Because I know people will ask: the wolf mom and pup stuffed animal comes from a company called demdaco
pin this. hell partner with them and sell some for the channel
Ooo Ooooo 🎶 Beau can see into the future 😆
They're not wolves, they're huskies. 😂
I’m sorry beau but that made me feel sick 😢
Edit: omg I’m not doing great atm and I thought you meant the company was selling real stuffed mom and pup, honestly I wouldn’t put it past a Republican
Ooo, I have a Demdaco mama wolf that I got from a conservation center gift shop! Her belly fur is incredibly soft. 10/10 would recommend for anyone who wants a wolf buddy. You have good taste, Beau!
What's bizarre about this is that conservation groups had to sue the US Fish and Wildlife Service to make them do their jobs and conserve *wildlife*. Whoever is running it shouldn't have had to be legally forced to do what should be seen as doing their job. It certainly makes me question their leadership.
Especially considering there is currently a Dem administration.
@@applesauce1680Dems are always terrified that they might be accused of being “liberal.”
It's Sec Deb Haaland! She was supposed to be this champion for wildlife. Smh
and we're still waiting for them to give the go ahead to send the 1000 monkeys taken from overseas for labs - Born Free org and Peta have arranged for these monkeys to go to sanctuaries. Fish & Wildlife are dragging their feet here too.
Because they want to make everything political. It has nothing to do with politics. Other than “Stop the program.” Which sounds bad. As usual most se that and run with it. Simple linear thinking. They dont reproduce is the problem. It was only successful to begin with, because they were artificially inseminating and releasing constantly. There are no mating pairs. Wild or in captivity.
Imagine Conservatives being good at... you know... Conservation... LMAO... Imagine
Glad this is happening for the wolves.
I was just thinking that. I owe you a beer
Conservative means to looked backwards with this version of the republican party the're aiming for the Paleolithic.
As a kid I always assumed that was part of their deal. The beliefe aged like milk in a heat wave.
Because the only thing they want to conserve is the power to rule
Anymore you can really only call them one thing. Fascist
None of this will get any better until we can stop conservatives from putting a goddamn price tag on everything
Oddly, just read an article in "Wired" magazine about doing just that. A whale's body, for examples, holds a lot of carbon. A whale could be "sold" for a carbon offset, which at going rates would be $2 million dollars! The owner(s) would have good reason to keep the whale healthy and making more whales.
Sea grass, though, the man who came up with this idea says, sea grass is the premier carbon capture in the wild. A lot of island states could become very rich with this idea. And they'd have a strong incentive to protect and spread the sea grass -- benefiting thousands of other ocean creatures.
It's barely begun at this point, but the possibilities ...
🎯 👍
You mean harvesting our natural resources for profit without any brakes? I vote YES.
Eh, I am fine with a price tag.
1 trillion dollars divided by the remaining population. If there are a million it costs a million bucks to kill one (or cause one to die). If there are 1000 left it will cost you a billion bucks, etc.
It's good to get a second chance to save a species from extinction but it sucks that greedy people almost destroyed them.
Have you ever heard about a wild dog 🐕 called the Carolina Dog?
@@jamesschrader6855
No, but I can tell from your general lack of argument that you don't know enough about biology to have an opinion either.
Decisions about conservation are best left to biologists, not random Joes with a shotgun and ten scrawny sheep.
If the Carolina dog is threatened it should be protected.
If it isn't that dog isn't relevant in this thread.
@madshorn5826 I was asking a question about a Breed of dog 🐕 if you want to look up pictures on the Carolina Dog, I have seen pictures of them.
@madshorn5826 Beau did mention hybrids. Hybrids can definitely affect the survival of a species. May try responding with a little humility instead of just charging up on the high horse of assumption.
@@jamesschrader6855 Good point, as potential hybrids do affect the survival of indigenous species.
I am always on the wolves' side. Always.
Me too
@SandraNelson063 Hoooowl!
Just like the wolves we eradicated beavers once. We need these keystone species to ensure we have healthy wild environments.
Beavers also help refill aquifers and mediate flash flooding.
The only time they are trouble is when their dam building threatens roads by blocking culverts and under bridges.
When I was little beavers were very uncommon in northeast Ohio. Now they're quite abundant, and with them (and their ponds) many threatened fish species have regained ground - from brook trout to various types of darters.
