@@BackcountryPaddler It only dropped down to 30 at night, It wasn't cold enough. I have found when I am hanging out with other people, we just end up hanging out around a campfire. Even when it's real cold. It's a pain in the ass to use when we are traveling from site to site. I brought it because we thought we were going to be paddling in a snow storm on Friday. I figured if we needed to dry out, the stove would be the ticket. I was also testing out some quilts that I know are quite under rated for the conditions I was in. If I got too cold I'd set up the stove. Ended up not needing it at all. I used an old spare cookie sheet. Saved myself from the wrath of the wife.LOL

Good pick! I did Little Tupper last summer which was nice. I found a big 5-7 day loop you can do through the whole Whitney Wilderness Area. May have to do that soon. Let me know how it was there. 👍
I like doing it that way! It helps to keep me on top of it since I'm a side sleeper and I flip over a lot. Otherwise, I usually end up in the ground through the night. 👍
I'm just itching for a canoe trip right now. We've been having a rough spring. Each time I think it's over and we get a day of warm weather, it quickly goes away and we face temps below 50 and snow hits the mountains again for another week.
i like that twig stove a lot, but i've never used one. do you need to split the logs? there's plenty of times where those won't split well. do you pack in some fatwood or is the splitting not really necessary, just easier fire management?
It definitely wouldn't hurt. They can be a bit difficult to get lit, especially if the wood is damp. It might not be "bushcraft" but I'd suggest some sort of fire starter as well.

@@KathyHardiman Haha, I had NO idea other people struggled with this or would relate. I don't feel so bad about it anymore!! 😄 thanks for watching Kathy from Olean! I'll have plenty more local stuff!

@@BackcountryPaddler Last year Ness and Turtle tied a good rope system to use - we had some loops and knots to grab and help our climb. You'd need something to loop the rope around, though. I was waiting to see how you made it back down, lol... How did you do it - that can be even harder!
I think a bear stumbling through, too, could mess with a canoe. They have such a strong sense of smell.
So peaceful, thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks for watching! 😁
Good one man! Looks like a lot of fun.
l am feeling relaxed just watching your trip, especially when we camp, fish or hunt by ourselves,l know l just feel more free and relaxed for obvious reasons. This creek you are paddling on looks almost like our Minnesota river in Minnesota. One question l have,if you were at another camp sight without a lean too how would mitigate heavy rain in your hot tent sleeping on the ground? Those hot tents really look cool.Just curious. Here in MN we have a bunch of rivers, many are fairly close to our big city, have watched a few more local paddling patrons canoe and camp. Many of which flow thru developed ares but you wouldn' know it actually in your canoe on the water.Your beautiful video of New York and camping/paddling might force me off the couch earlier than l might have otherwise, happy camper.
Hey I'm just glad I could give ya a little push to get out soon! As for hot tenting in the rain, I've never done it and that's a really good question! I have to assume using a cot would be ideal..
Very cool man. Good for you! 🙏
I just stumbled across your channel. Brilliant video mate! You wouldn't happen to have a gear list, would you?
Hi thanks! Not a total gear list, no. Anything you wanted more info on in particular?
Awesome video. Never tried a hot tent before.
Would love to check this is this year fall or even Winter.
Thanks! I never thought I'd own one but now that I do I want to use it all the time. Ok, maybe not in Summer. 😄
@@BackcountryPaddler it's definitely a cool set-up to have.
Also, it's so cool to find a YT channel run by local like minded individuals :) you just gained a subscriber.
@@thislifesadventures. cool, didn't know you were local. I'll check your channel out for sure. 🤘
@@BackcountryPaddler I'm in Buffalo, NY
Good Saturday is any Saturday that you’re camping and paddling. If your New York friends aren’t going to participate, you might consider extending the invitation to your southern brethren. I love how you’re so casual about 30° weather. When it gets 30° in South Alabama we petition the governor for emergency relief aid. Great trip, thanks for filming it. ~Jason
P.S. I took a poll of all your subscribers in South Alabama and it was unanimous. They would like to see a Swift canoe review video.
Hahaha cracking me up Jason. 30° is nothing, but I can't handle your heat!! I'll surely get to working on a Swift review!
P.S. I assume this was a very very large poll.
That was a Burl on that tree. Those are like gold to wood turners
So, I know it's a burl but why are they good for wood turners? Thanks for watching!
Nice one man! Be backyard camping for me for a bit I guess - just gotta go DO IT!! lol
It's something..! I really feel for you guys. 😔
Watching from Denver Colorado
I'd love to visit Colorado one day. Thanks for watching!
Great video
Thanks!
@@BackcountryPaddler your welcome
Awesome stuff my friend! Cannot wait to get out and do some trips myself!
Thanks, Rath. I can't wait to get out again. I'm actually writing this from my canoe, but I'm out on a local creek and it's just not the same!
-Mark
@@BackcountryPaddler Definitely not the same haha, I've been out on a local river a few times so far, just to get the feel for things again. We got a lot more snow today up here, so will be a little while till I can get on an overnighter, I don't have a hot tent yet!
@@RathAdventures ugh! No more snow! Lol
I'm so envious! Great trip Mark; quiet, relaxing, dry - exactly what you'd want in your first trip of the year. And that breakfast? I want to go cook up something like that right now, it makes me so hungry! I don't know when I can get out now, but I hope my trip will be something like this!
Ron, I feel guilty even planning my next paddle out.. its not fair! I hope and pray things turn around quickly for you guys up there. In the meantime, definitely try the McGrito! 🙂 and hopefully there's enough content on RUclips to live vicariously through for a while. I do that all winter...
-Mark
@@BackcountryPaddler No worries! I will keep myself busy with running, cycling and, hopefully, nearby day trips. This too shall pass. Please provide more content soon! 😁👌
enjoyed video. Last 2 videos that I have seen, you could bunged corded canoes and fishing pole to inside canoe. What is the point of moving the picnic table back.
Hmm, can't remember why I didn't, but I normally do use gear ties to secure the fishing rod to the canoe. I moved the table back because that's its designated spot at the camp and I do my best to leave no trace. Thanks for watching Robert!
Awesome man!! Go Pro is awesome! Looks like we use the same cookie sheet under our stove lol. Just got back from my first multiday paddle myself! It's on ! Paddler season is here
I brought my hot tent and stove......never used the stove. LOL.
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Haha, why not!? The baking sheet does the trick. Wife wasn't thrilled I stole it... but, 🤷♂️. 😆
@@ItsGoodintheWoods glad you survived with the quilts and also survived the wrath of the wife. Good ideas all around. Lol
Very inspiring video
Thank you! My goal is to help inspire other people to get outside so thanks so much for the comment 😁
Mark - which GoPro mount did you say you're using? I couldn't quite catch it.
Smatree. It's on Amazon. They make GREAT mounts and tripods at great prices. 👍
Nice thumbnail and intro man! Looking forward to watching this tonight!!
Great video! Werner paddles are the best, but no beer?
Hahaha I really should have. Next time, I promise!
You had me at Sir Mixalot!
Little in the middle but she got much back!

