What wonderfully crafted outdoor adventure film. I've always loved the outdoors. When I was 12ish, my grandfather capsized our little row boat. We weren't wearing life jackets. We never did. We were a good distance from shore, and I know I wasn't supposed to swim for it, but rather stay with the boat. I went for it and I made it, though I probably shouldn't have. Ever since then, I've been pretty fearful of smaller watercraft. In college I did a tandem canoe race in a river, and my paddle partner rolled the canoe. We were wearing vests. Haven't really trusted a canoe since then. Now, in my early 50's, nearly 30 years later, and after seeing all of these long canoe trips being posted to RUclips, and seeing skilled paddlers slogging through rough waters, and gliding on smooth glass, it's changed my perspective about small crafts. I went solo canoeing for the first time on Loon Lake in Minnesota this past June, and loved the experience. It's really given me the itch to get a boat. Never too late to get started, I guess. Onward and Upward. :)

I watched it last week in 20 minute chunks. I finally got enough time last night to do it justice on the big screen. It was just what I needed. When you were first in the new boat checking the stability I couldn't help thinking about a passage in one of my favorite books from my younger days. In "The Complete Wilderness Paddler" there is a section about choosing a canoe. It discusses hull shape and so on. Just watched your video after Padding Magazine recommendation from Kevin Callan ...what a terrific video. I want to watch more or your videos & hope I can try solo since I’m 53 & always wanted to! Thank you.
This is just a beautiful video. I have always wanted to camp the interior of Algonquin by canoe and I'm finally going to do it. Booked my permit in June and I'm off for 4 days in September on Rock Lake. I won't be portaging, because my canoe weighs 5 tonnes, (heavy fiberglass), but will stay at a campsite for the duration to do some fishing, photographing wildlife and the stars and also just chill and relax. I'm 54 and these past few years I have explored a lot in my backyard. Thanks Jason for the video, you have great editing skills and have showed us what this park is all about. Stay safe.
Thats awesome! Rock and Pen have some great fishing. Also consider the Booths Rock Trail... relatively easy hike and it will give you some great views... fantastic place to chill out. Enjoy!
amazing video Jason, wonderful to watch and come along with you on the trip. The impression of glassy Big Trout reflecting the clouds was just mesmerizing...!
That's a nice looking loop. We entered at Kiosk a few years ago for a nice 5 night stay. Hopefully things will open up and we can do this one you did. Algonquin is a really neat park. Happy belated, btw!
Just found your channel love it. 45 myself and just got back into canoeing and backpacking in 2018 after 18 years of not doing it. IT is so nice to be back. Love this because a Solo trip is still on my bucket list. Love the video and the editing.
Great video to help beat those February blues..! Appreciate you taking us on your journey and the effort to film it.. Hit 50 myself last year and picked up a sweet ride from Swift too.. Spring is calling.. So keep on Paddling on..!!
Hey Jason, found your video last night and watched it through. My hat goes off to you, stunning work and fun as well. I first stepped into a 25 pd solo boat 30 years ago and never tripped in a tandem again. I'm a small guy and it just works for me on my 3 to 4 week trips. Last Oct my son and I were out 3 weeks in our solos and on one of the toughest trips I have ever done. The only other person we saw on the trip was 70 yrs young on his annual solo. Cool guy and it gives me hope that I have another 10 yrs at least. Hey, some folks love the double paddle but this old dog loves a beavertail paddle. Have fun deciding for yourself. Thanks so much for a great escape. I subscribed.
I just hope that one day I'll be doing 3 to 4 week trips! Thats great that you're still out tripping with your son... I never really had the opportunity to do any kind of tripping with my parents. Thanks for the kind words and hope to see you out there in 10 yrs.
Hey Jason! You know, I've watched this numerous times now and have just had no idea what to even say to you about it. I believe this is the gold standard of quality in regards to filming, photography, and editing, all in one video. There have been 3 channels through the years that have truly influenced the trips I choose to do, as well as how I film and edit. Your channel is one of them, and I can't thank you enough for that. I can't wait to see your French River video that is in progress now. Thanks for tremendous effort you put into your work man, cheers! 🍻