@@manda60And the wetlands support bugs, the frogs and birds that eat the bugs, the ruminants (deer, moose) who eat the wetland plants, and the apex predators that need all the rest to be around to make the circle of life work at all.
beavers are coming back. they are apparently necessary to to the complicated environments ecosystems. it is almost always the farmers that want the wolves extinct. NC has a lot of farmers. NC is severely gerrymandered so only people who run statewide can change the state back to fair and free elections. we know we know the dems did it too. now we all have computers that can fairly and equitably make districts so that the vote rigging DIXIECRAT/gop cannot take us backwards to the 19th century utopia. they are out of touch with reality like the last time when they caused the Great Depression and were too stupid to know how to fix it.
@@MonkeyJedi99 Right! Even the beaver pond to meadow to forest cycle is essential for our mixed Eastern forests. Every animal, from the most mundane pillbug or redworm to the biggest moose or bear, plays a role.
Wolves must be protected everywhere.
the deer are out of control where i live. gop posts signs. yup that solved the problem signs. the DIXIECRAT/gop sends thoughts and prayers to the victims of mass shootings. yup thoughts and prayers that really helps. the DIXIECRAT/gop is out of touch with reality and they want to stay that way. please america let them do that in retirement.
say people who are not impacted by wolves in their area. i had a wolf in my back yard last week and now I'm concerned about taking my dog out without a leash for fear of the wolf snatching it in front of me, which is a thing they do.
Why do conservatives seem to hate life so much? One for life/nature and honorable intent!
Probably because all they actually care about "conserving" is the wealth of the predator class that funds them.
Nixon was the last GOP who believed in conservation.
They're afraid of Life. It explains their politics, their religiosity, their economic policies, the hate they have for "others" and just about everything in their misguided and ruinous lives. And they want to destroy people who are happy and enjoying Life.
Today’s conservatives are really fascist
Because "liberals" care about them. Whatever "liberals" care about MAGA types want to fight because they hate us. And/or because they think they are Daniel Boone.
I really love that this is something you care about.
👋4th🎉
I've had the privilege of seeing red wolves at Point Defiance zoo in Tacoma, WA. Where they've had a captive breeding program for quite a while. Thank you Beau for bringing more awareness about the red wolves plight.
what do we think the chance is that if its succesful again, "conservatives" will choose conserving profit over conserving nature again?
The “conservatives” are right wing reactionaries and they are all about the zero-sum fame
More or less certain. They're regressive authoritarians. They exist to kill.
Heh. When I was a kid I used to think that was what conservative meant. Boy was that an erroneous take...
My MAGA neighbor thinks my hummingbird feeder promotes tribalism and feuding amongst local hummingbird groups.
He thinks I’m a communist because of my hummingbird feeder.
every time. Neutron Jack Welch rebuilt GE. he did that very successfully. He became a management guru. Neutron Jack said that the corporations did not have to care about their workers they had to care about their shareholders. in 1979 unions hit their highest membership then DIXIECRAT/gop propaganda made unions seem obsolete. we need them to control the greedy rapacious corporations. they put forever chemicals in E Palestine Ohio's drinking water forever. E Palestine voted 70% for the DIXIECRAT/gop candidates in 2022 2020 2018 2016. you get what you pay for folks enjoy your ruined ecosystem and infra structure.
Just remember Conservatives are conserving THEIR PROFITS, THEIR POWER, THEIR HOLD ON WHO GETS WHAT IN THE WORLD.
Forget environment, resources, sustainability, other species. Those are part of the deal.
As a North Carolinian who lives within a couple of hours from the Asheboro Zoo, the story of our Red Wolves and their road to recovery is one of my favorite things to hear about.
Right, i remember how rare they were
@on1yadam it's the kind of thing you might think you'll never see for yourself
Wolves are extraordinary creatures. This is good news. Plus, they gave us dogs, and that's the best thing EVER.
(Ahem) Those of us who prefer cats beg to differ....
Those other wolves gave us dogs. This species of wolf did not.
@@serendipityshopnyc hahahaha.
@@serendipityshopnyc of course you do. Cats always make you beg...

"Population estimate as of June 2023: Known/collared (wild): 16. Total estimate (wild): 32-34. Red Wolf SAFE (captive): 278."
