    Ray, I'm just listening to this now. I am sitting here and I literally cannot stop bawling. This is exactly what I needed to hear. I've dealt with depression, anxiety, stress, and to be honest, I've tried a bunch of times to kill myself just because I feel like life isn't worth it. I had nothing to come home to (still don't), but your streams are the one ray of sunshine in my days (no pun intended). You bring a certain brightness to my day with your quirks, your laughter, your humor. Your streams make me smile when I feel like the world is collapsing around me. I am crying as I type this and I cannot express my appreciation for you and everything you and Tina do. You and her both bring immense happiness to my cold, dark days. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing this amazing source of happiness you give me and many others. Thank you so so much.

    5 years later…I purposely chose not to watch this video because for me, it felt like it needed to be watched at a time where I am at the lowest in my life. I’ll share it…I’m currently battling depression after all these events that have occurred these past few weeks. And now, after watching this video, it really help push me to become a better and happier human being. It is a work in progress, like Ray said. But I’m sure that it will be worth it in the end, not only for myself but for the people I love and care about around me.
    Thank You for those words of encouragement Ray. I will definitely take those words to the heart. Sorry for being 5 years late but there couldn’t have been a much better time for me to watch this video. Thank you for being one of the best streamers and one of the best individuals I’ve known in my life.

    I think what pissed me off when Ray left AH was that he was successful enough that he could throw away what was essentially a dream job so that he could have another dream job and that made me feel super inadequate. Fuck man, I want to be that successful. Can I have you old job at AH?

    • @toddwhetstone5997
      @toddwhetstone5997 8 лет назад +5

      I understand where you are coming from I was sad when Ray left and I thought I wasn't going to like AH anymore but I moved on and am happy watching AH and Ray's streams. But he said he felt bored at AH and I think he felt the same way you would feel after playing the same game for 3+ years. it gets boring but at least he is doing something that makes him happy now.

    • @bluntbangs
      @bluntbangs 8 лет назад +4

      +imaloony8 Yeah no matter how great a job is, eventually it becomes less and less amazing. Read a short passage called Two Ways of Seeing a River by Mark Twain. It really makes understanding why Ray left easier. It basically talks about how Twain once saw the Mississippi River as gorgeous with beautiful scenery, but as he learned more about it and experience being a riverboat pilot, it didn't feel the same. Every color and occurrence was just a number. Something that would effect how a riverboat would run that day. He said that maybe learning something from a technical standpoint can ruin the once great image of what you thought it was.

    • @imaloony8
      @imaloony8 8 лет назад +1

      SooDoneWithYou On the flip side of that, however, there's a saying that goes "The best jobs you love on your best days and tolerate on your worst." At the end of the day, it's still work. It's going to be boring sometimes, even if you love it. Of course Achievement Hunter does more than just sit around and play video games all day; those videos don't edit themselves, and even that isn't doing their jobs justice. If your main complaint with your job is "We only play video games for part of the day," I'm sorry, but that's a pretty shitty complaint.

    Watched this when it first came out and left after realising this was just a talk.
    But watching this now, 4 years more "mature," and amid my last year of schooling during ebola 2: electric coronaloo, with no conception of how to socialise outside of school, kinda helps me to step back and just, breathe. A good song to reflect with this is "These Days" by Powderfinger, which talks about having to deal with an unhappy life that you didn't plan on ending up in. Toodles
    (Also 7:20 is definitely the start of the downfall of Brownman)

    there isn't much guidance out there for many people of our generation and the youth of today, your encouraged to go to college and university. your encouraged to get a well paying job, a nice car etc etc. but your not encouraged to do what makes you happy.
    I was lucky, i made some very fortunate decisions in my life that one way or another got me into a good job that i enjoy and supports the wonderful things i do, i'm now at a cross roads however, in what i want to do next. i've spent nearly a year now deciding what my next step will be. i'm kind of happy now but i can sense change on the horizon soon. and the next decision i make will be probably the most influential one i ever make. its all part of growing up, but theres no book, no wiki page, and not many people i feel close enough to talk to.
    good luck out there peep's do yourself proud, that's what matters at the end of the day

    I don't normally catch your streams because i like to pause videos while I am on my xbox and youtube is easier for me. I just want to say i'm glad you highlight this and anyone who missed it can see this. This is a good reminder that just because people might play a character to be entertaining, it doesn't mean thats who they are. I associate it with actors or the sorts. Just cause they play a part doesn't define them as a person. Some people either can't or don't bother to look past what they see on screen. I just feel like a lot of people forget that because anybody who is famous for something is held at higher expectations even though they are just another person. For anyone that made it to the end of my comment, enjoy the rest of your day.

    Ray was always my favorite when I watched AH in 2012 through 2014. Then the last year he was silent in a lot of videos and I picked up on that real quick. Basically I knew when he left, I was going to stop watching anything RT. Achievement Hunter was the go to channel I would watch when I was a kid. Now, I can't even recognize the channel anymore. It's upsetting for me. I'm glad Ray left, if he wasn't happy. Then he needs to move on to find happiness again.

