and then apply matte clear over only the color you want to appear matte... Maybe a short video could be made on this... thanks... M
Hello there, I'm painting my katana with the candy deep purple with silver sealer base, I was wondering can I use this UVLS and mix auto glitter as a top coat? Thanks Great Videos By the way
4050 UVLS will work as a carrier for the auto glitter (metal flake) mixed with it. In regard to the final top-coat, a 2k gloss clear is best for candy2o as this will prevent the dyes from bleeding, however, UVLS Clear can be sued, it just won't have as good a mar resistance. A 2k urethane clear may be the best top-coat for your candy2o katana paintjob. Thank you.
UVLS Clears are a non-catalyzed clear that cure through air drying. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech guide, creatextech.com/pdf/tds/UVLS-Clears-TDS.pdf. Thank you.
Iwata LPH-80. For information about the 3-M PPS cup, E-Z mix cups and more, please see our booth tour video, ruclips.net/video/NekPfIhw9nU/видео.html. Thank you.
I'm working with the UVLS Clear for the first time (I'm new to this). I have the PPS 2.0 cup with 200 micron filter, and found that the clear is too thick to pass through the filter if not reduce, so I cut the filter out. Wondering if you have the same issue with you PPS system? Also using an LPH80 with 1.2 tip.
Please refer to the UVLS tech data sheet: thinning with 4011 Reducer is recommended at 5% - 10% per volume, although doing so is optional. creatextech.com/pdf/tds/UVLS-Clears-TDS.pdf. For a LPH-80 with a 1.2mm tip, mixing 4011 at 10% (10% -15%) will work well. Allow the UVLS + 4011 mix 10+ minutes acclimation before spraying. Its OK to keep the 200 micron filter in; clears generally won't pass through it without reduction. Thank you.
Wondering if this can be applied to a painted urethane rubber surface ( i have the gloss UVLS)...would it also act as a sealant for the paintjob in itself?
Yes, 4050 works as an adhesion promoter over a painted urethane surface. 4050 basically works direct to most any substrate except silicone. For some substrates, such as polished steel and glass, air drying for a full 48-hours may be required for adhesion. We've another adhesion promoter, 7040, made for rubber, which has a bit more flex compared to 4050. 7040 is essentially 4050 mixed 3:1 5092 Latex Adhesion Promoter, which gives 4050 more compressive strength, and a bit more tack. 5092 can be mixed in any ratio with 4050. Thank you.
When using the 4050 either mixed in with candy2o or applied say as a midcoat to lock in some artwork between layers, do you recommend scuffing it at all before applying more paint over it or will the paint bite into itself? I remember with PPG DBC500 they recommended giving it a light scuff before applying more artwork over it. Thanks!
We do not recommend scuffing / cleaning touching candy2o before applying a 2k clear or 4040 Bleed Checker over it. If using UVLS Clear as an inter-coat, yes, it can be scuffed flat before applying paint. This is for aesthetics, not adhesion. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech data sheet, thank you. creatextech.com/
Hey Chris great video...I've got a question for you...I'm just starting to custom airbrush fishing lures...my paint line is createx .I have the opaque set, iridescent set,and pearlized set..and a few wicked colors...im looking for a top coat...like 4050 line you got...but fish are not glossy...any ideas????
The best, most durable clear for fishing lures is a catalyzed (2k) epoxy clear. 4051 UVLS Satin and 4052 Matte Clears work, but they’re not as durable as a 2k epoxy clear. Thank you.
Hello there, I just wanted to tell yall I have been having excellent results with the 4050 with my airbrush. Mixing with candy2 0 is working better than the 4030 balancing clear. Gotta slow down a bit and watch my overlap passes and Vela, looks great. Sometimes a little Novus # 2 and polish to a high gloss. Thanks again. Keep up the great work and stay safe.
Say for example someone painted a solvent based paint on a helmet and you painted graphics on with your airbrush paints can you clear coat your graphics and the solvent based paint with this product or will it negatively effect the solvent paint?
Yes, Createx paints may be used as graphic paint over a solvent-based paint and then top-coated with a catalyzed (2k), solvent-based urethane clear. For more, please refer to our Hard-Surface Application Guide available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
Yes, UVLS Clears work excellent for fishing lure painting, both as a top-coat clear and adhesive primer. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech guide, creatextech.com/pdf/tds/UVLS-Clears-TDS.pdf. Thank you.