Wow.
Sobering numbers.
For me this really is one of the best arguments for voting for democrats.
It's that dems usually pass less openly violent domestic legislation & that they're consistently better environmentally.
good luck in NC. the only way to stop them is in the districts they have gerrymandered beyond description. they did vote for a Dem Governor there which was very surprising. then their rigged state legislature voted for a bill no one liked except the special interest it was intended to coddle. the governor vetoes that bill. the gerrymandered rigged elected DIXIECRAT/gop rode over his veto for bill 70% of their population was against.
Also a century of reliable republican recessions and worse economic numbers, to go with the disparity of arrests/convictions of administration officials for the parties, clearly shows the Dems are a valid party while the GOP is nuttier than squirrel sh!t.
Yeah, there are no sane arguments against voting dem over rep.
@@whysocurious7366 The only argument regards something 99.9% of Americans don't give a shit about: foreign policy.
Modern Republicans have proven a profound incompetence on the world stage which translates to more American failures & fewer democracies being couped & populations being decimated by the imperial machine.
Profound evil is a bipartisan agreement when it comes to foreign policy. It's just that the Democrats operate the orphan crushing machine more skilfully & efficiently than Republicans do.
@@whysocurious7366dems are currently pushing for support of the war in ukraine harder than reps. granted that's probably only because the kayfabe reality of the situation means reps have to reflexively "oppose" what dems want even if the reps would be doing it themselves if the dems weren't but the fact of the matter remains its the dems giving notably larger support to continuing war there. if you're against shipping billions of dollars over to nazis in ukraine you probably don't want to vote dem.
Thank you for putting the info out there to identify the shooter/killer! I hope they are found and given a small fine and stern look (bitter sarcasm). Seriously, i hope they are identified, shamed and schooled one way or the other.
I assumed it was Donny Jr🤷
Perhaps sentence them to five years community service, raising wolves and other endangered wildlife and maintaining their habitat.
They should be jailed!
The shooter should be judged by a counsel of wolves. Who will get to decide his fate. In a manner of thier choosing.
You all remember the movie "dances with wolves"? Well the species of wolf in that movie (2 socks) was a Buffalo Wolf,... it's extinct now
Thank you Beau for continuing to cover these environmental stories. 👍
That is great. If they stay the course, it can be done. For a ridiculously red state, we've been successful in Wyoming bringing back species on the brink. Pronghorn, Black footed ferrets, grizzly bear, mountain lion, timber wolves. Still working on sage grouse. If we can do it with our state government, anybody can. Go NC.
gotta bring back the native grasses before the Grouse will come back sadly thats tough to do as the foreign grasses are better at competing
Of course, Wyoming has a few things going for it that North Carolina doesn't: small population, low population density, and a very, very large national park.
The surprise is this is a deep red state, very the leaders have been drinking the kool-aid since before Trump. But Game and Fish has been able to function anyway.
The only things I know about Wyoming are from CJ Box novels, which I find fascinating.
Remember just because they're good boys and girls doesn't mean it's a smart idea to pet them. I know we all feel the urge to give belly rubs and scrachies behind the ears, but we must resist it.
I want to soooo badly!
Must. Resist.
OK with stuffed toy animals. Only.
Don't go to Grandma's house in a red cape!
As a member, it pains me to say, we are a disgusting species.
Poison water poison air ok open racism and we r top off food chain
We don't have to be. Look at Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter.
Still can't believe we elected Ronald Reagan instead of giving Jimmy a 2nd term.
They're trying to reintroduce elk here in West Virginia.
Our elk population in Arkansas and Missouri has grown so much we now have limited hunting permits. It's great to hear their bugling in the fall and see the bulls round up their harems.
They don’t need to, they are already there. Just give the elk time, they’ll expand all over the state
I remember in the 90's when they reintroduced red wolves to the wild in NC. It was a big deal, and they got school kids excited, by having the Red Wolf Ramble--where artists painted red wolf statues, and they were placed all over town, so kids could have a kind of scavenger hunt for them. I can't believe they dropped the ball o this one.
I didn’t know about this at all. I was told in school in the early 80’s that there were some left in Louisiana but all the Texas ones probably extinct. So I figured they were extinct by now. I guess they were about to be.