Great video Mark! Keep em coming. Love the scenery.
Thanks Clay, I appreciate you watching it!
@@BackcountryPaddler Are you happy with your Swift pack boat? I've had my eye on them for a year now but they are not sold here in the deep south. They would be awesome here in the swamps and rivers of Alabama and Florida.
That sounds fun... I love my Swift! I'm also biased because it's the first and only one I've owned. Swift does deliver down there!!
Great video Mark. Awesome shots. I have also recently got the hero 9. Lost my hero 7 when the canoe tipped last summer and it was on a head mount. Lost my favourite peak too. I now use a floaty tied too the Gopro. ATB. Grays
Sorry you lost your 7, but hey the 9 is a nice upgrade! I did get a floaty too! I'll have to attach it 👍

Hey love your videos just subscribed. Going on my first trip soon. Also curious what jacket is that with the multiple colors? Thanks!
Hey! Have a great time on your first trip and feel free to hit me up for anything you need. I love helping out in those regards! The jacket is a down jacket made by Alpine. Nothing special think I paid $50 for it a few years ago.
Great video. Keep them coming.
Did you book that particular camp site? If so, how did you go about doing that.
Hey Andrew, here in New York backcountry camping is free and on a first come first basis. I love it..
Thanks for watching!
A whole lotta firsts here: First portage of the season/ first canoe hot tent camping/first time at the island campsite (which was pretty sweet). Any ticks? Thanks Mark!
Nope, no ticks. That's never a fun "first." Lol Have fun on your weekend adventures KK!
Good vid, enjoyed it.
Thanks!
Nice spot, Dude! I'm looking forward to getting out solo in mid-July. In the meantime, watching videos to live vicariously! : D Solitude.
I can't get out for awhile so I'm doing the same thing as you... watching RUclips when I can and living vicariously through those who are out.
You could say I'm in the same boat, pun intended 😆
Thanks Mark! We might be heading to the ADKs next weekend and this has got me psyched!
Nice!! Where abouts in ADK? Debating on where to head there soon..
@@BackcountryPaddler Whitney Wilderness Area north of Long Lake
Good pick! I did Little Tupper last summer which was nice. I found a big 5-7 day loop you can do through the whole Whitney Wilderness Area. May have to do that soon. Let me know how it was there. 👍
@@BackcountryPaddler We are planning that loop as well!
Sweet!! You'll have to fill me in!
noticed you put the sleeping pad inside your sleeping bag.. that's interesting how does it work out?
I like doing it that way! It helps to keep me on top of it since I'm a side sleeper and I flip over a lot. Otherwise, I usually end up in the ground through the night. 👍
Great video Bro! Looked like an awesome solo trip! Definitely need to tag along this summer. I will volunteer to make the pancakes next time! Haha!
😆 yes please, someone else make the damn pancakes. It's definitely accessible by kayak so we really should spend a day there, you'd love it.
I'm just itching for a canoe trip right now. We've been having a rough spring. Each time I think it's over and we get a day of warm weather, it quickly goes away and we face temps below 50 and snow hits the mountains again for another week.
Same. Was snowing heavily this morning!
i like that twig stove a lot, but i've never used one. do you need to split the logs? there's plenty of times where those won't split well. do you pack in some fatwood or is the splitting not really necessary, just easier fire management?
It definitely wouldn't hurt. They can be a bit difficult to get lit, especially if the wood is damp. It might not be "bushcraft" but I'd suggest some sort of fire starter as well.
Man I want a hot tent so bad! Great video!
Way more affordable than I ever thought!
Got your video on my Saturday morning watchlist! 👊