Correct, 4015 (and 4016) Cross-Linkers were only for the predecessor to UVLS, the SSR Clears, Createx's 1st acrylic - aliphatic ployurethane clear. UVLS don't require 4015 and cure to a much more durable coating compared to SSR. Thank you.
UVLS Clears replaced SSR clears as they’re an improved version with all the same attributes. 4050 UVLS Gloss is the only clear recommended for use as an adhesion promoter, especially for an unscuffed surface (same for older SAR Clears, only gloss). After 4050, 4052 Matte can be applied for a matte finish. What makes the clear matte takes away from adhesion, making the gloss the best clear for use as an adhesive ground coat. Thank you.
Two questions. 1 would it be ok to use pearl powders such as Pearl Ex when spraying through an airbrush? 2 Will this clear bury details such as emblems and panel lines on 1/25 model cars?
With a 0.5mm tip-size or larger (check size of pearl), a dry flake such as Pearl Ex can be mixed with 4050 UVLS Gloss clear and applied with an airbrush. UVLS Clear have some build, but the answer to your question is a matter of technique; UVLS Clears are a clear, not fill primer, and do not fill-in / bury flake as well as a 2k, high solids, solvent-based urethane clear. Thank you.
Yes, any Createx paint can be mixed with 4050 . Unless candy2o, the mix ratio is paint 4:1 4050. For more, please refer to the tech sheets available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
I received some UVLS 4050 in the mail and I didn’t get it in time and it froze overnight I could not find any information on your website about freezing so I’m asking is it OK or is it ruined the bottle froze solid
4050 is a urethane-resin product, which unlike an acrylic-resin used to make most Createx paints, will not thaw back into solution after freezing. Thank you.
Please refer to the UVLS Clears tech data sheet at www.creatextech.com. With an airbrush, 0.5mm or larger only and reduce ~ 20% with 4011 Reducer, or more. Thank you.
5604 Gloss Top Coat is an acrylic-resin clear best used for fabric and as a light protective coating over colors, not a true clear coat as UVLS Clears, which are an architectural-grade, acrylic-urethane resin clear which offer much more protection compared to 5604 and are suitable for exterior applications. Thank you.
Yes, 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear can be used as a primer direct to drywall and any other substrate except silicone. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech sheet available at www.uvlsclears.com. Thank you.
Yes, UVLS Clears can be used as a ground coat applied to the canvas, over which oil paints are applied. Allow the UVLS Clear to thoroughly dry before applying the oil paints. Thank you.
After 4050 has air cured for 48hours its best to then scuff with 800-grit dry before top-coating with a 2k clear. If applying the 2k clear sooner, scuffing isn't required. Thank you.
4011 Reducer is the thinner for UVLS Clears. Do not use 4012 Reducer for UVLS Clears. While thinning isn't required as its a non-reactive paint, UVLS Clears spray best with ~ 10% reduction with 4011 Reducer when applied with a 1.3mm / 1.4mm tip-szed spray-gun. Thank you.
I am going to use autoborne sealer black, dry pearl carried in uvls over the top and then I would like to 2k clear it. My question is after applying the pearl, can I 2k after it dries or do I need to put down a coat or 2 of UVLS to act as an intercoat on top of the pearl so I can then scuff before applying 2k without scuffing the pearl layer?
Yes, a catalyzed (2k) solvent-based, urethane clear can be used to top-coat any Createx paint, including UVLS Clear mixed with a dry-pearl flake. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors so I do not need to scuff before using 2k clear, is that what you are saying? Is there a window that 2k has to be applied without needing to scuff? I just want to make sure I am following the correct tech.
Createx paints are non-catalyzed paints; no time window. Scuffing can be done to create a level surface but is not required for adhesion. Always make a test panel anytime using a new material before using on an actual paint project. Thank you.
When applied as recommended, medium-wet coats 0.75 - 1.0 mil each, applied with a 50/50 overlap and with adequate re-coat time, 3 - 4 coats achieves pinhole free coverage for a durable, protective coating. Thank you.
Hi, I have a cuestion, I just start airbrushing, and I have a costumer he want a sign on a tarp, and I don't know if I can airbrushing on a tarp and keep the paint, he wants roll the tarp every day and put it back next day, if you can help me or somebody help me with that I apreciate it, thanks!