As someone who lives in an area of Oregon where it's not uncommon to see bumper stickers that read, "Canadian wolves, smoke a pack a day," it's reassuring to hear that progress is being made for wolves on another front. It's a real struggle here to keep the wolves alive against the onslaught of ranchers who want them extirpated and have no regard whatsoever for the critical role wolves play in the ecosystem.
The ranchers and their lobbyists need to be dealt with.
disgusting people they just wanna kill something. they wanna hunt wolves they can have a bow and no tree stand lets see if they can do it.
@@Ashannon888 They deserve exactly the level of courtesy they recommend treating the wolves with. Single-minded extirpation.
In practical terms, when you see somebody with bumper-sticker slogans or other tells outing them as a poacher or supporter of poachers, get (quietly) nosy! Document everything, gather as much evidence as you can, figure out what evidence is legal to have captured and what activities are against the law, and once you have an ironclad package of legal evidence showing an illegal activity, submit it to authorities. Try to get the case as wrapped up with a bow as possible, with names and vehicle licence plate numbers and photos attached. Regulators don't like doing work that might not pay off.
The saboteurs need to be stamped out in detail, or no wildlife is safe. Luckily, one or two arrests should bust up a group wider than the ones actually being arrested, and if that happens enough maybe attitudes will change overall.
Yay, we finally got our wolf pup video! I'm so happy to hear that they're restarting this great program here in my home state. The coyote population definitely needs to be addressed too, we have an overabundance of them. It's spooky sounding to be sitting on the back porch at night and hear them yipping at each other, and we aren't far outside the city limits. Thanks Beau! ✌️
problem is shooting coyote just makes a rebound effect they might be thin that year but the next there will be triple perhaps sterilizing them would be better but otherwise not sure what else can be done other than introduce wolves back into the area which is definitely not gonna fly with the farmers who aren't gonna wanna upgrade their fences wolves quite often don't even try to go after livestock unless its really easy for them to do. look at germany wolves are plenty there but the farmers have good fences specifically made to keep them out and they work.
@@jacksmith-vs4ct I'm sorry to say that wolves still are quite rare in Germany, they are just slowly coming back, and already some people call for shooting the even rarer 'problematic' ones, e g. if fences don't work with 100% reliability. So I don't think we do so much better than the US in this regard.
This makes me. So so happy. I love wolves. I love that we are going to make another effort to save the red wolf. Esp cuz it's our fault their population declined so badly. I am gonna cry the happiest cry I have in years. Conservation is close to my heart, especially of wolves.
I mostly watch politics, science/technology, and backpacking through-hike videos on RUclips. The last several years, the number of Appalachian Trail through-hikers catching Lyme disease has absolutely exploded because the deer and deer tick populations have exploded. For disease control in the east, we really need wolf populations to keep the deer populations in check.
Wolves and venomous snakes! Our reptile population does so much to control the rodent population, which are the reservoirs for lyme disease. I know snakes like copperheads are dangerous but people have to learn to let them live if they don't want to suffer from how common these diseases are becoming.
Don't even get me started on how many nonvenomous snakes are being killed for looking like copperheads or even just for being a snake.
It has a lot to do with the weather as well. Long sustained cold periods help control insect and arachnid populations.
Red wolves are the first animal I wrote a report on as a kid. I am a huge fan of the red wolf, and I fully support this project.
The biggest win for all life upon this earth is to outlast humans.
Well howdy there late night and early morning internet people!
Thank you Beau!
Lets take a version of the win and keep trying to be better stewards of conservation!🙏😎
As a graduate from Arkansas State University, I have a fondness for the Red Wolves. Their range historically was quite large.
A much better mascot than the previous choice. A topic that fails to meet national interest, but maybe worthy of investigation for curiosity sake alone.
It is possible to be a hunter /animal lover. It is also possible to be a logger / conservationist, petroleum worker / environmentalist. I am all of the above. It is important to respect the wildlife, environment, air and water purity while we harvest, and utilize the resources around us. Stewardship is using resources responsibly, not just locking it away and hoping that everything will find equilibrium.
Any number of backyard chickens are not valuable enough to justify extermination of predators, wolves coexist quite well.
For Pete's sake we see bears daily in my workplace and have no problems from them. Coyotes, foxes, moose... Share the space.