Thanks for the sub! Glad you are liking the films (and my portage / video flips!)
Amazing video and pictures!
Thanks Brandon.
Can't believe I somehow missed this video. Just stumbled upon it last night. This is now my favourite Tumblehome production. Loved all the time lapse segments. Your footage continues to amaze me.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So wonderfully done.
Thanks Mike!
Very good show thanks
Loved it....thanks for posting
Thanks for watching!
That was fantastic. Thank you
no problem... thanks for checking it out!
Beautiful filming. We took Otterslide creek to Big Trout in mid September. Thanks for documenting this.
We may have crossed paths!
We were there the week after. We fought some weather going across and were very happy to reach that campsite on the point.
I was just watching your video with my son. He does trips like yours as well. Great videos.
By the way my son is Mike. Paddletale Adventures. Says you were the culprit in getting him more into canoe tripping videos.
right on! I just checked out his last Algonquin solo trip.
Happy 50th! nice rig! Amazing escapade
Thank you! ... and stop reminding me :-)
awesome man that's what its all about
An absolute joy to watch! Did the same trip in 2007 with my brother. We had big winds on Big Trout and were windbound for a day on White Trout, so I really enjoyed the contrast you had. Thanks for bringing back great memories. Sweet boat!
Thanks Fran! That was a treat rolling into Big Trout like that.
Dude you deserve to be one of the guys with a million subs. Your editing and photography skills are way better than a lot of the other guys.
Thankyou! It's really still just a passion/hobby but its good to see folks are really taking to this one. 5500 views in less than a week has to be some sort of record for me! Feel free to share with any other canoe heads out there.
STUNNING photography, I savor the nature and starry sky, thanks
You are very welcome
Amazing!! My best friend I did, something like this about 38-39 years ago... we are now planning to introduce our kids... Canoe Lake start up to Burnt Island. Love this!!

66 this year and I'm coming into Burnt from the south then around. Thanks for the preview, this was one of the best canoe vids I've seen
Thanks Kevin, glad you enjoyed it! Keep on rockin.
Agree with you there Kevin!
Spectacular photography! Stumbled across this while researching whether to get the Prospector or Keewaydin...glad I did.
Sweet! Have you made up your mind? I kind of wish I had both :-)
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome Leaning towards the Keewaydin, but I think I have to take a road trip to a dealer that can let me do a paddle-off...
@@whafrog good idea... if you are used to wider boats , the Key can seem a bit tippy at first. Fear not though... stable boat.
Awesome videography and photograph! Thanks for sharing!
Just watched your video after Padding Magazine recommendation from Kevin Callan ...what a terrific video. I want to watch more or your videos & hope I can try solo since I’m 53 & always wanted to! Thank you.
Thanks Sue! (and Kevin :-). Soloing is a blast.
Beautiful videography and stills. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Patricia!
Absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure how I found your channel but I'm glad I did.
Thanks Chris!
Enjoy!
Just finished watching all your videos, you are by far the best you tuber.Thank you for sharing these videos with us and please keep them coming.
Thank you!
amazing video Jason, wonderful to watch and come along with you on the trip.
Awesome. It's a nice loop for sure. Big Trout is a large, pretty and dynamic lake.
Just found your channel love it. 45 myself and just got back into canoeing and backpacking in 2018 after 18 years of not doing it. IT is so nice to be back. Love this because a Solo trip is still on my bucket list. Love the video and the editing.
Thats awesome Chris! Go for the solo!
Great video to help beat those February blues..! Appreciate you taking us on your journey and the effort to film it.. Hit 50 myself last year and picked up a sweet ride from Swift too.. Spring is calling.. So keep on Paddling on..!!
Thanks man. Thats a sweet looking pack boat...nice colour.
Happy 50th! Always remember that I was your first sub. :-)
Phenominal video man...
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great trip, canoe, music, and photography. Couldn't get any better. Thanks, Jason.
Thanks Tom.
Thanks a bunch! I haven't sat down to watch your film yet but I'm looking forward it.
10k views already! Woot!
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome hey no worries Jason! Yah it's blowing me away, never ever thought that would happen!
78 now and still out in my canoe every chance I get. My canoe is 48 lbs . Cheers thanks
Awesome video dude well put together and some amazing photos
Thanks bud! Nice pipes on the Magna! I had a V45 Mag many moons ago :-)
Superb... thoroughly enjoyable viewing on this wet and nasty day (and living on a ski hill, that is most assuredly not what you want).
Thank you for taking us along on your trip, matey.
Stay well,
Steve.
No problem!
Wow, what an awesome adventure with lovely footage and pictures, you friendly pleasant frog whisperer!! :) Thanks for this beautiful trip, man!! See Ya, Rich
Thanks man!
Wow one of the coolest videos I've ever seen on RUclips! 👍👍😎
Thanks for sharing this with us!!
Thanks Tyler... glad you liked that much!
Check out some of my older stuff at your leisure. It all has a similar vibe.
This was an amazing journey. Thanks for bringing me along.
Always been on the kayak side, but these canoes are really making me want to have one!
It's best to have one of every boat. :-)
I thoroughly enjoy your videos!
You are a fantastic story teller, and I've got to say, for me you completly capture the essence of the park!
Great video, big fan of your videos 👍
Thank you very much Keith. I really strive to put the feel right into these edits. It's all very subjective but I'm glad it resonates with others. Please share with other like minded folks!
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome its absolutley subjective, it's a total individual experience...that's what's so awesome about it, it's all yours.
I find your video effects, music and commentary really capture the beauty and humbling essence I experience when spending time with just your thoughts in that grand place. Thanks again.