Mix 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear 25% to Createx Airbrush Colors or Wicked Colors, then thin with 4011 Reducer, createxcolors.com/scenix-mural-theme-paint/uvls-clears/4050.html. for more information, please email us at techsupport@createxcolors.com. Thank you.
4011 Reducer works much better and is what we spec, although distilled or deionized water can be used up to 10% - 15% v/v. Do not thin with tap water. Thank you.
Sorry, no. UVLS Clears are not recommended for use as a fishing lure top-coat clear. UVLS Clears are not for water-submerged paintjobs. We recommend a 2k urethane or epoxy clear for fishing lures. Thank you.
I have another question regarding UVLS clears. What kind of temperatures can they endure? I was planning on using some to clear a tumbler after it had some graphics airbrushed on, and I was wondering if the UVLS clear can handle the dishwasher?
UVLS Clears are same for use in a dishwasher, allow a full 72+ hours curing at 70 deg. constant (or 6+ days) before running in a dishwasher. UVLS are good up through 350 deg.F. Thank you.
Quick question: If I add 10% 4011 reducer to UVLS clear and mix it in a PPS cup. What is the shelf life of that mixture in the cup (assuming I use a sealing plug once I'm finished spraying)?
Shelf-life is indeterminate; best practice is to only reduce what intended to spray that day. When reduced and kept in a PPS cup, keep the cup plugged and kept upside down so as to keep the filter wet. With this method, the reduced UVLS should be good to spray 24 - 48 hours after reducing. Thank you.
UVLS Clears, including 4050 Gloss, are architectural - grade clears intended for application onto hard-surfaces, however, they do have some flex as the clear is made with an acrylic-polyurethane resin. Thank you.
We prefer a catalyzed urethane clear for candy20. UVLS Clears are architectural-grade clears suitable for use with most Createx paints other than candy20 for applications other than automotive and marine. Thank you.

Thank you.
how long should i let the 4050 dry before i put paint over it when using it as a primer?
Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thank you very much for your help and thank you very much for your rapid response
Hello there,
I just wanted to tell yall I have been having excellent results with the 4050 with my airbrush. Mixing with candy2 0 is working better than the 4030 balancing clear. Gotta slow down a bit and watch my overlap passes and Vela, looks great. Sometimes a little Novus # 2 and polish to a high gloss.
Thanks again. Keep up the great work and stay safe.
Excellent, thanks for sharing!
Thank you.
Great product, would this be any good as a fishing lure top coat?
Yes, UVLS Clears work excellent for fishing lure painting, both as a top-coat clear and adhesive primer. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech guide, creatextech.com/pdf/tds/UVLS-Clears-TDS.pdf. Thank you.
Cheers guys.
I seen In a older video that you have to add 4015 Cross-Linker. Along with 4011 reducer. Is the cross-linker no longer required?
Correct, 4015 (and 4016) Cross-Linkers were only for the predecessor to UVLS, the SSR Clears, Createx's 1st acrylic - aliphatic ployurethane clear. UVLS don't require 4015 and cure to a much more durable coating compared to SSR. Thank you.
Are the Scenix SSR clears still in production?
Would I be able to spray the uvls matte onto a polished surface without sanding first?
UVLS Clears replaced SSR clears as they’re an improved version with all the same attributes. 4050 UVLS Gloss is the only clear recommended for use as an adhesion promoter, especially for an unscuffed surface (same for older SAR Clears, only gloss). After 4050, 4052 Matte can be applied for a matte finish. What makes the clear matte takes away from adhesion, making the gloss the best clear for use as an adhesive ground coat. Thank you.
Thanks for this info!
You guys rock!
Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thank you.
Can I add any paint color with 4050 for my two coats over aluminum??
Yes, any Createx paint can be mixed with 4050 . Unless candy2o, the mix ratio is paint 4:1 4050. For more, please refer to the tech sheets available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
I received some UVLS 4050 in the mail and I didn’t get it in time and it froze overnight I could not find any information on your website about freezing so I’m asking is it OK or is it ruined the bottle froze solid
4050 is a urethane-resin product, which unlike an acrylic-resin used to make most Createx paints, will not thaw back into solution after freezing. Thank you.