I grew up on a Missouri farm, reading Organic Gardening and Mother Earth News. We respected and were humane to the animals raised or hunted, followed all game regulations, and neighbors thought we treated our livestock like pets. This was too the good, as they were happy to sell us the cow who was "Too friendly" (she licked my brother's beard👅) or the barncats who wanted to cuddle. Yippee! So I understand just where you're coming from. Those who have dealt up close and personal with the ethics of fossil fuels and raising or hunting meat know that pragmatism and high ideals are not entirely incompatible. Pleased to meet you. 🖖✌
Our state dog in Louisiana is the Catahoula. It is believed that the Indians bred red wolves with other wild and tame dogs to make them. They are very loyal dogs and versatile. They hunt, herd, guard, and great companions. We once had the red wolves here, but they’ve been gone a long time. Or they hide well, cause we aren’t supposed to have panthers but I’ve seen them here.
You are correct especially about the chickens. A few years ago the hubby and I added chickens as we hadn’t had any in a few years. Lost all to various predators, mostly fox and raccoons. This never happened in the past. We realized that the difference was we no longer had a dog. We do now and he marks everything and the critters stay away.
Nope! "It is possible to be a hunter/animal lover. It is also possible to be a logger/conservationist, petroleum worker/environmentalist...". The level of cognitive dissonance in this comment is stunning. To quote an old Sesame Street jingle, "One of these things don't belong with the others..." Sheesh. It always amazes me the way humans can reconcile their destructive behaviors so that they can continue them despite knowing better.
@@ktmac7610 - Yes panthers, Pumas, mountain lions are making a comeback in Arkansas and Missouri. With the rebound of deer and now elk it was inevitable the big cats would return, even without a reintroduction program.
Nature builds over epochs, Man destroys in a blink.
I hate what they're doing to the wolves in Idaho.
I really hope people are sequencing genetic information and freezing genetic specimens of our natural living treasures, for I fear materialist greed will kill much, and we might as well give the future a chance to do what we are failing to do if we can.
It is a great sadness to me that Britain lost all it's larger wild animals, I'm not a fantasist, I am fully aware that there is a price to having them (although the loss of the odd imbecile who annnoys bears or bison foe giggles or photo ops is definitely not part of it), but our country definitely lost a part of it's connection when bears and wolves were long ago hunted out,
Never rely on landowners to "know what is best",
Wild European buffalo have been reintroduced to Britain! Google it.
Other species are on the "to do" list.
You've still got wild ponies. They're pretty big.
I am an ecologist, I was an active researcher for nearly 30 years, and now and teach ecology and environmental science at a local college. I am also a small farmer and landowner, and am one of the few in my State who actively manages their land with ecological priorities as the primary land-management goal. My land hosts a huge population of plants and animals not as common in the surrounding area.
"For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack."
Yes Beau, I checked your shelves in the background... :)
Howdy Internet People and the Beau Clan.
The fact that there is such a small number of wild red wolves at the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is chilling. Luckily, there has been captive breeding programs at accredited zoos and sanctuaries since the 1980's, ensuring that genetic diversity hasn't been lost. Let's hope that the future of this beautiful animal rests in capable hands. Education is the key. Thank you for your post

Prosecute those who kill these wolves, fine them and imprison them for decades.
They can be mistaken for coyotes and shot by accident. It’s still a tragedy, but it’s not always malicious.

I really thought the Washington Football Team should have named themselves the Washington Red Wolves. There were several concept logos and such which looked really good. They could have even used some Native American imagery harkening to their past, while showing respect to the Native People.
Respect? From the NFL? You must be from a different timeline...
If they were to be a wolf, it would be a gray wolf, which is our only native. There are some colonies of reds along the coast, but I believe they came from zoos and parks.

This is awesome news! And I hope they catch that louse who shot that red wolf.
I just seen one of these dead side of the road in western NC. I was thinking that was a rare moment I was on side of the highway.
When Red Wolves were killed off in the South and East, Coyotes moved in. If I was a rancher I rather have Red Wolves. They are more shy of humans. They are very easy to tell the difference, Red Wolves are slender with long legs, they are nothing like Timber Wolves and much taller than coyotes.
Great point, and coyotes have proven to be virtually impossible to get rid of - the more they're hunted they just break up into smaller and smaller packs and breed faster. Coyotes are the predators those ranchers deserve.
