And if all they know is the debate they saw, they're going to go off and do something stupid like vote for RFK or Trump. You and me will vote for whoever is on the blue ticket, but those who don't know what's going on around them might be persuaded to vote against their best interests if the Dem option is a grandpa who can barely speak. • @bjdefilippo447
    @bjdefilippo447 22 дня назад +5

    Trae- this is the first time I've ever been disappointed with you. I agree that the administration has not handled the post-debate fallout well. Karine JP has done an AWFUL job dealing with the press. The president realized in the aftermath of the debate that he can no longer keep the same schedule he once did. He didn't evade the truth. But the media spun that into the talking point that he would only work until 4, which is just BS. He admitted that he might have to stop meetings after 8pm, and do a better job making sure he gets enough sleep. That's not papaw brain, that's someone who recognizes a limitation and makes plans so that it doesn't interfere with his job. A job that he's been doing quite well.
    The polls have been quite clear. They do not suggest that the voters are looking for Biden to be replaced. In fact, they indicate that no one has a better chance to take down Trump than Biden! The debate changed nothing for most people. The only people with their hair on fire about it were pundits and beltway Dems who tend to panic and overreact. Sadly, much of legacy media is financially beholden to the GOP, who have either bought or donated generously to them (ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, WashPo, NYT...) so it's no surprise that they happily fanned the flames.
    I realize that the US, more than most countries, has an issue with ageism. We value the appearance of youth more than actual wellness or fitness. We assume that appearing older means that your faculties are declining. That's simply not the case. As multiple specialists have made clear, the only thing that Biden is suffering from is the normal slowing and name-finding issues that most of us do as we grow older. He is not suffering from any neurocognitive decline. Unlike Trump, who relies on a pill pusher, Biden receives checkups from a reputable physician, who also confirms that the is not only cognitively healthy, but in good cardiovascular health. (Poor heart health is what typically causes problems in the brain, due to inadequate blood flow.)
    That being said, let's consider two options, one in which we stay the course, and one in which we change horses just months before the election. If we stay the course, we go into the election with a tried and true leader who won the primaries with about 90% of the vote, has a great relationship with foreign leaders, and has the support of the voters, even after that debate. If things do change, he has a strong VP. If they wait until 2 years and a day into the term, she could finish it out, if necessary, and still run for President TWICE.
    On the other hand, if we change, one thing happens for sure- we tick off the millions of voters who chose him over the alternatives. They knew he was old. They knew he was a gaffe machine. They chose him anyway. In addition, we now have two choices, Kamala or "other". "Other" is not a viable option. Noone else could access the huge war chest Biden/Harris has amassed, nor could they raise sufficient funds to do the outreach, advertising, and other work necessary to garner enough support to beat Trump. We lose. In an election we can't afford to lose. So how about Kamala Harris? She would have access to the war chest. But unfortunately, she comes with a lot of baggage. Granted, not all of it is hers, much of it is the American people's. I know it's not fair, and heaven knows I hoped we'd be over this BS by now, but we all saw what happened to female candidates in the last few election cycles. American is still sexist, and not just the many on the right who think women are second-class citizens who don't deserve rights. Many Dems, including women, remarked about the candidates vocal tone, attitude, etc. in the same terms women in the workplace have heard for years- loud, bossy, arrogant, annoying, over-emotional, too soft, etc. Hillary would not win any personality contests, but she was experienced, intelligent, and certainly not soft. We got Trump, though, not because of her personality, but in part because too many people could not overcome their sexism. More recent candidates got the same treatment. And VP Harris has more to overcome. It can't have escaped people's attention that American is still fighting racism. In addition, her history as a prosecutor and the damage her policies did to many minorities will not be easily forgotten. In a white man, this might be overcome in order to oppose Trump. But sadly, some who can accept her ON the ticket will not accept her as the head of it, at least not yet.
    I hope I'm wrong. But the data indicates that by adding fuel to the fire, instead of shoring up our defense of our President, with our unconscious tendencies toward ageism, sexism, and racism, we are burning down our own democracy.