I'm sure you covered it but what ratio of reducer did you use for the airbrush?
Please refer to the UVLS Clears tech data sheet at www.creatextech.com. With an airbrush, 0.5mm or larger only and reduce ~ 20% with 4011 Reducer, or more. Thank you.
LPH-80 1.2 tip E4 cap Is on the way. Recommended PSI is 14 across the board , does this sound correct to you ?
Sounds good. The psi may be low, perhaps try 16 - 18 psi inlet. Stay within the manufacturer's psi range but towards the upper limit. Thanks.
Will the UVLS clears be as effective as the 7030 Scenic SSR gloss clear?
More; UVLS Clears are an improved version of older SSR Clears. Thank you.
Just curious I have a bottle of "top gloss coat" 5604 I can't find any information on it. Any info or is it the same
5604 Gloss Top Coat is an acrylic-resin clear best used for fabric and as a light protective coating over colors, not a true clear coat as UVLS Clears, which are an architectural-grade, acrylic-urethane resin clear which offer much more protection compared to 5604 and are suitable for exterior applications. Thank you.
Hello, Can I use this as a primer on a drywall before airbrushing a mural?
Yes, 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear can be used as a primer direct to drywall and any other substrate except silicone. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech sheet available at www.uvlsclears.com. Thank you.
any thoughts on using this on a canvas print to oil paint over?
Yes, UVLS Clears can be used as a ground coat applied to the canvas, over which oil paints are applied. Allow the UVLS Clear to thoroughly dry before applying the oil paints. Thank you.
Thank you this is great help
Thanks for letting us know this video was helpful.
@@CreatexColors your welcome
What is the longest time I can leave 4050, when you want to clear after with 2k clear?
After 4050 has air cured for 48hours its best to then scuff with 800-grit dry before top-coating with a 2k clear. If applying the 2k clear sooner, scuffing isn't required. Thank you.
Am i able to use this without thinner? I can only find 4012 near me and it said it isnt recommended
Thank you.
Has it got "high build", to coat texture like metal flakes or paint coat steps?
UVLS Clears work excellent to bury metal-flake and graphic edges. Thank you.
I accidentally used 4012 and it turned to cottage cheese in the mix lol.
How many layers did you place for each of those finishes at the start ?
When applied as recommended, medium-wet coats 0.75 - 1.0 mil each, applied with a 50/50 overlap and with adequate re-coat time, 3 - 4 coats achieves pinhole free coverage for a durable, protective coating. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻✨
thanks for watching
Is it good to cover outdoor Murals in florida sun ? my audio is not sounding too loud
Top-coating with a durable clear is always best for optimum durability and longevity. Thank you.
hello, can i roll with paintbrush?
Yes, UVLS Clears can be appied with a brush or a roller.
Thank you.
Can I use water to thin out the 4050
4011 Reducer works much better and is what we spec, although distilled or deionized water can be used up to 10% - 15% v/v. Do not thin with tap water. Thank you.
You can coat fishing lures with the matte I hope!! Please say yes!! Lol
Sorry, no. UVLS Clears are not recommended for use as a fishing lure top-coat clear. UVLS Clears are not for water-submerged paintjobs. We recommend a 2k urethane or epoxy clear for fishing lures. Thank you.
Can I spray those with a micron or hpc plus
??
UVLS Clears are best applied with a spray-gun or large tip-sized airbrush 0.5mm or larger. Thank you.
Are they fuel resistant? Say final clear on a motorcycle tank
Yes. UVLS Clears are highly chemical resistant, including high octane fuels. All Createx paints are fuel resistant, even to 110+ octane. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Awesome I hate having to 2k clear everything
Thank you.

How flexible is the 4050?
UVLS Clears, including 4050 Gloss, are architectural - grade clears intended for application onto hard-surfaces, however, they do have some flex as the clear is made with an acrylic-polyurethane resin. Thank you.
Can it be applied with an electronic HVLP sprayer? I want to do a satin finish
Yes, test first the reduction amounts using 4011 Reducer and inlet psi. Thank you.
Can you use these clears over Candy2.0? Thanks
We prefer a catalyzed urethane clear for candy20. UVLS Clears are architectural-grade clears suitable for use with most Createx paints other than candy20 for applications other than automotive and marine. Thank you.