    It really is a strange feeling to see this side of you. I feel like you can get to know someone by watching them, and hearing the things they say, even if you're only watching and listening. I've watched and listened to you for years now, and as far as Roosterteeth goes, you were like the highlight of those videos for me. Not just your loud moments or hilarious jokes, but even when you were quiet and uninterested in what was going on, I feel like you're an incredibly genuine person. I *feel* like I know you after years of watching, I won't be pretentious and say anything else. But I did always think there was more to you, and I really thought your leaving Roosterteeth was connected to that. I'm just going to be straight up- when I heard you were leaving Roosterteeth, I had a moment where I thought "It will never be the same". But that feeling was somewhat irrelevant to me, and was only secondary to the next thought I had, which was "I hope his choice takes him to doing whatever makes him happy". Seeing you really open, and talking seriously, is like seeing a part of you I kind of knew was there, but never saw until now. I guess it's be like meeting someone you only ever talked on the phone with. But there's something about Roosterteeth, and you in particular that really makes me smile, and want to spend a lot of time just watching you do your thing. I feel like I see deep into things, and I don't really care about 99% of entertainers, because it's all really fake and pretentious, but Roosterteeth (and again, you in particular) stand out for me. That's why I typed up this letter-length message, which may be sappy or pretentious. I do hope you read it, though. I haven't ever really met you, but I feel like I know you to some extent. Maybe just a bit. But I won't ever say you should have kept doing something you didn't want to do, because a lot of people may have preferred it. It's *your* life, and I think it's really admirable that you know that, and enforce it. It also takes courage to say that you have to look out for yourself first, which I know is absolutely true, but people will call you "selfish", which has become a dirty word. At ANY rate, you aren't at Roosterteeth anymore, and it is what it is. So I'll be tuning into your streams and be glad you're still around, wherever it is that you are. Take care, man. I really hope you absolutely succeed in your pursuit of happiness. I'm a writer, so I'm also grinding toward my own happiness, and I'll stop at nothing to achieve a solid position doing that with my life.

    Thank You I really needed this. I had some things happen and I got depressed, but I started watching twitch and I decided that's what I wanted to do. I love streaming and making videos and even though I dont have many viewers or subs there's nothing I'd rather do. Thank you for the words of encouragment Ray

    The Unravel soundtrack was perfect for this kind of talk. I managed to come in halfway through this, and I've been wanting to see the full version of this. It's so awesome when we hear the motivational speeches we hear so often in movies, happen in real life, albeit a lot less perfectly delivered. Hit me right in the feels, Ray. Keep up the good work, my man, keep up the good work. I'll be supporting you from the background, no matter what you choose to do in life.

    Ray you are the best. I started my own magazine and have been working so hard at it, writing, shooting, and producing and sometimes I come into this hole of "what am I doing, where am I going, or how can I get there." Your words have put a pip in my step. Thank you ~

    I was working at an airport and I hated it. I resented every moment I worked there because I had recently finished university I thought there must be something better. I was having one especially bad day and was serving this man. He took one look at me and rolled his eyes deeply into the back of his head. He said with one breath 'you don't want to be here' i nodded 'don't waste time, it's the most special commodity you possibly have' he then said 'and don't let anyone else tell you how to use it'. When he left, I left. I didn't hand in my notice I just walked out and never looked back. I can't say at the moment I am successful, i'm retraining. But I certainly am happy.

    I;m going through a really shit time right now, I'm generally unhappy and not liking a lot of things in my life, and this really helped. It's not easy to pull yourself up and be happy sometimes, but hearing things like this makes me think that maybe it's possible. Keep doing what you do Ray, you help more people than you know.

    I’m glad you’re happy man you’re the reason why I loved watching Let’s Plays on achievement hunter was because of you. You completed the group. Anything you did with the guys was gold. I just went back and watched the old lets plays again and it’s still hilarious and funny just like the first time I watched them. You made the series, when you left it was literally hard to watch. I love the guys but you were the glue to be honest. Gavin, Michael, Geoff, jack, and Ryan were the OGs and I can’t watch anyone else. I respect your decision, a part of me wishes you could go back to achievement hunter and make it better but I rather you be happy man.

    Damn, Ray, I was able to hold it together throughout the entire thing until 11:16 when you brought up not being happy in college. I spent my entire first year at my university miserable and just going through the motions of everything because of a lot of crap in my personal life (big breakup, parents divorce, friendships ending, etc). I got worse and worse until I got hired at a job that I still love more than anything. A week ago today I had to tell my parents that I was dropping out of college to focus on my job because of how much college was taking out of me. I know this job won’t last forever, eventually I’ll probably get tired of it and move on to something else, or have to move away, or any other curveball life throws at me. It feels like a lifetime ago, but I’m a thousand times happier than I ever was. You’re a huge inspiration to me, and I’m thankful that I was able to stumble upon AH 6 or 7 years ago and in turn discover you. Much love
